Chapter eight
For some reason no one could figure out, Harry lead the Gryffindor's down through the castle and into the great hall. To the people in the other houses, it seemed like Harry Potter was their leader. He wasn't, the rest of the Gryffindor's just wanted to protect Harry so they stayed at his side and back. Also, the great hall looked different, there were now lots of round tables that sat twelve. They had already been told by Sirius that students could now sit anywhere, but having the house tables removed would make some feel more comfortable instead of sitting at another house.
Susan ran to Harry and wrapped her arms around him, 'I'm fine love.'
'It's just so hard to believe they would use unforgivables.'
'Yeah, I know Ron and Ginny had a temper, but they used dark magic. Also, Hermione, I never found out what she used, but it was enough that got her expelled.'
'Since she was expelled before her owls, her magic will be bound and her, along with her parent's will have their memories modified. She would have known this, so why would she go that far?'
'I don't know. It might be because she fancied Ron and Ginny had basically became her best friend. We all know people our age can do stupid things and not think of the consequences. Anyway, let's eat, I'm starved.'
Harry and Susan sat at the table with Luna, Hannah, Neville and a few other kids. There were even a few younger Slytherin girls at the table. Harry and Susan made sure to talk to them to show everyone else they had nothing against Slytherin's, only dark students.
Sirius made the announcement about how seven students had been expelled, out of those, six were also arrested by the aurors. That shocked everyone into silence.
'Now you know just how much Hogwarts is changed. No longer will assaults be left to go unpunished. But innocent children will also be protected until the staff can arrive. I got word from Minister Bones, there are also a lot of changes going on inside the ministry. Now, to get a job you have to first have the right newt scores, then take an aptitude test. Just because someone is smart, doesn't mean they are right for certain jobs. Also, every employee at the ministry will need to swear a magical oath. There will also be portraits, ghosts and house elves utilised to watch every person inside the ministry. Twenty four people were arrested last night, two died when they tried to fight. Times are changing. No longer will our world be run by pure-bloods or run by dark wizards. We are all witches and wizards; our blood does not define us and we will be treated equally. Right now, house elves are delivering two small books to each of your beds. The books are the new rules and laws for Hogwarts and the ministry. Since you have two more days before classes begin, I suggest you read them. If you wish to speak with me, your head of house or just a teacher, we will be available. Now enjoy your breakfast.'
'He's already showing he's a great headmaster,' Neville said.
'Yeah, he is. I know Sirius likes to have fun, but he's always had a side that tells everyone he can be serious. I could curse his mother for naming him Sirius, it gets confusing.'
'Yeah, it does,' Neville said.
Right after breakfast the friends ended up grabbing the book then headed outside where they could read the book while sitting in the sun.
'They've kept the traditions, like houses named after the founders, but they've made enough changes that suits everyone,' Hannah said.
'It does. It's like Greengrass and Davis. They might be pure-blood's and Slytherin's, but they never acted like they were better than anyone else. They just had to act like it around the other snakes. Now that students can mingle without having the barriers of being in different houses, people will be able to make more friends, or friends that suit them. It's like with me and Neville, we didn't really get on with Dean, Seamus or Ron because of what they like to do and act. Dean and Seamus always wanted to talk football or girls. Ron always spoke about quidditch and chess and sometimes food. I love to play quidditch but I'm not one for know who played when or how long games can go for so we really didn't have a lot in common. Now we can finally talk and spend time with others who might have more in common with us.'
'I never liked Ron, but Dean and Seamus were both raised by muggles so they spoke about things I didn't understand. They tried to tell me, but I just couldn't get it. When Harry explained more about muggle things he did it in a way to allow me to understand. Now though, we can talk and make friends with others, if we want,' Neville said.
'This also helps with Harry's situation. Because no one got to spend time with you babe, no one got to know you so they went with the rumours of the heir of Slytherin,' Susan said.
'That's how Sirius finally realised he would need to work on some changes. I was telling him if those people from other houses actually got to know me, they might not have fallen for the rumours. It was the same with the triwizard tournament. I never held anything against the Hufflepuff's, even Sprout, I get why they were all upset. But again, they went with the rumours that I entered myself. Now, people can get to know me, or anyone and find out what I'm really like.'
'Exactly. Ernie refuse to listen to us. At first Justin didn't believe it was you, Ernie talked him into it. But half your trouble Harry was Ron and Hermione. No one liked them, Ron's temper and bad manners turned people off, then Hermione and how she always believed she was right,' Hannah said.
'Also with Hermione, she was trying to make us live and behave like muggles, to do things under muggle laws. We're a different world to the muggles even if we're from the same country. We are different, so we have different laws. Some I'm glad to say are gone and others will be, but we are still different.'
'Right, it's like if a catholic person made everyone follow their religion no matter what people wanted. We are different yet Hermione refuse to see it or listen to people who grew up in this world. We only joined her spew because she wouldn't stop nagging us,' Harry sighed.
'Yeah, she never left us alone so we just gave her the money. She never once spoke with the house elves to find out if they want to be free or if they can. If she asked she would have found out that what she was doing was basically sentencing the house elves to a slow and painful death.'
'It's why I agreed to bond with Dobby and Sirius did with Winky. Dobby was happy to be free of the Malfoy's, but then I find out he would eventually die and Sirius explain that to me. Hermione never bothered to learn, she just kept trying to free them.'
'It's lucky that none of them ended up free from what she did though. Only the headmaster can free the Hogwarts house elves. She left so many clothes around the common room in the hope she would free them. It's when they refuse to clean Gryffindor tower,' Neville said.
'Poor Dobby was exhausted; she didn't care though. Anyway, let's get off them. They are gone, Hogwarts might finally be a bit more normal. At least more normal than what it's been over the last few years,' Harry said giving his girlfriend a kiss. Right now, he knew he would never tell anyone about his gift with dark creatures. He wasn't sure if that would change if he ever married. He would work that out once he was older and once he was married. For now, he was just happy that he finally had a good life, even if getting that good life meant taking the lives of others but only others that were dark and evil.
Sirius informed Harry in a private meeting that Ron and Ginny were both sentenced to twenty five years in Azkaban for using unforgivables. The only reason they weren't given life was there age. They will have restrictions on them when they leave and also have monitoring charms on them since they aren't allowed to own a wand. If they are found with wand, they will instantly do life in Azkaban. Sirius explained more about the wizarding worlds jail and dementors. Between them they did not believe Ron or Ginny would be sane by the time they were released. Sirius also informed Harry that the three Granger's had their memories modified after Hermione had her magical core blocked. Now they believed that Hermione had been in an accident years before which is why she missed the last few years of school. They used the coma excuse on the Granger's which they have used many times before.
When Harry left his godfather's office, he didn't go straight back to Gryffindor tower. He wanted some time alone to think.
'Well, I could get the dementors to take care of them, but then they wouldn't get to suffer like they deserved. Maybe I will in a few years. It would be less suspicious if I left it for a while. If I did it now, people might begin to believe I had something to do with controlling the dementors since Ron and Ginny had tried to curse me or kill me. No, it's best to wait. Hermione won't remember anything and she can't use her magic anymore so she's out of my life. I will stay friends with the twins and maybe Arthur Weasley. Molly will keep arguing that her two youngest didn't do anything wrong. No, I may see Arthur in passing, like at the ministry, but I'll never go to the Burrow again.'
Harry thought about those other students from Slytherin that had attacked Daphne Greengrass and Tracy Davis. He would have the dementors deal with them soon, maybe in a few weeks. For now, Hogwarts was a much better school so he was going to enjoy his time at the old castle.
Harry waited for the Christmas holidays before he contacted the dementors. This time he sent them after the Slytherin's that had death eater parents and were the ones that would kill if they got the chance. They already tried to kill Daphne and Tracy. Even though they were in Azkaban and they had been suffering for a few months, it was time to end them.
It wasn't until the beginning of his seventh year that Harry decided it was time to deal with the two Weasley's. He had been able to sneak away when Sirius left to return to Hogwarts, a week before Harry was due to start. The dementors were able to take Harry to Azkaban, then using his invisibility cloak, Harry watched his old friend Ron and then Ginny. He saw them suffering and knew they deserved to suffer. He also knew they were young and because of their mother and how she liked to smother them to stop them growing up, Harry felt it was time to end their suffering. He was able to unlock the cells to allow the dementors to get to their victims. Harry also had the other dementors deal with twenty of the worst muggle prisoners, from every prison. That first time meant that hundreds of prisoners ended up dead. Muggles could not survive without their souls, not like magical people could. Harry figured he would send the dementors after more muggle prisoners every couple of years. That would keep them feed and happy, but it also gets rid of some evil people. It also meant Harry could concentrate on his life.
One thing Harry did find out, it seemed he only had control over dementors. He had snuck out of Hogwarts and apparated to the cabin Remus used on the night of the full moon. Harry didn't feel anything and Remus had no idea Harry was even there. At first he planned to see if he felt anything with the vampires, but figured since there were no vampires in England, he wouldn't bother. If they turned up, he might see if he affect them like he did with the dementors. For now, the dementors were happy, which meant Harry was happy, because he could finally relax and enjoy his life.
