A/N
Okay, I usually do not do fanfiction humanizing villains, but my headcanon of HTTYD3 forced me to do it itself as I myself changed view on the real world.
I know, you now ask me why: Why to humanize Drago when he after all not only started a war, committed a genocide and almost killed everyone out of Hiccup's ancestry in my headcanon.
The reply is simple: Look at his backstory, events of HTTYD2 and put 2 and 2 together.
There is definitely the real villain of the franchise we haven't seen on the screen who stands behind everything. Madmans with tragic backstory or groups like the Northern Alliance or definitely Warlods from HTTYD3 themselves are nothing, but just puppets.
The sad thing is that this theory/headcanon shows pretty much the world we live in and I'm writing this as someone who had woken up.
You can take this story as enhancing my headcanon with the true villain, but also as a sad image of how this world works, yet we are barely able to change it without getting crushed up.
Things went according to plan, dividing the people of the North thrived. No, the real puppeteer of those events was none of the well-known leaders here.
Even so organizations like the Northern Alliance: It were all just puppets in the perverted game of the unknown elitist.
He was responsible for all the wars and genocides that happened here, the dragons in his little finger a long time ago.
Everything went according to plan. It was clear that perhaps decades or even hundreds of years would pass before the results of his efforts will be truly visible.
Looking at the map of Archipelago with its current events marked, he laughed: War between Drago's army and upcoming Berk's new Chief Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. was in the full swing.
Perhaps the two men in question were equal in intelligence, but they were still stupid enough to not realize that they were just figurines in someone's game.
In game when none of them had an actual chance of surviving if they realized what's going on.
The so-called true god knew all about them both. One of them was even his creation.
Destroying that old man's village when he was a boy was fun for that God's-chosen man. Even more fun, but it was to kill his family, rip his arm off, and then watch for years as the victim became an easy-going figurine thinking he would rule the world on his own terms.
The other one was... eh.. Basically the alter ego of the first one.
The young man naively (perhaps otherwise traumatized by war) believed he could stop the war while still dreaming of a world full of love, peace and flowers.
The trauma that got him to this unreasonable attitude made him extremely vulnerable and easily manipulatible, and that suited the puppeteer here.
When the same boy was 18, it was known that he was a nationalist, and that it was the trauma of the events behind which the puppeteer had stood here that had gotten him to these fantasies, so that he could be controlled by him more easily without knowing.
"Any news from that island? It's fun to see both my figures trying to kill each other."
He added still with a bit of laughing, watching the map.
"Not yet. It takes time for the message to arrive."
The unknown man- the puppeteer then started talking about his plans for the future for these 2.
"If they both make it, I want there to be a war. I want one of them not only to start the war, but to cause genocide. I want this boy to become exactly what I invested my time with the old man in back then. I want him to see members of his family die, I want him to suffer, I want him to experience horror and carnage of the greatest calibre." He said waving his hands "I want to make him the next would-be dictator in the collection and then use him to try to destroy this part of Europe."
The servant tried to ignore it. From his master's point of view, he was inferior (not even a man, but an animal who must serve his master), and he hated this talk of future massacres and people chosen by God.
"Why don't you ever want to help benefit? Why do these massacres keep happening? Hell, the kid's only 20, and as you know, he's got a girl he cares about. Do you really think that's fair and this early to this poor boy?"
His master started standing up continued explaining with a cold voice:
"That's part of the game. They're too stupid to realize their origins and try to do something. That's what I'm here for, to guide them as the shepherd of my flock."
"B-But w-why? I still do not see any meaning in all of this happening."
The puppeteer looked into eyes of his servant and said with a cold voice:
"After all, we are God's chosen people."
