Oliver's alarm went off at 5:30 am, signaling the start of a new day, and his first official day working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Plex. He got up, made some coffee, had some breakfast, and got dressed in his uniform before heading down to his car and heading out on the road towards the huge pizza plex. Arriving just a few minutes before 6, he had some time to himself, just relaxing with some music off the radio before having to get out and enter the building once the clock struck 6am and the security doors on the front opened up. Giving a quick greeting to the few other human workers, he clocked in at the employee lounge and tossed his stuff into a locker, making sure to bring a lock as he was told. Soon after he was grabbing a company-issued walkie talkie and headed through the back way to Parts and Services.
Upon arriving at Parts and Services, Oliver noticed a broken and dented security bot, with a note attached. Taking it off he gave it a read. 'Dear Technician, this security bot was found smashed in the backroom of Monty Golf. Do what you can to fix it. There should be spare parts in one of the side storage rooms. If the bot is irreparable, salvage what you can and inform management to pull another bot from storage. -NG' "Hmm. Wonder how it got so smashed…. Well whatever. Let's see what we can do then." With that, he grabs the bot and pushes it over inside the protective cylinder, silently thanking whoever designed them that they had wheels to maneuver on. After turning on the maintenance mode and stepping inside the cylinder, he got to work removing the dented shell and using a rubber mallet to bang the dents back as close to normal as he could.
Once he was satisfied that the dents were as smoothed as he could get them, he turned his attention to the internal components, having to pull out a busted hard drive and replace it with a spare from the side rooms. It had taken a few hours, but thankfully most of the damage was cosmetic, and aside from the broken memory the internals were otherwise fine. Once he finished mounting the drive and connecting it back up, he replaced the outer shell and booted up the bot. At first, nothing happened, and he was initially worried he did something wrong, before the bot slowly powered up with a soft whir of it's fans as it looked around in the protective cylinder. "Alright. You're all set. Try not to do… Whatever it was that got you into this state again…" The bot looked itself over before spinning in a circle and giving a thumbs up, which Oliver chuckled at. "Even without a voicebox you guys are still pretty expressive."
The bot suddenly looked up and behind him, prompting him to turn around and notice the tall alligator animatronic standing just outside the glass walls, his arms crossed and his faceplates set in a scowl, his eyes hidden behind his sunglasses. Oliver was caught off guard, not even noticing the tall gator walk in. 'Just how long was he standing there?' He didn't get a chance to think on it any longer as the security bot quickly exited the cylinder, giving Monty a wide berth as it exited parts and service. Seeing no other reason to be in there himself, he walked out and looked up at the gator, noticing just how tall he was when up close. The gator was almost a whole foot taller than him!
"Uh… Hi there. You must be Montgomery Gator, right? I'm Oliver, the new technician." he tried to greet the gator, though his only response was the gator uncrossing his arms as he towered over him. "I-is there something I could help you with?" "No. I heard we got a new tech and came to meet you. I'm not impressed." The gator finally responded. "I'm… sorry?" Oliver was rather worried, and took a step back, which the Gator snorted at, clearly finding some amusement in making him so uncomfortable. "So. I hear you worked on Roxy without putting her into maintenance mode. Is that true?" "Oh. Well uh… yeah, i did do that, but-" He was cut off by the tall animatronic leaning over him, lowering his sunglasses a bit to look him directly in the eyes.. "Good. Don't ever put me into maintenance mode, and we won't have any problems. Understand?" "That's against regulations, I could get in trouble."
Monty growled, and before Oliver could react he grabbed him by the front of his overalls and lifted him up to his faceplate, face to face with his rows of long sharp teeth. "Did my voice box glitch? I said, don't put me into maintenance mode. Get it? You're not gonna get in trouble if you keep your mouth shut and just do it." "O-okay, no maintenance mode, got it." he replied, unable to protest much when he was literally dangling almost a foot off the floor. "Good. Glad we understand each other." Monty smirked, a rather unnerving sight before he let go, Oliver falling back to the floor and stumbling back a bit as he scrambled to regain his balance. By the time he recovered and stood up straight the gator had already left, his clunky steps echoing down the hall as he headed to his greenroom elevator.
"Well… that happened… Do these animatronics hate going into maintenance mode? That's 2 out of 4 that told me so far…" as if summoned by his words, he heard the door open before clunky metallic steps once again came from the other hall. They were softer than Monty's, and it was shown to actually be Chica as she poked her head around the corner. Oliver took a deep breath to calm his nerves before turning to address her. "Hey, Chica right? Nice to meet you. I'm Oliver, the new technician. Did you need something, or did you come to tell me not to put you into maintenance mode either?" "No no, … well, yes actually, that would be wonderful! Maintenance mode is always such a weird feeling… but I actually came to meet you and introduce myself!" She said excitedly as she stepped out from around the corner. Even being one of the shortest of the 4, she was still at least a head taller than him, and he again had to look up at her as she walked up to him. "Really? Well… Judging how Montgomery reacted I suppose that makes sense… I'd probably hate it if I was you guys too. I guess it's the same deal then… I won't say a word if you don't. I really need this job and don't wanna get fired…"
This surprised Chica a bit, and she couldn't help but wrap him up in a big tight hug, lifting him off the ground a bit as she spun around, happy as can be. "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! This means so much to me!" She was giggling and cheering, holding him tight against her surprisingly soft plastic casing. Part of him figured it was to be kid safe, the other more pressing part of him was screaming for air, his arms pinned to his sides as he felt the pressure on his chest restricting his breathing. "Gnnn… C-Chica… T-too tight!" He struggled and squirmed in her grasp, but alas, she was much too strong to resist. He was glad though when she seemed to snap out of her giddyness and gently put him back down, before taking a step back, a sheepish smile on her beak. "Sorry… I got a little too excited… Hehe…"
Taking a moment to fill his lungs with very much needed air he caught his breath, and couldn't help but smile at her. "It's alright, just be careful next time. I'm much more fragile than you guys are." he chuckled as she rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment. "Right, I'll be more careful the next time I give you a hug." The two were brought out of their little moment as Oliver's phone suddenly started beeping. He pulled it out and tapped the screen, the beeping stopping immediately after. He looked up and seeing Chica's curious expression, started to elaborate. "Ah. It was just an alarm I set. It's time for my lunch break. Guess time really flies when you're repairing security bots."
"Oh! It's lunch time already? Can I join you? I could really go with a pizza." Chica said, which caused him to stop in his tracks. "Uh… Pizza? Aren't you an animatronic? Can you even eat food without it messing up your circuits?" "Of course I can eat food! It was always a part of my personality. Sure, it did mess up my circuits from time to time, but eventually I was given a tiny bio generator in my chest. Food goes in and gets turned into energy! It's not very efficient though… It's good to give me a quick boost, but not enough to substitute for a charge cycle." She explained as if such a thing was a common occurrence. "Wait… a bio generator? How does that even… You know, nevermind. I don't think I wanna know… uh, anywho, if it's safe for you and you're not busy with anything else, I don't see why not."
"Yes! Come on! I know a shortcut to the kitchens." Chica grabbed his arm and started leading (read: Dragging) him through the hallway, and through the winding employee tunnels that exist under the pizzaplex. "Woah! Slow down Chica! We're in no rush, I got an hour for lunch." She slowed down and looked embarrassed again. "Oops. Sorry… I got a little too excited, none of the other technicians ever wanted to have lunch with me. I think they thought I was too creepy or something…" She trailed off thoughtfully. "Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. For what it's worth I don't think you're creepy at all. I actually think you guys are really cool." She suddenly squealed happily and gave him another hug, though this time making sure not to squeeze too hard. "Daw, thank you! I gotta say, so far you're the best technician we've had in a long time! I really hope you get to stay around for a long time." She said as she broke away from him and started leading him again, this time at a much more manageable pace. "Well I'll try to stick around as long as I can. It's a real nice job so far." he said as he followed alongside her.
They fell into a comfortable silence as they walked down the tunnels, only broken by Chica's occasional humming before they rather quickly reached the kitchens, looking in at all the staff bots running around and making orders for the hungry customers upstairs. "Is Peperoni fine? We can just share a pizza if that's alright with you." Chica said as she waved over a staff bot to take their order. "Yeah, peperoni is fine, I'll probably just have a slice or two." He said as he watched Chica nod and relay the order to the bot who quickly got to work making their order.
"So, how old are you?" Chica asked as they were waiting, seemingly wanting to strike up conversation. "I'm 22. Graduated college last year and have been trying to find a job ever since. I was running on the last bit of my savings till I got this job. Feels like such a relief." He said as he stood there watching the bots make their pizza. "Oh wow. You're still pretty young then. Got a special someone back home?~" She asked in an almost teasing manner. Oliver was once again caught off guard and had to clear his throat. "Uh… No. Nothing like that. Just me, myself and I." "Aw. Bummer. Well, you'll find someone when the time is right, and when that time comes you'll have to come and tell me all about it~" She giggled at the slight blush that became visible on his face, though any further teasing was cut short as a staff bot rolled up to them holding a pizza box.
Eager to change the subject, Oliver thanked the bot and took the box, turning to leave the kitchen with Chica catching up beside him rather quickly, still giggling to herself at his expense. It didn't take them long to find the employee lounge, empty of any occupants as they both take the nearest table and sit down, Chica having to grab a special reinforced chair to support her bulk. Oliver watched as she tore into her slices with gusto, practically inhaling the pizza, which was a stark contrast to his more reserved and mannered chewing. After watching her finish her fourth slice around the same time he was finishing off his first, he spoke up for the first time since they sat down. "Geez Chica, I know you don't need air, but i'd still recommend slowing down. Savor the flavor and whatnot." He chuckled and had a feeling she would be blushing if she could, if the way she looked down and tried to hide her face was any indication. "Sorry… the pizza is just so good here, I can't help myself…" "Oliver moved to respond, only for the sound of the door opening and clunky metal footsteps to make them both turn to see Freddy Fazbear himself walking into the employee lounge.
"Chica! There you are. Roxy said you would be down here. Oh, and with the new technician too. Uh… Am I interrupting something?" Chica sent Oliver a smirk and went to reply. "Actually-" "No!" Oliver quickly interrupted, causing both animatronics to look at him at his sudden outburst. "Uh… what I mean is no, you're not interrupting anything. I was just on my lunch break and Chica offered to join me. I'm Oliver by the way, your new technician, though I guess you already knew that part…" Judging by the pout that Chica sent him, she wasn't happy having her fun ruined. Thankfully Freddy spoke up again before she could whine at him. "Oh! That is great to hear! Welcome to the team! Though I must say I am happy to see you both eating together. Chica has always complained that none of the human staff ever want to eat with her ever since she got that bio generator installed." "Freddy!" Chica yelled at him as Oliver started laughing. "It's alright, Chica is fun to hang around. Though she eats like a starved walrus-" "Hey!" "-I honestly don't mind it too much. My siblings were rather similar. Always scarfing down food like it's the last they'll ever get." He continued on through Chica's outburst like it didn't happen, and Freddy couldn't help but laugh at how close the two had gotten in the short time they've known each other. He could only hope he would manage to get along with the other more… temperamental duo of their band just as well.
His system suddenly pinged a reminder, and he remembered why he came down here. Turning to Chica, he briefly noted her annoyance in her pout and crossed arms, looking like she was about to yell at Oliver before he swiftly cut in. "By the way Chica, there is a birthday group up in Mazercise that is requesting you. They are going to start in 5 minutes." This broke her from her foul mood as she quickly sprang up, the chair falling down behind her. "SQUAWK! Oh no! I almost forgot! Thanks Freddy! I owe you one!" Swiftly grabbing another slice of pizza for the road she took off running past Freddy and out the door, her loud footsteps clanking as she ran down the hall until they were out of earshot. Freddy walked over to her discarded chair and picked it up, placing it back in it's rightful place before turning to Oliver once more. "I apologize about Chica, she can be really excitable and forget what she is meant to be doing." "Oh don't worry about it. I don't mind one bit. It's actually pretty fun to watch." Oliver replied as he grabbed his second slice of Pizza and closed the box, saving the last slice for later. "That is wonderful news. It is always nice to see Chica so happy. Have you met the other members of the band yet? Roxanne and Montgomery I mean." "Yeah. I've met them. You were actually the last one I needed to meet." He chuckled before continuing. "Roxanne is alright. A bit pushy, but I can feel she means well. Despite her trying to hide it I could tell she was pretty happy after I cleaned up her arm last night. As for Montgomery… He doesn't hate me… I think? He was pretty intimidating when he picked me up by my overalls… but he seemed satisfied when I agreed never to put him into maintenance mode… Guess he really doesn't like it…" Oliver mused and Freddy gasped at the news. "I'm terribly sorry to hear that Oliver, rest assured that I will have a serious talk with Montgomery about how he should act with the technicians." He couldn't help but feel a shiver down his spine at how intense the normally friendly bear sounded, and made a mental note never to get him mad. "Oh no, don't worry about it. It's all fine, really." 'Plus I think that'll just get him pissed at me for ratting him out…' he added in his mind. "Are you sure?" "Yeah, it's all water under the bridge. No harm done. Honest. I'm fine. More importantly though, all the others are pretty unanimous on not wanting me to put them into maintenance mode. What about you?" Oliver swiftly tried to change the subject and was relieved when Freddy dropped the issue.
"Oh no, I could never ask you to do that. That's against protocol. Though I understand that it may be a bit… Unpleasant, I know the rules are there for a reason. I can put up with a bit of discomfort if it means I am all ready and set to perform for the kids the next day." Freddy told him and he couldn't help but admire the big bear. "Alright, I won't push it, but just know I won't mind. I'm already doing it for the others." Freddy was about ready to protest before another ping went off in his system. "I apologize for cutting this short, but I am afraid I am needed elsewhere." "No worries! The kids come first. Go give em a day they won't soon forget." "Freddy smiled at him as he made his way to the door. "I will. And for the record, I really hope you do stay with us long term." With his piece said the large bear animatronic headed out the doors and down the hall to wherever he was needed.
Oliver chuckled as he went back to his lunch break, finishing off his second slice of pizza before his walkie talkie went off. "Can we get a technician to come up to Roxy's Raceway? One of the Driver assist bots is malfunctioning again, it's stuck on the track and causing a holdup." The voice said and Oliver sighed. "Duty calls…" Getting up he put the pizza box in the employee fridge before collecting his things and leaving the lounge, using the map to find the quickest way to the atrium. Passing by Monty entertaining a group of kids on his way to the raceway, he quietly nodded to him in greeting and he was internally relieved when all he got in return was a quick stare and a snort of steam in his direction before the gator turned his attention back to the kids. He made his way into the raceway, walking past a line of curious and slightly angry customers wondering what all the hold up was as he made his way down to the track and towards the garage in the back. Grabbing a box of tools he quickly walked onto the track, spotting the cart with the robot drive assistant in the back stuck sideways in the guardrail and blocking the track. The robot was sparking and twitching as he walked up and carefully opened the back panel, finding the shutoff switch and deactivating the robot, watching as it bent over and powered down. With that out of the way he got to work on unsticking the cart from the guardrail, though it was stuck pretty good, and the wheel was partially damaged. After a bit of pulling and some quick patch up work, he managed to yank the cart out from under the railing and got the wheel holding up enough to push back to the garage.
Just as he was about to start the long push to the garage, he heard the increasingly familiar sound of metal footsteps coming up behind him. "What's the hold up? Did you fix that useless bot already? I got races to win!" He stood up and turned around, looking up at Roxanne as she walked over to him and crossed her arms in a huff. "Oh, hey Roxanne. I haven't looked at the bot yet, but it looked pretty bad. I just got the cart unstuck though and was about to push it back to the garage so the races could continue and I can try to fix it away from the customers. Care to help me push it? The faster we can get it over there the faster the races can continue and you can go back to winning them." She let out an annoyed grunt but couldn't find any faults in his logic, so reluctantly she moved to the back of the cart to push. "Fine. But only to get these races going faster. Don't think I'm helping you just cause I want to." Oliver smiled and put one hand on the wheel to steer as he put the cart into neutral and used his other hand to start pushing. With Roxy's help he was able to quickly push it over to the garage and onto the cart lift. "Thanks for the help Roxanne. I'll get the bot back into working order as soon as I can. You can let the attendant know the track is clear and get back to racing with the kids." She turned her back to him and flicked her hair over her shoulder, though he caught a brief glimpse of a smile across her faceplates. "Don't thank me. I just wanted to get back to racing. I couldn't care if you fixed that dumb bot or not." Oliver laughed. "Well go have fun then. Don't let me stop you. I'll check in from the cameras here from time to time and watch you go while I fix this bot." "Hah. Hope you enjoy watching me win then. Cause I never lose." "So always bet on you then? Sounds like easy money." Roxanne laughed, though she soon caught herself and cleared her throat, making an attempt to look indifferent again. "Do whatever you want. I'm gonna get back to racing." She said as she started walking out, but stopped at the exit of the garage and looked back. "Y'know… You're not half bad. You're the first technician I actually want to stick around for a while… But don't get me wrong, I could still care less if you decide to leave." Without waiting for a response she leaves, and it doesn't take long for Oliver to hear the track spring back to life, carts racing down the track as he looked to the cameras and saw Roxanne racing, claiming first place time after time as he slowly worked on the bot for a few hours until he found the issue.
Seems like the rough impact jostled it's circuits and popped some parts out of place. The motherboard was cracked though, and he'd have to get a replacement from storage. After some cleaning and making sure nothing else was too damaged, he put the bot back together and booted it up. Just like the security bot earlier, it took a bit to start, but it came to life perfectly. After cleaning up his workstation and waiting for the current race to end, he hopped in and quickly drove it down the track over to the pit stop area, parking it in the line with the others and getting out just as everyone started to leave for the night. As he was about to leave the raceway he saw Roxanne standing by the entrance, saying goodbye to the kids and having some last minute photos with her fans. Waiting a minute for her to finish up he approached her as the last of the kids left and she was left alone. "Bot's good to go. Put it back in the lineup with the others." He said, causing her to turn and look at him. "Oh? You got it fixed. Good job. Glad to see you can do what they pay you for." He chuckled. "Well I'd hope so. I did go to college for it after all. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at fixing things, just like you are at racing karts. I saw some of your races between diagnostics. Part of why it took a while, I kinda got a bit into the races at times. But you really are amazing. You weren't joking when you said you didn't lose." Roxanne smiled, eagerly basking in the praise as her tail started to wag back and forth a bit. "Of course I wasn't joking. I'm the best. I don't need to lie when I got the skills to prove it. I'm undefeated on the race track." "I saw that, really gave those kids a run for their money. Maybe I'll have to race you someday and see for myself just how good you are." He replied and Roxanne laughed, feeling the competitive fire being metaphorically lit under her. "Hah! You can race me anytime, just be ready to eat my dust and don't come crying when I beat you."
"I'm a pretty good sport about games, don't worry about me, haha. But anywho, my shift is about over so I should get going. Don't wanna be locked in for the night. I'll catch you tomorrow." He said as he turned to leave. "Alright, see you tomorrow Ollie." Roxanne's casual nickname caused him to stop and turn around. "Ollie?" he questioned. "Yeah. Y'know, short for Oliver? I think it's better, so you better get used to it." "Haha. Alright, Ollie it is then. See ya later Roxanne." he turned to leave before he was again interrupted. "Roxy." "Huh?" "Call me Roxy. It's what my friends call me, so you should feel pretty special that I'm allowing you to use it." She smirked, and he smiled back at her. "Alright, See ya later Roxy." He said before finally turning and leaving the raceway, clocking out and heading home, excited for what the next day may bring.
