You're Not A Burden, But A Blessing

"I can't figure out what's wrong with Katie," Jazz said. "She hasn't smiled all day."

"We noticed that when we arrived today," Thundercracker said, looking worried.

"Could she have had a bad day at school?" Skywarp asked.

"No, all was good at school," Ironhide said.

"I've never seen Katie looking so depressed before," Astrotrain said.

The Aerialbots bots all nodded. "It's worrying even us too," Silverbolt said.

"Katie actually turned down a chance to go flying and that's not like her," Fireflight said.

"Even Rachel was worried," Slingshot said. "She didn't want to go flying without her sister."

Air Raid nodded. "Did Katie maybe have a bad scare and it involved flying?" He asked.

"Not since that one time we helped both her and Rachel not to be afraid of flying," Skydive pointed out.

"He's right," Prowl said. "The girls have been fine, but Katie seemed to wake up today in a sad mood."

"Could she have had a nightmare?" Moonracer asked.

"No, or she would have told me and Optimus," Elita said.

"And you're sure she hasn't said anything about someone bothering her or hurting her?" Firestar asked.

"I've double checked and nothing," Inferno said.

"So have I," Red Alert said, looking worried. "What could be bothering her?"

"Maybe a test at school didn't go well? Or an art project didn't work out?" Wheeljack suggested.

"No, she got an A on her math and spelling tests last week," Ratchet said.

"And she got an A on her art project of the Milky Way galaxy," Skyfire said.

"And we helped her get ready for those tests and Skyfire assisted her with getting her project set up," Ultra Magnus said.

"Okay, so then if nothing bad has happened, then why is she so depressed?" Chromia asked, at a loss as to why her little sister/goddaughter was so upset.

Ironhide looked at the Protectobots, who shook their heads. "She won't tell us," Hot Spot said.

"We tried to coax her into telling us, but she refused," First Aid said.

"We didn't want to seem like we were being overbearing and risk her not wanting to be around us, so we let her be," Streetwise said.

"But we have been sending her warmth through the bond," Blades said.

"She's responded to it a little, but we can still feel her sadness," Groove said.

"She still won't say a word?" Elita said.

"No," Hot Spot said. "And like Streetwise said, we didn't want her to think we were hovering over her too much, though we are worried."

It was quiet for a bit before Elita decided to talk to Optimus. Maybe her little girl would talk to the leader of the Bots, since he was her father. She went to her love's office and knocked on the door. "Enter," she heard and went in.

Optimus looked up to see his lovely mate come in and he smiled. "My love," he said, standing up and hugging her. She hugged him back and he sensed her worry. "Is everything alright?"

"I'm afraid not," the rose-colored femme said. "Optimus, Katie has been sad all day and she won't tell anyone why, not even her brothers."

The red-and-blue Autobot looked worried. "She's not upset at anyone, is she?" He asked.

"No, it doesn't seem like it," Elita said. "But we're all worried about her. Earlier, the Protectobots tried tickling her and she didn't even smile and you know how much she loves getting tickled by her brothers."

Optimus was now very worried. "No one's had luck getting her to explain why she's sad?" He asked.

"No," the femme said. "We've ruled out bullies and other problems, so we can't understand what happened that Katie is so upset. Everyone is worried about her."

He nodded. "I'll go talk to her," he said. "Maybe it's something that's been bothering her for a long time, longer than today."

Elita looked at him gratefully. "Will you, my love?" She asked. "I just want my baby girl to be happy again."

Optimus nodded and kissed his mate. "Don't worry, my love," he said. "I'll get to the bottom of this."

With that, he headed down the hallway to Katie's room, finding her under the blanket crying and hugging her wolf plush, Blizzard. "Katie?" He asked, going up to her and turning on his holoform, sitting beside her on the bed. "Sweetspark, what's wrong?"

"N-Nothing, Daddy," she whimpered out, hugging her stuffed animal closer.

He shook his head. "Katie, I know something's bothering you and I'm not leaving until you tell me what it is," he said. "You have everyone worried about you, honey. Please, tell me what's wrong."

The little girl was quiet for a bit and felt her father rub her back to help her calm down before she began speaking. "I...I feel like I'm a burden to everyone," she said, to his shock. "A lot of bad stuff happened and I feel I keep getting in everyone's way and that I don't deserve to have you guys as a family or anything."

Optimus went rigid and he looked at her. "WHY WOULD YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!" He asked in horror, almost shouting the roof off and surprising the child, who looked at him in shock before she was pulled into a bone-crushing hug by her father. "Katie, sweetspark, you are not a burden. Don't ever think that way about yourself again."

"B-But, a lot of bad stuff happened because of me," she protested.

"No, not because of you," he said, hugging her close. "Katie, you are a blessing to me and the others and you are not, nor will you ever be, a burden to any of us."

The little girl sniffled and hugged her father, feeling warmth from the bond she shared with him. "You promise, Daddy?" She asked.

"I promise, sweetspark," he said before picking her up and carrying her to the others.

When they heard what Katie had been feeling, they at once hugged her, reassuring her that they saw her as a blessing and never a burden. "You're the best thing that ever happened to us, kiddo," Hot Spot said.

"And to us and the other 'Cons that love you," Thundercracker said.

"You've shown us how much of a blessing it is to know you, sweetspark," Skywarp said.

"I agree with them," Astrotrain said.

"We've told you many times that you're not a burden to us, little sister," Blades said.

"You're one of the best things we could have ever asked for in our lives," Silverbolt said.

Rachel, who was nearby, smiled as she saw this, grateful to their Autobot family for helping her sister. She then looked up and smiled at seeing Skyfire behind her and he smiled at her before picking her up and they joined in the hugs too.

Katie felt happiness bloom inside her as the warmth of her family surrounded her, proving that she was a blessing to them all.
