Chapter 1: Momma Who Bore Me.

Momma and Daddy think that I'm napping.

Every day after lunch, I have to take a nap. If you'd met my brothers, you would understand. Emmy and Jakey are twins, and they are crazy. But they are the bestest big brothers ever, so I live with it. I usually sleep until the boys wake me up when they got home from school, but I got scared when I heard yelling downstairs. I got out of bed really quietly and went over to the door.

"Nae, would you keep your voice down. You're gonna wake up Bella." Daddy was trying to be quiet, but he sounded mad, like when the boys brokeded stuff.

"I wouldn't be yelling if you'd just let me leave, Charlie," Momma growled back.

"Where are you going?"

"Honestly, anywhere but here. I'm suffocating here. I can't deal with the old bitties gossiping, the people in this town knowing everything about me. Charlie, I have to get out of here. I'm sorry."

Daddy didn't answer right away. What did momma mean that she had to leave? For how long? Daddy wouldn't let her leave for too long. Momma wouldn't want to leave us, would she? I didn't know anything, and my eyes started to rain. Daddy finally answered, and he sounded really calm. That was never a good sign.

"And what about Bella? The Boys? You're just going to leave them, no explanations, no goodbyes?"

"It's better this way, Charlie," Momma said back.

"No. It's the coward's way out, and the kids deserve better than that, Nae." Daddy was really mad now. I opened the door a little so that I could hear them better.

"I can't tell them, they won't let me go, and the scene will make it worse for them."

"No. You don't get to act like you being noble. You're doing it this way so that I have to explain it and not you. Like I said, the coward's way out."

"Please, just let me go, Charlie before the boys get home."

Daddy didn't say anything, but I heard the boards in the entryway creak and his boots clomping on the floor. I heard the front door open and waited for it to shut.

"Tell the kids that I love them and that I'm sorry."

"I'm not in the habit of lying to my kids." Daddy sounded empty. I just wanted to hug him to make him feel better.

"Bye Charlie," Momma said, and the screen door shut. Daddy must've slammed the front door before he thought about me napping because he said a bad word right after the door banged. Daddy was never that angry. He never threw stuff or broke things. Jakey had punched the wall a couple of times, and Emmy goes outside and kicks his soccer ball at the fence, but Daddy never did anything loud when he was mad. Momma had really made him upset. She made me really upset too.

Mommas weren't supposed to leave. Mommas were supposed to love you, and play with you, and kiss your booboos. Mommas were supposed to help you color in your coloring books and change your dolly's clothes. Mommas were supposed to hug and kiss you after nightmares. Mommas don't leave. They stayed, and they love you. Why was my Momma leaving? She can't leave.

My eyes were raining so bad now that I couldn't even find my stuffed Belle doll for a hug. I wiped my eyes and ran to my big girl bed. I jumped under my Beauty and the Beast comforter and hide my head under it. I don't want to ever come back out. Out from under here, my momma had left us. She left me, and Emmy, and Jakey. She left Daddy.

Daddy. I needed to make sure he was okay. Daddy was so mad and upset. I grabbed Belle, put on my fluffy yellow robe, and went over to the door. I cracked my door again and listened. I couldn't hear anything. I opened the door the rest of the way and tip-toed to the top of the stairs. I waited and took a breath. I knew that Daddy would hear me as soon as I stepped on the stairs. I grabbed the lower railing that Daddy put up just for me and made my way down as quietly as I could. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I looked into the kitchen. No Daddy. When I looked in the parlor, I could see him hunched over with his hands in his hair. The last time Daddy did that was when Papa Swan fell on the ice last Christmas. I moved to the archway.

"Daddy?" I whispered. He jumped a little and then turned to look over at me. I could see that Daddy's eyes were raining too.

"Oh, princess. I'm sorry," he started as he wipes his eyes. "Did I wake you?" He got up and came over to kneel in front of me.

"No, Momma did." I shouldn't have said that. Daddy hung his head.

"Princess, how much did you hear?"

"From where you tolded Momma she was gonna wake me up," I whispered. I didn't want to make daddy sadder, but I didn't want to lie either.

"Oh Sweetie, I'm so sorry that you had to hear that." Daddy picked Belle and me up and bought us over to the couch. He sat down and put us on his lap. "I was hoping that you slept through it."

I shook my head, and my eyes started to rain again.

"Oh, princess, please don't cry," Daddy said as he started to rub my back. "We are going to be okay." Daddy hugged me to his chest and kissed my hair. "We're going to figure this out." He just let me cry and stain his uniform. After a while, I calmed down a bit.

"Daddy?"

"Yes, princess."

"Did I make Momma wanna weave?" I asked. It's all that made sense, I was the one that was home. She was okay being a Momma after the boys were born, but she left now that I was around. I had to be the reason Momma wanted to leave.

"Damn you, Nae," Daddy said. I don't think that I was supposed to hear that. "Princess, no. Absolutely not. I never want you to think that. She left because of her. You did nothing but be the pretty, loving, little princess that you always are."

"But why did she weave then?"

"Well… Sweetie, Momma had to leave because she wasn't ready to be a mommy."

"But she was for the boys. Why she weave now?"

"She wasn't then either, but… I don't know. I guess she tried but it became too much. But it will never be your fault, princess. Ever, you hear me?"

I nodded and tucked my head back into Daddy's neck. He held me tight, and I felt a little better.

"Maybe Momma wasn't ready, but Daddy is. You're never going to lose me, princess. I'm not going anywhere." Daddy promised. "God, I love princess hugs," he growled in my ear and squeezed me tighter. I giggled and hugged him tighter too.

"I wuv papa bear hugs."

"Good, because Daddy's going to give them until you get sick of 'em."

"Never."

"That's what I like to hear. How about you and I go to the school to pick up the boys and meet Nana and Papa at the diner. We can have a family meeting and talk it out, okay?"

"Okay, Daddy. Let's go."

Daddy and I got into his cruiser after I got dressed, and we headed to the school. Daddy said that I could bring Belle in case I got upset when he told the boys. I knew that Jakey and Emmy were going to be upset, probably mad like Daddy. Daddy said that everyone was going to come home after the diner and talk about Momma leaving. I wonder what Daddy told Nanny and Poppy.

We pulled up to the school and Daddy grabbed me and Belle and walked into the main office. Daddy set me down and grabbed my hand as we headed to the front desk.

"Hello, Chief," said the lady behind the counter. All I could see was her big curly brown hair. "What can I do for you? Oh, you must be little Bella. What a little darling. And who is that?" The lady pointed at Belle and made me giggle.

"This is Belle. She's a princess. She marries the beast. Well, after he changes back."

"Oh, well she is very pretty. Just like you."

"Afternoon, Shelly." Daddy laughed as I explained. "I just came in to ask you to call the boys' teacher and tell them that they aren't going on the bus today."

"Sure thing, Chief. Are you heading somewhere?"

"Just meeting my parents for a late lunch."

"Oh, that's nice. Let me go make that call before I miss them. Go ahead and have a seat you two. I'll be right back."

"Thanks, Shelly."

Ms. Shelly walked over to where the phone hung on the wall and dialed the number. She turned toward us and smiled. Ms. Shelly reminded me of Gramma. Oh no.

"Daddy, what 'bout Gramma and Grampa? Do we still get to see them?"

"I… we'll have to talk to them and figure that out, princess. I don't see why not but one way or the other, you guys will have Nanny and Poppy, okay?"

I nodded and snuggled into his side. "Daddy, do you have my Chip book?"

"Yep, right here in your backpack, princess. Do you want Daddy to read to you?"

I nodded again and settled in to listen to Daddy read my favorite book.

"I spoke to Mrs. Denali, and she said that she would send the boys here when the bell rings in… 8 minutes."

"Thank you, Shelly. Bella and I can sit here and wait, right?"

"Of course, Chief."

Ms. Shelly walked away to work at her desk, and Daddy and I settled back in to read about Chip and Mrs. Potts. I knew that Daddy was trying to keep me distracted. He wasn't doing very well. All I could think of as Daddy read to me was how Mrs. Potts would never leave Chip alone. Mrs. Potts loved Chip. Did my Momma love me still? I knew that this wasn't something to ask here. I don't think I want to know the answer ever.

I loved it when Daddy read to me. He always made different voices and sounds while he was reading. He even does Mrs. Potts' voice, but Daddy's Beast voice is the best. Sometimes, Emmy and Jakey read and do voices too. Jakey would be Cogsworth, and Emmy would be Lumiere, but Daddy was always the best.

I got lost in the story, and when the bell rings, it makes me jump a little. How did the big kids not get scared every day? A few minutes later, Daddy and I had everything packed up when the door opened, and my brothers hurried into the room.

"Hey Dad, Belly," Emmy said as he came over to hug both of us. "Are we going somewhere?"

"Hi, Bells, hi Dad," Jakey said as he followed Emmy in.

"We're going to the diner to met Nan and Pop for a late lunch," Daddy answered.

"Good, I'm hungry."

"Emmett, you're always hungry," Jakey said, laughing.

"So are you," Emmy said back.

"True."

"Alright, kids. Let's go to the car."

Daddy grabbed my hand and my backpack, and we followed the boys out to the cruiser. I climbed into the back and my car seat. Emmy climbed in after me and helped me with my buckles. Once we were settled and buckled in, Daddy pulled out of his spot and headed to the exit. Daddy looked at us in the rearview mirror.

"We have to talk later when we get home. Nan and Pop are coming home with us, and we're having a family meeting. I want you to understand that I'm going to make sure that everything is okay."

"Okay, Dad. What's wrong?" Emmy asked.

"We'll talk about it after the diner, okay?"

"Okay," the boys answered.

No one talked for the rest of the ride to the diner. When we got there, Daddy packed next to Nanny and Poppy's Chevy truck. We could see them sitting on the bench outside of Margie's diner. Nana looked really mad, but I knew why. Nana was protective of us. She was mad at Momma. Papa looked sad. Probably upset that Daddy had to go through this. I was too.

We jumped out of the car and ran over to them, giving them a big group hug. I loved Nana and Papa's hugs. Nana was warm and soft, and she smelled like a Nana should. At least how my Nana should smell, craft paint and cucumber melon body wash. Papa was like Daddy but older. He smelled like Daddy's cologne, and he had a lip caterpillar like Daddy, but Papa's was grey and white.

"Well, Bella-bug, I see you brought your best friend. Good afternoon, Princess Belle. Good afternoon, Princess Bella," Papa said and bowed like we were real princesses. Papa pulled me up and put me on his shoulders. My Papa was silly. He was the only one besides me that knew that Belle was real. I giggled and kissed Papa's hair and forehead.

"Oh my handsome boys, and my little Petunia," Nana said as she kissed us each on the cheek. Even Daddy. Nana always calls me Petunia, because they are my favorite flowers that she plants in her garden.

"Should we go eat, kiddos?" Daddy asked, and we nodded. We walked in and waited for Margie to seat us.

"Well, to what do I owe the honor of the whole Swan family comin' in today? Good to see y'all. Table or the family booth?"

"Just a family lunch, Margie," Nana said, "The family booth will be fine. Less chance of the boys getting into trouble."

"Hey!" the boys protested and then they shrugged.

Margie laughed at them. "You know, boys. Your sister is younger than you, but she behaves like a little lady. You may want to follow her example." She winked at me and then lead the way to the family booth and let us sit before passing out the menus. I climbed into the booth and sat between Daddy and Nana. The boys slide in on the other side and Papa sat on the end to corral the boys into the table. They got into trouble a lot. Nana and Margie talked while we got settled. I think they went to school together while they were little girls. That was a long time ago, but they were still really close. I hope I have a friend like that someday.

"What'll ya have," Margie asked after she flipped her notebook over.

"I'll have the Chicken Salad, Mar," Nana said.

"Please, Marie. I already had that written down," Margie said, laughing. "How about for the little princesses?"

"I'll have the baked potato soup, please," I said. "Belle and I are joining to share."

"Oh, okay. I'll make sure to bring two spoons."

"Thank you."

"How 'bout you, CJ," Margie asked, I giggled. Margie and Nanny were the only ones who could call Daddy CJ. Everyone else called him Chief or Charlie, but Daddy was a junior, so Nanny and Margie called him CJ. Daddy always blushed a little, too.

"That sounds good, Bells. I'll have that too, in the adult size."

"All right, CJ." Margie looked to the boys who were wearing their menus as hats

"Boys, do you think that you can stop horsing around with the menus long enough to answer Margie?" Daddy said and gave them his "no monkey business" look.

The boys only stopped long enough to order the chicken fingers and side of mac and cheese. They looked at Daddy and put the menus back in

"Charlie, the Steak dinner?" Margie asked Papa.

"Is there anything else on the menu?" Papa answered, and Nana rolled her eyes at him.

"Not that you'll eat, you picky old goof," Nana said. "Great role model you are for my grandbabies."

"I'm a wonderful role model, aren't I, Belly," Papa asked as he pushed his nose like a button and his tongue popped out of his mouth. That always made me laugh.

"Charles, not at the table," Nana said like she was Papa's Mommy. Papa was pulling on his ears to make his tongue go back and forth, and the boys and I were all laughing really hard.

"Never change, Pops," Daddy said with a chuckle. I think he's glad Papa has us laughing.

"Okay, all. I'll put your order right in," Margie said and turned to walk away.

Daddy looked at the three of us and sighed. "When we get home, we are going into the living room and talking. Nan and Pops are going to be there with us. Now, Bella already knows some of it, but the dinner isn't the place to have this talk, okay? I want you kids to know that no matter what happens, Nan, Pops, and I are going to be here."

Emmy and Jakey looked nervous. I would be too if I didn't know what Daddy was talking about. I didn't want to see the boys upset when Daddy told them. I could see that Nana was mad about something.

"Is Bella sick, Dad?" Jakey asked as Emmy said, "She's not going to die, right, Dad?". They both looked at me like we were in a haunted house, and I was the ghost.

"Boys, calm down. Bells is fine. She's not going anywhere, okay? We'll talk about it at home, alright?" Daddy said, and the boys nodded their heads.

"Yeah, Bella's not going—"

"Ma, please. Not here," Daddy said. Nana was mad at Momma. That made sense. Nana was like a momma bear and always protected us. Nana shook her head.

"Sorry, son. I'm just so mad I could spit." Now I knew Nana was really mad. She always tells me that ladies never spit.

"I know, but we need to be at home first."

"Okay, I know."

That was when Margie brought out our food. We all started to eat and tried not to think too hard. Nana asked the boys how school was going, and they told her that they started learning about frogs in science class and that Mrs. Denali was letting them keep one as a class pet. Gross. I hope she didn't do that when I was in kindergarten. Papa talked to me and Belle and asked about the castle and how Chip was liking the new cabinet that he and Daddy built in my room. He was the smartest in our family besides me because he knew that Chip had feelings. Daddy talked to Nana about Uncle Billy and Aunt Sarah. They had twins that were my age, but they lived down in Portland, so we didn't see them very much. Uncle Billy is a policeman like Daddy and Aunt Sarah wants to move home, so they are coming to Forks in two months and never leaving ever again. Aunt Maggie lived down the street from our house. I loved Aunt Maggie. She is Daddy and Aunt Sarah's baby sister, and she teaches art at the high school. She is my bestest friend, besides Belle of course. She let me paint with her in her studio and teaches me how to paint trees and mountains.

The closer we got to finishing our meal, the quieter everyone got. Daddy didn't want to tell the boys about Momma, I could tell. The boys were gonna be so upset maybe I could help. We paid the bill, hugged Margie, and Daddy leads the way out to the cars.

"We'll follow you and the kids back to the house, CJ," Nana said as she hugged Daddy. She whispered something into Daddy's ear, and he nodded.

Daddy turned to us and unlocked the doors for us. The boys helped me in the car and helped me reach my buckles. Daddy drove home really slowly. The boys seemed to understand that this family meeting wasn't going to be a good one. I hoped that the boys didn't get too mad. I have no idea how Daddy was going to tell them.

We pulled into the driveway and got out of the car. We walked into the house and went into the living room. I heard Nana and Papa's car in the driveway, and Daddy went to get the front door. Jakey and Emmy sat on either side of me on the couch.

"Do you know what Dad has to tell us, Belly?" Jake asked.

"Yeah, but Daddy said he wanted to tell you," I answered, and Jakey didn't push it.

Daddy, Nana, and Papa were talking in the hall and they were whispering. After a while, they came into the living room. Daddy sat down in his armchair and Nana and Papa sat on the loveseat. Daddy didn't look so good.

"Okay, boys," Daddy started. "Unfortunately, Belly already knows what's going on. Today, your Mom packed all of her stuff and decided to leave. Now, before I go any farther, none of this is any of your kids' fault, alright?" Daddy said, and he waited for both of them to nod. Jakey and Emmy both looked mad. "I don't want you to worry about anything, alright? We are going to figure it out as a family. You kiddos have anything you want to ask; I'll try to explain it as best I can." Daddy said, Jakey looked too mad to say anything, but Emmy raised his hand.

"Yeah, bud?" Daddy said.

"So Mom just left in front of Belly and thought that was okay?" Emmy asked pretty boldly. He seemed to be madder than he was showing on his face.

"To be fair, Bells was napping and got woken, not that that makes it much better."

Jakey was starting to breathe better. He turned to look at me. "Bellsy, are you okay?"

"Yeah, Jakey. Daddy and I talkeded before we picked you guys up from school. I was just worried about you guys. I knew you would be mad." I said and I could feel the rain in my eyes again. "Daddy said that it was all going to be okay," I said. Jakey nodded really slowly. Emmy was being quiet and when I looked at him, his eyes were raining too. I leaned over and gave him a big hug. He pulled me tight to his chest.

"Bella's right. We are all going to be okay, we are going to figure this out as a family," Daddy said as he sat on the coffee table in front of us. "Nana and Papa are going to move in with us. They're going to be here to get you off the bus when I have the day shift. As far as your Gram and Gramp, we'll have to talk to them and figure it out."

"Yeah," Emmy said suddenly. Emmy was yelling, and his face was really red. "Who needs her anyway? If she doesn't want to be our mom anymore let her go!" he finished, pushing off the back of the couch and running up the stairs.

"I'm with Em," Jake said, getting off the couch and following after Emmy. When Jakey made it to their room, he slammed the door.

Daddy put his head in his hands. "That's what I was afraid of."

Nana came over and sat next to Daddy. "CJ, that's to be expected. Knowing my grandbaby boys, they are madder that it happened in front of Bella than her leaving. Hon, they'll be all right. It'll it's going to take some time, and she better hope I don't see her anytime soon. I mean that," Nana said. She looked toward me. "Bella, why don't you see if your brothers will talk to you."

I nodded and as I passed, Nana and Daddy gave me big hugs. Papa scrambled my hair and smiled when I went by. As I got to the top of the stairs, I could hear Jakey's basketball hitting the wall. I walked over to their door and knock gently.

"Who is it?" Emmy yelled. He sounded mad and sad.

"It's Bella," I said. I hope they weren't mad at me.

"Come in, Bells," Emmy said, and I opened the door and walked in. Emmy and Jakey were both sitting on their beds. Jakey was holding his basketball in his lap. Emmy had moved toward his pillows so that I could sit at the foot of the bed. I could get up on the bed without a stool, so Emmy lifted me. Once I was next to him on the bed, he tickled my armpits, and I giggled.

"Emmy!" I squealed. "Stop it!"

"Okay," he said, smiling a little more. "You okay, baby sis? I don't like that you had to hear Mom and Dad fight. I'm sorry we weren't here. We're your brothers, we're supposed to protect you."

"Nana thought that was why you were mad. I was worried you would think that I was the reason that Momma left because I was the youngest. I don't know why Momma didn't want to be our Mommy anymore, but she didn't want to leave until after me," I said, and my eyes were wet again.

"No, Bellsy! It's not your fault. Jakey and I know that. And, hey, it's Mom's loss if she doesn't what to be around us anymore. We have each other, and Dad, and Nana, and Papa, and Aunt Maggie, and Aunt Sarah and Uncle Billy. We'll figure it out. Okay?"

"Yeah, thank you, guys," I said. Jakey got up and sat on the other side of me.

"No problem, Belly. Like Em said, we're your big bros, we're supposed to take care of you. And Dad said we had to scare away boys that looked at you." Jakey said, and the last part made me giggle.

I stayed in with the boys until Daddy and Nana came to get us for a before-bed snack since we ate so early. We had peanut butter sandwiches and milk and Papa had me try it with dill pickles like he had it. It was really good, and Daddy eats them that way too.

When we were done, Nana sent us up to wash your faces and brush our teeth. When we were done, we all hugged goodnight and went to our rooms. Today had been a long day, and I was really tired. I laid under my cover and held Belle to my chest. My eyes started to rain again. Today was a bad day, I didn't want to be alone.

I grabbed Belle and threw my covers off. I opened the door gently and tiptoed out. I thought of the boys first, but their door was locked. I looked across the hallway, and Daddy's door was cracked open. His light was still on, and he was sitting on the edge of his bed. I knocked on the door lightly.

"Daddy, can I come in?"

"Of course, Princess. Are you doing okay?"

"Kind of. Can I sleep in here? I don't think I can sleep by myself tonight."

"Of course, you can, sweetie," Daddy said picking me up and laying us both down on the pillows. He pulled the cover over us and snuggled me to his chest. "There we go. I love you, Princess. The boys and I wouldn't know what to do without you, sugar plum. I promise that we are all going to be okay, even if it takes some time. Now, let's get some sleep because you and I are helping Nana and Papa pack up their stuff tomorrow. Don't worry, Nana promise to pay us in Nana-cakes."

"Chocolate chip pancakes! Okay." I snuggled into his chest and tried to get to sleep. Right before I dozed off there was a knock on the door.

"Come in, boys," Daddy said as he winked at me.

"Hi, Dad. Jake and I were wondering… I told you Bella beat us in here. Is there any room left in the bed?" Emmy asked from the doorway.

"Get in the bed, boys. It's a king, you know there's room."

"Okay," they said at the same time and scurried into the bed. We all said our goodnights and snuggled in together.

"I love you, Kiddos," Daddy said before we all drifted off.

I love you, too, Daddy.

End note: Well, there is the first chapter of my new story. I hope that you guys enjoyed it. I can't guarantee this length for every chapter (this one wouldn't shut up!), but I would like to try for it. These first couple of chapters are going to led into the main story that starts at Bella's junior year and Emmett and Jake's Senior year. Please leave a review and let me know what you think so far. I will be posting this story on Saturdays. See you next Saturday!
