This is part of the Holiday Fest Challenge. Just a cute little one-shot.
Baby, Its Cold Outside
"You mean to tell me there are no rooms available?" Mike asked as he looked out the window at the hotel. It was a white-out outside and Mike would not be able to drive to his BOQ.
"No, sir. I'm sorry. You have some people from your party here that are in double rooms. Perhaps they would share?" The poor desk clerk suggested. Mike looked back at the bar and sighed. He had brought everyone from his office out for a Christmas dinner. They were drunk and enjoying. Mike didn't mind them letting off steam. He just didn't need to witness it. He sauntered up to the bar and ordered a whiskey, since he wasn't going to have to drive.
"Staying, sir?" Maddie Rawlings asked. She actually was retiring, but Mike had included her because really liked her a lot. Officially, she was out of the Navy. She had been something of an aide since the sinking of the James.
"Yeah. It's a white-out and so I can't get back to my BOQ. Unfortunately, there are no rooms in the inn." Mike remarked.
"Really? This place is huge." Maddie said. The restaurant was five-star, which was why Mike had selected it. The added bonus was that it had a hotel attached, so there wasn't as much of a need for a designated driver.
"Yeah. She suggested bunking with someone who had a double room. Know anyone?" Mike asked.
"I have one." Maddie answered as she took a drink of her wine.
"I think she probably meant male staff members." Mike clarified, although he was a bit intrigued.
"I suppose I could ask around." Maddie offered.
"Its two beds?" Mike asked.
"Yes, sir. And as you know; I am no longer Navy, so no rules or regulations apply to me anymore." Maddie said.
"I'm aware." Mike said.
"Promise; nothing will happen…unless you want it to." Maddie said with a chuckle. If she only knew what the smile and dimples were doing to him.
"Good. I'm going to get my go-bag out of my truck. Its in the parking garage. Promise to behave yourself until I get back?" Mike asked, knowing that Maddie was pretty well sauced.
"Sure." Maddie slurred. Mike gave her an awkward look before walking away. He knew it would look funny going back to her room, but no rules were going to be broken. She was no longer in the Navy, and Mike would never sleep with a woman that was that drunk. Still, it was Christmas, and he had not been looking forward to being alone. If he did sleep with her, what harm could come of it? No damage to his career or hers. They were consenting adults and there had been an attraction for a while. Mike shook the thoughts off as he grabbed his go-bag; glad he had packed pajama pants and a t-shirt.
Mike paid his and Maddie's tab and discreetly followed her to her room. It was nothing spectacular but it had two beds. Maddie immediately took her heels off and began rustling through her bag; probably to get out of the mini-skirt and sweater. Mike made a point not to look at her back-side, throwing his own bag on the other bed.
"I'm going to get my pajamas on." Maddie said before walking into the bathroom with what looked like flannel pajama pants and a t-shirt. Mike looked around the room and picked up a room-service menu. He had eaten but that was hours before. He was hungry again.
"You hungry? I'm going to order some room service." Mike called into the bathroom. Maddie stuck her head out and nodded.
"I could eat. A big, juicy bacon cheeseburger; no pickles. Onion rings with ranch dressing." Maddie said.
"Yes, ma'am." Mike said.
"I'm going to take a shower. Does it feel cold in here to you?" Maddie asked.
"A little. I'll turn the heat up." Mike told her. A moment later; Mike heard the shower running. He called their food order in and then checked the thermostat. It was only sixty-two inside the room. He turned the heat up, but nothing happened. In fact; the temperature on the thermostat was getting lower. Mike called the front desk and was told that the heater for the entire hotel had malfunctioned and that they couldn't get it fixed until the morning. Because of the blizzard outside; Mike was stuck.
Their food arrived about the same time that Maddie got out of the shower. A porter had arrived with three more blankets and they settled to it. Mike could tell that Maddie was chilled, but was trying not to complain. It was going to be a long and cold night. They ate and Mike took his own shower, which did nothing to warm him up.
"Was the Arctic this cold?" Maddie asked.
"It was thirty below zero so yes, but the thing with it being that cold is that you don't register it as cold until too late. It can sneak up on you, and you end up in trouble. We didn't have a lot of crew on deck up there." Mike answered. Maddie passed him one of the extra blankets and gave him a warm smile.
"I am from Georgia. Never been this cold." Maddie said. Her teeth were chattering and she was rubbing her arms.
"You know…I don't mean anything by this but body heat would help both of us." Mike suggested. He actually did mean something by it, but he wouldn't encourage Maddie to do something she didn't want to…if she did, well; he'd cross that bridge when he came to it.
"I suppose it would." Maddie said.
"And we could share all three extra blankets." Mike continued. Maddie didn't say anything but gestured for him to join her on the other bed. "Seriously, nothing has to happen." Mike said.
"Do you want it to?" Maddie asked.
"Do you?" Mike retorted. He was now sitting next to her on the bed.
"It would warm things up nicely." Maddie remarked with an impish grin. Against Mike's better judgement; he gave Maddie a long and passionate kiss and within just a moment; they were pulling each other's clothes off.
"It's been a long time." Mike remarked, almost ashamed of himself.
"That's okay." Maddie answered as she pulled Mike back on top of her and gave him another kiss. It was all the encouragement Mike needed.
The next morning; Mike heard the heater kick on; but he didn't care. It had been a passion filled night and shockingly; he didn't regret it. Christine was gone. She wasn't coming back and she would have wanted him to be happy. Mike wasn't sure if it was with Maddie; but she was a good start. It was Christmas Eve, and Mike smiled at the woman that was partially sleeping on his chest, with a leg slung over his. She was naked and beautiful and Mike decided to wake her up.
"Merry Christmas." Mike said as he kissed down her neck.
"Its Christmas Eve." Maddie answered, groggily.
"What were your plans for tonight and tomorrow?" Mike asked.
"Nothing. I was hoping this could be continued." Maddie told him.
"I think that can be arranged." Mike agreed. It would make his Christmas a lot lesslonely. Thank God for snowstorms and broken heaters. A moan from Maddie assured Mike that she agreed. It was not a perfect Christmas, but it wasn't terrible either.
