The following afternoon, I accompanied a sullen looking Bella to the thrift store as dad didn't exactly have much groceries… or groceries that would be cook worthy.
Bella and I subconsciously decided to man the kitchen whenever we had the time and I honestly didn't mind.
Weekend would come soon and so I hoped to make something to take to the Blacks.
As I came down from Bella's truck, bopping to music playing on my phone and moving to it, I noticed Bella stare at a direction and I looked to see those Cullen people again.
They were honestly good-looking but their good-looking was… odd.
I ignored them, moving towards the door and still bopping to my music while occasionally doing the robot dance and Bella sighed by my side.
"Stop doing that, you're embarrassing me."
She said stiffly, her face slightly red and I scoffed.
"You're the one embarrassing me sis. Stop acting so stiff before you—"
Bella stumbled on her feet.
"Fall."
I ended tonelessly and from afar, I heard a booming laughter which made Bella even more red and I snickered as I walked in, both of us going separate ways as we divided the shopping trip amongst each other so as to be faster.
When we finally did get back, Bella and I carried the groceries and set them on the dining.
She immediately went up the stairs without a word and I rolled my eyes as she promised to make something for dinner.
No need. She'd probably make something easy.
I, on the other hand, wanted to make something to commemorate my time back here in Forks. And also to give dad something nice too, while Bella mopped about whatever it was going on in her life.
Honestly, her middle name should be moody, and not something as beautiful as our grandmother's name, Marie.
I decided on steak we bought, with creamed corns and collard greens.
After that, I made sure to make baked potatoes filled with blue cheese, sour cream and some chopped herbs.
It was evening when Bella came down, possibly having forgotten about dinner and she saw me busy on it and sighed in relief.
"Oh… I thought I'd be late on it."
I snorted as I made my finishing touches, bringing out the potatoes from the oven. They smelt delicious.
"Don't worry about it. Go back to texting mum or something so she doesn't get too angry that you've been avoiding her calls."
Bella glared at me, folding her arms, looking slightly awkward.
"Wait… you knew she was worried? You could have told her I was fine!"
I sighed, turning to her as I removed and hanged the apron.
"You of all people know how mum is… of course she'd have preferred to hear from the source of her anxiousness."
She rolled her eyes.
Just then, dad walked in.
"Hey Chief!"
He turned to me, looking at the food slightly in anticipation and I snickered.
"It's alright daddy, your daughters are quite the efficient cooks, and besides, I used to have a part-time job at this restaurant last year, I know my way around the kitchen even more than her."
I gestured to Bella who grudgingly nodded.
"Ah… thanks then Gabby… and how was your day?... Both of you…"
He asked as he rummaged through the fully stocked fridge, grabbing a beer.
Bella shrugged, not sure what to say. I knew she had a slightly bad day, thanks to that Cullen guy.
"Fine. I'm uh, going to wash up and come down for dinner."
She said, turning to hurry up the stairs while tripping twice.
I turned to my dad as he took a sip of his drink.
"It was alright. Met some people.
Some were nice others while others were of the unknown variable… but, we'll see…"
He nodded.
"Good. And Gabby… I'm really glad you're here in Forks with me. You and your sister."
He said, slightly awkward and a warm feeling spread across my chest. I knew dad wasn't very good with feelings… similar to Bella, but he did try his best.
I grinned before walking up to him and hugging him.
"Me too dad… I'm glad to be here…"
The rest of the week went pretty much without any drama.
I got more acquainted with Angela and decided she would be a pretty good friend to have.
Jessica wasn't that bad, she did have her negatives, but, didn't we all?
She was bright, brilliant, quite materialistic and had a humongous crush on Mike who on the other hand seemed to be stuck between pursuing my sister and I.
It was slightly hilarious.
Lauren was plain materialistic, rude and strangely blunt.
She rarely antagonized except when she was irritated at someone, which was most of the time so… I avoided her whenever I could.
Bella kept on staring at the Cullen table for the rest of the week which in turn made me curious.
Exactly what was it that made her so interested in them anyway?!
We just moved here for Christ's sake!
Well… the one she was more interested in didn't come to school for the week, so…
Oh wow! Did Bella actually have a crush on someone?!
That's new!
Finally, it was weekend.
I woke up pretty early as I had quite a lot to do.
I wanted to head over to La Push, say hi to Billy and Jacob and maybe even run into Embry and Quil too.
It'd be nice to see those dorks again.
I decided on 2 loaves of banana bread, blue berry muffins and 2 apple pies, splitting them all between home and Billy's.
By noon, I grabbed all I needed and was off to La Push in my car.
Dad had a shift at the office today and wouldn't be back till at least 4 or 5 for a game he wanted to watch, so I knew the baked goods would do him good.
La Push was truly a beautiful place and the Quileute people were very nice. Well not all, but still a majority of them.
They were a free spirited sort with stories I'd love to hear but had no access to as I wasn't a part of their tribe.
I had to ask for directions from someone before I finally got Billy's home.
It had been over 2 years since I'd been there after all.
Billy Black, was the Chief of the Quileute people and head of the tribal council. He was a strong man, despite being confined to a wheelchair.
He led his people, was tough but warm at the same time.
And he was someone I regarded as an uncle.
Also… I was deeply jealous of his russet skin, well, the Quileute people in general.
Honestly!
They were a beautiful people!
The Black family house was a one story building. Red in color with a white front door. A small but comfy wooden house with narrow windows, slightly resembling a barn, a garage around the side of the house.
The house was surrounded by a thick band of trees and shrubbery.
As my car came to a stop, a small wistful smile escaped my lips, as I remembered the old times when I used to come here with Dad and Bella and play with Jacob and his sisters, Rachel and Rebecca. I know Rebecca married a year into college and dropped out, but that was all, and Rachel was in college studying to be a reporter like she'd always wanted.
I heard heavy thuds of footsteps and I grinned as I got out my car, and immediately the door slammed open and I found myself staring at 3 grinning dorks.
"Oh shit! I guess Jacob was right when he said you're really pretty now! Well, pretty hot!"
Was the first thing Quil said and I snorted.
"Oh please Ateara, I've always been good looking"
I said in jokingly smug way and they all laughed, Embry pushing the other 2 out of his way and rushing to hug me, twirling me around.
"Hey! I wanna hug her too!"
"Shut up Quil, you just wanna feel her up!"
"I'm a man."
"Yes, but you forget my father's the Chief of Police"
His answering gulp was everything and I chuckled.
"Wow, it's so good to see you guys again!"
Embry grinned.
"You too Gabby! Things have been dull around here. I only had this 2 boring people to keep me company."
"Hey!"
"Watch your mouth Call!"
Quil whistled in appreciation when he finally noticed my car, walking over to it.
"Damn… this is one sexy car."
The boys crowded around it and Jacob turned to me.
"You'll let me take a look at it sometime right?"
I grinned and shrugged.
"Maybe…"
"Ooh… those look delicious…"
Embry said as he opened the door, making a grab for a muffin and I pushed him away.
"Hey! Billy has first grabs!"
Jacob pouted.
"That's not fair Gabs"
"Life isn't fair young one."
"You're only one year older than us…"
"Exactly."
"You could always be my sugar mama babe."
"Shut up Ateara."
"Ouch. Shut down."
"You shut up Black."
We spent the day just hanging out and reminiscing old things.
Then after talking with Billy for a while, headed to the garage to see the car Jacob was building up for himself from start.
It was actually pretty impressive. He'd make a good car manufacturer or mechanic really.
Maybe he could build his shop later on in the future. He'd get quite a lot of business.
I might not be a prodigy in machines like Jacob was, but even I knew he had potential for it.
