Carlisle's POV Chapter 4
I went upstairs to check on Alice when everyone had left. She was calmer now, didn't shake much, until she would scream. Edward hated being in the house, reading her thoughts, seeing what she was going through. It hurt him. Jasper came upstairs slowly just then. He walked in and asked "What's the diagnosis, Doc?"
"I don't know. I have friends all over the world, Jasper, and no one knows what's going on. I'm starting to get worried to be honest." He said sighing. "Don't tell Esme, though." He said quickly looking at me. "If she finds out... we can't have that. We just need high hopes." I said walking over to him and patting his back.
Jaspers POV
"Carlisle can I speak to you in your office?" I asked quickly, nervous of what he would say when I asked him my question. He nodded, sensing the fear in my voice. He walked into his office, me following him.
"So Jasper is everything-"
"Do you think I would be ok in a big crowd?" I interrupted quickly before I could change my mind. Carlisle paused, thinking about his answer.
"I think you could." He said finally "It could still be painful for you, but if you hunted a lot before. I mean, you go to high school all the time." Carlisle said, getting up to put a couple of books away.
"What about interacting with people?" I asked him, nervous for his reaction. He paused again, thinking.
"I think it's possible, yes." Carlisle said continuing to put the books away. "Why?" He asked after a while.
"Well, when Alice finally found me, we searched for about two years before we found you guys. In that time, we did elope. I struggled a lot, even though there was only one elderly man, who did not smell appealing. I don't know, I feel bad. We all know Alice loves a big ceremony, and I feel that I took that experience away from her. I don't know, I just... I just felt that if you thought I could have a big wedding then..." I slowly stopped talking. I felt stupid. I sighed and buried my face in my hands. I suddenly felt a hand patting my back, and when I looked up, I saw Carlisle with a massive smile on his face. "If you had told me that, then absolutely. I know how much Alice means to you, and when it comes to love, nothing can get in the way. I know I would do anything to make Esme happy." Carlisle said still smiling. "You already do everything for Esme." I said, I mean he gave her a freakin' island for their anniversary like, what the heck? "But Alice is very understanding, if she knew that it would help you to not have a big fancy wedding, she would understand." Carlisle said walking over to his desk and sitting down.
"So I have your blessing?" I asked, hopeful now.
"Of course you do, Jasper." Carlisle said, and we hugged. I felt his super happy emotions and it made me smile. Just then a scream came out from Alice's room. I was instantly in our room, at her side holding her hand.
"Ali it's ok, it's ok, your ok." Carlisle said walking to her other side and rubbing her thigh. Esme came in just then, her eyes a dark golden, she clearly hadn't hunted enough.
"Esme..." Carlisle said walking over to her and embracing her while rubbing her back. Her emotions were sad, and it killed me. Esme was the happy person, (other then Alice, but even Alice has her bad days) and she was always feeling great.
"Es, hon, you need to hunt more. I'll go get you a dear or something, just let me change first. Stay here with Jasper." Carlisle said, letting go from the hug and leaving the room. Esme came and sat on the edge of the bed, holding one of Alice's hand, while I still had the other. We sat in silence for about ten minutes, alone with our thoughts.
Esme's POV
Jasper and I sat in silence for a while, until he suddenly said, "I've never said thanked you, Esme." He looked up at me slowly, and I smiled.
"What for, Jazz?" I asked, happy that he was talking.
"Everything. Believing in me when I had slip ups, not complaining when we had to move because of my slip ups, being there for me when I was down. I don't know, it's just, you're always nice to be around. Your emotions are always happy." He said letting go of Alice's hand and hugging me. I let go too and rubbed his back. He suddenly tightened his grip and started sobbing.
"Jazz..." I said, still rubbing his back.
"She's not going to wake up... she's... she's..."
"Shhh, baby. Jazz, your ok, it's going to be ok-" I was interrupted by a scream, and then the covers of the bed rustled around, and there I saw Alice. Sitting up, breathing, shaking.
