Daryl never thought he would meet someone more damaged than himself. All his life he believed he was meant to be alone, that he would never be able to love anyone without hurting them. And then he meets Chloe, a girl running from her abusive boyfriend, and suddenly Daryl finds himself wanting to protect her, heal her, love her. AU, Daryl/OC. Daryl's night of drinking and smack-talking with one of Merle's military buddies culminates decades later at a highway snarl just outside of Atlanta as the world descends into chaos. First half is pre-series.
