I recently watched North and South, and almost immediately I heard a song that made me think, what would happen if Margaret Hale had really wanted only to give John Thornton a business proposition? What if she really hadn't loved him? What if she had continued to live in Milton, but only to keep an eye on the property she now owned? This is my take on what might've happened.
