During his third tour in Afghanistan, John is a prisoner of war and is forced to play Russian Roulette. Thereafter, he finds comfort in the act of putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger.

Mycroft Holmes tasks Molly with the hardest challenge she has ever faced: gain the trust of Sherlock Holmes and get him sober before the Honeymoon Killer strikes again. Molly becomes more and more obsessed and intrigued by the younger Holmes, whose sarcastic and rude behavior is really a front for feelings he tries to hide.

It's Sherlock's birthday! As disgruntled as he is, it's the first birthday he will be celebrating as Molly's partner. John and Lestrade take him out for the yearly drinkies while Molly is at work, but when she's off the clock she finds a way to make his birthday VERY special, not only for him but for her as well. Sherlock is surprised that he finds himself ready for her gift.

Lestrade has to conduct a thorough background check on Dr. John Watson before he can allow him to help Sherlock solve crimes. In the process, he has a discussion with one of John's ex-army friends, and what he learns about the retired army doctor's history is most enlightening! (This used to be a one-shot, but now I've added a second chapter to it.)
