Just because Starfleet thinks they're saving money (or some other bullshit excuse), that doesn't mean they can't spare some fabric to make sure women are respected just as much as male officers. Or at the very least, officers who choose to wear the short sleeved uniform deserve to wear their rank proudly. So Kirk decides to take matters into his own hands.

Summary of Part 2: A few weeks after returning from their trip to Iowa, Jim is acting like nothing ever happened and Leonard, though patient, is confused. Eventually, Jim admits something that happened in his past that explains why he's been holding them back.

It's all innocent until he comes to Kirk's quarters one night, tell his story, and leaves Kirk speechless. He does what he can for a sad Vulcan, and holds him in his arms all night.
