Alex spent the time, in the air, studying up his abilities so that he couldn't get blindsided when it came down to brass taxes.
For one, he needed to fully understand the Runes Magic so he can work with and against Runes on the daily as they had sizable power and would not be easily broken with brute or sheer force, sadly... he only had the basic book with sidenotes, but they worked in setting barriers, basic enchants, and even traps.
Two, Guns Magic was easy to do with his larger weapons, though he hasn't fully explored that aspect yet, but that would not be good to just focus on one type of Holder Magic while he looked the sort of a bounty hunter, he needed to expand out to better use that to his advantage, Requip could help in using his weapons on the fly and he could use some of the Caster Magics to make it a size more troubling to deal with him.
Either way, it would work to switch up his skill set while keeping to the bounty hunter asthenic, though he should also take into account the other skills as well. Thankfully, Freefall, the drake that carried him, had no issue with him practicing his 'One Piece' skills which used up even the advanced skills of both Armament and Observation while also using the C.P. black book to walk on air, cleave the clouds, and even toughen his body before they got a glimpse of Magnolia as Alex spoke. "There it is... Magnolia..."
The city was quite a sight; stalls, shops, and homes filled its ever-expansive limits, a great deal of it also merged with the Gildarts System to shift the buildings and structures about to give a straight line for the Crash Magic Wizard only added to the awe that the city has been around for a great deal of time, to have seen the rise... and fall of several things in sight, Alex blinking to the structure of Fairy Tail coming into view before he patted Freefall on the neck. "Get us close, boy, and we can test out your abilities before trying to approach Fairy Tail." Freefall screeched in agreement as they soared in and set down at the edge of the East Forest. Alex hopped off with stretching before he turned to Freefall. "Okay, show me what you can do, Freefall, it is only fair to show some other skills than just flight."
Freefall beamed with a clear sign of glee as Alex hung his head in unease. "That look is telling that I am in trouble..." Freefall moved and slashed, Alex swaying out of the way to a corner of his Stetson getting cut as Alex slid into a boxer stance as Freefall whirled about and flapped as he clenched his... "You darn iguana! That's Armament!" The usually white talons gleamed with blackened steel as the drake chuckled as Alex huffed before he smirked. "Okay, that's only fair..." He breathed before they clashed, talon against fist, Freefall using the air to his advantage while Alex made up for the aerial strikes with evading and striking back before Freefall looped above and breathed, a red glow before Alex rolled out of the way as a torrent was blasted at him as he exclaimed. "You can breathe fire!?"
Freefall landed back down before smirking with snorting, chilling Alex's face as he pulled off his hat and fluffed it before Freefall opened his mouth and there were clear signs of volts coming from the back before one spark got him. "YEOW!" Alex yelped as he did a funky dance before Freefall flopped backwards in laughing before Alex huffed. "Very funny, iguana..." He kicked the laughing beast that only got it laughing even more as Alex shook his head in amuse before he spoke. "So, you think we are properly ready." The drake wiped off a tear before tilting its head and giving a fifty-fifty sound. "Better than nothing, let's move back into Magnolia..."
The drake cheered in letting Alex back on before taking flight and they moving back into Magnolia before Alex spotted the guild. "There it is, that building with Salamander's guild mark must be Fairy Tail!" Freefall screeched with aiming before Alex paled. "Freefall, you better not...!" But it was in vain as the drake plowed right for the guild hall as Alex exclaimed. "FREEFALLLL!"
The guild had devolved into fighting once more, Lucy not sure if any of them were sane before Natsu paused with smelling the air, Gray who was half-naked for some reason, raised a brow at the sudden change of behavior before a voice started to come closer and closer. "freeFALLLL!" The fighting stopped short when, suddenly, something slammed right through the structure wall, all agape at what could only be a small wyvern or younger dragon emerging from the charge before it brought up its claws as a person on its back exclaimed. "NO! WE ARE NOT FIGHTING IN THE GUILD!" The person looked up to the swipe before he nearly exclaimed. "HOLY S-"
A massive fist crashed into the mount and rider and slammed them into the flooring as Natsu wailed. "An actual dragon or something and Master killed it!"
"Yeah... I think Master might have killed someone else in that punch as well." Lucy stared up to the titan that towered over all of them, his fist planted with a pair of scaly wings flattened out before he bellowed.
"I thought Natsu was getting a bit overboard, but this might be the first time some wyvern creature also decided to crash into the guild for a fight." Lucy gaped at the titan before he removed his fist and revealed at the creature was closer to a wyvern than a dragon, but it was also clearly a mount as there was someone flattened into the floorboards as well as both had white in their eyes, meaning that they were knocked out as the titan shrunk down to an old man to greet Lucy.
"Nice to meet ya!" That surprised Lucy as well as the failed strike before Master Makarov, as introduced by Mirajane, flipped to the second floor, bopping his head, but recovering to list off complaints of Fairy Tail from the Council, ranging from Gray's theft of underwear, Elfman's differing opinions, and Natsu's clear levels of destruction, forgoing Hargeon Town as that was a little less damage on account of another party slipping in, but all of that was nothing as he set fire to the complaints on fire and feed it to Natsu before explaining that magic is not meant to be confined, it is meant to be free and the Wizards that follow Fairy Tail should follow the same method, which was why the Fairy Tail guild was truly number one.
All the while, the cheer covered the removal of the two beings that got wrecked, taken to the infirmary, despite the drake's size that requested several beds...
Alex blinked back to life, staring up at the ceiling before he blinked to recover fully before glancing to the side, Freefall asleep still with a bubble as the drake covered several beds in the infirmary from the looks of it. He sweat dropped at the sight before whispering. "How are you even... we were knocked out and you are now just sleeping...!" It was official so far, Freefall was one drake that will not make any sense to Alex as he glanced to the other side, no one was in the room, except for the slumbering figure of Elfman and Mirajane coming as she spoke to him being awake. "Oh, hello, I see that you're up!" She came over as Alex spoke.
"Yeah, it took a bit, a bit sore with getting slammed with this lizard breath..." Alex rubbed Freefall's head and the drake purred to the touch. "But we're okay..." Alex removed his hand to rub his body to find bandages around his torso, but nowhere else as he spoke. "Huh, I was expecting a bit more damage from getting punched by a giant."
"Master held back by accident, you surprised all of us with your entrance." Alex nodded as Mirajane took a seat and spoke. "So why did you and your... dragon...?"
"Freefall's a drake, not a wyvern or a dragon, sadly..." He snorted as he continued. "He could give some members a real headache, but he is not a threat, more like a adrenaline junkie."
"Okay, so why did you and your drake crash into our guild like that?" Her smile slipped a bit as she continued. "Which guild do you belong to?"
"Well, that's complicated." Alex answered with reaching to take his Stetson and hold it in hand. "I don't really belong to any guild, I was in Hargeon when Natsu Dragneel dropped in and I manhandled Bora's men before he got into the fight, but I recently... started to figure out my own magic and met Freefall before we set out for Magnolia, I, well, we were hoping to join Fairy Tail, but he wanted to get into a fight to test himself against anyone."
"Oh, well, that explains that!" Mirajane clapped with a smile as Elfman jumped to the sound before looking around in slight surprise. "We can get you a guild mark and for Freefall as well, that is if..." Alex nodded as he took one of Freefall's horns and shook, the drake starting before it blinked and craned its neck to Alex as he spoke.
"Hey, you want to get a guild mark to be a part of Fairy Tail." Freefall screeched happily as Alex turned back to Mirajane. "We would like that."
"Good." Mirajane turned to her brother as she spoke. "Elfman, can you please help..." She turned back and Alex spoke.
"Alex Stetmann..."
"...Alex Stetmann and Freefall to the counter so we can stamp them?"
"Of course, Mira!" Elfman got up and started to help Freefall up as he exclaimed. "Helping out is what a real man should do!" Alex snorted as Freefall screeched in terror, clearly not all that fond of being carried in surprise, but they still headed back into the entrance hall, Alex raising a brow to slightly-busted request board before they arrived the counter and Mirajane brought out the stamp before asking.
"Where would you like your mark?" Freefall gestured to the collar and a radiant red mark was planted on the drake's neck, it growing to size on the neck while Alex thought about it before he decided, tilting his head to the right as he spoke.
"Left collar, it does need to be able to be seen and I am not discard any of me gear when I put it back on." She printed it on and it was a brilliant blue as he smiled to the new mark before they both headed back into the infirmary to grab Alex's gear and Freefall's saddle before they return, the members a tad uneasy with a large reptile following the lead of a newcomer before he took with Freefall guzzling up some water. "So, what's with the board, I hardly think it could be that banged up, just as we arrived."
"Oh, Natsu did that." Alex sweat dropped before an old man with a stave spoke.
"Natsu headed out to find Macao, the man had gone to eliminate Vulcans, monsters that take over weakened humans and animals to benefit their desires." Alex nodded before blinking at the old man sitting on the counter before he spoke.
"Master... Makarov?"
"That's my name." The old man glanced to him as he spoke. "You made quite the scene, but I am willing to trust you if you are earnest about your intentions." Alex snorted with flicking his Stetson upward.
"I look and feel like a bounty hunter, Master, I'll keep it on the level, though..." He sweated with Freefall drinking. "...I am not sure if Freefall is willing to listen if he thinks that I am not his partner anymore." Freefall chirped with looking up before going back into the bowl, the three sweat dropping as Makarov nodded.
"I see..."
"Still, I like the thought of Fairy Tail..." Alex smiled as he spoke with awe. "Are they real? Do fairies have tails, the eternal mystery, the unknown question." He smiled with a shake of the head. "That sounds like a better life than the worth of a scale, the flight of a mystical horse, or even how a Mermaid has a heel or not, it is a real life." He frowned as he continued. "But myth or not, it sounds so much better than the ruler of ghosts or even a prehistoric predator, their belief is the strongest ever, that is not a life, that is a dictatorship, it will never work." He blinked to the unease of Mira and the tension of Makarov before Freefall poked him, he looking as Freefall chirped in nuzzling before Alex smiled. "Sorry, I ran through the list in my mind and I just thought to myself that I would rather be happy than live my life as some mindless goon, that was not my idea of what life is." Both breathed as Makarov spoke.
"Well, you are much better in thinking than my grandson, he has... gotten worse and I don't know if I can do anything to assure that he will understand, if he pulls a grand stunt, then I would be forced to exile him for it." Mirajane jolted as she exclaimed.
"But Master...!"
"I know that he is S-Class and my grandson, but I can't just let him hurt himself and walk down a dark path that I had been forced to accept regardless, Ivan was arrogant, but Laxus shouldn't suffer for his crimes, nor mine." He gripped the stave a bit before Alex spoke, resting a hand on the old man's knee as he spoke.
"This problem affects all of us in different ways, if he wants to pick a fight, I would only welcome it if I would think there is a point to make, for now, I say that we just keep living on, after all, we are imperfect, we are meant to make mistakes and there is no shame in that." He patted the Master's leg as he got up and scratched Freefall. "Come on, you iguana, we are heading for the library." Freefall pouted, but accepted with following Alex as Mirajane glanced to Makarov.
"Master...?"
"We are imperfect..." He chuckled as he spoke. "What a family I have here, I have never seen anyone else think in those terms, I am sure that he will change this guild in ways we have never seen before." Mirajane nodded as the guild breathed and lived like no other in the world, they were more than a business, more than just friends with a common interest, they were family, every single one of them became the family the others would often need in their troubled times...
The library was a real archive of history, of rules, and of magics that Alex could barely contain himself in reading through all of it and absorbing the information that he could find, luckily finding a perfect catalogue of magic called Archive to house all of it in his mind before he devoted himself to learning more of Runes, several Caster Magics, and medical spells and methods before he blinked to a hidden gem and cracking it open, his face falling in sheer disbelief, but he forged on in reading it all, a theory and knowledge of Dragon Slaying, penned by a 'Belserion', Alex questioning if this was done by the original... or his heir.
'Dragon Slayer Magic is a powerful Lost Magic, strong enough to render the scale and reave the flesh of dragons with unique powers coming from the elemental or mythic powers of Dragons themselves. I don't know if the costs of overusing this power is valid, but during the time, we were hard-pressed and paid little mind to the costs, how foolish we were...'
'Dragon Slayers who push it too far would lose themselves in rage and fury, inflicting them as well with severe sickness of mobile vessels, like they would be forced to push harder and change, the Dragon Seeds are the reason why as they bless us with great power, but also the curse of becoming Dragons if we surge it with too much and lose ourselves in the immortal nature of Dragons, the Seeds also developing into Dragon Roots that carry that immortality.'
'Still, I suppose it is my own fault, wishing to join in battle with Belserion and giving rise to Dragon Slayers in general, and giving rise to him that lost his senses for carnage, blood, and power, to be crowned as King with no subjects to rule. I... failed and I am certain that my people have also started to fear us because we have been cursed and they don't see us as human anymore, just the new Dragons to come...' Alex gaped at the paragraph that stood out while he read before storing the book in his overcoat and grabbing one on Teleportation and reading through that.
It was... how did Fairy Tail not know about that book? It would have been clearly a legendary tome and one that would be held in the deepest vaults of that former kingdom, its words were even unknown without his pair of Wind-Readers, that scared him greatly that such a thing was just slightly hidden from sight, but his mind retained that knowledge, perhaps it would be key to keeping Dragon Slayers from transforming fully, but he couldn't jump the gun right now, he had to be sure if he dared attempt such a foolish notion, the book also spoke of self-assurance dissolving the Seed and leaving the powers to the Dragon Slayers, but removing it would rid them of those powers, a Root seemed to have the same function in giving the Dragon Slayer Magic, but removing it would just remove the Dragon transformation and that's it.
'So it comes down to finding Acnologia or this Irene and testing it out to be sure... That is a dangerous idea either way, so while I now have a full library on medical magics and methods in my head, I NEED to focus on me being a bounty hunter-looking Wizard.' He finished up with the Teleport method and breathed, his head killing him for a moment before relaxing as the knowledge was stored before Freefall scaled back down and offered a picture to Alex, Alex taking it to see the younger forms of several Fairy Tail Wizards, including Happy as a dragon.
It was... it was nice, cute in its own way, but also sad as some have left and others have died out, his eyes landing on the silver-haired girl in the pink dress before putting it on the table in breathing. "This is a lot to take in, Freefall, I don't know if we can easily match up with Fairy Tail's standard if we can't keep it all together." Freefall tilted his head before scaling the shelves again, surveying the lines and rows of books before plucking one with his mouth and bringing it to Alex, the revived human smiling as he took it and read it. "The Mind and its Power..." He cracked it open and read it, his eyes widening with his Wind-Readers before glancing at Freefall who answered in another way than just vocal.
"There is always some way to answer the questions, we don't just depend on our words or written print." Alex sweated as he retorted.
"That's... good to know..." Freefall rolled his eyes in speaking mentally again or rather telepathically.
"The book I just gave, lucky as we were, is a way to share thoughts and ideas to others, but also prevent others from reading our minds, that is perfect for someone in the business of bounty hunting, is it not?'
"Point..." Alex spoke as he read through it once more to be sure that he fully understood the method behind the Telekinesis and Telepathy aspects. "So, what else do you think that I should have that could help in being... a bounty hunter, exactly?" Freefall hummed before replying.
"Give me a second..." Freefall whipped about and started to search once more, Alex getting it down pat and using it in practice with putting the books back on the shelves, a bit of pressure on his mind, but it was not that annoying to feel terrible before Freefall beamed in grabbing another book, from the higher shelves, and bringing it to Alex as he spoke. "If we can find a suitable Eye Magic, you can identify ruses, hidden truths, and dangerous secrets, a bounty hunter assesses and reacts with the best of solutions and the worse of events."
"Lucky me..." Alex breathed as he didn't want to be all powerful, but considering his stockpile and his favor for both Lightning and Ice Magics, he resigned on it and read, going through the menagerie of types of magic before finding the perfect one, the Lens of Vow, but the cost was a bit high, in order to use the Lens to the fullest limits, it had to be used with a artificial eye, a regular eye can only withstand fifty percent or even less before it starts to break down, namely loss of vision and blindness if one is not careful. He breathed with closing the book before Freefall took it back up as he spoke. "Let's turn in, it has been a real rough day for right now."
"Of course, we can get proper lodgings later, a night under the stars would not hurt for this day." Alex nodded as they emerged to the dusk and bid the guild farewell, Natsu having returned with a saved Macao in tow and they slept under the stars, having also found a straw hut with a gravestone in front of it, Alex a bit grieved to be using it for the rest, but for now... it should be alright, there was no shame in using it now...
