Author's Note: Pairings are for the most part finalized. Buffy & Willow, Dawn & Ginny, Harry & Hermione. Which leaves Ron now without a pairing. But Ron compared to the others is a minor character as the story focuses more on Buffy, Dawn and Harry.

Boris Yeltsin: Faith, Xander and Giles are primarily side characters. You will see them during the Dark Willow arc at the end of Goblet of Fire and the First Evil arc at the end of Order of the Phoenix. You might see them on occasion for Half Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows but don't expect it very often if at all. They will primarily be setting up the new Slayer's HQ in the old Watcher's Council by then.

Azai Jin: The Dawn & Ginny pairing is in part a reference to my Wrong Memories series where the pairing there was Dawn & Willow. When I decided on the Dawn & Ginny pairing I thought maybe Dawn likes redheads and since I decided to do Buffy & Willow, that meant who would be the next possible candidate, especially in just about every story that I've done that Dawn has a pairing she's always been gay, there is currently only one story so far where Dawn is straight.

On Buffy and Dawn being more outraged, they should have been I agree. Harry should have been more suspicious, again I agree. I had forgotten a little bit what their individual character arcs had been like when I wrote them meeting. I may try and rewrite that chapter at some point to try and make it seem more realistic given their character arcs at the time as Buffy had just been through the deal with where she was trying to protect Dawn from Glory. So she should have been more furious that another member of her family has had it bad. And Harry who had lived with the Dursley's and already had Voldemort come after him twice and his believing for most of Prisoner of Azkaban that Sirius was out to kill him, should have been more skeptical.

Chapter 2: Meeting Dumbledore

July 7, 2001

Dawn woke to Buffy shaking her awake, "Dawn, time to get up. Harry should be getting out of the shower shortly. The attorney should be here in an hour."

Dawn nodded as she got out of bed and opened her luggage to get some clothes as Harry walked out of the bathroom. She hurried in took a shower, and got ready for the day.

An hour later a knock came at the door. Buffy went and opened it. "Ms. Buffy Summers?"

Buffy nodded, "Yes. I assume you're the Dursley's attorney?"

The man nodded as he entered the room, "Yes, ma'am. I'm Oliver Paine of Paine and Hope Law Firm. I have the custody papers; all that is required of you is your signature. I will give you a copy for when you return to America; I will keep a copy for our records, and take a copy to the appropriate offices here in England."

Buffy nodded, "And this will give me full custody and parental rights?"

"Yes ma'am. There is one clause in this; the Dursley's wanted to make sure you would not come asking for any money from them." Mr. Paine said.

"I don't want anything from my aunt and uncle after the way they treated my brother," Buffy said. "We'll manage without them somehow." She quickly signed the papers before the man left.

Harry waited till after Mr. Paine left before speaking up, "Buffy, don't worry about money. Mum and Dad left me some money, with plenty to spare. If they knew we would be reunited I'm sure they would want me to split it with you. And before you object, I insist. It's the least I can do. I owe you more than you can imagine for getting me out of the Dursley's house."

Buffy smiled at Harry. "Thank you, Harry," she said.

"No, Buffy, thank you," Harry said as he wrapped his arms around his big sister. He felt her wrap her arms around him and he smiled at the love he felt coming from her.

Buffy looked at the clock and noticed it was 10 am as a knock came at the door. She walked over and opened to find a man with a long white beard standing there.

Dumbledore smiled at Buffy warmly. "I'm Albus Dumbledore. I'm assuming your Elizabeth."

"That's my birth name," Buffy said. "I go by Buffy now."

She stepped aside as she purposefully held the door open silently inviting him in. She knew vampires could get into hotels, that they didn't need the invite. But old habits died hard.

"Morning, Professor," Harry said as Dumbledore entered the room.

"Good morning, Harry," Dumbledore replied as he pulled out his wand and waved it. Four chairs appeared so that they could all sit down. As Dawn sat down, he looked at her or more in particular the lightning scar on her forehead in the exact same location as Harry's.

"And this is my sister, Dawn," Buffy said.

"And I think there are some explanations that need to be made," Dumbledore said. "Such as how your sister and Harry share the same scar."

"We're not a hundred percent sure," Buffy said. "I have a theory about that though."

"I assume that theory has to go along with where you have been living the last five years?" Dumbledore asked.

"Professor?" Harry asked.

"When your mother gave birth to your sister, I was there," Dumbledore said. "Lily and James were adamant about giving her up for adoption. Lily didn't know what her parents would do if they found out she had been pregnant. So, before the adoption agent came, I placed a spell on the baby that would allow me to keep track of her location in case James and Lily ever wanted to locate her and potentially bring her home. Then five years ago the spell stopped working. It only started working again the last couple days."

Dumbledore pulled out his wand and waved it in front of Buffy. "The spell has been removed, my dear."

"Thank you," Buffy said. She hadn't been sure she liked knowing that she was being tracked for years like that. "Now I guess the explanation should start. For the last five years Dawn and I lived with our mother in Sunnydale, California."

"Ah the Hellmouth, that explains why I lost track of you. It would mask you from scrying magic such as what I used to keep track of you." Dumbledore said.

"I think you should start from the beginning, Buffy," Dawn said. "I am sure, Harry's Professor would like to know why you didn't go a school like Harry's."

"Well, I never went to a magic school," Buffy said. "My parents got a letter when I was ten and I told them I didn't want to go. They never explained to me that it was a magic school. For the next five years everything was normal for someone without magic anyways. I had this Dorothy Hamill phase." She saw the confused looks at the name on both Harry and Dumbledore's faces. "She was a professional figure skater. Anyways when I turned fifteen things changed. I was called as the Slayer."

Suddenly, Dumbledore started coughing. He regained his lost breath to see Buffy, Dawn and Harry look at him concerned. "Excuse me. Did you say Slayer?" he asked, weakly.

"Yep, that's me. I guess you already know what a Slayer is," Buffy said as Dumbledore nodded.

"What's a Slayer?" Harry asked.

Dawn looked at her sister who nodded toward her. "Into every generation, there is a chosen one. One girl in all the world. She alone will wield the strength and skill to stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their numbers. She is the Slayer," she recited from memory having heard it enough times from Giles since finding out that Buffy was the Slayer.

Buffy told Dumbledore and Harry everything. She started with when she was first called. As she got to the death of Merrick a tear fell from her eye as Dawn put a comforting hand on her shoulder. She smiled at her sister in thanks before continuing. She then told of how she defeated Lothos and how she burned down her high school gym to kill the vampires inside.

"After I burned down the gym, I was kicked out of school. The only place that would allow me back in was in Sunnydale and that's how we landed on the Hellmouth," Buffy said. She then went on to tell them about The Master, Angelus, the Three, the Bezoar, the Judge, Drusilla, Spike, the Mayor, and Adam. She stopped at Dracula for the rest was Dawn's story, and she thought Dawn should be the one to tell it."

"I take it by your pause this is part of the story that pertains to your sister?" Dumbledore asked.

Dawn sighed. "It does. "I was created about a year ago from Buffy," Dawn said. "Before that I was a glowing ball of energy known only as the Key."

"Dawn was sent to me to protect," Buffy added. "My memories, my family's, my friends, everyone who ever knew Dawn was real had their memories modified to add her to them."

Dawn went on to tell them about how Glory wanted to use her to return to her hell dimension. How their mother died from an aneurism, how Glory finally had captured and intended to sacrifice her to open the portal and finally of how Buffy saved her before the ritual could be performed.

Dumbledore nodded as he looked at Dawn, he had noticed the green glow around her but had dismissed it till now. "That explains the glow."

"You can see it?" Dawn asked.

"What glow?" Harry asked.

"Only things of serpent construct or people who are crazy can see the Key in it's true form," Dawn said. "Which means …"

"I'm crazy," Dumbledore said with a laugh. "To get to my age one would have to be at least a little crazy." He looked at Buffy. "Now unless I miss my guess, I believe the monks that created Dawn had a backup plan. Not that they needed it as you kept her safe. But they had one anyways."

"I think their backup plan since Dawn not only has Harry's scar but is seeing his memories in her dreams," Buffy said, "was that if I should fail. Dawn would go to Harry."

"And as a result," Harry said as he looked at Dawn, "The protection that our mother left on me to protect me from Voldemort …"

"…would protect Dawn as well," Dumbledore finished for Harry.

"Does that mean I was actually made from both Buffy and Harry?" Dawn asked.

"I believe it does," Dumbledore said. "The monks would have wanted to make sure the connection existed in case one plan failed. Which means you like your sister are a witch. Now all that is left is telling us how you found out. We know that your mother died. I take it you found the muggle paperwork for your adoption?"

"Dawn found it actually," Buffy said, "but otherwise yes."

Harry had listened to the entire story and he understood now everything that had been said to him and why they had wanted to wait to tell him. His sisters' lives had mirrored in ways his own. They too had been their own bad guys to deal with. He also realized why Dawn had referred to him as her brother. If the monks had created a link to Buffy to make sure that she would protect Dawn and they did indeed have a backup plan. They would have created the link to himself as well.

"Now I believe you have some decisions to make," Dumbledore said.

"What to do now," Buffy said. "As well as my name. Legally I'm still Buffy Anne Summers. I'd have to go through a lot of red tape back home to get it changed back."

"May I suggest at least as far as the wizarding world is concerned," Dumbledore said, "that you use the name of Potter. After all that name was never taken from you as far as we're concerned. Plus, I do believe as the eldest of your siblings you may be able to claim your grandparent's seats in the Wizengament."

"I would need time to do something like that," Buffy admitted.

"Of course, which brings me to the next thing," Dumbledore said. "Harry has to return to school in less than two months, his tuition was paid in advanced by yours parents when he was born. I believe Dawn should enroll as well so we can start bringing her up to speed. I would even tutor her myself to help her get caught up."

"I can't afford for Dawn to go to school with Harry," Buffy said with a sigh.

"Can I pay for it, Professor?" Harry asked. "She is after my sister, right?"

"She is," Dumbledore agreed, "your twin." He looked back at Buffy. "I was going to award Dawn a scholarship but since Harry is offering to pay then that will not be needed as long as you consent."

Dawn knew that Buffy had never wanted her to mess with magic. But she also knew if she was like Harry it was apart of her. "Please, Buffy. Plus, who knows maybe they can teach me to control the Key so nobody can make me open a portal."

"Could you do that?" Buffy asked as she looked at Dumbledore.

"It would be very advanced magic," Dumbledore said. "But it would be possible, yes. She and Harry are going to need extra lessons anyways to shield their minds from one another."

Buffy nodded as she looked at Harry. "If I say yes, Harry. I have to know you are okay with it. I'm not going to put you in a hard spot moneywise."

"I am, Buffy," Harry said. "I have more than enough."

"He is correct," Dumbledore said. "Lily and James were not poor by any stretch of the imagination. James' father invented a hair potion that is still used today. In fact if Harry counted his vault today he would likely see more money in it now than when he first went to Hogwarts as being till now the sole heir of the Potter fortune he would have been receiving a constant flow of income from the constant sale of yours and his grandfather's invention."

"Alright," Buffy said as she looked toward Dumbledore. "I have one more condition."

"I figured you might," Dumbledore said. "At least for the coming school year, you would want to remain close to Harry. You and he have fourteen years of catch up bonding to do. I think I have a position. Hogwarts hasn't had a guidance counselor since the last one left years ago."

"I know nothing about being a guidance counselor," Buffy said.

"You can of course help out with Defense Against the Dark Arts on occasion, but I have someone for that position already," Dumbledore said. "The only position open is the guidance counselor."

Buffy sighed, "Alright."

Dumbledore waved his wand and a quill and parchment appeared in it. He quickly wrote some things down before handing them to Harry. "Here is what they will need, Harry. I assume you will help them get everything."

"I will, Professor," Harry said.

Dumbledore nodded as he looked back at the sisters. "When the term starts in September. Harry will show you how to get on the train that bring you to Hogwarts. While Dawn will have to ride back and forth every year from here on out. Buffy, I would like to give you the experience on what you missed out on nine years ago. Then if you get your apparition license then you can apparate back and forth."

"Thank you," Buffy said.

"Next when you both arrive at Hogwarts, you will be attending tutoring sessions with me at least afternoons a week after classes are done for the day," Dumbledore said. "Oh and, Harry." He handed Harry his letter for the year. "I thought you might want to make just one trip together."

Harry smiled, "Thanks, Professor."

Buffy nodded as Dumbledore stood up, "Thank you, Albus. I'm sure we will do just fine. We will see you at the start of the school year then." She let Dumbledore out and then turned towards Harry and Dawn. "So who's up for some shopping?"

They left their hotel and made their way to the Leaky Cauldron.

The bartender nodded to Harry as they entered, "Good day, Mr. Potter. Been awhile since I saw you in here, who's this with you?"

"My sisters," Harry said as the bartender looked at him quizzically. "It's a long story." He led Buffy and Dawn out the back door into what appeared to be a dead-end alley.

"Harry?" Buffy said confused on whet they were in a dead-end alley.

Harry smiled at Buffy and Dawn as he walked over to the brick wall in front of them. "Three up…two across…" he muttered. "Okay you might want to stand back a moment."

Buffy and Dawn did as they were told and stepped back away from Harry as he tapped the wall three times with the point of his wand. The brick he had touched quivered — it wriggled — in the middle, a small hole appeared — it grew wider and wider — a second later they were facing an archway onto a cobbled street that twisted and turned out of sight."

"Welcome," said Harry, "to Diagon Alley."

Dawn had a huge grin on her face as she looked around, "This is just like, wow."

Buffy smiled at Dawn's enthusiasm, she could understand why. This place had that kind of impact on a person.

The sun shone brightly on a stack of cauldrons outside the nearest shop. Cauldrons — All Sizes — Copper, Brass, Pewter, Silver — Self-Stirring — Collapsible, said a sign hanging over them. "Yeah, you'll be needing one, Dawn. Do you need one Buffy?" said Harry, Buffy shook her head no. "Ok we need to go get some money first anyways."

A low, soft hooting came from a dark shop with a sign saying Eeylops Owl Emporium — Tawny, Screech, Barn, Brown, and Snowy. Several boys had their noses pressed against a window with broomsticks in it. Harry smiled, "We will want to stop in both the Owl Emporium and the broomstick shop there before we leave. I know Buffy at least will likely want an owl to talk to her friends back in America. And I want to get you both a broomstick; I will teach you how to fly."

Buffy blinked, "Uhm…."

Harry shook his head, "No objections, Buffy. You're getting one and that's that. After all you have to see why I like playing Quidditch."

"Is that some kind of sport?" Dawn asked.

"Yes," Harry said as they had reached a snowy white building that towered over the other little shops. Standing beside its burnished bronze doors, wearing a uniform of scarlet and gold, was —

"Yeah, that's a goblin," said Harry quietly as they walked up the white stone steps toward him.

Now they were facing a second pair of doors, silver this time, with words engraved upon them: Enter, stranger, but take heed. Of what awaits the sin of greed, For those who take, but do not earn, Must pay most dearly in their turn. So if you seek beneath our floors. A treasure that was never yours, Thief, you have been warned, beware. Of finding more than treasure there.

Harry smiled as Dawn and Buffy looked at the engraved doors, "You would be crazy to rob this bank."

A pair of goblins bowed them through the silver doors and they were in a vast marble hall. About a hundred more goblins were sitting on high stools behind a long counter, scribbling in large ledgers, weighing coins in brass scales, examining precious stones through eyeglasses. There were too many doors to count leading off the hall, and yet more goblins were showing people in and out of these. Harry, Buffy, and Dawn made for the counter.

"Morning," said Harry to a free goblin. "We've come to open two new accounts and transfer some money out of mine in to each of the new ones."

The goblin nodded, "Names….."

Harry looked to Buffy and Dawn before returning his gaze to the goblin, "Dawn Marie Potter and Elizabeth Lilyanne Potter."

The goblin nodded and looked at some books, "I can set up Ms. Dawn Potter's account. But we seem to have a problem. Ms. Elizabeth Potter already has an account."

"I do?" Buffy asked.

"Do you not have your key?"

"No," Buffy said. "My mom and dad gave me up for adoption. I didn't know this place existed till Dawn and I met our brother."

The goblin nodded and went to talk to a superior before returning, "Ah it seems your key was left in our safe keeping thirteen years ago, upon your parent's death."

"But how?" Buffy asked. "They gave me up. They died before they ever tried to find me."

"I do not know, Ms. Potter," the goblin replied. "Now Mr. Potter if you will sign this form. Ms. Dawn Potter if you will sign also. This will open the account in your name and transfer some of his money in to your vault."

Harry nodded signing the paperwork before handing Dawn the quill and then she signed. The goblin then handed her a key. "Will there be anything else?"

Buffy nodded. "All three of us would like to make a withdrawal. Also I was wondering is it possible to change Wizarding money into British Pounds or American Dollars."

The goblin nodded, "It is possible to exchange currency to any muggle currency that has ever been circulated throughout the muggle world, you can also change muggle currency in to Wizarding money. I will have someone take you down to your vaults. Griphook!"

Griphook was yet another goblin. They followed Griphook toward one of the doors leading off the hall. Griphook held the door open for them as they walked through. They were in a narrow stone passageway lit with flaming torches. It sloped steeply downward and there were little railway tracks on the floor. Griphook whistled and a small cart came hurtling up the tracks toward them. They climbed in and were off.

At first they just hurtled through a maze of twisting passages. The rattling cart seemed to know its own way, because Griphook wasn't steering.

Dawn was beginning to look very green, and when the cart stopped, Dawn got out and had to lean against the wall to stop her knees from trembling. "I always hated roller coasters, and for good reason it seems."

Griphook walked up to two vaults side by side, "Mr. Potter, Ms. Elizabeth Potter your vaults." Griphook unlocked the doors. A lot of green smoke came billowing out, and as it cleared, Dawn and Buffy gasped. Inside were mounds of gold coins. Columns of silver. Heaps of little bronze.

Harry smiled, "Now you see why I had offered to pay Dawn's tuition, Buffy. And why I was prepared to give you some before we learned that mum and dad left you some. I have enough here to probably last two lifetimes. What I gave Dawn is only a small fraction and it will pay for not only her books and tuition but give her a nice little nest egg too."

Buffy nodded as she looked at the vault the goblin said was hers. There was as much in Harry's vault as hers. "Griphook isn't it?" she asked the goblin who nodded. "We know Harry is receiving profits from our grandfather's invention. Was I too?"

"Yes, Ms. Potter," Griphook answered. "To my knowledge you both receive an even split as the only heirs."

"Just fill your sack, Buffy," Harry said. "If we need more we can come back for more later."

Buffy nodded as she began to pile some of her money into a bag. Seeing something white out of her peripheral vision caught her attention. Lying on the floor nestled perfectly atop a pile of galleons was a clean white envelope. Buffy's curiosity got the better of her.

"Dawn?" Buffy said as she looked at her sister who had been standing at the door watching her. "What's that?"

Dawn came over next to Buffy and looked at where Buffy was pointing. She saw nothing. "What's what?"

Buffy pointed to the envelope. "That envelope."

"I don't see anything where your pointing, Buffy, other than more money," Dawn said.

Buffy picked up the envelope off the ground. There was a flash of light around the envelope as her fingers came in contact with it.

"Now I see it," Dawn said. "I think there was some magic hiding it so only you could see it. Open it up or I will."

Buffy slipped her finger along the edge and carefully ripped the seal. She reached inside and pulled out a parchment. Buffy gasped reading the first line. She read the rest through quickly.

"Buffy?" questioned Dawn, seeing her sister's eyes tear up while reading the paper. Wordlessly, Buffy handed over the parchment to Dawn not even bothering to wipe the tears that managed to fall from her eyes.

Dawn took the paper and read over what it said.

Dear Elizabeth,

If you are reading this letter now, then we are most likely dead. I've charmed this letter, so it can only be seen by your eyes. (Your mum is quite good at that.) That's your father. He's sitting beside me holding your brother, Harry, while I write this. They both send you their love. If you're in your vault then you very likely also know who Harry is. Elizabeth, we want you to know that we will always love you. You were born completely out of love and your birth was a blessing for your father and I. Never forget that. We only gave you up because my parents, your grandparents, would very likely never have allowed me to keep you or possibly outright disowned me. So, we did the only thing we could do and give you up. We had your best intentions at heart, love.

Your mum is crying now, so I'll take over. I remember the day you were born so clearly, dear heart. You were so tiny and quiet. I could already tell you would be a real heartbreaker when you grew up. You have your mother's looks. Giving you up was the hardest thing we've ever done. If you are reading this, know that we died with the unfulfilled promise of coming for you. But if we didn't that means Voldemort found us because of some stupid prophecy. Lily thinks she may have found a way to stop the Dark Lord from killing Harry. It's risky and dangerous, but if it works your brother will live. Take care and watch out for him, baby.

This is your mother. I'm sorry for crying, dear. We love you and your brother so much.

Your Mum and Dad,

James and Lily Potter

Harry walked into the vault to find out what was taking so long and saw Dawn holding Buffy, who had tears streaming down her face. He walked over to them and put a hand on Dawn's shoulder. Dawn handed the letter to Harry who read it and understood why Buffy was crying. He looked at everything in the vault and he knew that their parents had always intended to bring Buffy home but Voldemort killed them before they had that chance. He put his arms around his sisters and hugged them close.
