Mr. John Knightley and his wife, Emma's sister, Isabella, come to visit and bring Isabella's friend, a widow, with them, Mrs. Modesta Shivers. Mrs. Shivers is a woman of rare beauty and accomplishment, and she seems, to Emma, to take an improper interest in Emma's husband.

Things Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill might have been thinking/doing while everyone else was distracted by picnics. I use some of Austen's text to fit the pieces of my version of their plotline together with their actual plotline in the novel. It's meant to be canon-compliant.
