A/N: Hey there. I'll be around to post more stories as I can. I'm pretty much doing this to keep me happy and active while I work on trying to publish a book and get a place of my own to live during the holidays. Woo for me.
OOOOOOOOOOO
David took a drag on his cigarette, bored with his surroundings as he walked the boardwalk. The same boardwalk that he'd walked several hundred times before. Each night was the same. The people. The hunt. The kill.
His nose twitched as he scented something peculiar.
A scent that he couldn't describe, except as unusually desirable.
Where? David thought, scanning the crowd with ice blue eyes that saw everything.
A group of tourists moved out of the way and he saw a girl with burgundy hair, standing by the pier, looking out at the ocean. He stopped moving and stared at her, caught off guard.
There was a simple beauty to her, but something told me that there was actually more lying beneath. She brushed back her hair and he smirked at the cheap little panda studs in her ears. Her clothes were simple – black shirt with some superhero on it and jeans that hugged a very firm looking ass and powerful thighs. David saw the choker around her neck and the little bell that dangled from it.
Aw…is she a kitty that we get to play with?
Can we play with this one, Davie?
Cool it, guys.
David brushed his brothers' voices aside as if they were nothing and turned his attention back to the girl standing before him. Her cell phone buzzed, but she didn't pick it up.
Odd…girls her age always answer their phones the moment that it makes a noise.
The girl seemed to grow tired of looking out at the ocean and turned away, heading into the crowd. David followed her slowly, fascinated about what she would do.
"Mom and Dad said, don't waste your money on stupid trinkets while you're here," the girl muttered to herself as she wandered into the shopping district of the boardwalk. "Well, fuck them. I'm going to buy some things for myself. Because what kind of sane person leaves a vacation without buying something to take home with them?"
So…she talks to herself…David thought, smirking. Well, that could be fun.
David watched as she wandered from booth to booth, looking at various things and saw her eyes sparkle with life until she saw the prices. She pouted and moved on as if she hadn't seen the items that she'd been looking at.
Intrigued, David peered at some of the items and rolled his eyes. How could 15 to 30 dollars be too much for her? That's pocket change for a tourist. His eyes narrowed. Unless she doesn't have control over her own money…
The burgundy haired girl stopped at a jewelry booth and ran her fingers over some chains, making them swing and shine in the dim light overhead. A soft smile graced her lips and David felt his heart quiver at the sight of it. Her eyes turned away from the chains and turned towards the chokers with matching earrings.
That one. Pick that one, David thought, eyeing a leather studded choker with earrings so similar to his.
The girl's hand lifted to the choker like she was thinking about touching it, claiming it as her own. But she lowered her hand and plucked up a velvet one with a knife dangling from it. David blinked in surprise.
A human had resisted his ability to control her mind?! How could that be? This sort of thing had never happened before and certainly not to a vampire as powerful as David.
No, David thought, narrowing his eyes as he stood nearby. You want the leather one.
The girl moved over to the counter and paid for the choker, receiving a tiny little bag to hold it in. An uncertain smile was on her face as she turned away from the booth and her eyes – tri-colored, he noticed, for the first time that night – scanned the crowd as if searching for something. David felt her gaze pass over him like he wasn't even there and that was exactly what he wanted.
She sighed and adjusted the strap of her backpack purse before continuing on her way. David followed her as she "toured" stores more than she shopped from them. He frowned when he noticed her pause outside Video Max and already knew his Boys were ready to step in if necessary.
"Probably some cheesy old rental place," the girl muttered, turning away. "Full of B rated horror films and stupid shit. Not my thing." Her attention was caught by something else. "Oh no."
David followed the girl's stare and saw two little homeless children rifling through the trash nearby. He made a face at their haggard appearance, but the girl didn't seem to see that. She rifled through her purse and approached them.
What in the hell is she doing, Davie?
Tell me she isn't giving Dinner something.
Guys, just shut up.
The burgundy haired girl walked over to the two homeless children and held out two twenties. "Here," she said gently. "Get yourself something to eat and I don't know. Ride some rides? Play some games? Have fun."
The kids looked at her in surprise and the older one snatched the twenties out of her hand like he was afraid that she was going to take them back. David would have. In fact, he was tempted to barge over there and take the money from those punks and take that girl away and teach her a thing about the world.
You mean teach her a thing about your bed, eh Davie?
The old d from the D.
SHUT UP!
David growled and forced his brothers' voices away from his mind. His ice blue eyes tracked the girl as she walked away from the homeless kids with a small smile on her face. David sent them a withering look that got them running away and then followed after the girl.
She has a heart…she has taste…she's beautiful…Boys, we're going to be seeing this girl around a lot more…
OOOOOOOOOOO
David sat on the girl's balcony as she entered her hotel room, just out of sight. He'd tracked her here, oh so easily. She let out a cry of surprise when she flipped on the lights and saw the bags on her bed. He smirked, knowing what was in the bags and flipped backwards off the balcony.
It was hunting time.
But he would be back to see the girl.
Because now that he had laid his eyes on her…she was one of them.
OOOOOOOOOOO
A/N: There's a lot going on with me right now, so I'm feeling a bit grr. I want to kick the world in the balls at the moment and pull my hair out. But I'll be fine. At least this year is almost over. Woo. -Scarlet
