As my alarm clock woke me up, I shivered as the morning cold hit me.
If it was this cold inside, I wondered how cold it was outside.
Grabbing my toiletries, I went out the door and headed straight into the bathroom.
I had decided to wake up at least 30 minutes before dad and Bella so I could have the bathroom all to myself without having to fight for it with Bella.
Knowing her, she'd probably have wasted time in there so I could end up going to Forks on my first day late.
She was that bitchy.
She'd done it to me a couple of times after all.
And me?
I've gotten her back even worse.
You don't mess with me and expect to get away scot-free.
After I was done, I dressed in a white and brown striped sweater top, tucked into my blue tight skinny jeans making the sweater have a baggy look, and white sole sneakers.
After I was done, I decided to pack my hair in a cute bun as I didn't want it blowing around and distracting me on my first day. I let loose some stray curls to frame my face and cheek.
After I was done I put some light make up and lip gloss, grabbing my bag, dark sunglasses and phone and headed out of my room, almost tripping over my skate board I'd forgotten to place else where.
"Morning dad! Off already?"
I asked him as he ate his breakfast, not that you could even call it breakfast, and a cup of coffee that smelled so good as it wafted through my nose.
"Soon enough, just waiting so I can wish you both off."
I grinned as I poured myself coffee.
Dad already knew how obsessed with it I was.
"We'll be fine dad! Really, it's just like any other school."
But honestly, even I was already slightly nervous.
This wasn't just any school after all, most if not all the teachers there knew dad and would be super curious about the Chief's daughters who hadn't been home in years.
"Morning Charlie."
And that was something else I disliked about Bella.
It's like, she wanted to give dad hell for her moving here!
Why call him Charlie, why not dad.
I mean, even if you wanted to call him by his name which I did occasionally as a joke, call him that endearingly, and not as if his name was the very nightmare you associated with this town.
"Ah… Bella. You look, good."
I turned and raised an eyebrow.
She didn't look good.
Her eyes were red and itchy looking.
She'd probably been crying all night.
That made me feel a sliver of sympathy for her.
She really didn't fit in with Forks.
As I drank my coffee and stole a piece of bacon from dads plate as I wasn't in the mood for too much eating, I strolled into the living room.
It sort of reminded me of mom.
The small fireplace still held familiar looking pictures. From their marriage in Las Vegas, to Bella and I's births, to a couple of embarrassing toddler and preteen pictures and a handful of teenage pictures, though I caught some of dad and his close friends Billy and Harry from La Push and of course, dad's parents.
As Dad waved us goodbye, I headed back to the kitchen, rinsing my cup and turning to Bella who was slightly playing with her food.
I sighed, not believing what I was about to do.
"Hey, are you okay?"
She scoffed, not even looking at me.
"Why do you want to know? It's not like you care."
She said as she stood up to throw away the leftovers and wash the plate and I frowned at her.
"I was only asking you know, no need to be so rude."
"I didn't ask you to be nice Gabriella."
I breathed in through my nose. This was the real Bella most people never had the luck to meet.
She loved to pretend she was some nice, sweet, shy next door kind of girl, but oh I knew the real her.
Rude, scheming and mocking.
Anyone who looked or felt different she just had to say something about them.
She never liked the cheerleaders back in Phoenix, always called them shallow and unintelligible.
And she was also a pokenose.
Always putting her nose in people's business when it could even end up getting her in trouble or even killing her.
She didn't even care about her family, she was super selfish and I couldn't wait till the day she got what was coming to her.
She walked past me as she headed out and towards her truck and I rolled my eyes.
Served me right for even trying to be a nice sister.
I entered my car as she drove off, a grin on my face as I inhaled the somewhat new car smell.
It was rarely used after all. Grandpa was super careful with this baby, and now it was my baby.
"I'll treat her well Grandpa."
I said solemnly, before turning on the ignition and zooming off with a grin, elation rising in me.
I turned on the radio, nice hip-hop music filtering out at a decent volume and I contemplated retracting the roof as I wore my dark sunglasses.
It'd make me look all badass and mysterious after all.
But it was slightly drizzling.
I didn't want anything affecting this car after all.
The ride to school wasn't that long as the car could go quite a speed and I remember zooming past Bella a while back.
Forks High.
It wasn't difficult to find as it was just off the highway.
The school was like a collection of matching houses built with maroon colored bricks. Trees and shrubs everywhere as the eye can see.
I quickly found a parking space, turning off the ignition and music and covering my smile as I saw people stare in admiration at my car.
Yeah, that's right… be in awe.
I quickly opened the car, hanging my shades on my head and grabbing my bag as I closed the door.
"Whoa that car is super cool!"
I heard someone whisper shout and my grin grew on my face as I walked through the building.
There weren't much students out and about as it was slightly drizzling and cold, only about 10 or so I could see.
I went through the first building, entering the first office I saw.
It was quite warm, making me sigh slightly. It would take a while to get used to the cold again.
One more thing to thank Bella for.
A red haired woman in a purple shirt looked up as I walked in.
"Can I help you?"
"Yes. Hi, I'm Gabriella Swan. I'm new here."
I gave her a friendly grin which she returned with a beam.
It would seem everyone was curious about Chief Swan's kids.
"Ah yes. Gabriella… Isn't your sister with you?"
She wondered and I shook my head.
"No, but she should be here soon. We drove separately."
She nodded.
"Ah… Well this here is your schedule. And this is your map as well. You have rather similar classes to your sister though not everything. If you have some questions, do not hesitate to come find me, or ask the other students, I'm sure they'd be willing to help."
She grinned warmly and I returned it, turning to open the door when it was pushed open with force and quite rudely, making me step back fast so it wouldn't hit me.
My sister came in without so much as a 'Sorry' and walked right past me, making me roll my eyes as I walked out and closed the door.
When I got back outside again, the wave of cold air hit me and I slightly hugged myself as I walked back to my car.
The place was slightly filled now and so I decided to follow the moving cars into the school proper and found a parking space easily.
The lot was quite crowded and I wondered how my sister would fair.
There were different cars around, most of them the old types reminiscent of Bella's truck, though there were a couple of new ones here and there, though calling them new was speaking lightly as even they could be a couple of years old or to even decades.
I did spot a nice looking silver Volvo which stood out like an eagle in the midst of chickens.
Of course, mine stood out as well.
It couldn't help that it was sleek, shiny and purple!
But hey, it looked good.
I was suddenly reminded of when my mum had just gotten the car, she'd had this totally grand idea to paint the car pink with glitters but thankfully many people had told her not to do it.
Blessing in disguise.
As I got out a couple of people stopped to stare at the new face and I ignored them, walking towards the sidewalk.
Its always good to look forward when trying to avoid catching the eyes of strangers. It hadn't failed me.
Soon enough, I spotted the class with a large '3' on it and entered walking past people who hung their coats.
The class wasn't too full then as the bell hadn't rung, and so I headed straight to the teachers, ignoring some curious eyes with a smile.
With a slip in hand, I cleared my throat and he looked up.
"Hi! Mr. Mason! I'm Gabriella Swan. I was told I needed to give you this slip to sign?"
I said with a grin, trying to cover my laughter as his eyes widened at my last name.
"Ah… uh, yes. Yes I'm Mr. Mason."
He slightly stuttered and I shivered a bit in disgust that this was my English teacher. He looked creepy. The way his eyes kept moving back to me and I was sure he'd do the same to my sister.
After he returned it, he directed me to an empty seat which I thanked him for, and bounced over to it, settling down as even more people entered the class.
By this time, Bella had entered, looking slightly uncomfortable at eyes that followed her and I covered my grin before looking down at my reading list and nodding.
I'd read them already. Unlike dad, the women in his life, including mum, were romantics at heart, but unlike mum who thought everyday of her life was a fairytale meant to be lived, or Bella who always reread Romeo and Juliet and obsessed with their unfortunate love story, I never let love get to my head.
Hey, I was still 16 years old!
I had a lot to do, love was one of the things at the far end of it.
I knew I could date if I wanted, I'd gone on some while in Phoenix, but falling for someone was definitely not something I saw myself doing anytime soon. Having fun, yes, hanging out yes, maybe even going on a date, but love… it wasn't on my to-do list as of now.
As the bell finally rang for classes to begin and the droning voice of Mr. Mason began, I ignored the inquisitive eyes of every other person and got lost in my imagination.
The class was finally over and I eagerly grabbed my things and walked out, ignoring Bella who had this oily looking guy talking to her like she was the most interesting thing in the world.
I chuckled.
That was sure to get to her head.
"Hi there! You must be the new girl, I'm Mike. Mike Newton."
I turned to see a boy who had obviously not been in my first class bound up to me.
He had that 'Jock' stereotype down to the tee. His varsity jacket, his blonde hair and baby blue eyes and his smile.
Okay, he was pretty cute. Like an over eager puppy.
I gave him a big grin and was rewarded with his red ears.
Ha!
Still got it!
"Hi, I'm Gabriella Swan, but everyone calls me Gabby! Nice to meet you."
I shook his hand and he grinned, looking at me like I was the cure to world hunger.
"Uh…"
He snapped out of it.
"Oh! Yeah, I'm… Where's your next class?"
I looked down at my schedule with a small laugh as he brought his hand to his neck, embarrassed.
"Oh Music! With Graham. Building 4."
He gave a happy jump.
"Great! I mean uh, me too. Just this way."
I covered a giggle, amused at his overzealous nature.
Like I said.
Over eager puppy.
Music class went rather well and I enjoyed it. Mrs. Graham was quite talented at what she did. And I stuck with one of the violins I spotted.
I also introduced myself to a girl named Angela Weber. She was a really nice girl though quiet, and I knew we were going to be good friends.
I'd make sure of it.
My last 2 classes before lunch were the same with Bella's. I spotted her with some unfamiliar faces though a bunch of them were from the first class of the day, and even my music class.
I did see her face twist and turn every once in while letting me know she wasn't enjoying the conversations.
As for me, I had nothing against the conversations as they were asking basic mundane things.
It made me seem more approachable to them than Bella was as I smiled, grinned, laughed and replied their questions.
Soon it was lunch time.
Great.
I was starving.
I ended up following Angela Weber to her friends table where coincidentally, Bella was sat.
Wow.
Having the same group of friends.
Yay.
Sarcasm.
She glared slightly as she saw me but I returned a huge fake grin to her.
"Hey guys, this is Gabby Swan."
Angela introduced me as we sat down.
"Hi guys"
I grinned.
"Oh yeah, we already met!"
Mike spoke up, moving to seat next me and pushing Eric Yorkie who had moved to seat next to me excitedly.
"You remember me right?"
He asked, over eagerly and I spotted a brownish blonde girl look at us jealously.
Ah…
Not my fault.
"Yeah sure! Mike right?"
His beaming smile could have blinded the sun itself.
"And I'm Tyler. Tyler Crowley beautiful."
He winked at me and I chuckled, waving at him.
He was a handsome mocha skinned boy and had this player vibe going with him as his arm was around a blonde haired snooty girl who introduced herself as Lauren Mallory.
Jessica Stanley was next and I knew Bella would never integrate fully with this group as they were not the kind of people she could get along with.
Eric Yorkie and Ben Cheney were next. Ben seemed like a quiet and nice guy whose eyes occasionally slid to Angela's direction when she wasn't looking. It was super cute.
All in all, they weren't bad. They all seemed to have their individual quirks, though I did spot Mike staring between Bella and I, like he was trying to gauge who was more approachable or something.
Ah!
Poor boy.
As conversation picked up, Bella quietly spoke to Jessica.
"Who're they?"
She said, looking intensely somewhere, stars in her eyes and I turned, curious, to where she was staring and my eyes widened.
Okay.
I had no idea supermodels went here!
What were they even doing in this town?
It just didn't fit how they looked!
"Oh, those are Dr. And Mrs. Cullen's foster kids. Dr. Cullen is like this, Foster god/match maker."
Jessica whispered excitedly.
I nodded at the adoptive part
None of them looked alike. Well, they were similar looking, but nothing could say they were siblings. Except maybe those 2 blondes, but even still, that was stretching it too far.
I zoned out on whatever it was Jessica was saying. Apparently 2 pairs where a couple and the bronze haired lanky looking one was single. He was handsome yes, but his face was uninviting. Like all of them.
He had this… unbothered snobby look, like everyone around them were ants meant to be squashed by their shoes.
It made me frown.
It was slightly unsettling.
And it was so unappealing and unattractive, no matter how good looking they were.
And wasn't that something.
They all had unusually white washed pale skin and they just sat. Unmoving, only occasionally turning or talking. It made me wonder just how introverted they actually were.
Their eyes were all the same color. A sort of golden yellow. It was sort of creepy as it was bright.
I quickly looked away when the now dubbed Edward Cullen looked in our direction.
I looked up again and stared curiously at them and he caught my eyes.
He had this frown on his face as he stared at not just me but also my sister, not in a bad way but also not in a good way either.
I frowned back at him and he looked down, before exchanging looks occasionally with my sister.
I decided to ignore him and his family.
Honestly, it was like staring at marble statues. They were good looking yes, but the artist hadn't been able to capture the… soul, in them.
Lunch passed soon and biology wasn't so different.
What did catch my eyes though, was the way that Cullen guy kept staring at my sister.
Like he hated her very presence.
Like, her very presence disgusted him so much as he distanced himself from her.
I frowned.
Okay, even if Bella was a pain to be around, this was way too much!
Because immediately the bell rang, he was already up on his feet, out the door in a couple of strides.
I stared weirdly at Bella, wondering if she had anything to do with that.
Bella seethed as she walked towards the gym, Mike talking to her though she barely even listened as he kept alternating between asking about herself and about her sister.
She scoffed.
And then there was this Edward boy.
Why had he been staring at her like that.
Like she was the cause of his problems.
Why couldn't he have stared at her sister like that!
Oh how she'd have loved that!
"And don't worry about Cullen really, he's weird. Besides, if I'd been sitting next to you, I'd have definitely spoken to you."
Mike spoke in a seemingly flirty way and Bella gave him a small smile though she still felt slight irritation, and nervousness as she wondered why Edward Cullen had treated her that way.
She needed to know more about him.
He'd definitely caught her attention, and even if she was slightly wary, she still needed to know what was wrong.
What exactly she did to warrant such… hate, from him.
Gabby.
I spotted my sister sitting down as the rest of us played volleyball. A small snicker escaped my lips.
She'd shown everyone just how unsportsmanlike she was and the coach had had to bench her.
Playing was slightly fun though.
Jessica, for all gossip harebrained girl she acted like, was actually pretty good at the sport too. The boys were playing a game of basketball nearby.
I'd have loved to play, but the coach had said next time.
The final bell rang and I grinned.
I'd survived the first day… well, my first day.
I ended up exchanging numbers with Angela and Jessica.
There were talks of hanging out as well which I definitely didn't mind but there was no fixed date yet.
As I walked out the parking lot with Angela, after she escorted me back to submit my slip, I noticed just how colder it seemed to be.
The rain had stopped but the wind was really catching up.
As I walked towards my car I turned to Angela.
"I'll see you tomorrow Angela! Or do you need a ride?"
I gestured to my car. Yes, I was very proud of it.
Angela smiled thankfully but shook her head.
"Thanks but I'm catching one with Jessica, maybe another time! See you tomorrow!"
As I drove out the parking lot and towards home, I spotted those strange Cullen teens arguing with each other and it looked slightly heated.
I wonder what that was about.
Cullen Household.
"I have to leave!"
Edward hissed as soon as he entered their home, slightly startling his mother figure, Esme.
"Edward? What's wrong?"
She asked softly as the rest walked in but he only ignored her as he sped out the backyard and into the forest to possibly hunt.
Esme turned to her kids.
"It would seem Edward has experienced his very first singer."
Emmett boomed with a slight grin as he flopped on a sofa, staring at a huge flat screen TV.
Esme gasped.
"Singer?? Did…"
She said unsurely but Alice shook her head.
"No. Everything's fine Esme."
"Fine?!"
Rosalie hissed, glaring at the direction Edward left from.
"Everything is not fine! He almost exposed us today!"
"But he didn't… Really Rosalie, everything will be okay."
Alice tried to make her foster sister see sense.
"Are you sure?! You saw the way the idiot stared at her in the cafeteria, I swear if he tries anything with that human!"
"Not just her."
Jasper spoke up for the very first time and the 3 women turned to him.
"What?"
Jasper shrugged as they turned to him. He finally looked slightly relaxed away from the human blood bags as Emmett jokingly called them, though the strong feelings going around the family was making him antsy as well.
Alice moved to rub his arm and he gave her a thankful grin.
"Not just that particular human. Her sister as well. He can't seem to read both their minds."
Rosalie snarled.
"The idiot didn't even deign to say that! Will they be threats?!"
Alice seemed faraway away as she stared at seemingly nothing before shaking her head.
"Not the other girl, but Isabella Swan? We have to keep Edward from her. He'll grow… curious of her, them both but… mainly her."
Emmett sighed from where he watched the TV.
"Are we moving again?"
"Absolutely not!"
Esme moved to calm Rosalie who looked ready to destroy Edward limb from limb.
"Calm yourself Rosalie. Carlisle will be back in a few hours. We'll have a discussion about all this. Probably send Edward to Alaska for a few days or something."
"Yeah, maybe he'd finally accept just who his mate is!"
Rosalie huffed and Emmett chuckled.
"Please! He finally put two and two together months ago but he's too blind with anger and hatred of our kind to even acknowledge it! Don't get your hopes up darling."
Esme sighed as she hoped with all her undead heart that Edward wouldn't make any mistakes.
Thanks for reading!!
