Chapter 4: To King's Landing
Naruto was in the workshop working on a project that had been on his mind for months. Having lived in Dorne for the last seven months, he had gotten pretty used to the style of the people, the customs and their preferences to weapons. Doran was very receptive of the repeater crossbows; not fully but he did like the concepts and now his entire archery commandments used them as well as the standard bow and arrow.
Oberyn was always coming by asking for a spar or even his daughters for that matter-though Obara was always seemingly trying to flirt with him and he of course didn't seem to grasp her desire to get him into her bed half the time. The times he did, he always called her the same thing he called her father; Ero-Hebi no Baka. However, she had only grown more persistent whenever he called her out on her wants for him.
As for the dragon eggs he had stashed underneath the shop in their little cache, the eggs had never truly responded to his attempts to free them from their prisons. He could feel the growing pools of energy as he channeled his various forms of chakra into them, but other than that he hadn't made any progress in hatching them; the singular cracks upon each egg was all he ever received as a response. He could feel the desire the dragons had wanting to hatch, but even he did not know what he was missing when it came to releasing them.
Another discovery Naruto had made was on how to create Valyrian steel itself. He had destroyed one of the abyssal creature gauntlets to find the secret when he was trying to reshape it and he found the glass-like core imbued into the center of the folds (under a self-made microscope), but he managed. It turns out that the 'glass-like core' required to make the legendary steel was in fact Dragonglass as the people called it. He had tried various forms of glasses and stones and rocks to make the core and all of them failed until he had used the black rock formation people called Dragonglass. Of course he knew it was obsidian and it was a rock born from volcanic eruptions, but who cared, he could make his own Valyrian steel weapons if he chose to now.
He of course kept this knowledge to himself -cuz if you think about it, that is one hell of a discovery- and he figured he would share it with Oberyn when he revealed what he found. The armor that came with the gauntlet had long since been reforged to something for himself and he had even managed to create the full armor once more with the large quantities of scrap metals from the Freehold. It was currently hidden in a storage room that he alone could access as well, seeing as it was where he hid the dragon eggs and several of his Kiri Blades.
No need for someone to gain access to a executioner blade that was seemingly indestructible or a ax that could pierce anything when struck by a hammer, or even a blade that detonated like a jar of wildfire when swung; he had learned that when someone had stolen it from him and he had to track the blade down and kill the man who called himself a god of destruction. Pfft, as if, he didn't even last a second against the Kubikiribocho when he hurled it at the man.
As for his sales, he was actually considered one of the best in Dorne and he received praise for his craftsmanship despite his young age. He had created a weaker version of Valyrian steel by fusing strong and weaker steels together and channeling his chakra into the metal during the forging process to strengthen the metals within, some of his products even exhibited 'magical' abilities such as when Ellania asked for him to give her a shortsword for her youngest daughters nameday. The sword itself was a standard sword, but strangely enough it could channel lightning without the need for magic or chakra-which in his mind was amazing for a regular sword- being used by the wielder. It was a simple check on the blade when it was revealed and he found what had happened.
Hammering away at a slab of steel that was slowly taking shape, he stopped as someone called out to him. Looking up he smiled when he saw Oberyn walk into the shop, "Afternoon, Oberyn, what can I get for you?" he asked, having managed to grow accustomed to simply calling him by his full name rather than 'Oby-san' like when he had first arrived. Was it strange not to use an honorific when he spoke to someone, yes, did he really care-not really. As long as he was left to himself to work on customer commissions and purchases he was perfectly fine. He could train as much as he wanted to (when he could slip away to the further locations where nobody could see him) and he could make anything he wanted and get paid for it.
He had also made his own blacksmith equipment that he was familiar with-some of the seals had quite literally blown up on him but trial and error helped remedy those design flaws-and now had power tools that ran off seals with no faults or problems.
Oberyn smiled as he entered the shop, "Naruto, my boy, how have you been?" he responded as he walked up to the now eighteen year old adult.
Naruto shrugged as he placed the block of metal into the fire, "I've been good since you visited me, yesterday." he pointed out before snickering, "But truthfully it's gotten stagnant these last couple days, not as many customers coming by for blades & bows like when they first came off the line." he admitted, "But business is still good." he put out to the older man.
Oberyn nodded, "Yeah, some smiths experience a small lull in their business but usually manage to pick up when people need something repaired or made." he said leaning against the wall, "Listen, Naruto, my elder brother Doran wishes to speak with you. Now that he has started recovering from his gout and he is able to move around he has been thinking about going to this tournament held in honor of the King's new Hand, Ned Stark. Not that big a deal mind you since the old Hand to the king was rather elderly so it wasn't all that surprising to hear he died. Not to speak ill of the king himself but, he is not a good ruler let me tell you. He does nothing but drink, hunt and sleep around despite having one of the most beautiful women as a wife-not that I'm any better mind you." he laughed.
Naruto shrugged as he formed a clone to look after the shop, "I don't see why not, I mean I'm pretty much free for the moment since nobody has come by so let's go." Naruto said as he walked out of the shop and locked it, though the clone could still hear and open the door but as it was so late it wouldn't hurt to close a couple hours early anyways.
Oberyn looked at Naruto, "So, any news on your end from that journal?" he asked, knowing the teen still had it in his possession.
Naruto nodded, "Yes actually." he said, surprising the Dornish Prince. Might as well tell him, "I'll tell you more when it's just the two of us and the two of us alone, no need for people to overhear what I have found." he said normally, "But, I doubt that anyone would understand what I'd say even if I revealed what i did discover." he stated.
Oberyn nodded, "Yes, anyone could be a spy for an enemy, can't have such secrets being revealed and they have the means to create those steels you make so easily." Oberyn nodded in agreement.
Since having been given the blacksmith shop, Naruto had applied hundreds of various seals to the building. He had expanded the inner portions of the shop by nearly triple its original size through spatial distortion based seals and had applied cleaning seals to the wall, floor and ceiling with the main activator being at the doorway and by the forge itself. A little bit of chakra and all dirt, dust, grime, soot and slag was removed without a thought. He had -in the middle of the night- placed durability seals across the entirety of the building where each seal worked off a corresponding seal that absorbed low amounts of Senjutsu Chakra, not that the shop could be burned down anyways as he also placed seals that absorbed damaged and dispersed it into air around the building. Essentially, his shop was damn near unbreakable.
Walking into the palace, Naruto was led into the throne room of the castle where he saw Lord Doran, his sun Trystan and Oberyn's lover Ellaria as well as the three eldest Sand Snakes; Obara Sand, Tyene Sand, and Myrcella Sand waiting in the throne room. Naruto comes to a stop, ready to call upon the summoning seal for Kubikiribocho if need be. Doran can be seen standing with his hands on his hips as he gazes at his throne while his son drinks some wine from a cup in hand. Naruto is brought out of his musings when Doran turns around and gazes at the blond teenager, "Ah, Naruto, glad to see you made it. I assume all your wares are complete for the time being?" he asked the young adult.
Naruto nodded, "For now yea, but can I ask why all of you are here Prince Doran?" he asked with a steeled look.
Doran nodded his head, "You may, and as for my response, I'll simply get straight to the point. No doubt my brother has informed you of the tournament being held at the Red Keep in King's Landing to honor Ned Stark becoming the New Hand of the King-not that prestigious a title but an honor nonetheless, and a large number of knights and Lords are expected to be there. Naturally I was invited and I have decided to accept. Oberyn and his Paramour and three eldest will accompany me, my son as well as Arianne while my advisors will stay behind to continue ruling for the time until we all return. Now, as for why I asked for you, it is simple. I wish for you to enter the tournament and kill a certain someone for us." he said, causing Naruto to shake his head in confusion.
"I'm sorry, but what? I can understand you going to some guy's promotion celebration and all, but to bring me along to simply kill someone you don't like doesn't make much sense to me." the blond stated.
"It does actually when I tell you that there is only one person that all of Dorne wishes to perish, and not in a subtle way either." Doran stated as he continued to look at the blond, "Gregor Clegan whom many call The Mountain or his more normal title The Mountain that Rides, has slighted Dorne in the name of Tywin Lannister with nobody to stop his rampages and his killing sprees when he acts out. Usually when people call for his head, Robert sweeps his actions under the rug by typically bribing the offended parties and Tywin pays him for allowing it. No more will this happen to the people of Westeros. With your magical abilities and your strength, I want you to bring Gregor Clegane to his knees, and kill him in front of everyone who attends the melee portion of the tournament, then I want you to finish by winning the Tournament. After that, you may do whatever it is you wish to do at your own leisure. I will provide any necessities such as a small amount of gold and a ship if you wish to sail around or a supply of gold and a horse if you wish to travel the continent." he finished, "So, will you avenge a innocent woman and her two children for her family and her people?" he asked.
Naruto stayed silent for a moment before motioning for the group to follow, "All of you, come with me to my shop. There's something I wish to show you." he said.
XxX
Walking into the shop Ellaria and her daughters did a double take due to the size of the interior. Doran himself felt confused by the sizing proportions and the kids were just as lost. When asked about this as they entered, Naruto was glad to explain that he used his abilities to simply take a piece of space and use it to enhance the size of the room to make it bigger. However, as he continued to walk down the stairs to the bedroom-and subsequently his hidden room-they were only more shocked when he closed the door and activated the privacy seals to block out any noise from escaping, "Good, now we can talk without anyone spying on us." he said sitting on his bed.
Sighing deeply he laid on his bed and looked at the group, "Look, sir, I honestly don't know much about fighting with a sword like your people do, I'm a fighter yes, but I specialize in major techniques that can destroy a stone wall with ease and crushing a person with a single punch. I can use a sword yes, but despite this, I need more information to work with. Give me all the details I need to kill Gregor Clegane and I'll do it without hesitation, but I need more than a simple kill order. I mean I know you were wronged, all of you, but sometimes revenge isn't the answer." Naruto said.
"And yet you would allow him to go about raping and killing as hepleases only to be let off his crimes with what amounts to a slap to the writst? I thought you were better than that Naruto." Oberyn scowled.
Naruto shook his head, "No no no you don't understand. If I kill Gregor Clegane, then obviously there will be people who will want me dead, and as it stands I'm an unknown party. Wh-" Naruto started to say only for Ellaria to speak up, "Which is why you are perfect for this request. As a unknown, nobody will think twice as to who taught you your skills and techniques, they will ask the question of how they can get you onto their side, and when it comes to be revealed that you live in Dorne, many will come here looking for you to either teach them, or become loyal to them. Either way, the final choice is up to you and anyone who attacks you can be dealt with however you see fit to deal with them. Remember, Dorne isn't like the other kingdoms as we have different laws." she explained.
Naruto thought deeply for the next few minutes before he stood up and walked to the wall, "I've been meaning to reveal this to Oberyn for the last couple days, but I guess now is the best time to do so seeing as you are setting me up for a mission." he said walking over to a wall and placing his hand against a seal only he could locate.
Pulsating his chakra in a specific pattern the wall shimmered before vanishing to reveal his Kiri swords and several weapons made of a familiar metal along with the single suit of armor and a chest lying open on the floor before the feet of the armor.
Stepping out of the way Naruto grabbed a book he had been holding onto and waited for them to begin asking their questions.
They came like an avalanche.
"Is this what I think it is?"
"Are those dragon eggs?!"
"So many Valyrian steel swords, did you make these?"
"A full suit of armor made of Valyrian Steel, how did you do it?"
When they all calmed down he snickered slightly, "To answer your questions, yes it is a cache of Valyrian steel weapons. Yes, those are in fact Dragon eggs. I did make all these weapons. The armor was reforged and molded to its current design from the suit of armor left behind by a Valyrian Beast me and Oberyn encountered and defeated. But, these are from your world. My weapons are hidden in a different location in this room so they aren't stolen."
"So when you said you didn't know how Valyrian Steel was made, you lied to me?" Oberyn asked with a slight scowl.
Naruto shook his head, "No, I discovered how to make it around a week ago when you stopped by with the various rocks and sedimentary stones. I discovered through trial and error that the secret to making true Valyrian steel was in fact by mixing Steel and Corrodium metal with Dragonglass or what you would call obsidian which is a volcanic rock made from hardened lava from a volcano. After that, it was mainly getting the proper mix of the two metals and Dragonglass right before the results revealed themselves to me. I don't know if Oberyn revealed this to you guys or not Prince Doran, but while we were in Valyria we came across a large chamber that was designed to be a blacksmiths workshop, that's where we discovered a large quantity of the metal and several incomplete rods of it as well as a journal. I decided to keep the journal so I could figure out the process of making the metal when he explained just how valuable it was. However, when he left to look around for other things that would be of use, one of my clones found a hidden wall. The only reason it knew it was a hidden wall was because it didn't resemble the other walls around. After moving the wall out of the way, what the clone revealed to me through its memories was a vault." Naruto stated.
"I'm assuming this wasn't an ordinary vault, cuz this is the first I'm hearing of it." Oberyn said.
"I'm being honest with you simply because you were honest with me Oberyn, and I would like to finish explaining before answering anything else." Naruto said with a steeled gaze his brother silently approved of, "Anyways, yes this wasn't an ordinary vault. See, this vault was a vault that was filled with the eggs of dragons. There were hundreds of them sitting along the walls from floor to ceiling. All of them were destroyed, all except these three which you see before you." he said softly.
"But how do you know they are alive?" Obara asked. From what she was seeing, these dragon eggs seemed to have turned to stone from the ages of time.
Naruto chuckled as he grabbed the crimson egg and lifted it up, "I never did explain a vast majority of my abilities, but one of them allows me to tap into the power of the planet itself. By absorbing the energy from the world around me I gain a multitude of enhancements." he said genuinely as he channeled a miniscule amount of Senjutsu chakra into the egg causing it to glow briefly before he returned it to its resting place, "I was able to tell these little guys were alive cuz one of the enhancements allowed me to sense the life force the eggs contained, each of them were alive and healthy. Since then, I've been trying to hatch them and raise them, but not much luck on that last part. There seems to be some type of block preventing them from hatching, the pools of energy they can draw on is already incredible seeing as they are absorbing the energy I transfer into the shell to try and hatch them, but other than that, they are unresponsive to my attempts." he sighed out.
Doran and Oberyn share a look and silently nod at the same time-that conversation could be held at a later date. Doran cleared his throat, "Naruto, I thank you for revealing this to us, cuz now, your job just became a lot easier for you to do." he said to the young man.
"Huh?" the blond asked.
"Oberyn did reveal that weapons made from this metal are almost unbreakable, yes, never dulling and all that right? Well, it stands to reason that a suit of armor made from it is just as durable if not more so than a blade. And you have multiple blades and a full suit. If you go out and show off the suit and blades, you'll be known throughout the whole world for such things. I mean, I like the fact it's a full suit of armor and it's so well crafted, and to think I never knew you could make one piece let alone a whole suit and so many blades." Doran said with more and more plans coming together in his mind, all of them involving the blond whom his brother had brought back from a strange adventure.
The mere fact he revealed he had not only discovered the ancient secret to form Valyrian Steel itself, but had located THREE live dragons yet to be hatched, it was a goldmine of opportunity, and he would seize each second he could.
Naruto nodded, "Well, the suit itself is finished being constructed, though I'm not ready to reveal it to the world just yet. I still have dozens of seals to inscribe on the metal and then there is the fact that I need to test the seals functionality and by the time I finish it, it'll be a couple months and by that time the tournament will be over. The blades themselves are all done, seals and all as they are easier since I don't have to spread the inscriptions over a wide area, but I think I have an idea on what I can do to substitute the armor with." Naruto responded.
Weeks Later, King's Landing
Naruto yawned as he walked through the gates of the capital of Westeros for the last four centuries. If he were being honest, it wasn't as impressive as the Dornish Lord and his family made it out to be. It smelled terrible and he could feel the corruption without even having to tap into his abilities.
He just hoped Oberyn and the others were faring better than he was, cuz if so he wanted the secret as to how they managed.
Meanwhile-
Walking through the streets of Flea Bottom one could see countless banners on full mast all around the city. From the pierced sun of the House Martell to the white falcon of the House Arryn, emblems fluttered in the wind as Knights of almost all Great Houses rode into the city en masse. The neighs of horses were almost as loud as the merchants in the middle of the market, and the gleaming shine of the suits of armor in sight was almost too bright to bear. Rubies, sapphire, emerald, red gold and diamond filled the market as a line of knights marched to the tourney arena.
Riding his horse down the cobblestone path Tywin Lannister was feeling a bit… surprised for lack of better word from what he was seeing. "So the Martells actually came," muttered Tywin as he crossed his arms. "I don't think I've seen them this close to King's Landing since the start of King Robert's reign." he stated as he looked to his eldest son, who should have never joined the Kingsguard and rather inherited the Legacy he had built up for him.
Jaime nodded with an apathetic nod. "Well. They really aren't admirers of our good Ser Gregor Clegane, and seeing how both him and the Hound are in this tourney, it only makes sense that they would come and try to take his honor."
"Can you blame them?" Tywin asked with a hint of mockery. "That giant of a man raped and killed their princess; if it was us and Cersei suffered that fate, you would have killed the Mountain before he could take one last shit."
Jaime snorted, "I'd have killed his entire house if he harmed a single hair on her head." he stated for his secret lover.
"Well, I was honestly not expecting them to show despite the raven that I received from Prince Doran what with his gout hindering his movements and such, but I guess I stand wrong." Tywin admitted.
Jaime looked to his father, "Really, what exactly did Prince Doran wish to speak with you about? I highly doubt he sent a letter to speak of your health, much less his respect for you after what happened to his dear sister." he said.
Tywin nodded his head, "True, but it wasn't about what he wanted, but something of ours that we have long since lost. He didn't go into full detail, but he requested that you, your sister, your brother and the king meet in the throne room to discuss returning something that belonged to us. To be frank, I have no idea what he was drinking and I do not know what he is talking about, but as a fellow lord I will respect his request to meet up with us. I expect there to be no fighting between any of you Jaime, so help me if you do, you will regret it."he told his son.
Red Keep; Throne Room
Doran, Oberyn, Ellaria, Tyene, Obara, Nymeria, and Naruto stood silently in the throne room waiting for Tywin and his family to arrive. Robert, Cersei, Joffrey, Tommen, and Myrcella were all gathered and awaited for Jaime, Tywin and Tryion's arrival into the throne room to meet up with them.
As they waited, Robert and Cersei were having a conversation only they could hear as they stood a distance away-Naruto's chakra hearing be damned as they were at the far side and he heard muffled speech patterns which annoyed him to no end as his chakra usually enhanced his abilities quite a bit. Cersei whispered harshly, "Look at him Robert, he is your spitting image with my golden hair, how could he not be a Lannister? One that doesn't hate the Dornish where they like him just as much, it makes no sense." she said.
Robert raised a brow, "You think he is ours, our firstborn?" he asked, "Cersei my love, he died that night in the storm, we know this, the Maester confirmed it to us both." he said to her.
Cersei shook her head and looked briefly at Naruto, "I know, I know, but-but I just can't help but feel as if he belongs here- with us." she said hopefully. He had her golden hair, and Roberts sky blue eyes as well as his skin tone from when he was younger, it was a perfect mix of the both of them in one body damn near.
"Well, let us ask him specific questions, and if he admits he has parents, we know he is not our boy, if not we can do a little bit more digging and see what we can find, deal?" he asked and got a nod, "Good, we'll speak to him once this exchange between the Dornish and your old man is finished, does that work for you?" he asked and got another nod.
With their discussion done Robert and Cersei returned to their respective positions and sat back down. They were about to ask what they wished to return to the Lannister House when the door to the room burst open and Tywin, Tyrion and Jaime Lannister all walked in with an air of authority befitting the House Lannister, "Good, about damn time you made it. Was wondering if you got lost at a whorehouse or something." Robert huffed.
Tyrion smirked and cleared his throat,"Not quite, Your Grace, though admittedly I was about to enter such an establishment when my father and brother came to fetch me for this meeting, though I have no clue as to why they would request me to be here." he admitted.
"That's because it was I who asked for you to be here, as this was something I felt you all needed." Doran spoke up, "It's been a long time, Tywin." he said with a slight glare at the elder man.
"Prince Doran, a pleasure to see you up and about, how are you these past few moons, what with your gout and all?" he asked.
"My gout problem has been under fixation, my feet are slowly healing, thank you for asking." he said before looking to Naruto and pushing him to the front, "This here, is Naruto Uzumaki, he was the one to find what belonged to you before coming to reside in Dorne under my brothers behest." he said drawing their attention to the teen.
"You must be joking, this child has something of ours?" Jaime snorted.
"He looks like a Lannister with Baratheon eyes." Tywin noted, "Who are your parents boy?" he questioned. He had heard his firstborn grandchild had been a boy with golden hair like his mothers and Baratheon blue eyes like his fathers. However that was where the good news ended as it was said that the child was a stillborn.
Naruto shrugged. His parents didn't mean anything to these people so why share something they'd never care for, "Don't really know. I was told I was born to a man and woman, and that was it. My knowledge of who my family is, I have nothing. Sorry my Lord." he said bowing to the elder before removing the scroll off his back, "I would request that each of you takes a couple steps back and not freak out by what I am about to do as what you are about to see is, not exactly normal by your standards." he requested as the Dornish took three steps back while the Lannisters only took single steps away, "Unseal." he intoned as he unrolled the scroll that contained Gerion Lannister and Brightroar within.
Despite seeing a cloud of smoke appear from nowhere, the large group managed to remain calm for the most part, though the small jumps they gave did show their shock.
However, that was where it ended.
"Lord Tywin, Lord Jaime, Lord Tyrion, Lady Cersei, I present to you your long lost family member Gerion Lannister and your family's Valyrian Steel blade, Brightroar." he said calmly as he stepped back from the corpse and blade.
Tywin inhaled deeply, a small quiver of his lips showed his emotion before he cleared his throat to harden himself from breaking down before the group, "I see, you were at Valyria at some recent point and you found him and the sword. I thank you." he said nodding his head, "However, I don't think you are doing this from the kindness in your heart are you?" he asked.
"Father, he returns your long lost brother, our uncle, as well as the long lost Lannister Blade Brightroar and this is how you thank him?" Tyrion demanded.
"It is not that I am ungrateful, but even you should know that by returning two important items, one being a member of the family and the other our family's Valyrian Steel sword, is not going to be something he does for free, so, what is your price?" he demanded once more.
Naruto shook his head, "My price was nothing to be honest Lord Tywin, but, I can do one thing to help alleviate your stress for the time being as this must be hard for you. However, when I finish, you must hear out Lord Doran and Lord Oberyn for it is them you must thank." he said to the man.
"Very well, do as you wish." Tywin grunted.
Naruto nodded his head, "As you command my Lord." he said closing his eyes as he held up his right hand and curled in all his fingers except his pointer and middle fingers and brought them up to his face before repeating the same motion with his left hand except this time he pointed it at the body.
-Play: Michael Jackson; Man in the Mirror-
Wishing to inquire as to what he was doing, Tyrion wanted to speak, only to stop when he noticed fluttering lights beginning to fill the air around him. He gasped in surprise as he turned around to see hundreds if not thousands of glowing particles of light floating around him. Moving his head up, he saw the golden particles beginning to swirl around and tugged at his fathers shirt and pointed up when he saw where his impaired child was looking.
This caused the rest of the group to follow the dwarfs gaze and they were astounded to see what appeared to be memories from Gerion himself playing out in the fire-fly like particles of dust. It showed a young child-one Tywin immediately recognized as his younger brother Kevin-and Gerion wrestling on the snow before a third lad jumped in and joyous grins appeared on their faces.
The lights whirled once again to see Gerion hefting a young girl they recognized as Cersei up into the air before catching her and ruffling her hair causing her to laugh happily at her uncle.
This caused the Queen to gasp as the memory came to the front of her mind.
The next was the young man shooting some arrows at a target before seeming to boast his skills as two more lad looked to each other before jumping the young man ensuing another bout of wrestling between them.
Now older and standing on a dock, two brothers embraced in farewell before he boarded the ship and sailed away with glad waves from the rear of the ship.
The final shifting of the dust-like particles showed the old man lying on the ground as the boy they knew as Naruto held the old man by the hand as he started to die once more while clutching Brightroar into the old man's grasp and nodding to his final words.
With that the dust began to swirl around at an incredibly fast rate before coming together to form a ball of golden light before it exploded outwards and showered the room in golden particles of dust that floated to the floor before vanishing.
Naruto cleared his throat, "I know it isn't exactly what you wished for my lord, but I figured that by showing some of his happiest memories was the best I could do to honor his final wish aside from returning him to you. I know his body looks clean and all, but I cleaned him up from the dirt and grime and cut his hair to present him to you as only a proud member of House Lannister should be presented. I don't think I could do more than this." Naruto said softly.
Tywin shook his head, "No, that was more than enough. I am just glad he had some treasured memories before he died, and I am more than grateful to you for returning both him and Brightroar to my custody." he stated calmly, "I will have some of my men return him to Lannisport for a proper burial while I attend the Hand tournament." he said before looking to Doran and his family, "I can already assume that you wish for me to allow you to kill the Mountain, despite him being one of my best knights?" he asked.
Doran shook his head before motioning to Naruto, "Not exactly Lord Tywin, we wish for young Naruto here to kill him. Not because The Mountain has wronged him, but because he is the only capable of doing so." he said.
"Well, I would assume so, seeing his… magical prowess to peer into the memories of the long departed." he said warily before nodding, "Very well, for the return of my brother and Brightroar, consider this a IOU, you kill Gregor as one portion and you can claim the other at a later date for the return of Brightroar. Two items, two requests, one of which I will grant at the tourney." he stated honestly, "Gregor robbed you of your family, and it is only right that blood be paid back in blood for the wrongdoings I allowed to happen during the rebellion." he nodded curtly to the group of Dornishmen.
Doran nodded his head, "Thank you, I shall see you at the tournament Lord Tywin." he said before him and the group of Dornishmen left leaving Naruto behind to gather his scroll before he started to leave without saying a word said either.
Tournament Grounds
The tournament arena had three large sections, with a large pavilion built to overlook all three. At the center of the pavilion was a heightened area with a large canopy providing shade from the scorching sunlight for the spectators below. The King himself sat at the center of the heightened area with the Queen, Cersei Lannister, sitting to his right, looking beautiful and regal in her red gown. The young prince Joffery Baratheon sat one row down from his parents, and his siblings, young Prince Tommen and Princess Myrcella Baratheon sitting across from him. Many other powerful people sat close to the royal family, including the Queen's Father, Tywin Lannister. The other lords were all sitting along the pavilion, looking over the tourney arena and the gigantic crowd of spectators on the other side.
Petyr Baliesh, the Master of Coin, estimated that the city would gain from the increased expenditure, if the prize gold to the winners were not as high. In the previous days, every inn in King's Landing, high-end to dirt poor, had been filled and more people were filing in. The merchants had more coins in their pockets than they could carry and the entire city was in a state of festival. But there had also been a few drunken fights, stabbings and rogue horse races down the Street of Sisters; needless to say, the City Watch had been very busy.
"Lord Baliesh, I heard you are an occasional gambling name?" asked Tyrion with a smirk on his face and a drink in his hand. "Care to wager on the winner of the joust?"
The man with short black hair smirked and nodded. "You've heard correctly, Lord Tyrion." Littlefinger stood from his seat and moved closer to the dwarf, who was sitting far away from his family, "How about one hundred gold dragons as the wager?"
Tyrion finished his drink and held it out to a servant to fill his cup. "That sounds good, and I'll place that amount on my brother, Jaime Lannister as the winner."
Petyr smiled and nodded. "Very well, I will place my money on Gregor Clegane; the Mountain is someone I believe to be able to dismount your brother."
"Can anyone place their bet with you two?" asked a new voice from their right. Prince Oberyn of Dorne walked up to the two with his usual witty smile. Tyrion immediately felt his smile leave his face as he made eye-contact with the known sexually-ambivalent man. Oberyn had a look of clear contempt in his eyes when looking at Lannisters-despite having gotten his desire in allowing Naruto to kill the man that murdered his sister-and the smirk on his face did not make Tyrion any more comfortable.
"Of course, Prince Oberyn, the more the merrier," Littlefinger said, gesturing to a young servant and having him jot down the bets. "Lord Tyrion and I have respectively placed bets on Ser Jaime Lannister and Ser Gregor Clegane. Would you like to stack either of our wagers or would you prefer another knight?"
The prince smirked and sat down next to Petyr. "I want both of those to lose, Lord Barriston would have been an obvious choice but, i think I'm going to wager on someone else this time around." he said before pointing to the young man who had secured his family's revenge, "That one, that young man with the multitude of blades on his person." he said.
Nodding his head, Tyrion smiled rather forcefully and sat back against his seat. "I certainly wish you the best of luck."
The prince smirked, "As do I."
"Alright!" cried the King as he raised his cup high. "Let's get this tourney started!"
Tyrion chuckled and leaned ahead. "I believe the first event is the Archery Competition." He shook his head and rested back against his seat and sipped on his wine. "Well, I didn't bet on this so I'm not even going to bother."
XxX
Naruto stepped out of the large crowd and followed the rest of the contestants into the preparation line leading up to the archery field. Like the others around him, he had a small wooden badge strapped to his upper arm, signifying his role as a participant. Around him and the other contestants were hundreds of spectators, trying to get a good view into the competition, even children who were sitting on their fathers' shoulders.
The archery area was one of the larger sections in the tourney, second to only the melee area. It was a large grass field with many targets installed at various distances from the archer line. The first row of targets was only several meters in front of the archers. Fifteen archers lined up at once and tried for their shot at the target, and the one best result would remain for the second round with further targets. There were quite a few people in the competition, so even fourteen people eliminated at each draw, the event well on for quite some time.
After watching as the first lineup of shooters had their round, the next lineup came up. When the next line of archers lined up, Obara and Tyene clearly saw someone that was much younger than the rest and had a head of golden blond hair. He held his bow and pulled an arrow from his quiver, preparing to let loose on his target at the call of the judge.
(A/N: Naruto's bow is the Dwarven Black Bow of Fate)
stood on an elevated plank of wood that supported the weight of fifteen archers; it was the second round of the competition. From what the judges had told them, there will be five rounds, each round a number of contestants will be eliminated, and in the fifth round there will only be two archers left. With each round the targets will be placed further and further away, until the last round when the targets will be all the way on the other side of the field.
Looking to his sides, Naruto noticed that he was the only person in his age group present; most others were at least ten years older than him. Some people were looking at him with strange glances, no doubt wondering how a kid fresh off his mother's teats made it into the second round; Naruto only chuckled at their ignorance – being older does not necessarily make one a better archer – the blond pride himself for being a marksman at ten.
Thank you Tenten.
"Alright you lot, draw your arrows!"
All fifteen men drew the arrows back and aligned their eyes with the center of the target, several meters further than the first target.
"And release!"
Naruto's fingers confidently released his hold, and his arrow shot out, piercing the air with a small glint on the iron tip. His eyes followed it, the few seconds that it took to travel to the target, and remained locked onto it when it struck the target. It was just as he expected of himself. The arrowhead was supplanted right in the center of the target, earning him a perfect score.
With a smile and a knowing expression, Naruto nodded at the other archers and walked over to the winners waiting area again, waiting for round three. Now more people were giving him strange looks, some of them even looked shocked. It confused Naruto; hitting a target at such a distance was extremely easy, so he didn't understand why so many people were surprised he did it and why so many others couldn't do it.
'I guess my days of training behind the shop have some boons.'
Time went on as steady as it always had, and Naruto passed round after round. Never once had his arrows hit any place but the dead center of the target, and he was attracting the attention of almost everyone watching. The eighteen year old continued to outmatch men twice his age with actual experience with a bow and arrow. But regardless of the other's outcome, Naruto kept emerging victorious in the matches. Some random man might also hit the dead center of the target, but when they were examined, Naruto's was either closer to the center or shot deeper into the target. Some people were starting to place last minute bets on him winning, and he could swear he heard people asking for his name in the crowd.
Then, in no time at all, it was the final round. The only two men left were Naruto of Dorne and Lothor Brune, a freerider from the Stormlands.
"Did that child really make it to the final round?" asked Ser Jaime Lannister as he stood next to his fellow Kingsguard, Ser Barristan as they awaited the start of the jousting competition. "He looks barely older than fourteen summers."
"You of all people should know that age doesn't really matter." Ser Barristan turned to the competition and stared at Naruto in wonder. "But that one really strikes as odd…he looks relaxed and calm and completely confident." The famous knight crossed his arms and leaned back against a wooden post of the pavilion, "Very interesting."
Just above the two knights was the royal family. The King himself sat on the elevated area of the pavilion and he watched with great interest at the last round of the competition. In his years he had never seen such a young man make it to the final rounds of a tourney, especially since the young blond looked to be a peasant – just a normal civilian on the streets. But his demeanor and confidence did not reflect his appearance. From his posture and elegant smile, he acted like a highborn soldier with training, or just a smart boy with a keen sense of observation. Either way, Robert was rooting for the boy.
"One thousand gold dragons on the boy!" announced the King to Littlefinger loudly.
Tyrion chuckled and shrugged while Petyr gestured to his servant to record the King's bet. The Imp and Littlefinger were impressed with the boy, but they weren't confident enough to invest in him. If the King predicted that the young boy would win against the experienced man then they weren't going to say otherwise.
All the way on the other side of the pavilion, Prince Oberyn chuckled and crossed his leg over his other. He had heard the King's bet and had wanted to follow, but he would follow Tyrion and Littlefinger's way and play it safe. As interesting the boy was, he wasn't about to lose any gold over him.
"By the Great Seven, I can't believe he's actually in the final round!" cried Tyene as she sat up, fully awake and looking at the scene with great interest.
For the past while, Obara and her sisters had been paying their undivided attention to the competition, getting increasingly tense as Naruto made it further and further to the top. They found themselves cheering for the boy, much to Prince Oberyn's amusement, and Tyene had been leaning forward so much that she might fall the pavilion soon.
"If he wins a lot of people are going to lose money." Sarella said with a smile on her face. "It would be a huge upset."
Obara smiled and steadied her breathing in anticipation. "I hope he wins…"
"Of course you do~" teased Tyene as she and Sarella hugged their sisters arms, holding their blushing sister close.
"Shut up!"
"Ready your bows!" announced the main judge as he stood behind the two remaining archers. "Draw your arrows!"
Lothor Brune, a man in his late thirties, stood next to his opponent. His arrow was drawn and he was prepared to fire, just awaiting the call from the judge. Droplets of sweat dripped down his brows and onto his chin. Twenty thousand gold dragons were at stake at the moment. With such money he could quit his life as a freerider and maybe buy a high-class whore from Lys. He could enjoy the rest of his days in luxury and warmth, but he had someone standing in his way. A eighteen year old kid who managed to outmatch every opponent he came across.
'Damn this kid!' thought the man as he resisted the urge to look at the boy, wondering how nervous he must be at the moment.
Contrary to his opponent's belief, Naruto was quite calm. His arms were relaxed and his fingers were still; his breathing was quiet and steady, and his eyes were locked. This really was no challenge for him, even with such distance. No matter how far, given the right aim any target could be hit. Naruto was used to moving targets. A real challenge would be to try to hit a moving target on horseback with only one arrow in his quiver. A nonmoving target while standing on a firm platform is absolutely ridiculous, and, apparently to people in King's Landing, worth twenty thousand gold dragons.
"Release!"
Naruto's fingers released his hold, and just like before, his arrow sailed through the winds and across the field. As if time had slowed around him, Naruto's eyes focused on the tail of his arrow and watched it become closer and closer to the target, the marked spot of the center becoming larger. Then, one of Naruto's favorite sounds was heard, the sounds of the arrow hitting directly at the target. Once again, Naruto's arrow had planted itself right at the center of the target.
A smile came onto his face as the crowd roared in applause, but then he noticed his opponent was cheering as well.
"Judges need a ruling!" the three judges made their way over to the targets, and then Naruto saw, both his and his opponent's arrows had struck the dead-center of the target. It appeared that Lothor had noticed the same thing and had stopped his cheering. The entire crowd, including the high-borns on the pavilion, was silent. All looking over at the judges and waiting for their ruling.
"What's the result?!" cried a loud voice from the pavilion, and people looked over and saw the King standing up and looking over at the judges.
The main judge ran over to the King and bowed. "Your Grace, the two arrows had struck the exact same spot and were equally deep into the target, so we rule that a second arrow must be fired."
"Alright then, let's get going!" ordered the King as the judge scrambled back.
The judges all stood behind the two contestants this time, and were all paying their undivided attention to the targets far ahead. The old arrows were still attached to the targets as the second arrows were drawn.
"Draw your arrows!" Lothor exhaled deeply as he drew his arm back and aimed for the target again, "Release!"
Lothor watched his arrow follow the same path as his previous one. His heart started to beat faster as adrenaline slowed his perception. The arrow was traveling painfully slow as it neared its target, but it was looking very promising. He could practically smell the gold coming to him and feel the tightness of the woman he was going to buy. Then his arrow finally struck the target, very much like his previous shot, landing mere hairs away from the first arrow. Two arrows were attached to his target, one right on the target and one a hair's width beside it.
But when he looked over to how Naruto did, his dreams shattered like his hope.
Naruto's target had two arrows attached to it, but the first one had been split in half and was sprawled out like a whore's open legs. The second arrow had hit the exact same spot as the first, and it split the first arrow in half. The second arrow had pushed the first arrow's head deeper into the target and forced its own head into the target enough to remain stuck to it. Naruto had struck the dead center twice in a row.
"We have a winner!" cried the main judge as he walked over to Naruto and lifted his arm into the air.
The crowd roared into a phenomenal applause and people on the pavilion were on their feet cheering, the loudest among the three Dornish girls to the right side. The King himself was clapping for the boy as were countless other lords and knights. All the while, Naruto smiled and bowed to both crowds and always had a smile on his face.
"I can't believe it!" cried Tyene loudly as she clapped hard for the boy. "Naruto actually did it!"
Obara was on her feet and waved her arms around in celebration. She felt extremely happy for the young man and wanted to run down and congratulate him, but decided that it could wait. Naruto still needed to receive his prize of twenty thousand gold dragons!
"Damn, I should have betted on him!" muttered Petyr as he looked over at the King, who was laughing and raising his wine glass at the boy.
Naruto bowed low for the King before the judges all turned to him. "Please follow us to get your prize money; if you want, we could have several guards escort you directly to the bank of King's Landing for safety measures."
The young man shook his head with a huge smile. "Hell no, are you kidding me? I still have to win the melee competition!" he grinned as he cracked his neck.
