Chapter five

'I thought everyone knew.'

'I don't know about others but I wasn't told.'

'He showed us all three unforgivables then used the imperius curse on us. I was the only one in our class, which included the Slytherin's who could fight it off. Voldemort used it against me in the graveyard, but again I fought it off. Now I have no idea if it was Crouch's idea to use it or the old man's. He said Dumbledore wanted us to know what we would be up against, but as he was a death eater he could have lied. I just don't know.'

'At least it wasn't the cruciatus curse. So how did he show you those spells?'

'He used spiders. Poor Neville, when he saw how the spider was under the cruciatus curse I thought he was going to break down.'

'I never found out how he evaded being cursed that night.'

'Neville never talks about it and I wasn't going to ask him. People ask me what I remember and I hate it when they bring it up. It reminds me why my life is so fucked up. I know they didn't want to die and I really wish I knew them, but my life hasn't been good since they died.'

'From what you found out pup, it was all Albus. He went to the Wizengamot and spoke up for Snape which got him out of Azkaban. I worked beside him in the order yet he didn't even bother to find out if I was innocent or guilty. He ignored what your parent's wanted for you and never helped me which left you with those people.'

'I think he wanted me ignorant and he wanted you out of my life. Look at what happened with the dementors. First Voldemort returns yet he tells me I have to go back to the Dursley's. I'm there and dementors turn up, sent by Umbitch and Fudge, so people like Malfoy could easily find out where I was living. When the Dursley's went out they made me stay with Figg and sometimes they sent me down to the park when they had visitors. I wasn't protected at all. But the old man wanted me there where I wasn't safe. The moment I felt those dementors, I knew I wasn't safe so I got out of there as quick as I could. He was either senile or he wanted me dead.'

'Do you really think Albus wanted you dead?'

'Yes, I do. I've had a lot of time to think about this Sirius. Hogwarts, a school yet I faced danger every year, sometimes more than once, like in first year where I could have died four different times. How can that happen at a school? If that was a muggle school it would be shut down and investigated and the headmaster would be sacked. But it was proven I wasn't safe with the muggles Sirius and it was the old man that sent me there.'

Sirius sighed but he sat beside his godson, 'I hate to believe he would want you dead, but you were in danger, more than any of us knew. This place is under the fidelius charm, it's weakened now he's gone but it's still active. You would have been safer here than anywhere. I know it's not the nicest place but it is safe.'

'With Snape being here, I wouldn't trust the protection. He could have easily given Voldemort one of those notes that Remus gave me. But it doesn't really matter now since they were all kissed. I wonder what happened to make the dementors go after them, but also others like Dumbledore?'

'I doubt we will ever know. Kingsley was informed that the dementors are back at Azkaban, he told us that when he told us about the old man.'

'Maybe Voldemort did have them on his side which is why he went after Dumbledore. But they found out he was going to betray them or something. You're right though, I doubt we will ever know. So, what is the order going to do now?'

'They had their last meeting. There is no use keeping it going when Voldemort and his death eaters are as good as dead.'

'So we won't have people just dropping in nor have people watching me while I'm here?'

Sirius grinned, 'No, I told Mad-eye that the house will be sealed again. We can finally go out and look for a house.'

'It will be good to get out of this place. But there has to be room to fly.'

Sirius laughed then began to tickle his godson until Harry was crying from laughing so much.

That night Harry snuck out and called the dementors to him. He told them he wanted Rita Skeeter and the editor of the Daily Prophet, kissed. Then they could take the souls of every prisoner in Azkaban. Harry knew that would hold the dementors for a long time, so he wouldn't need to worry about them for a while. He wanted to get settled into his new life with Sirius, then he would work on who would be dealt with next.

Sirius and Harry went out every day to look at houses. They found the perfect one. A large home in the country that had plenty of land so Harry could fly. Once Sirius paid for it, he began to enchant the place. He didn't need to go as far as the fidelius charm, but he did want some protection. He also wanted to make sure the ministry could not pick up any magic that way he could teach Harry without having to worry about someone detecting the trace. A lot of old pure-blood families used these type of wards since they always allowed their kids to practice magic at home.

There wasn't anything from Grimmauld place that Sirius wanted, so all he did was pack up his clothes. He spoke with Kreacher and offered to set him free or allow him to stay alone in the old house until he died. Kreacher wanted to remain in his old home.

Dobby went straight to the new house that he would now be working and living at. He got his few belongings from Grimmauld place, then Harry showed him the room that Sirius had worked out for him. It was one of the living rooms that Sirius had divided then showed Harry how to transfigure things into Dobby size furniture. Dobby ended up in tears and hugging Harry's legs. The other part of the room was going to have bookshelves put in there. Even though there was a room that they planned to use as a library, they had no other ideas on what to use the little room for. If they ever got another house elf, then it could be used for the elf.

One thing Harry did want now he had a real home. He asked Sirius to take him to his parent's house so they could get a few things that his parent's owned.

While they were in Godric's Hollow they did visit James and Lily's graves. Harry had sat before them and spoke to his parent's. Sirius ended up in tears listening to his godson talk to his dead parent's.

After a while, Harry grabbed Sirius's hand and pulled him down so they were both sitting at the headstone of James and Lily Potter. Sirius mumbled at first, then he just began to talk as if they could really hear him. Harry had a feeling his parent's could hear him and see him. Ever since he found out he had the gift of controlling dementors, he kept feeling that his parent's were okay with what he made them do and to who. Harry would never send dementors after anyone innocent or doesn't hurt others, he only sends them after people who would kill or hurt others or allow innocents to be hurt or killed. He really felt that his parent's would be alright with what he had done. He would like to know for sure, but he realised that would probably never happen, at least not until he died.

When the students returned to Hogwarts, many were shocked that Harry Potter wasn't there. Two people at Hogwarts, apart from McGonagall, were told why he refused to return. The two people were Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood. They explained that Harry would rather be a muggle than put up with the way Hogwarts is run. Snape and Dumbledore might be gone, but he knew things wouldn't change and he refused to put up with it how it was now. He also said he was sick of the way he was treated, just because of a rumour of someone trying to cause trouble.

Many felt ashamed that they had believed what was written in the Daily Prophet. They had been hoping to apologise to Harry. Many girls who fancied the-boy-who-lived knew now they wouldn't have a hope at catching his eye, even if he was at Hogwarts.

Sirius and Remus had begun to teach Harry. They found out that he was really good at potions. Now Snape wasn't there, Harry could concentrate and had no problem with any potion he read about. He was even able to make the wolfsbane potion for Remus. It proved that Snape wasn't trying to teach, which made Sirius and Remus curious. Was Snape trying to sabotage students from learning and if he was, who was he doing it for? If it was Voldemort, then it made sense, but if it was someone else, like Dumbledore, then it didn't make sense, so they had no idea why. But it also led to a discussion about the bad teachers in defence against the dark arts, apart from Remus. To Sirius, it was all Dumbledore. He made sure the students didn't learn potion or to defend themselves. He just didn't know why. They decided to send a letter to McGonagall so she would know just how talented Harry was in potions and it would have been known if it wasn't for Dumbledore and Snape.

Harry received a lot of letters, all apologising for what they believed. Most he just chucked in the bin, but a few were answered. He wrote to Neville and Luna first, then he replied to Susan Bones and Hannah Abbott. He explained to them how he heard how they were talked into believing he had been the heir of Slytherin and with what was written and said about him, he knew most would have believed the worst of him. Susan, Hannah, Neville and Luna never did. His old friends never did but they showed they were loyal to Dumbledore and not to him. He could never forgive them for that and he wrote that in the letters to Hermione and Ron.

In the letters he sent to Neville, Luna, Susan and Hannah he asked if they would meet him in one of the private rooms at the Three Broomsticks on the first Hogsmeade weekend. He also wrote that he would prefer no one knew he was going to be there. Harry did hope that Ron and Hermione saw Hedwig deliver letters to Neville, Luna, Susan and Hannah. It might make them realised they were wrong to listen to Dumbledore and leave Harry without support just after he had been tortured and almost killed by Voldemort. Sirius was going to be in the Three Broomsticks, but he was going to give Harry time with his friends. Sirius would mainly spend time talking to Rosmerta.
