Chapter nine

The wizarding world was changing and it all started when dementors went after people like Cornelius Fudge, Severus Snape, the death eaters and Voldemort. The pure-bloods who always believed they were better than others soon found themselves in the minority, which meant that when some laws were brought in or laws that needed changed was up for a vote, they lost. Now all witches and wizards were treated the same, equal rights for all.

Sirius with the help of the staff made a lot of changes at Hogwarts. He started of slow, like the first year he became headmaster. By his second year he had worked it for students to stay at Hogwarts Monday through Friday, go home every weekend, then return Sunday night. Quidditch was now played on Friday afternoon. If the game didn't end by six in the evening, it was put on hold until the following Friday. That only happened once, due to really bad weather. After that, Sirius worked it that if there was severe weather, the quidditch game will be put off until the following week. Students could still elect to stay at Hogwarts on weekends, but they had to give a reason, a good reason why they could not go home. The staff thought having the weekend to themselves help them, which also help them be better teachers.

Another change Sirius and the governors made was when the first years arrived. Harry explained how if he was sorted today, he would end up in another house. Children grow a lot over those first few years at Hogwarts so by the time they were fourteen or fifteen, another house would suit them. He also explained how nervous he was but also how many of the first years look ready to pass out when they had to be sorted in front of the whole school. Also, it took Harry nearly two weeks before he could find his way around Hogwarts, because he or Ron kept getting lost. Harry suggested the first years get brought to Hogwarts a week earlier, sorted straight away then have the week to settle in and learn how to get around. Most of the staff believed bringing in the first years before the others could help them settle in better.

Over the following year, only one student was expelled. Two students were suspended. The second time the same girls got suspended, it was decided that since they missed so much school, they would repeat, which would go on their permanent record. From then on, the only punishments handed out was normal detentions or points lost. No one wanted to repeat which meant making sure they didn't get suspended.

Hogwarts became a better place and a place that students were now happy, which meant the students had a better environment where they could learn, without having the worry about bullies, or danger. The teachers were also happy which meant they smiled more which allowed students to feel more comfortable with them.

The ministry also became a better place. Due to the oaths all employees had to take, only a handful of people lost their jobs. Three ended up in Azkaban for planning the death of the minister.

Harry went on to graduate as one the top five students. He and Susan married six months later. Her aunt, who was the minister of magic, conducted the ceremony. Harry had Neville as his best man and Hannah was Susan's maid of honour.

Neville went on to become Pomona sprout's assistant. He didn't live at Hogwarts. He would go there every day, help where it was needed or go travelling to find seeds or plants that Sprout wanted. Hannah ended up an obliviator. They bought a house in Hogsmeade which helped Neville getting to Hogwarts and Hannah could floo to the ministry. They went on to have three children. One was named Harris, after Harry. Neville said it was thanks to Harry that allowed him to have the courage to approach Hannah, who ended up his wife.

Luna went on the work for her father. She met a man called Rolf Scamander who was exactly like Luna. They travelled when they could and tried to find proof that certain animals were real. They went on to have two sons who took after their parent's.

One big surprise was Sirius. He ended up dating and eventually marrying Aurora Sinistra, the astronomy teacher. After ten years of marriage, they decided it was time for a family. The now light Black family went on to have six children. The first born was a son, who was named James, after Sirius's best friend, James Potter. One of the girls was named Lily, after Lily Potter. Harry was godfather to James and Lily. Sirius did speak with Harry about the names, after he spoke with his wife. He didn't want to upset Harry in case he was planning on naming his children after his parents. Harry said he didn't want his kids to be known just because their namesakes were murdered by Voldemort. Just saying James Potter or Lily Potter would have everyone thing of Voldemort and they night he murdered the Potters. He did plan to have his parent's names as middle names. He told Sirius he was happy for him to use James and Lily for his kids.

Susan worked beside Harry as an auror for fifteen years before she knew it was time to have children. They ended up having a very rare quadruple birth. It had only ever happened twice before in the wizarding world. The four Potter girls were named after flowers to honour Lily Potter. Jasmine, Holly, Rose and Daisy had strawberry blond hair like their mother, but with Harry's piercing emerald green eyes. When the quads turned five, Susan got pregnant again, another set of quads, four boys this time. Orion, Edgar, Neville and Hathem. Orion after Sirius Orion Black. Edgar of Susan's father, Edgar John Bones. Neville after their friend, Neville Frank Longbottom. Hathem after Susan's uncle, Hathem William Bones, who had died protecting Susan when the death eater's attacked and her parents were murdered.

After the first lot of quads were born, Harry was going to leave work to help his wife with the four new babies. Susan suggested taking on more house elves, ones that were trained as nannies. With so many dark families gone, a lot of their elves were in limbo. Now the Potter household had four extra house elves to help Dobby with the ten Potter children'. He decided he would keep working, for now, but if he thought Susan was struggling even with the house elves, he would retire. Between what the Potter's had and the Bones, they had enough money to live very comfortably and still have enough to leave some for all their children. Harry and Susan said when the children were older Harry could, if he wanted to, return to work or maybe go on to do something different. Harry explained that he would like to teach when he was a bit older, but he would also prefer to do that once his children had left Hogwarts. So, Harry decided to remain as an auror for the time being. He eventually went on to be head auror.

The Potter's wasn't the only family to have more than just one or two children. Many had begun to have four or six kids. Their world had never been so safe so many thought it was time to increase their numbers. Fred went on to marry Angelina and they had four children. George married Alicia and they had a set of twins before they had another three children. Many of the people Harry and Susan went to school with ended up having four, five or six children. One couple ended up having ten children and that was Seamus Finnegan who ended up marrying Lavender Brown after he got her pregnant in their last year at Hogwarts. Seamus and Dean originally planned to return to the muggle world, but with the changes that happened at Hogwarts and through the ministry of magic, they decided to stay.

There were some people who Harry nor Susan thought would have a lot of children but they were wrong. So many of their friends ended up having large families. Again, many of them had help from house elves. One thing all of them said, they lived in a whole new world, one that was safe to raise a family, so they wanted a large family.

Over the first twenty years after the final death of Voldemort, there were more than fifteen thousand births. Since the ones left didn't believe in staying pure-bloods, not one of those kids ended up a squib. Their population doubled and in the next ten years it would double again. They wizarding world was moving on and it all started when Harry discovered he had a gift, a very rare gift of being able to speak and control dementors.

When Harry's children graduated from Hogwarts, he spoke with Sirius about teaching. He was shocked then Sirius wanted to retire but he would only hand over Hogwarts to his godson. Harry had proved to a lot of people how much he cared for Hogwarts and the students. As far as many were concerned, there was no one better than Harry Potter to take the post of headmaster.

Harry naturally spoke it over with his wife even though he really wanted that job. It would mean that Susan would have to move into Hogwarts. It didn't mean they couldn't keep their house. The staff did leave Hogwarts during the summer months and they could also go home on weekends. Since their children were all now adults and working, it was the perfect time. Susan instantly said yes, but also thought she would like to teach as well.

As Harry stared out over the students while they enjoyed the welcoming feast, he thought about how his life had changed and changed for the better. It wasn't just his life that changed, everyone's lives changed, for the better.

Harry knew he would need to keep feeding the dementors to keep them alive and happy. He never knew if one day another dark wizard would turn up. He only had to feed them every couple of years and since there were so many criminals, in the wizarding world and the muggle world, it's not like the dementors would ever starve.

Harry couldn't stop smiling at all the contented or happy faces. Even the staff were smiling. It was a better world for everyone.

The end:
