Kacchan stayed over that night and he couldn't have been more grateful that he did.
Despite falling asleep easily back in the infirmary, he now somehow found the concept of sleeping to be impossible.
Everything felt louder, textures felt rougher, and even if he did manage to fall into even the lightest of rests, he would only wake up a few minutes later terrified by being greeted by darkness.
He couldn't even check the time.
If he couldn't even do that then how was he supposed to be a hero?
Dad was one because he was amazing and trained super hard to get to the level he was at.
Even if he trained for the rest of his life he knew there would be no way he'd ever be a match for him.
Would UA even still want him?
What if-
He was pulled from his thoughts as something soft was placed in his arms.
The plushies Eri had won for him.
Another soon joined it.
"Which d'you want, Daredevil or Present Headache?"
Not particularly wanting to choose, he instead elected to just cuddle both against him.
"If you don't want to sleep then you don't have to."
He turned towards Kacchan.
"W-what?"
"I mean back then when the league had us I barely slept at all; not because I didn't want to, but because I just couldn't. I know Recovery Girl said the best thing for you was lots of rest, but that's your choice not hers or anyone else's. And yeah, it might sound really stupid to rebel against something like that but honestly, at this point who gives a fuck? You do you Toshi."
He smiled.
"You can sleep, I'll just-."
What? What are you going to do, read? Watch TV?
"Why don't we sit on the balcony again and I'll point out some more constellations; I can describe them to you?"
Hitoshi smiled.
"I would like that."
"Okay then."
He felt a light vibration through the floor as Kacchan got to feet before a few seconds later something soft fell into his lap. He traced his fingers lightly over it and soon felt something familiar.
Kacchan's All Might hoodie.
"You need this, not me."
"Nah, it's warmer than your Hawks one."
"But-."
Before he had the chance to argue further the hoodie was shoved over his head.
"Hey!" He burst out laughing, pulling the hoodie fully on.
The blanket from the bed moved beside him, Kacchan obviously choosing it to wrap around himself.
Hitoshi reached out a hand and found his cousin's elbow.
"You ready?"
"Yeah."
It didn't take long for them to reach the balcony and Kacchan supplied his usual encouragement across the short distance.
"Don't smack your head on the door when you sit down."
Hitoshi grumbled to himself at his cousin's fussing as he lowered himself down.
He only bumped his head once but he played it off well and thankfully Kacchan didn't seem to notice.
The wooden planks bounced very slightly as the spot beside him was taken.
"It's nearly the holidays, are you excited?"
"I've heard people talking about them at school, but I don't really know what they are; Touya never mentioned them either I don't think."
"That's okay, you'll find out soon enough. We always have big family celebrations with loads of food, and presents, Shouza, Uncle Zashi, and Mom get really drunk and then Uncle Zashi forces everyone to do karaoke, it's a good time."
Hitoshi chuckled.
"Is karaoke the singing thing everyone does in the dorm on the TV?"
"Yeah!"
"Oh god..."
"Exactly! It's AMAZING!" Kacchan explained extremely enthusiastically. "I think you'll really enjoy it, Eri too."
"It's probably her first celebration as well, you'll have to explain all this to her too sometime, I'm sure she'd love to hear about it."
"Oh she's gonna' get spoilt rotten by everyone, you too."
"What?"
"You know, with presents?"
"Why?"
"You give presents to people you care about and you and Eri are people we care about, duh."
"Everyone gives presents?"
"Yep."
Shit, couldn't he have mentioned that sooner? What the hell was he going to buy now?
"Oi, Purple Hair, stop freaking out in there."
He smirked.
"Sorry."
"You better be." His cousin teased. "Now just relax and pay attention to Mr. Bakugou."
Hitoshi laughed.
"Oh so you're my science teacher now?"
"Damn right."
Kacchan's hand came to gently take his before moving it upwards towards the sky.
"So that one right there, that's Cassiopeia."
With his finger pointed he was guided between each star of the constellation tracing it's pattern.
"It's pretty standard, nothing that special really but it's still pretty cool. Oh and over here, that's Ursa Major, there's loads of stars in this one."
He couldn't help but smile.
"You know so much about these."
"Ehhh, I don't know that much."
Hitoshi scowled.
"Don't put yourself down like that, having a knowledge like that is really cool. What made you start learning?"
Kacchan huddled in a little closer against his side as he relaxed back against the wall.
"Mom bought me a book about them when I was little and I found it really interesting. For some reason I really wanted to learn it to impress Shouza, don't ask me why."
"You wanted to show off to your big brother, it happens; I always tried to act tough in front of Touya."
"Really?"
Hitoshi smirked.
"Yeah, I must have looked so stupid."
He shivered.
"Put your hood up, that's what it's there for." His cousin flipped it up for him. "There."
"I am here!" He quoted whilst striking the pose he'd seen so many times from the cartoon series.
"Oh god..." Kacchan groaned.
"You can't say anything, this is your hoodie."
"Do you want to hear the end of the answer to your question?" His cousin teased.
He quietened quickly.
"Yes."
"Okay. So back then, Shouza was a lot like you, he didn't used to sleep very well. I used to sneak out of bed on the nights when he stayed at our house without Mom and Dad noticing and go down to the living room. He told me off for it at first and then realised that there was literally no point 'cause I'd just do it again anyway so eventually he just let me stay. We would talk about heroes, and UA, and the silly things Uncle Zashi had been doing, and then one night I mentioned the book I'd been reading."
'I used to love looking up at the stars, they were always so beautiful... I miss them.'
"So, like I just did with you, I told him about them, pointing out different constellations and the planets out the window." Kacchan paused. "Having a whole balcony like this is so much easier; we were a whole lot higher up in the tower block though, it felt like we were practically up amongst them back then. I used to think that if I wanted to I could reach out and grab one to give to Shouza, but obviously I couldn't. Doesn't mean I didn't try though."
Hitoshi smiled.
"That's really sweet."
"I was really stupid back then."
"You're stupid now so not much has changed."
"Watch it, Purple Hair..." Kacchan warned before bursting out laughing regardless a few seconds later.
He yawned.
"Tired?"
He gave a nod.
"Wanna' try getting some sleep?"
"Could... could we come back out here if I can't?"
"Sure." A sturdy hand came to take his elbow before he was carefully helped to his feet and back inside to the bed.
"Thanks."
"Don't start this thanking business again, we've been over this a million times."
"Sorry."
"And that too."
"Sorry."
"Ughhhh..."
Hitoshi smirked as he lay down, re-finding the Shouta and Hizashi plushies and hugging them close.
"Night."
"Night, Tosh."
And just like that he was soundly asleep a few minutes later.
