Plot: Prince of Games AU: When Harry Potter received an invitation to attend a school of magic, he hopes the lessons at his new school can help him master the ancient magic inside of him. Hogwarts, get ready for the return of the King.

Author's Note: So, I know that, when I finished the original Prince of Games story, I said I was done with the whole thing, but, recently, I started to imagine a sort of alternate timeline of events, where our hero went to Hogwarts BEFORE he went to Duel Academy. So, here we have that universe's story and, in a way, this is going to become a sort of 'project idea' that, hopefully, will end up as successful, if not complete, as Prince of Games…well, I suppose there's only one way to find out.

How did I put it in that story?

Let the Games Begin!

Oh, and, as always, if you don't like it, don't read it.

Added Note: For anyone who has read Harry Potter: Prince of Games and might wonder about such things, let me say that the events of this story starts in Chapters 3 – The Other Me – and Chapter 4 – Darkness Dawns – before it will go through a timeskip taking us up to the start of Harry's adventures back in the Magical World.

Meanwhile, everything that came before it is also canon for this story's universe too.

Oh, and I'm also changing the pairing, which makes it another point as an AU adventure of that one, and I hope you enjoy how I bring the pairing into it, even with all the fun and madness in-between.

Anyway, enjoy.

Chapter 1: A Very Different Harry

The Story So Far…

Meet Harry James Potter.

A boy who, even before he could walk, was already a special child because of how he'd survived an attempted assassination by the Dark Lord Voldemort at just 15 months old. However, while many of his future peers in the magical world had little to no idea of how he'd accomplished it, there was something very special about this young soul that had contributed to his defeat of the Dark Lord.

Something special that, ironically, was, in it of itself, a source of great Dark power, as well as a magical force beyond any that the wizards might be able to comprehend.

As for Harry himself, it would be some time before he himself learned of this great power inside of him, though not before his life took a turn for the better when, shortly after being orphaned by Voldemort's murder of his parents, Harry found he was not alone in the world.

When his supposedly-only-living family, Petunia and Vernon Dursley, attempted to play a trick on a distant relative of Harry's birth Father, James Potter, who had long-since left the UK to be raised by family of his own, the trick and joke were on them. Despite their best effort, the Dursleys were left helpless to do anything as they bore the fury of not only James' brother, the King of Games, Yugi Muto, but also Yugi's frenemy, CEO of the biggest financial, duelling business in the world, Seto Kaiba, who helped Yugi make absolutely certain that the Dursleys knew what would happen if they went anywhere near the World Champion's nephew and charge.

As a result of this rescue, Harry's life took a turn for the better, filled with the fun, wonder and mysteries of Duel Monsters.

But, all the while, Harry had another mystery to solve: his own power, as well as a dark mystery concerning strange, otherworldly events that often took place whenever the boy grew too emotional.

When he was eight, Harry learned from his new, extended family – which, at that moment in time, also included his honorary godfather, Seto Kaiba, as well as his little brother, Mokuba, Yugi's friends, as well as Maximilian Pegasus himself – that the source of these wondrous events was all because of an ancient spirit that lived deep inside of him, much like how the Great Pharaoh Atem's spirit had once resided inside of Yugi's body.

This spirit, known as the Supreme King of the Gentle Darkness, was an ancient power with abilities that seemed almost-limitless, if not as big a mystery as the powers of the Pharaoh and the Millennium Items. And now, according to what Harry learned from Yugi, this power had become a part of him, making him the newest vessel of the Supreme King.

It was a scary thought, especially for an eight-year-old boy, but Harry had felt conflicted by his Uncle-slash-adoptive Father's words.

And it was that conflict that led to a very interesting conflict for the boy whom, in time, became known as the Prince of Games…

PGHY

After the excitement of the day's events, and how much it had drained him, it was a little sad to notice how Harry couldn't sleep as peacefully as any other eight-year-old might have done, not that anyone could blame him, mind you.

Even so, as he lay in his bed, trying to fall into the embrace of Morpheus, the young duellist tossed and turned in his sleep, his eyelids flickering as dreams and visions tormented his thoughts. At the same time, when his eyes became visible through the flickers, anyone looking in on him might have been a little alarmed to see how their colouring seemed to shift between green and gold as he tried to sleep through the pain, fear, doubt and even the awed wonder and disbelief that had come to him as a result of everything that Yugi had told him about.

However, to his eight-year-old mind, it was more the fear and disbelief that filled him as he thought on everything he'd been told by his adoptive Father – whom he was mildly relieved and made content by the fact he could now call Yugi such a thing and he wouldn't mind.

There was an ancient spirit of a king that lived inside of him? And not just that, but a King that saw him as a vessel for him to control?

Why? Because the world needed saving?

By the Egyptian Gods, Harry was just a kid!

He had no idea how he was supposed to save anyone!

And he also didn't really understand how someone who had power over darkness could even be called a good guy, even though Harry knew that not all Dark Magic was, necessarily, an evil form of magic. After all, Yugi had co-existed with a spirit who used Shadow Magic himself and, as the Pharaoh had proved time and time again – with perhaps one exception that Yugi had told Harry he would describe in detail when the boy was a bit older – he was a good guy.

So, did that mean that this Supreme King could be a good guy too?

As the young duellist felt his mind slip further and further into a frenzy-filled state of dreams, he also felt his mind explode with a sense of energy and otherworldly power that made him draw his comforts from somewhere deep inside himself, as he tried to squash his fears down, only to replace them with the peace of good dreams and better things to think about.

However, Fate, it seemed, had other ideas…

'Harry…'

As soon as he heard his name being called, Harry snapped his eyes open before he looked around, a part of him confused to notice how his surroundings seemed to have changed.

He was no longer in his bedroom in his home, for one thing: more than anything else, this was the first thing he noticed.

Instead, he was standing at the foot of what looked like a long, winding stairway, which seemed to be situated inside of a strange, blue-coloured area that was unlike anywhere else he could remember being. Looking around the blue-coloured environment with curiosity and a note of childish fear at being alone in such a strange place, the young duellist was also aware of something eerily-familiar, not to mention old about the design of the whole place.

To him, it was almost like some sort of tower or castle or something like that. (1)

Not one he was familiar with, mind you.

But, then again, there was something familiar about it; he just wished he knew what it was.

"Harry…"

Hearing the voice again, Harry snapped back to attention as he looked up the staircase in front of him before, taking a deep breath, Harry poked his head towards the top of the stairs as he asked, "Who…who's there? Hello?"

"Come up, Harry…" replied the voice from before.

It was a soft, slightly-ghostly-sounding male voice that, for a brief moment, made Harry think he was somehow hearing a ghostly echo of his own voice, but, as he hesitated in answering the voice's suggestion, Harry heard it speak again. "Don't be afraid. I mean you no harm…you are safe here, Harry…you have my word…"

Even as Harry hesitated in taking the stranger at his word, there was a small part of his mind that realised how, if he was going to get any answers, he didn't really have a choice, did he?

Besides, he didn't know exactly how it was he'd gotten to this place: it felt way too real to be a dream and yet, the weirdest part of it was how Harry knew that the last thing he remembered was falling asleep.

As he slowly, carefully, made his way up the stairs, Harry was aware of what looked like a dark cloud of unknown energy, which suddenly began gathering around him as he climbed up towards the top of the stairs.

To his bewilderment, he noticed how the energy didn't feel hot or cold and yet, as he looked down at it, Harry was a little surprised to notice how comfortable he felt, even with this unusual force gathering around his feet. As the eerie, dark energy continued gathering around him, slowly rising up his body like a mist that seemed to settle over his small frame, Harry's eyes widened when, just as he reached the top of the stairs, he found that he was no longer wearing his pale-blue pyjamas.

Instead, apparently thanks to the dark cloud and whatever powers it held, he was now dressed in his favourite duelling outfit, including the long sleeveless black duster that made him look like his honorary godfather, Seto Kaiba.

Just as this look made him feel calm on the duel field, its sudden appearance also calmed Harry, even as he reached the top of the stairs, though he still felt that there was a part of him that hoped this was all just some crazy dream. And yet, at the same time, he didn't know how he knew, but, somehow, he just understood that it wasn't.

This was real!

The castle was real; his outfit was real; the dark energy was real and, most of all, the upper floor, complete with a wide-open balcony, which let one look out over a rocky valley was real.

Ditto the strange figure that seemed to be silhouetted against the sparse light beyond.

"Hello?" asked Harry, noticing how the figure had wild, dark-coloured hair that was an awful lot like his own and, except for the fact that they were taller and somewhat stronger-looking, the stranger also seemed to resemble Harry himself: they even wore the same duster as him.

"Hello Harry," replied the figure, turning to face Harry.

As soon as he did so, the eyes of the younger duellist widened when he saw a pair of fierce, golden-coloured eyes looking at him, though not before he fought the urge to jump out of his skin when he saw the pale features of the face holding those eyes illuminated in a flash of lightning, which also revealed similar jet-black clothing to the outfit worn by Harry, which covered the stranger from head to foot.

"Do you know who I am?" asked the stranger, earning a gulp from Harry before he nodded once.

He didn't know how, again, but, as he looked at this weird double of him, as well as remembering his earlier comparison to his Dad and the Pharaoh, Harry suddenly had a very good idea who this was.

"You're…you're the Supreme King, aren't you?" asked Harry shakily, earning a snigger from the figure before he nodded once.

"In most circles, I am also called Haou," replied the King, keeping his eyes on Harry as he actually smiled at his younger counterpart before he told him, "I've been waiting a very long time to meet you, Harry: a very long time indeed…and now, finally, we're here; you, me, this place…the two of us, face-to-face."

'This must be how Dad felt whenever he had those weird soul-room dreams about the Pharaoh,' thought Harry, swallowing hard as he tried not to show the fear he'd felt after hearing about the spirit before him.

At the same time, Haou sighed softly before, in a tone that was so casual, they might as well be old friends reuniting, the spirit of the Supreme King asked, "So, tell me, how do you like it?"

"How…how do…do I like…what?" asked Harry shakily, a part of him surprised, if not curious and a little wary to notice how the King's spirit wasn't in too much of a hurry to do anything, even as he answered Harry.

"My…sorry, I suppose I should say our powers," replied Haou, his voice edged by a note of seemingly-friendly amusement as he spoke with Harry, "All right, so you haven't really used it as most others would have done, but you've clearly felt it; otherwise, why would you ask the Pharaoh's former vessel about me?"

Taking a step backwards, Harry gulped hard, unable to keep the quaver out of his voice as he insisted, "I…I don't know what…what you mean, but I…I won't let you control me…I'm not some puppet for you to use, even if it is to…to save the world."

"Oh, trust me, Harry, I know you're not a puppet," agreed Haou, his amused expression now one of resignation as he smiled before he nodded once as he admitted, "Truth be told, I've actually been trying for some time now to work through you, but it's like there's some greater will keeping me out. Every time I manage to slip through the cracks between our two souls, there's something else that pushes me back; if I had to guess, then I would suggest that it comes from the magical blood in you."

Harry just blinked in surprise when he heard this.

Seeing the reaction, Haou seemed as curious, if not surprised as his newest incarnation as he asked, "What? You mean Yugi hasn't told you about that part of you yet? Well, I imagine he was more concerned with me being in control of you, but I digress; long-story-short, you're a wizard, Harry."

Again, Harry just blinked as Haou went on, "Your Mum…well, I guess she was our Mum, but, again, I digress. She was one, so was our Dad, James Potter. However, something happened to them when we were just an infant: I don't know what, but, because of this thing, they died leaving us…leaving you with Yugi…or at least, they almost wound up leaving you with those mortals, but it seems that fate had other plans."

"Dad loves me," argued Harry, his green eyes shining with determination, as well as surprise because of Haou's confession, even as he explained his point to his darker counterpart. "He told me about how him and Uncle Seto rescued me from the others…the Dursleys, I think he said they were called. But, he never did tell me why; it doesn't matter, though. Even if you told me the complete truth, I still won't let you control me."

"I know, and, just so we're clear, I will always tell you the truth, Harry," explained Haou, advancing on Harry until they were barely a few inches apart as he told the smaller boy, "I will never lie to you. I will never trick you, but, believe you and me, the day will come where you will say yes to me and let me use my power through you."

Harry just shook his head, shock and amazement replaced by steely determination and a glare worthy of his Dad as he hissed, "Never!"

For a moment, Haou seemed to admire Harry's resolve, judging by the smile he gave his lighter counterpart before, as though making a decision about what he was going to say next, the King sighed as he explained, "Well, you're resiliently strong in your certainty, Harry; even now, I can just barely manage to scrape through the cracks of your mind to give you more than what you see here. But…"

Here, he turned away and walked back towards the balcony.

As he did so, Harry's eyes widened when he saw Haou's body shift and contort until the black clothes were gone from his body; in its place was a fearsome-looking suit of black armour with devilish spikes on the shoulders and sharp-fingered gauntlets. A dark, spiked helmet seemed to cover Haou's head while a long blood-red cape suddenly billowed from behind the Supreme King's armour.

As the change was complete, Haou then turned back to Harry, revealing his still-golden eyes in the process.

"If you're so sure in your desire to control your own fate," continued Haou, his voice now edged by a note of dark malice as he asked, "Then why don't we settle this little stalemate of ours in the same way they would settle it in the waking world?"

Here, he held out his arm and, as Harry watched, a strange black star-shaped duel disk suddenly materialised onto Haou's right arm, the centre of the disk holding a yellow-coloured eye, which reminded Harry of Haou's own eyes, or possibly the eyes of some dangerous monster.

As he lowered the disk again, the Supreme King's power seemed to activate the star, causing the five points of the star-shaped design to swivel around until they came to a rest in the normal position for a duel disk, now having formed a single, blade-like base, the shape of which Harry knew very well.

"You mean a duel?" asked the young boy, his green eyes hardening with new, greater determination, which only grew stronger when he then saw his own Duel Disk appear on his arm, completing the image of his favoured attire just right.

"Precisely," replied Haou, smirking with a sense of anticipated victory as he explained, "But this won't be your run of the mill battle, Harry: the rules and stakes are simple. I win, you must surrender your mind and body to me, to do with as I wish! But, if you win, I will gladly infuse my soul with yours, but instead of controlling you, I will, instead, give you full control of all my powers. Because of this, you will truly become the Supreme King of the Gentle Darkness, Harry Potter, while, much like our Father-slash-Uncle, I will be nothing more than a watcher within your soul, bound to my own soul room, you might say, until you decide to speak with me or trust me enough to let me help you."

As Harry's eyes widened at how calm Haou sounded when he made the terms, the King actually smiled with curious interest as he asked, "So, what do you say? Do we have a deal, my little magical friend? Are you prepared to enter the Shadows, if only to ensure that all we have is yours to command and nobody else's?"

As though answering the question as only he knew how, Harry activated his duel disk, before his eyes shone when he saw a duel deck appear in the required slot as he looked up at his darker self.

"What sort of son would I be to Dad if I turn down a challenge? Even one that's a Shadow Game? You're on Haou: let the games begin!"

Harry: 4000/Haou: 4000

"DUEL!"

As both duellists drew their first cards, Harry actually felt intimidated by the feeling of Haou's strength, which radiated outwards from the King's spectral body as he faced down his opponent.

At the same time, the young duellist knew he had to be on his guard.

After all, given what his Dad had told him about the power of the Supreme King in the past, Harry willingly admitted, even if only to himself, he didn't know what he was supposed to expect from the ancient ruler of darkness. The thought that he was someone evil had scared him, but, right now, as he prepared to face this demon, Harry tried to ignore that little voice as he remembered what Yugi had told him.

He wasn't evil himself: this force inside him was just like the Pharaoh: another side to Harry, intent on coming out and doing whatever he could to protect his…his host? His vessel?

Whatever Harry was to him, the young duellist knew that he wasn't going to be that for much longer.

He might not know what to expect, but he was not going to just roll over and let Haou think his body was an open invitation.

"Why don't you take the first move, Harry?" suggested Haou, earning a frown from the young duellist as he eyed his first hand.

"All right, I will," replied Harry, drawing his first card before he looked for a reasonable start to the duel; he also tried to come up with a strategy that might put Haou on alert as to how serious Harry was about this.

After several minutes of proverbial soul-searching, Harry smiled to himself as he saw an ideal move.

Taking a breath to calm the intimidation he felt from the power of his other half, Harry prepared his hand for the move, while he explained, "And to start, I'll place two cards face down and summon out my Elemental Hero Stratos (1800/300) to the field in attack mode."

The blue-armoured hero appeared on the field in a blaze of glory, standing tall, proud and ready to defend his commander-in-chief; at the same time, two of Harry's Spell and Trap Card Zones showed occupation, even as the young boy went on, "Now, thanks to Stratos' special ability, I get to add one Elemental Hero from my Deck to my hand, so I'll do just that and now, since I can't attack, I'll just end my turn."

"Well, that is a good opening," replied Haou, drawing his own card before he smiled thinly as he looked to Harry, "However, you need to understand that, in this duel, I'm not some random kid at your local school whom you're taking on, Harry. I am a force that has existed for centuries and duelled with greater powers than you might understand. A fact I will now prove to you by activating the spell card Dark Fusion!"

Harry's eyes widened as a dark aura seemed to burst forth from the side of the Supreme King; at the same time, a spell card showing two of the elemental heroes rose onto the field, their two forms overshadowed by a dark figure in the background.

As he felt the darkness spread outwards, Harry gulped as he asked, "What is that? I…I don't think I've heard of a card like that before."

"Well, that's probably because I'm the only one capable of handling it's power," explained Haou, holding up two more cards from his hand as he went on, "And now, with Dark Fusion, I fuse Elemental Heroes Sparkman and Clayman together, in order to summon forth, the all-powerful Evil Hero Lightning Golem (2400/1500) in attack mode!"

'Evil Heroes?' asked Harry, a note of alarm echoing through his thoughts as he saw the two lighter spirits become enveloped by the shadow powers of Dark Fusion, its energy drawing them into a similar vortex to the power of Polymerisation, which resulted in the same outcome as a brand-new kind of monster appeared.

He was dark-coloured at first glance, save for purple-coloured highlights on his gauntlets and boots, as well as lightning-bolt-shaped additions on his shoulders and helmet: to look at him, Harry compared him to Elemental Hero Thunder Giant, which only made him even-more uneasy since he knew what that monster was capable of.

If Lightning Golem was anything like Thunder Giant, Harry was in trouble.

Luckily, he had a defence ready.

As the new hero descended onto the field, Harry hid his anticipation as well as he could muster as he swallowed hard before he asked, "So…what? Dark Fusion takes two good guys like the Elemental Heroes and turns them into these bad guy Evil Heroes?"

"Yes," replied Haou, his dark energy seemingly increasing in force thanks to the presence of the new monster, while the King's voice grew stronger as he exclaimed, "The Evil Heroes are the result of spirits infused with my power. Born to serve the Darkness in my vessels; when this duel ends and you become my permanent vessel, we will wield this dark power together!"

"Well I don't think so," argued Harry, indicating one of his face-downs as he explained, "Because I activate the Trap Card Torrential Tribute: now that you've summoned a monster onto the field, we both lose our monsters."

"Normally that would be the case," agreed Haou, smiling with a hint of amusement at how Harry was trying to show his strength, despite the air of fear he could sense in his doppelganger. "But you see, my future vessel, Dark Fusion has a secondary effect that negates the effect of any spell, trap or monster effects that target my Lightning Golem. So, thanks to the powers of Darkness, you lose your little trap!"

Harry's eyes widened as he watched his Trap Card being enveloped by darkness before it disintegrated, leaving his field with just one defence, as well as Stratos, much to his relief.

"Don't be so relieved, Harry," argued Haou, indicating his Fusion-Summoned creature as he added, "Because while I might have spared you the pain of watching your own card destroy your own monster, you've probably realised how similar my Golem looks to its lighter-self, Elemental Hero Thunder Giant, which is appropriate, since they also share the same special ability."

"Then…that means…"

"Yes," said Haou, pointing to Stratos as he exclaimed, "Lightning Golem can destroy one monster on the turn it's summoned and, unlike Thunder Giant, it doesn't matter if said monster has higher attack points than Lightning Golem: he'll still destroy it regardless…show him, Golem: Black Lightning Blitz!"

Harry could only watch in disbelief, as well as fear, as the Golem's hands lit up with black lightning before its dark energy incinerated his Stratos, leaving Harry's field empty.

A fact Haou was all-too keen to exploit as he went on, "And, of course, this was just his special ability. Now that your field's empty, my Lightning Golem can attack your life points directly: go, Dark Lightning Volley!"

As Lightning Golem built up his energy once again, Harry clenched his fists tightly as he closed his eyes, bracing himself for the attack that he knew was coming: thanks to his talks with his Dad, he knew that, since this was a Shadow Game, he'd actually be able to feel the burn from the onslaught as well as experience the dominating power of the Shadow Realm hitting his life points.

However, even when he braced himself, Harry couldn't help but cry out as the lightning hit him, sending his life points down by more than half.

And it was only the first turn too.

Harry: 1600/Haou: 4000

"And next," added Haou, his eyes shining as he told Harry, "I place a face down card of my own and end my turn."

As the smoke from the assault started to dissipate, Harry, barely able to remain on one knee as he tried to deal with the after-effects of the attack, heard Haou's voice address him again, a note of what sounded like pity in his voice as he told Harry, "You shouldn't be disappointed, Harry; you are just a mere child while I am an ancient force of the Gentle Darkness. Against this power, you have no chance of success."

It was like Haou's taunt suddenly empowered Harry, giving him the strength to slowly stagger to his feet.

Seeing the resilience in his latest incarnation, Haou actually smiled before he addressed Harry with a softer voice, "I'll tell you what: if you surrender now, I promise that I won't make you do anything too evil to those you care about, okay? And remember, I'll never lie to you, I'll never trick you, so you know I'm telling the truth, Harry. So, why don't you just surrender and I'll make it a life of fun rather than fear for us both, what do you say?"

"I…I say," coughed Harry, stumbling slightly, before he drew on his body's strength, using it to stand tall while his emerald-green eyes shone with renewed determination as he told Haou, "This…this duel is still on, Haou, and…and to prove it, I activate my other face-down card: Fallen Grace!"

(Fallen Grace: TRAP/NORMAL: Activate during the End Phase of a turn where you take Battle Damage; select one monster card in your graveyard. Increase your life points by the ATK or DEF of the selected card, then remove it from play.)

As Haou watched, a trap card showing a priestess kneeling before a funeral altar rose onto the field; as its power radiated across Harry's side of the field, the King couldn't help but feel impressed when he saw how the light of the card actually seemed to match Haou's darkness.

Harry, meanwhile, drew on his inner strength as he explained, "Now…thanks to this card, my body's not giving in to you just yet, Haou: because now, I can select one monster in my graveyard and increase my life points by that card's attack or defence. So, since he's the only one resting in peace right now, I think I'll select my Elemental Hero Stratos and, since it's my choice, I choose to increase my life points by his 1800 attack points."

To Haou's interest, a spiritual form of Stratos seemed to materialise behind Harry before, in a shower of white light, the hero's spectral form covered Harry's body in his fallen energy, increasing his life points, exactly as the young duellist had decreed.

Harry: 3400/Haou: 4000

Across the field from him, Haou seemed amused, if not impressed, by Harry's move and even proved it when he applauded, "Nice work, Harry: I'm starting to understand how it was your strong spirit that was the reason the Powers decided I was to be reborn in you. Perhaps next time, I should consider the strength of my vessel's heart before intimidating him so much: very well, make your move."

Before drawing his next card, Harry actually took a moment to wipe sweat from his brow as he looked up at Lightning Golem, the sight of the dark monster making him feel a little uneasy, but he didn't let that stop him.

He remembered the many stories that Yugi and Seto had always told him about when they were backed into a corner and how they had escaped by believing in the Heart of the Cards – though Seto often said it was sheer luck and having the right deck.

Now Harry had to believe it too.

Placing his fingers over the cards, Harry closed his eyes as he drew his next card, putting his faith in that same spiritual power, without which, he knew, his body wouldn't stand a chance.

And neither would the world.

"Here we go…it's my move…"

So, a new adventure begins and it looks like Harry's not ready to throw in the towel just yet, but can he defy the apparent hand of Fate and seize command over the power of the Supreme King, or will the Boy-Who-Lived become a possible future Dark Lord?

Also, if Harry manages to succeed, how will Haou's presence and powers affect his future as a duellist and a wizard?
