Chapter three
'We really need to talk.'
'We do, but let's have dinner first. I'll transfigure my glasses for now, hopefully it will be enough to keep anyone from recognising me, especially since I have blond hair.'
Once Harry showered he made his glasses look different, more modern and stylish. Once that was done, they went into London to find a restaurant. They got a table in a far corner so they could have some privacy, but Harry did cast the muffliato just to make sure no one could hear them. He also made sure he had a full view of the restaurant, including the door. After they had their meals and drinks were delivered, Ginny cast a notice-me-not spell to keep the muggle waiters away, at least for now.
They ate while they talked, but Harry didn't begin to explain what he worked out until they had finished their meal. It took Harry a while to get Ginny to calm down. She wanted to go hex Dumbledore's dead body. Harry ended up kissing her before she settled into looking furious.
'So you see, all those times I could have died, he hoped I did. Then the Dursley's treatment and Snape's bullying. It was all leading to me saying enough and just giving up, dying and joining my parent's and Sirius. I did think of suicide a few times because of the Dursley's. When I got to Hogwarts I never thought of it again until Sirius died. Between you and Luna, you helped me with losing Sirius. But now to the reason and it took me a while to work out exactly why he wanted me to die.'
'It's not good, is it?'
'No, but I'll explain that bit in the room. Let's remove these charms so I can pay the bill. We'll get some snacks and drink to take back with us.'
'Get some of that muggle beer. I have a feeling we might need a drink and anything stronger wouldn't help right now.'
Harry and Ginny got back to their room. They used the bathroom, got changed before they sat on the bed, ready for most serious talk.
'Think about how I saw your dad get attacked and how I get pain in my scar.'
'Oh no, Harry,' Ginny wrapped her arms around him, 'No, I won't let you die.'
'I'm not going to. I'm sure there is a way to get rid of it without having to die. I'm just not sure what that is, yet. If he becomes a spirit again, then he does, but hopefully we can make sure he doesn't have any supporters left. This is why I knew you would go along with my plan to take them out completely. The order followed Dumbledore and his plan that they shouldn't kill if they can help it. Hermione would instantly be against it and then she might tell someone and I could end up in Azkaban. Ron wouldn't tell but I don't think he would approve. With us, it's different and none of the others could understand like we can. You and I are both victims of Voldemort. We know what type of world we will have if he wins. We need to get rid of his death eaters completely. We can do that and research horcruxes and hope we find a solution but at least if he ends up with no supporters, then he might stay a spirit forever. No one can know about this Ginny. If people begin to die and they found out he can't die unless I have to, they would sacrifice me in a heartbeat just to get rid of him. I will never sacrifice myself for people like that, even for someone like Dumbledore since he just made too many mistakes. But I've had too many turn on me before, they wouldn't hesitate to do it again.'
'They would have to go through me first.'
Harry tightened his hold on his girl, 'I love you Ginny.'
'I love you too Harry. We're going to fix this. We have plans and one of those plans is for us to eventually get married. I've dreamt of being your wife now for a few years. Nothing is going to stand in our way.'
'No, that's why I said we might never be able to return. I'm hoping we can, eventually. If we do then we have to make sure they never work out what is behind me scar. I have a story that might make people believe I'm not one if someone suggests I am. They'll only do that if they find out about his horcruxes but Dumbledore refused to tell anyone but me so I believe were safe from others finding out. I thought of this mainly because Hermione might get suspicious and work out what my scar is. All she knows is there are dark items, nothing about horcruxes and hopefully we have the only books on horcruxes. But when she wants to learn about something, nothing stops her, so I had to make sure she wouldn't think I was one.'
'Then explain about the story you came up with.'
'It's what I noticed in the graveyard when he returned. I explained how he could touch me and the pain I felt. I told you about the pain I got in my head when I was near Quirrell. Whenever we're close or I can't close him out of my mind, I end up in pain. I went over everything that happened in the graveyard. But when Dumbledore told me what he believes the horcruxes are, something bugged me. The snake, Nagini.'
'What about it?'
'Dumbledore said it's a horcrux, that's why he has so much control over it. Ginny, the snake didn't act like it was in pain. It could be because it's a reptile and not human, I don't know. But you see, if I say I have pain but the snake didn't, who is a horcrux, then I'm not one. My pain is due to the curse that didn't kill me.'
'Okay, it sort of makes sense. We just have to hope no one knows that much about horcruxes, until we can get that out of your head. But you said you got headaches all your life. That's not going to be good if you keep having headaches. If he ends up a spirit again then you'll continue to have pain in your scar.'
'I've lived with it all my life Gin, I can handle it. But it's mainly when he's close or he's feeling really strong emotions. If it comes to it, then I thought maybe moving away might help. For years he wasn't in this country and that's when my head felt fine, so I know distance works.'
'We'll move as far away as possible if it will help. Okay, the story works and most would believe the pain is caused by the curse that didn't kill you, if they don't know anything about horcruxes. Since no one but us know about the horcruxes, I doubt anyone will find out. But we at least have a story ready if others do find out or Hermione figures it out and decide to tell someone. We'll study those books when we can. The prophecy would help you as well. Since Hermione and Ron do know about the prophecy and how it's supposed to be you to finish him, I doubt they would believe you would have to die first. That wouldn't make sense.'
'None of it makes sense Gin, but hopefully it will help so no one thinks I have to die. The prophecy says it's him or me and either of us has to die by the others hand. Then add the horcrux, I would have to die first so there's no way I would get a chance at killing him so I couldn't fulfil the prophecy. But also the prophecy would have said the dark lord would vanquish me, not neither can live while the other survives, and either has to die at the hand of the other. If the prophecy said I would die, I think my parent's would have snuck away and moved to another country, one far away.'
'They would, unless the prophecy means he will…kill you. It fulfils the prophecy and gets rid of the horcrux at the same time. That makes more sense then anything, yet the wording doesn't make sense. We're going to make sure you're not killed. But you're also right, if you had to die then the prophecy would have said it.'
'If he fulfils the prophecy then it does make sense apart from the way it's written. I won't just sacrifice myself for a bunch of backstabbing sheep.'
'Good, but since you said we'll let him become spirit again, then we should get rid of the bones from the graveyard so he can't be resurrected using bone of the father.'
'That's a great idea, Gin, and I should have thought of it. But we go further, we remove all the bones, transfigure branches or rubbish into bones. For all we know there are other members of his family, like aunts, uncles or cousins. He could work on changing the ritual to a family member not a father.'
'Alright, so we work on that as well. But back to the prophecy. You mentioned that you only told Ron and Hermione there was a prophecy, and that one of you had to kill the other. Is that all they know?'
'Yes.'
'Then we also use that so people won't turn on you. Only we knows what the prophecy said and we took the old man's memories so no one could find out. We say it predicts you will kill him. We can say you were still in shock when you told Ron and Hermione, but you went over it again with the old man during one of those lessons and it's you that will kill him.'
'Yeah, that will work and protect me. Also, when I told Ron and Hermione, it was the following morning after Dumbledore picked me up. I was angry, frustrated, but I was also feeling guilty about Sirius. I didn't really know what was going on when they woke me up. I'm positive that's all I told them, that I have to kill him, so saying I had the old man tell me again will seem believable, so I think I'm safe there.'
'I think you are, remember, I was sneaking around and listening in, especially to Ron and Hermione. Neither said anything more about the prophecy apart from the fact you have to kill him. Okay, we have some basic plans to tell everyone, if it's needed and we have those memories so no one can find out the truth. But now, since you mentioned the snake and the pain you get when you're close to him. Do you feel anything from that diadem?'
'Not pain, I just felt how dark it is. When I handled it before, I was still shocked that I almost killed Malfoy so I wasn't really thinking straight. My mind was on him and what I did. Now I wish I killed the bastard. But no, I didn't get any pain. It comes from him, not his bits of soul. And remember, I had the diary at one time, when you tried to get rid of it. I never felt anything, even when I was sucked into that memory.'
'Right, I forgot about that. But that works in our favour. If anyone finds out about the horcruxes, we explained how you handled two of them, maybe more by the time it's over. You never felt pain. The pain comes from the scar and the scar is from when you survived. Then we add the snake, how it didn't feel pain yet she was a horcrux.'
'Yeah, I doubt anyone could really believe otherwise, especially if we find a way to get rid of it, which we will, or we move.'
'We've got time and no one but us know about the horcruxes. Okay, so we stay here until you get your contact lenses, then we'll use the tent while it's warm. We try to work it so we can stay in hotels during the colder months. But nothing like this one Harry, this hotel is pretty expensive. We need to make the money last. We might have found a fair bit of money in the room of requirement but we could be hiding for a long time. I know we will steal when we have to but we don't need to stay in places like this. I wish I had some to chip in, but I don't.'
'I have enough and I still have the money that Sirius left me, but that's a high security vault so it's safe. Plus we converted galleons to muggle pounds which gave us a lot more than we thought. But you make sense. So we'll do some research on cheaper hotels, along with places like a bed and breakfast. Also, some muggle camp grounds have cabins and caravans for hire, they would be heated and be a lot cheaper than hotel rooms. I also had an idea. Gold galleons are real gold. If we can work on melting some down, we could sell the gold to muggle shops that deal in gold. We could do the same with the silver sickles. That would get us a fair bit of money.'
'That could work, we just need to get a cauldron and work on enough heat so they melt. I know it's illegal to give muggles our galleons, but nothing is said about gold or silver. Okay, we have some more plans. For now, it's late, we should get some sleep.'
'Are you sure about sharing? I can afford to get you your own room.'
'No, I want to snuggle up with you. We're alone in this Harry, I want to stay close to you.'
Harry smiled, 'So do I Gin. And I promise to behave, until you tell me otherwise.'
Ginny laughed, 'Which I doubt will be long. It's hard trying to keep my hands off you.'
'I have the same trouble. So for now, pyjamas,' Harry and Ginny both got their pyjamas, Ginny went into the bathroom to change while Harry changed in the room.
They got into bed, Ginny instantly snuggled up next to Harry who had his arm around her. This is how they wanted to be and if everything went as planned, they would always fall asleep holding each other.
