Heya readers! I don't really have that much of a background story for this I just wanted to have some fun. I am also working on a DonniexOC story as well... so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess I might be doing separate romance shipping? LOL
Just real quick, I am dyslexic and have a learning disability, so I apologize for any spelling errors.
Anyway hope you enjoy!
"WHAT?! What do you mean we're moving?!" Terra stood up from the dinner table, eyes wide, mouth hanging open.
Her mom sighed, messaging the bridge of her nose. She had hopped her daughter wouldn't overreact, she even bought tacos to help ease in the news, "Terra, I know this is sudden, but promotion is a good thing. It's a good, stable job with high-wage. We'll be living better off then we have ever been," She tried to explain, trying to convince her not to worry. But she knew it would be hard to leave their town, the country her daughter had only ever known. She knew how much she loved California, and not wanting to ever leave, "Everything has already been set up; our new apartment, new school, it's a great place in New York.-"
"NEW YORK?! WE'RE MOVING TO NEW YORK?!" Her mom bit her tongue letting that one slide, but too late now, "We're moving to the other side of the country?!" Terra's arms dropped, dread on her face, before anger took over, "Why that far away?! I won't be able to surf in that putrid ocean! Do you know how disgusting and polluted that water is?! And what about my friends, and all the surf compactions I was going to participate?! It's not fair!"
"Terra Parker, sit down," Her mom ordered, trying very hard not to raise her voice, yelling back won't help the situation. Terra clenched her fists, plopping back in her seat. Crossing her arms tightly she turned away, but her mom could see the tears in her eyes. She sighed, reaching out to touch her daughter's hand, "I'm sorry Terra, I know this is hard, I wish things could stay the same. Please believe me when I say I tried to find work local so we wouldn't have to move," Terra started to tremble, emotions were starting to come out, "But, I have to believe that something good will come out of this." She gave her a genuine smile.
Terra let out a big sigh and muttered "yeah", before standing up, and headed to the front door. Her mom frowned, watching her daughter leave with her skateboard.
Terra plugged in her earbuds and turned up her music. She needed sometime to think, and what better why to distract yourself then ridding along side the coast? The sun was slowly setting over the horizon, making it look like it was touching the ocean, orange, yellow and pink colors filled the sky as the suns rays shined on the waves. Terra skated down the hill, right on the side where the fence blocked the cliff down to the water, giving her a perfect view.
Her tears finally release, cranking up the volume on her phone, listening to one of her favorite songs that ironically fit her mood at the moment.
~Sometimes I don't really know myself
Devil on my back, pray for me, need help
Angel in the front tryna guide my steps
Who do you call when you need some help?
Who do you call when you by yourself?
Who do you call when you feel down low?
I just wanna scream, I just wanna explode
I, I just wanna let go, I
I just wanna let go, yeah (I, yeah)
I just wanna let go (I, yeah)
I just wanna let go, yeah (I, yeah, yeah)
I just wanna let go (I, I just wanna let go)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Got a devil on my left and a angel on my right
I'm just tryna live my life, I'm just hangin' in the fight (yuh)
Swingin' off the web of life, glidin' through the breeze (Breeze)
My uncle always told me that it never would be easy (nah)
Now I'm lookin' to the sky hoping that he rest in peace
Violence in the streets, I just wanna calm the beast
All these problems I'm just fightin' with myself are enemies
Looking for my peace while I'm (Looking for my peace while I'm)~
Looking out on the ocean, Terra could see surfers out on the waves. Stopping her board, she had reached her special spot in the hole town; A long cliff edge, right above ocean. On rainy days the waves would be so large that they would crash right at the top of the edge. Popping up her board to grab it, she jumped over the "danger" sign. Walking all the way to the edge, before sitting down.
Letting her left leg dangle, she stared out into open ocean, soaking in last time to see the beauty of her home. Her tears kept falling as she began to sign with the lyrics.
~"I just wanna swing and fly away (fly away)
I just wanna see a better day (yeah)
I just wanna soar and never drown (never drown)
I'm looking for my happiness now (now)
I just wanna swing and fly away (fly away)
I just wanna see a better day (a better day)
I just wanna soar and never drown (drown)
I'm looking for my happiness now, yeah"~
She leaned back, resting on the cliff. she covered her eyes with her sleeve, as she silently cried to herself.
~Sometimes I don't really know myself
Devil on my back, pray for me, need help
Angel in the front tryna guide my steps (my steps)
Who do you call when you need some help? (Some help)
Who do you call when you by yourself? (Yourself)
Who do you call when you feel down low? (down low)
I just wanna scream, I just wanna explode (explode)

The move came faster then she would have liked, everything they owned in that tiny little beach house was now backed away. Terra's mom said she didn't have to get rid of her surfboard, knowing how much it meant to her, she even said her new room would be so much bigger that she could hang it on the wall, instead of stuffing it in the garage like she use too. They both said goodbye to their neighbors and friends, Terra's friends promising to keep in contact, and that she was totally welcome to stay over during surf-comp. That made her feel a little better.
2 plane rides and under 12 hours, they finally made it to the town that never sleeps. Terra stared out the plane's window seeing the busy city below, to a kid who only ever lived in the suburbs, it looked very cramped. Once the plane landed they immediately hailed a taxi and drove off to their new apartment. Terra kept looking out the windows, all the people, shops, bright lights were stating to give her anxiety, she clutched her skateboard in her lap.
Her mom suddenly pointed out the window, "Oh look, Terra! That's your new school." Terra looked where her mom pointed, "Roosevelt High School", it was definitely a big building, much bigger then her old school. She groaned, slumping down in her seat some more, "We don't live too far away, so it's in perfect walking distance."
"Yay, that's great." Terra grumbled, pulling her beanie down over her eyes. She avoided looking anymore.
"Ma'am, were here." The taxi driver said, stopping in front of the apartment.
Stepping out, Terra was immediately overwhelmed; it was 5 stories tall! "We're on the second floor, love." Her mom explained, taking their luggage out of the trunk. She threw her daughter the keys, "We only have 1 key for now, but we'll get a copy before school." She smiled, patting her Terra's shoulder, "Alright, you ready?"
"...No." Terra groaned, but its not like she had a choice.
There new apartment was way larger then Terra expected, living room and kitchen was double the size from their previous beach house. The hole living had a window wall, over seeing their neighbor hood. Her mom wasn't kidding about her room being bigger, before, Terra could only squeeze in so much stuff in that bedroom, posters covered every inch of the halls, now it seemed like she didn't have enough stuff to fill in the empty space.
While her mom was talking with the movers, as they started loading in the boxes, Terra took her boxes into her new room. She started getting ideas on where her bed and shelves should go, as she organized all her little items. She unzipped the case over her surfboard and propped it up against the wall, "I'm gonna need a hanger now," She frowned, but she did like having her beautiful board in her room, now she had a focal point to her surf trophies.
The rest of the day went by fast, the movers unboxed and rebuild all their large furniture, which again was not a lot making the apartment look bare. Their first night they decided to be lazy and just order pizza. "Mmm, that's good pizza!" Her mom smiled, her mouth full, "The reviews weren't lying." She tried to start small talk with her daughter, in hopes to lighten her mood on their busy day. It wasn't working, Terra just sat quietly eating pizza. She frowned, and changed tactics, "So, school starts this Monday, how about we go shopping? Get you some new cloths?"
"I like what I already have..."
"Well... you still need school supplies, but we can get those while were out. How about we get to know our new home?"
Terra glanced up at her mom, her smile and clam voice was a sign that she was trying. Terra frowned, whether she liked it or not, this was reality now, no going back, and with a new home and new job she didn't want to stress her mom out more, "Sure, it... sounds fun mom.
It was, for the most part. They both had a mother/daughter shopping date, checking out the local stores and restaurants, though Terra started to feel low when she found out none of her favorite shops were in the city, not like that was a surprise, most of them were surf-shops. But there were a few skate stores which helped. Her mom bought her all the necessities she needed for school, but she also let her daughter buy some new shoes and beanies.
But once the day was over, the true nightmare began for Terra; being the new girl.
Since it was her first day and though school was in walking distance, her mom decided to drive her, "Ok, you have everything?" Terra silently nodded, "You have your lunch?" Nodded again, "You have your own house key with you?" Terra reached into her backpack and pulled out the key clipped to a lanyard, "Good girl. I spoke to the principal, He'll show you around." Her daughter was still silent, which made her frown. But once they pulled in front of the school, her mom leaned over and gave her daughter a raspberry on the cheek.
"GAUH- MOM?! What the hell?!" Terra yelped, her face now bright head, luckily they were early so no one saw that.
She snickered, "Well you looked so cute pouting I couldn't resist. She then smiled, "I love you Terra, and you know I am 1 phone call away for picking you up."
Terra blinked, "Really?"
"Just this once, and whenever you're sick." Her mom leaned in again and kissed her on the forehead, "Love you sweetie, try to make friends, ok?"
Terra leaned into her mom's touch, "Ok, I'll try..."
"That's my brave girl!" One last quick hug, Terra stepped out of the car and walked up the stairs, her mom waited until she was inside before driving to work.
Terra squeezed her backpack straps, readjusting it on her back, she took a quick glace around before a man walked towards her with a kind smile, "Miss Parker?"
"Uh, yes?" Terra gulp, already feeling anxious.
"I'm Principal Turner, I'd like to say on behave of the staff, we're happy to have you."
"T-Thank you..."
"Well, how about I show you around?" Terra kept quite the hole tour, she was shown the classrooms, the gym, lunchroom, restrooms and her locker, nothing very interesting but that was a good things for the new girl, "Well, that's Roosevelt for ya." Turner chuckled, though he could tell Terra was feeling nervous, "Don't worry Miss Parker, the first few days of a new school are always the hardest, just give it time."
"Thank you, sir." Terra gave him a head nod. That's when the doors opened and students started flooding in. The principal headed back to his office leaving Terra next to her locker. She let out a big sigh and quickly turn her back to the hall, burying her head in her locker. Already, she could hear some students whispering about the 'new girl' that was obviously her. Her anxiety was building up again, and she felt her cheeks turning red.
Suddenly, the locker next to her opened, taking a quick glance, she saw a redheaded girl, that looked the same age as her. Terra remembered her mom's wise words, "try to make friends." I gotta be the one to make the first move. Terra told herself, and this girl seemed cool, she liked her style in clothes. Taking a deep breath, hyping herself up, she pulled away from her locker, "U-Um hi, I'm-"
The girl didn't get a chance to acknowledge her when she suddenly fell to the floor. Terra held her breath, as she stared wide eye at the girl on the ground, she then spotted a hockey-puck next to her head. The redhead groaned, before noticing the puck, "Are you serious?"
Ok... that was random. Terra thought, frozen in place like a deer in the headlights, but maybe this chance wasn't completely gone! She was about to get on her knees and ask if she was ok, when the person who lunched the honkey-puck walked over.
"Nice job stopping my puck like that." The two girls looked up to see a tall scrawny guy. He had black hair, a bandana and his clothes looking like they haven't been washed in a week. He smirked down at girl on the floor, completely ignoring Terra, "You got some moves, red." He smirked acting cool.
The girl frowned picking herself and her books up, "Umm, you could start with "sorry"."
"Sorry you got in the way! What were you doing blocking the hallway like that anyway?" He asked, skating around her, pushing the puck with his hockey stick.
The redhead scoffed, "Blocking the... exactly who do you think you are?"
Terra frowned, So this is what if feels like to be a wallflower. It was very clear that neither of them had even acknowledge that she was practically in their bubble. And seeing that the guy was pressuring the girl to tutor him or he'll be kicked off the team, it seemed like her first attempt to make friends was a bust. Sighing out, she grabbed her books and closed her locker, right on cue the bell rang.
But as she walked down the hallway she heard the guy hit the puck again, it bounced off the water-fountain and was flying to the back of her head! But suddenly, like a six-sense went off, Terra quickly turned around and caught the puck in her hand. Holding her breath, she stared in shock as she managed to catch it inches away from her face. Her hand was stinging from the pain. Both the guy and girl looked in shock, now she was the center of their attention.
The guy let out a whistle, "Wow, sick reflexes!" He grinned walked up to her, "What's your name, new girl?" He winked.
Terra felt a vein on her forehead, so this guy almost took her out and was now trying to flirt with her?! "Are you insane?!" Her outburst made him back up, "The hell is wrong with you?! What kind of idiot plays freakin' hockey in the hallway?!" Her cheeks were red with anger.
"Jeez, chill blondie." He held his hands up in defense. The redhead came over as well, They both took in Terra's appearances; fair-skin with a bandage on her right cheek, beach-blonde chest long hair and deep green eyes that were glaring daggers at him. She wore a baggy white hoodie crop-top that had a faded design of a blue and orange sunset/ocean, with blue, coral, and orange strips on the bottom sleeves. Sun-bleached ripped jeans, black slip-on sneakers and a navy blue slouchy beanie.
"Are all girls from the coast hot-headed like you?"
Terra scoffed, two can play at that game, "Are all city boys numbskulls like you?"
He narrowed his eyes, and got back in her face, "What's your deal?"
Terra smashed her forehead against his, "My deal is, I don't want to die on my first day of school!"
Finally the redhead stepped between them, "Ok, ok that enough!" The two kept glaring, "Are you ok?" She asked getting in front of Terra, she noticed her hand was red and twitching.
"Yeah, peachy..." Terra muttered, not breaking eye contact with the numbskull.
"Hey, you gonna give me back my puck back or what?" The guy asked, reaching to grab it, but Terra pulled her arm far back.
"Am I gonna get an apology?"
"Hey, who about we start off with names!" The redhead spoke up, suddenly having to be the peace keeper, "My name is April O'Neil."
Terra took a quick glance at the two, "Terra Parker."
The guy rolled his eyes, "Casey Jones." He kept his hand out expecting Terra to give it to him without a simple "sorry" and "thank you".
Terra's frown deepened, "Ok then Casey Jones, fetch!" Quickly spinning around, she threw the puck down the hallway, it bounced off of a locker and flew down to the right.
"HEY!" Casey shouted, but he didn't have time argue again, they all didn't for they were the last ones in the hallway. Casey ran down the hall to catch his puck, leaving the two girls to walk to class.
"Jackass." Terra muttered, shaking her red hand, trying to stop the stinging.
April frowned as she watched the new girl walk off, "H-Hey, I'm really sorry about that." She apologized walking with her. Terra kept kept silent, clearly still pissed off. April looked down at her hand again, "That looks really bad, do you want me to take you to the nurses office?"
Terra sighed, she was trying to be nice, and remembering what her goal was 'making new friends' she calmed herself down. Lifting her hand up, she squeezed it, the pain was still there but not as bad as before, "Na' it's cool, a sting from a jellyfish is way worse." the shock on April's face made her smirk.
"You've been stung by a jellyfish?!" Terra laughed out, feeling much better.
introduction was as awkward as expected, That sudden anger drive was completely gone, and the nervous anxiety girl was back. Thank god Casey wasn't in the class to witness it, "Ok, in case anyone hasn't heard already, we have a new student." The teacher spoke up, then ushered Terra who was standing at the door to show herself.
Terra swallowed her nerves and stood in front of the class, "My name is Terra Parker, it's nice to meet all of you." immediately, hands went up and the group started a quick Q & A.
"Where are you from?" - "California."
"How old are you?" - "Same age as everyone."
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
Terra groaned, this was stupid, she was in high school not elementary school, "No, and I'm not looking for one." She wanted this to be over, before she could stop herself she asked, "Anymore stupid questions?" That got a few laughs, but a lot of gossip, as the students started to whisper around. Terra took notice of April and saw her give a sympathy frown.
The teacher quieted everyone down, and Terra walked to her seat acting unfazed, when in reality she was cursing herself for being a smart mouth, yet again. She drowned out the rest of the day, mostly looking out the window, I just want this to be over...
Once the final bell rang, Terra quickly grabbed her backpack and exited the school. Wanting nothing more then to be alone and far away from the school, she pulled out her skateboard from her bag, and up in her earbuds. But as she was stepping on she heard someone calling to her from behind.
"Hey Terra!" The blonde turned around to see April rushing over, Terre pulled out one earbud to listen, "Hey- I was wondering," she paused once she noticed her skateboard, Terra noticed the hurt in April's eyes. The redhead cleared her throat, "You, skateboard?"
Terra glanced down at it, "It's one of the few sports I didn't have to give when I moved."
O-Oh, I see..." Terra raised her brow, not understanding why April was suddenly triggered.
"Umm, I can put it away." Terra offered popping the board up.
"N-No! It's ok!" April blurted out, her cheeks turning red, "Sorry, I just... knew someone who also skateboarded." She looked to the side, tucking her hair back.
The word 'knew' painted a image in Terra's mind, "I'm assuming you're not on speaking terms with this person anymore?" April gave a slight nod, "Hey, I get it. It's not my place ask. But if the board is triggering, I'll put it away." She raised her hand in apologize.
"It's ok, it's not a big deal." They stood their awkwardly for a minute, unsure who should speak first or how to pick up after that conversation.
Finally Terra cleared her throat, "Well... uh - I should get-"
"Do you want to hang out?" April suddenly blurted out, throwing the blonde off.
Terra blinked, unsure of what to do. Both her negatives and positives were colliding. She did want to hang out, deep down she wanted to achieve her goal and make friends. But at the same time, she was thinking this is what her mom wanted, plus she barley knew this girl! What if it was just a sick joke to play on her? She was the girl form the coast, a long away from home, she didn't know New York too well. unfortunately in the end her nerves got the better of her.
"Sorry, I can't..." Terra pulled her beanie down, looking down to the side. She saw April's shoulders drop, and the hope in her eyes shattered. She bit her lip, "Maybe... some other time?"
"O-Oh - that's ok." April took a step back. Her cheeks blushed from embarrassment, "Yeah, another time. It was - it was nice meeting you." She looked back and smiled.
"Yeah, same to you." And with that Terra skated off, leaving her possible chance of a friend behind.
Terra spent the rest of the day in her room, "God, why did I do that!" She cursed at herself. There were still a lot of stuff for her to unpack so she kept herself busy, "Why did I have to be cocky like that?! Now I'm gonna be the weirdo surfer girl that everyone stays away from!"
'But isn't that what you wanted?' The voice inside of her head asked, 'You didn't want to move in the first place. You don't want to make connections, who want to go back to the California, to the ocean, the beach house, where all your friends and family are. Now your miles away from them... Miles away from him...'
Terra gasped, pulling herself back to reality. She glanced down at the box she was sorting, it was filled with keepsakes, birthday cards and photos or her friends. Tears squinted in her eyes, she viciously pushed the box away, "I hate it here... It's not fair..."
"Terra, I'm home!" Her mom's voice pulled her attention. Sighing, Terra stood up and walked out. Her mom set grocery bags on the dinner table, smiling when she saw her daughter, "Hey sweetie, how was the first day at school?"
"It was great." Terra snarked sarcastically, crossing her arms she leaned against the door frame, "Almost died from a hokey puck, played 21 questions, and I avoided everyone for the rest of the day."
Her mom blinked, having a moment to prosses the news, "Well, uhh... at least it wasn't boring?"
"Seriously?!" Terra yelled, pushing off the wall, "That's all you can say?! It was hell mom! I hated every second of it!"
Her mom sighed, "Terra, it's just the first day, it will get better-"
"No it won't! You don't get it! How could you possible understand? Ms. "I got a promotion and dragged my daughter across America"!"
That's when her mom frowned, "Terra, I know this change is hard, for me as well-"
"No YOU don't understand! Everything was great, but then you had to go and change everything!" Terra cried, not caring if tears were falling down her eyes, "I want to go home!" She couldn't take it anymore, grabbing her skateboard at the front door, she ran out. Her mom watched, unable to reassure her daughter, she sighed and rested down on the table chair.
Terra skated as fast as she could, not caring where she was going, I hate it here, I hate it here, I hate it here! She cried over and over. Night quickly covered the sky, it was clear showing off thousands of stars, street lamps started turning on, lighting the sidewalk for the skater girl.
She skated for a good 10 minutes, before her anxiety attack finally crashed. Coming to a halt, her wheels marking the pavement. Terra leaned forward, resting her hands on her knees, panting, "Why are you so stupid..?" She asked herself, shutting her eyes, sweat and tears fell from her face.
Taking a moment to breath, before she stood back up, looking around to see where she now was, "Crap..." Spinning around. But as she looked to the left something caught her eye, something that looked very familiar. Terra's eyes slowly widened, and for the first time, she felt a little happy. For across the street, was a skate park.
Looking both ways she quickly skated across the street, and stood in the middle of the park. Her smile got bigger, "This was here? The hole time?" That feeling of being home slowly came back, and while it was no cliff over the ocean, this could be her 'new' special spot. And right now, the place was all hers!
The next half hour she spent doing varial heelflips, 540 redeo flip and inverts. Terra sighed happily, leaning her back on the top of a ramp. Dopamine was pumping in her brain, she was giddy, her cheeks flush from the workout. She stared up at the nigh sky, earbuds bopping her head to the beat of her song.
Another emotional sad song, that's all she could really listen to at the moment. Because she knew, even though she found this little gem of a hideaway, eventually she would have to go back to that apartment, back to that school, back to that life she didn't want.
Terra frowned, lifting her phone over her head, she opened her photo's app and started going through them. Surf competitions, friends birthday parties, that one time she snuck out and went night surfing. All happy memories. Until she swiped again, and stopped at a photo of her dad. The middle-age man had a thick bushy drown beard, wavy hair, and kind green eyes. He was wearing a wetsuit on top of his surfboard in the water, and sitting with him in front was 8 year old Terra in her little wetsuit, both of them were smiling doing the shaka sign.
Terra hugged her phone to her chest, more tears came back, this time much stronger, "I miss you, daddy..." She hated what she said to her mom and how she acted like a brat. She knew how hard working her mom was, and that she was doing all this for the both of them, "I just, can't let my past go. But... I'm not giving this new life a chance..." The thought of April's offer came back. Sighing out, Terra sat up and slapped her cheeks, waking up, "Ok, tomorrow!" She vowed.
But as she was getting ready to head some, up in the sky on the buildings rooftops she saw something flying around, "What the-?" She squinted trying to see what it was, it looked like a person? Suddenly she heard a loud,
"BOOYAKASHA!"
