CubSlov: Thunderous

Samuel jumped awake when he heard the sound of the thunder. He groaned, moving to climb out of bed. He would need to unplug the router. He paused when Carlos grabbed him, pulling him closer.

"Don't go," Carlos mumbled, still half asleep.

"I need to unplug the router," Samuel said. "We don't want to buy a new one."

"It'll be fine. It's far away."

As though the universe decided to prove him wrong, there was a bright flash outside the window, followed immediately by a loud crack. Carlos jumped, his eyes wide open. Samuel laughed at Carlos's alarm.

"Um, maybe you should unplug the router," Carlos said.

"I'll be right back," Samuel said. "I'll also check on the TV. That sounded pretty close."

"What is going on with the weather these days?"

Samuel just shrugged. This wasn't the first time this month that the weather got close, and a few months ago, they had to get a new router because the weather destroyed theirs.

This is just a response to the stormy weather we've been having recently. Especially at night. And we've lost our router years ago because of the lightning. It's now officially been called la niƱa, and there are places that have been completely flooded, especially near the Vaal River. There was also a storm in my town this week that knocked out the power in the lower part of the town. My dad spoke to the secretary at the school there, and he said she literally got an electric shock while working on the computer. It was also strong enough to affect the intercom system. And it wasn't the school itself that was struck.

And yes, the lightning did knock out our power a while back. There was a flash, a crack, and lights went off. The thunder is also annoying when you're trying to fall asleep.

Seriously, do an image search of 'South African floods 2022'. I'm lucky that my town doesn't really have big bodies of water, and that my house is on a hill. Still, it's bad. And this is rain. A lot of rain.
