AUTHOR'S NOTE: I wanted to write something with Phil Coulson and this is what resulted. I could not stop thinking about that scene during Avengers after Loki stabbed him.

"When my heart starts to crumble

And the tears start to fall

You hold me close with tender lovin'

And give me strength to carry on

I'll never let you go

You're always on my mind

You're the only one for me

You're all I need

And I'll never, never let you go"

"Aah, faster…ngh!"

A breathless chuckle sounded before the action was complied with. Fingernails dug into broad shoulders, biting crescents into tanned flesh. Phil's back arched straight off of the bed as his love struck a bundle of nerves over and over inside him.

"Kade, I'm—mmhn!" Phil's pleasured cry was muffled by Kade catching the brunette in a kiss.

Tanned hands gripped fair thighs as Kade continued thrusting his hips as Phil's orgasm shocked through his system. Blue eyes blown wide from pleasure; Phil could do nothing more than hang onto the blonde tightly as Kade reached his own completion. A moan tumbled free of kiss-swollen lips, Phil feeling Kade's hot release deep within his trembling walls. Catching himself on his forearms on either side of Phil's head, Kade slowly dropped kiss after kiss along Phil's mouth and jaw even as the two panted for breath.

"You're irresistible," Kade whispered against Phil's ear, gently nipping the brunette's lobe before slanting his mouth over Phil's in an all-consuming kiss that stole what was left of Phil's breath.

Wrapping his arms around Kade's shoulders and tangling his fingers in thick blonde locks, Phil tightening his legs around his love's waist and locked his ankles as to prevent Kade from moving away. Instead of withdrawing, Kade rolled them until he was on his back with Phil straddling him. Their moans muffled by each other's mouths; Phil felt Kade's member twitch inside him. Pulling away to lean up, Phil placed his hands on Kade's chest and slowly began moving his hips. Tanned fingers grabbed onto fair hips; blue eyes locked onto green. Kade reached up and caressed the side of Phil's face and Phil smiled down at him; leaning down to place a kiss to the blonde's lips.

"Oh, how I love you," Kade breathed, hearing Phil's breath hitch at the words.

Phil's blue eyes lit up, it being the first time since they have gotten together a year ago that the words were spoken by one of them. Lacing their fingers together, Phil returned those three words with his entire being.

.:oOo:.

Sharp pain radiated from his chest and Phil knew without looking that it was bad…so very bad. Blood coated his hands from where he had attempted to stem the bleeding from his chest, but he could feel his energy slowly leaving him. With shaky hands, Phil reached into the inside of his coat and pulled out his cellphone. This went against everything he was trained for, but he just wanted…needed to hear Kade's voice just one more time before he died.

Heavy footsteps came towards him and Phil knew it was his boss Nick Fury that knelt down before him. Ignoring the man for the first time in his life, Phil pressed the speed-dial number for the person he loves most in this world, the one he would give up everything for to protect.

"Agent Coulson—," Nick stated only to pause as Phil pressed the speaker option on his phone, his arm unable to hold the phone up to his ear.

He leaned his head back against the metal wall and stared at the hole Loki had been blasted out of.

"Hey, Sweetheart, I'm just about to go on. Is everything okay?"

Phil smiled at the sound of Kade's voice, his blue eyes slowly dimming.

"Kade…," Phil breathed the word, before exhaling for the last time.

Nick's eyes widened and the hardened man felt the corners of his eye prick. Taking the bloodstained phone from Phil's lax grip, Nick ordered medical to do everything they could while stepping back.

"Phil? Phil, answer me!"

Nick swallowed, before ending the speaker option and putting the phone to his ear.

"Hello, this is Director Nicholas Fury," Nick introduced himself solemnly.

The line was quiet for a moment and then the sound of a throat being cleared was heard.

"Kade Sullivan, now will you please tell me if—," Kade's voice broke. "Is Phil alive? Is my husband alive?"

Nick's eye widened at that tiny bit of information, glancing down at where the medical team was currently shocking Phil's body in order to get a heartbeat going. Phil told him everything, or at least Nick believed he did. How did Phil manage to hide a marriage from him; a relationship? Thinking back, all of the sporadic leave times began to make sense; a day here, a weekend there. Phil never took the same days off and was never gone for more than two days at a time, but he would always come back so happy. Nick heard the sound of pain from the other end of the line and knew he had been quiet for too long. A beep came from the heart machine, the medical team speaking of a heartbeat and emergency transport.

"He's been hurt, but medical is doing everything they can. Tell me where you are and I'll do my best to get you to him," Nick spoke the words before he realized what he was saying, his thoughts centered around the man who had been by his side since the beginning; who was one of the most loyal individuals he knew.

Information was passed and Nick ended the call, slipping Phil's bloodied cellphone into his coat pocket before pressing the commlink in his ear.

"Agent Coulson is down." Nick stated into his commlink for all on board to hear.

"The medical team is on their way to your location," Someone answered him, but as he stared at Phil's heart monitor, be knew what he had to do.

"They're already here," Nick took a moment to let what he was about to do sink in. "They called it."

It was high time Phil got a vacation, something longer than a couple of days. He had someone waiting for him at home after all and Nick could think of no better place for his friend to recover than in the presence of a loved one.

.:oOo:.

Phil groaned in pain, the discomfort heavy in his chest and consciousness slowly returned to him. A hand caressed the side of his face and a warm pressure touched his lips.

"Phil."

At the whisper of his name, blue eyes unfocused from pain and medication slowly opened to see relief reflected in tired green eyes. Phil tried to speak, but all he could manage was the silent forming of Kade's name. The blonde smiled and another kiss was lightly pressed against Phil's cracked lips. Phil's fingers twitched and he realized the warmth surrounding that one hand was another clutching his. He squeezed that hand back and a broken laugh escaped Kade, who rested his face against Phil's temple.

"Welcome back."

Phil's eyes darted to the room's entrance to see his boss standing in casual wear, the man's arms crossed over his chest and his one good eye locked on him. Nick nodded his head and Phil felt a tension he had not realized had set in lift from him. Kade leaned back and ran a hand over brunette locks that had grown a little since Phil's attack.

"You've been in a medically induced coma for three weeks," Nick explained calmly as Kade grabbed a cup of water with a straw for Phil to wet his parched throat. "The situation with New York has been taken care of and you will be on medical leave for the foreseeable future."

Phil's lips parted, but Kade got the brunette's attention before Phil could say anything.

"I'm taking you home as soon as the doctors give you the all clear. Phil…," Kade trailed off, his hand going back to holding Phil's. "…don't even think about rushing your recovery."

Phil could only nod his head, seeing the seriousness of Kade's words in his green eyes.

"I'll leave you to it, Mr. Sullivan. I know Coulson is in good hands. You have my number if you need anything," Nick stated as he got ready to leave the room. "Oh, and Phil? Congratulations."

"Thanks, Boss," Phil finally spoke, his voice hoarse from disuse.

As Nick left the room, Phil looked up at Kade.

"You called me," Kade whispered, afraid that if he spoke any louder, he would be unable to get any words out at all.

"I needed to hear your voice," Phil admitted quietly, feeling himself getting choked up. "I'm sorry I ruined your night."

"Don't," Kade voiced, his tone stronger. "You didn't ruin anything, Phil."

"But the concert—."

"Doesn't come before you, Phil. I love you," Kade told him. "Anytime you need me, I'm here for you."

"How did I luck out with you?" Phil wondered, the love he felt for the man reflecting in his eyes. "I love you too."

Kade smiled, the action mirrored on Phil's lips.

"So, your boss…," Kade said. "He's a little intense."

Phil chuckled, his smile widening.
