Night time on a Tokyo construction site. A battle with one of the Seven Great Youma. And yet Sailor Moon stands stock still gripped by uncertainty… Set during episode 28.
Sailor Moon stared across the Tokyo cityscape ignoring the dazzling evening lights.
She was standing atop a girder, part of a building still under construction. The wind was more intense at this height and the building offered no shelter from the elements.
But that wasn't why she felt numb.
It was as though time had slowed to a crawl, marked only by the hauntingly beautiful melody emanating from her gloved hand.
Luna's words from weeks ago reverberated in her mind.
"I'm not saying he is our enemy. Just that you shouldn't be so quick to presume he's an ally."
Hadn't he just proven her right?
He had kept the Rainbow Crystal. He'd warned her that he would eventually try to take the one she possessed. And when she'd asked him directly if he opposed the Senshi he hadn't exactly denied it. It wasn't even the first time he'd failed to deny that. He'd said practically the same thing to Sailor Mercury after that debacle at the masquerade ball.
But it wasn't that simple, was it?
After all… he'd saved her life again tonight. Wouldn't letting her die have made stealing the crystals easier? If nothing else, it would've meant less competition. Not to mention, if he was really after her crystal, why warn her? Why put her on her guard? And although he hadn't denied being her enemy, he hadn't outright confirmed it either.
Was this a double bluff like Luna had speculated? Maybe. That might be the case even if he wasn't part of the Dark Kingdom. Perhaps-
CRASH!
"Oh, this isn't over yet!" She exclaimed.
She sprinted along the girder, heading back to where her friends were fighting the Youma. However, she paused en route, having caught sight of something unusual. At least, unusual for a construction site.
She plucked the item from the girder it was embedded in. He and Zoisite must've been duelling even as they'd gained height within the building's skeleton. Sailor Moon found herself momentarily hypnotized by the item. Its vibrant colour stood in stark contrast to the dull and chilling greyness surrounding her.
Her thumb stroked the edge of the locket in her hand. Somehow, the gentle melody seemed to grow louder in her ears.
But not as loud as the second crash from below.
Snapped out of her trance, Sailor Moon dashed towards the battle, tucking both items away for safekeeping.
