In the last 24 hours Usagi Tsukino's life has been turned upside down. There is one small silver lining though… Set after episode 1.
"USAGI!"
Usagi jerked awake.
Two large red eyes glared at her. They belonged to the black cat with a crescent moon bald spot centred on its forehead. The feline sat atop her desk and positively radiated frustration.
" Yes , Luna?" Yawned Usagi, "What is it?"
"'What is it?', Usagi you fell asleep!... Again!" Despite not being human, disapproval was somehow obvious across Luna's feline features.
"C'mon , Luna," moaned Usagi, "I'm totally exhausted from last night. You can't expect me to stay awake and study today? "
"Usagi , you slept through half of school."
"How did you kn-… I mean… N-no, I didn't…"
Luna tilted her head upwards pompously. "Oh yes you did. And I know because I've been keeping an eye on you. And from what I overheard , sleeping in class is nothing new for you anyway."
Usagi's face flushed red and she clenched her fist. "How'd you get in here anyway?" she asked through gritted teeth.
Luna was clearly unfazed by Usagi's show of aggression. "The same way I did yesterday when I gave you the transformation brooch," she nodded towards Usagi's bedroom window. "We'll have to work something out so we can stay in contact more reliably. I can't sneak into your room every time a Youma appears."
Usagi groaned at the memory of the monster that'd assaulted Naru the prior evening.
"And besides, I need to keep an eye on you to make sure you keep up with your studies too."
"What has that got to do with fighting creepy monsters?" The blonde-bun head protested.
"A Sailor Senshi needs to hone her mind along with her body. So in your case we've got double the work to do."
Usagi let out another groan whilst Luna continued indifferently.
"Something like your math homework can teach you problem solving skills you can apply to lots of things in life. So..." Luna patted the textbook with an ebony paw, " …get to it! "
Reluctantly as she could, Usagi pressed on with her homework, praying this was all one long terrible dream.
Her? A warrior of justice?
Usagi Tsukino? Duking it out with vile energy sucking monsters?
Juban's professional cry - baby? She was expected to fight evil by moonlight, and then somehow pass English by daylight?
There was just no way. It was ridiculous. Maybe someone as obviously together and focussed as Sailor V could pull that off, but not her.
She couldn't do it. She couldn't even solve this stupid math problem. She couldn't even-
Snap!
Usagi groaned again.
She couldn't even avoid breaking her pencil!
Lethargically, Usagi opened up one of her drawers for a pencil sharpener. However, her eye fixed upon a decidedly different object inside, a keepsake from the night before.
Without removing it from the drawer, she picked it up and rolled it between her thumb and index finger.
Confident and encouraging words echoed in her memory.
Well, if this was all one long dream, maybe it wasn't totally terrible…
