A/N: Tommy/Kim Christmas story, mixed with the Once a Ranger episode. One-shot. Thrax thinks he can ruin Tommy's Christmas...needless to say, his plan backfires horribly. Thanks to a Crane.

"OK, class," Dr. Thomas Oliver said to his advanced level paleontology class, "this is your final before the holidays. My assistant will be handing them out shortly. You have until the final bell. As with everything, she will be watching closely to see if anyone is pulling chicanery."
"And as usual, if you are, you will fail the final," his assistant said. "Is that understood?"
Everyone nodded, although there were some groans.
That was to be expected, Dr. Oliver thought. Every year in the teaching business was an absolute grind; it was a good thing he had Anton Mercer's money. The house was still in good shape and even though the lab had a few cobwebs, he and Hayley kept it in good shape.
Oh he knew that as even as these finals were going on, the Operation Overdrive team from San Angeles was in a pickle. Apparently, the ugly offspring of Rita and Zedd had taken their powers.
But not to worry. Adam had called him and said he had been called to duty. By some Sentinel Knight guy. Apparently Kira had been roped into this too, Adam told him. God, imagine what Conner was thinking right about then.
The two were set to elope in summer 2009, and Tommy couldn't blame them. They loved each other for sure, and if they had the chance, Tommy had told them, they should take it.
He knew all too well. He should have never let his Crane get on that plane for Florida.
The Thrax problem would at least surely be solved by destroying Thrax though, and then Tommy could go on with his holiday.
A most likely lonely holiday at that, but he'd still be alive and not the evil Green guy he had been. That was all that mattered, after all.
He admitted he did miss his charges though. Those four had walked with him through good times and bad. Their time in the uniform had certainly made them better people.
Little did he know that what was about to unfold over the next few hours would change his life.
Drastically.
His past was about to come roaring back into his life, in a way he did not expect.
He was also almost about to lose his life. As close as the island and his brush with death in the spirit world. But this time, his fate would be out of his hands.
2:40 p.m. local time
San Angeles, CA
The son of Rita and Zedd had come so close to destroying one of Zordon's oldest Rangers. It would have been a real nice trophy.
But of course, that meddling Sentinel Knight had interfered right as Thrax was about to destroy Adam.
"It ends here, Thrax," the Knight had said. And as much as Thrax raged inside, he knew it was true.
Besides, he almost hoped he would be gone. Because he had a failsafe plan in case he lost. A plan that would not only ruin Christmas for the Rangers, but would beat them, and in particular that accursed Dr. Oliver, once and for all.
In his final moments, he remembered being on M-51 and how this plan all got started. He had been talking with his great aunt, Dischordia, about what would happen if he lost.
Flashback
"You know you need a failsafe plan, right?" Dischordia said. "Don't make the same mistake I did in underestimating those Ranger rats."
"She's right, Thrax," Rito, who Thrax had revived years ago, said. "Those power dweebs always got the last laugh in the end."
"Their leader is…Tommy Oliver, right?" Thrax said. "The guy every villain across the galaxy complains about right? And who my traitor of a grandmother, Fienna, praises to no end right?"
"Yeah, that's the guy," Dischordia said. "I actually should have had him in my power years ago. The guy is a resilient SOB."
"He's vulnerable though. He's without his soulmate still to my understanding, which means he could be ripe for the picking right now," Rito said.
"I've got it. Thrax, come here, please," Dischordia said.
"Brilliant idea," Thrax said as he got a look at what Dischordia was pointing him to.
Tommy's Jeep.
"I will create the Jeepers monster from his Jeep in case I lose," Thrax said, "which will be activated the second Dr. Oliver starts driving his Jeep should I lose. And unlike my parents monster, the Crabby Cabbie, this monster will rule the roadways of Reefside, and the world."
"And how do you know that little bitch Hayley won't know how to do anything?" Rito said.
"His little walking geek Hayley is a pest but she is a non factor. Because there isn't a molecular scrambler out there that can stop this monster," Thrax said. "Only the power of Ninjetti could stop him and those are long gone."
End Flashback
Sure enough, the Sentinel Knight was able to overpower Thrax using his Power Kick attack.
What none of the Rangers noticed was the streak of lightning that emanated from Thrax's destruction and shot towards Reefside.
As he prepared to go back to Tanya, and thanked the Overdrive team and his fellow retro Rangers, Adam had a feeling Thrax had been destroyed a bit too easily.
And he was right again.
Residential Reefside, CA
Kimberly Ann Hart was never more glad that she had taken an old friend's advice and started her winter vacation from her law firm one day early.
She had made it to Pan Globals in the 1990s, but hadn't made it any further. In fact, that was the last time she had ever competed in gymnastics. She found out she had an injury that essentially ended her gymnastics career. So now she had to find something else.
In college, at Miami, she had run into a friend who advised her that she should consider a law degree. She at one point thought it ludicrous, but she decided to move back to California and give it a try after graduating from Miami.
That was the end of "the boyfriend after Tommy." The guy, Chris, was nice, but he was from Miami through and through and wanted to stay home. Kim wanted to go back West.
That decision, law school in California, was the best decision she ever made. She went to Cal-Berkeley School of Law and eventually ended up in Los Angeles at one of the major firms.
She had gone looking for good communities to settle down in. She'd settled in Reefside of all places, not knowing her original Handsome lived just outside town until Dino Thunder showed up.
Oh she knew who the Black Ranger was. But she was in town and he was outside of town so there was a good bit of distance between them.
Back to the present day though. She was never more glad she'd taken Ninjor's advice to take the day off and start her winter vacation. Because the second she saw a completely random lightning bolt in the sky, in an area where it rarely did that, she knew trouble was on the way.
The second a familiar blue beam landed in her living room, along with someone else she didn't recognize, her dog barked.
"Brennan, stop it!" she scolded her dog. Immediately the dog stopped barking, and Ninjor and his companion looked at each other.
"Now that's a good dog," Ninjor commented.
"Thanks, Ninjor. Who's your friend?" Kim asked. The answer would come as a big surprise to her.
"That's my friend, Lady Fienna," Ninjor said. "Rita Repulsa…Fienna was her mother. Master Vile was her husband. I assure you she is on our side though. She and Zordon were very close."
"Didn't she die or something?" Kim asked.
"Yes, but Zordon's sacrifice ended my husband's evil reign and reversed my fate," Fienna said. "Unfortunately, restoring my position as queen and restoring that galaxy as a democracy is a near impossible task. The galaxy is filled with crime families who would make my life hell. I'm not here to talk about that though."
"We're here to talk about Tommy," Ninjor said. Kim's eyes immediately became laser focused.
"Is this about that lightning bolt?" Kim asked.
"Yes. My grandson, unfortunately, had a failsafe should he be destroyed," Fienna said. "He has turned Tommy's Jeep into a monster which will be activated once he starts driving. It is too late to stop this, Kimberly."
"And him in there. Oh God…" Kim said. "It's Crabby Cabbie all over again…"
"And there is not a molecular scrambler than can free Tommy this time, Kim. Only one power can destroy it and free him, Kimberly," Ninjor said. "Yours."
Kim had never thanked the stars more that she had paid a random visit to Blue Bay Harbor after the Ninja Storm/Dino Thunder teamup.
It was there that she had spent hours reconnecting with her Ninjetti animal spirit through Senseis Watanabe, Omino and the six former Ninja Storm Rangers.
The problem was, obviously, that she wasn't with her other half. And she knew darn well who that was.
That was the guy about to be trapped in his car. How Tommy always wound up in these situations agitated her to no end.
"Which means my entire legacy and perhaps the entire world is on the line again. Lovely," Kim said sarcastically.
"But think about this. You lost everything in a mistake, though you have a good paying job and a really nice house. You have nothing left to lose," Fienna said.
"Fine, but I'm sure I'm gonna get hell when this is overwith," Kim said.
"Thank the heavens I started training again," Kim added. "It's quite likely that I'm getting only one shot at this."

Finally, the day was history. The year was history, at least for Tommy Oliver workwise. The holiday break had now begun.
He had no idea what he was about to step into was something from his nightmares. He thought he saw a bolt of lightning in the sky while the students were taking their finals, but honestly thought nothing of it.
He got in his Jeep, sat down, and turned on the ignition.
That's when the nightmare started. Immediately, the car started to transform. With Tommy stuck inside.
"Jeepers Creepers!" the creature said when the transformation finished. "The Jeepers monster is here to go for a ride and have fun. But beware. It's the last ride you'll ever have. And it's explosive! Hahahaha!"
On its own, the monster took off down the street, firing lasers at random people, scaring them and causing them to run away before they could be fatally hit.
"That was fun. Time to go rock some businesses now!" it laughed.
And inside, Tommy was helpless.
4:00 p.m.
1492 Valencia Drive
Reefside, CA
Hayley Ziktor was getting nervous.
Tommy Oliver used to be late for things, but hadn't been like that in years. He'd been about as punctual as can be.
Tommy had told her he'd be here at 3:45. It was now 15 minutes after that and he hadn't shown.
The one thing he had done for Hayley, in all these situations, is give her a booklet of all Ranger contacts. Including Tommy's first love. Tommy knew she was in town but they'd somehow kept their distance, how, she didn't know.
As if to answer her question, the monitor beeped. Hayley didn't want to look, but turned it on anyways.
And as soon as the screen changed, Hayley's heart dropped.
It was definitely Tommy's Jeep, but it was changed. And it was rampaging through Reefside, destroying everything in sight.
She was about to phone Billy and Kat, who lived in nearby Surfside, but then heard her cell phone ring and saw who it was.
"Oh thank God," she breathed out loud and answered the call.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"Hi Hayley," Billy said. "By chance, have you seen the breaking news this PM? About a runaway Jeep in your town? This seems awfully strange. Doesn't Tommy own one?"
"Can you guys teleport?" Hayley said. "It's a long story."
"We still have communicators. We can be there any second," Billy said.
"Good. I'm that worried right now," Hayley said.
"On our way," Billy said.
In moments, the person who was considered the genius of the Ranger team and his wife Katherine were in Tommy's lair.
As one, they turned to watch the screen with Hayley in horror.
The damage downtown was tremendous. And it was definitely Tommy's Jeep.
"How in the bloody hell could this happen?" Kat cried. "It's Crabby Cabbie but worse!"
"And even if we wanted to, we'd have no way to stop that thing and evict Tommy," Billy said. "Alpha created a molecular scrambler to evict Kimberly from that monster back in the day, but it would take me a while to create one. Time we don't have."
"Plus we don't have powers. And most of us haven't practiced our Ninja powers in years," Kat said. "Except one."
Billy nodded at Kat. They dared not say who it was since Hayley would never see eye to eye with that 'one,' but they knew who it was.
Sure enough, the screen focused on the inside. Tommy was screaming in horror, "STOP THIS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!"
Poor Tommy. No one expected this.
"What about the Dino Thunder team?" Billy said.
"No. Kira just got done helping beat Thrax and it would be really unfair to ask her to do more than that," Hayley said. "Though come to think of it, I think this is Thrax's doing."
"Oh there's no doubt about it," Kat said. "I am sure he had that as a failsafe should he be destroyed. They always do. I should know. I was on that side once."
Billy's eyes were very attentive as he saw Jeepers careening into more of a residential district of Reefside.
"That Jeep just made a huge mistake," Billy said.
"Billy, there are people in that residential part of town who could get killed because of that thing!" Hayley cried.
Looking inside, they saw Tommy felt the same way.
"Dammit, you're going to go hurt little kids and parents now? What the hell kind of thing have you become, man?" Tommy cried.
"Yeah, but in my view the one who could maybe nullify the spell on that Jeep lives in that part of town. It depends on 'her' mental state, but I have a feeling…" Billy said as he trailed off.
"I think he would have been better off going down the highway towards Angel Grove to destroy the rest of us," Kat added.
Hayley sighed as she adjusted the map.
Residential Reefside, CA
She could hear the noises now after she'd stepped outside. That car was scaring little kids about three blocks away, and the noises were getting louder and louder!
Geez. What kind of a being goes and scares little kids, Kim thought.
Quickly, Kim hid behind a bush. She had a rather bountiful garden, which she'd dreamt of having when she was growing up. After she'd moved into the house a few years ago, she'd had a gazebo installed too.
Again, the job was good paying as it was at a big law firm in LA, so she could afford the nice garden.
Presently, she could hear it getting closer. Two blocks away. She closed her eyes, breathed deeply and concentrated on her power. In the meantime, she could hear it scaring more little kids who were getting off their winter break.
Poor Tommy. Imagine what he must have been thinking.
Block and a half now. Kim was now fully focused on her power and needed just a few more seconds. Just a bit closer…
"I'm the greatest ride there's ever been! Hahahahaha!" she could hear the thing laughing.
She was now ready. Pink power coursed through her body.
'Now,' she thought.
"I am the Crane, agile and graceful!" Kim cried. "Destroy that monster, and evict the person in it!"
The jeep, who felt unthreatened, never saw the wave of power, accompanied by a big pink bird, coming its way until it was too late. As usual, Kim only needed one shot. The shot hit dead on accurate.
The monster began to convulse violently. It knew it was done the second it was hit.
"The Great Power! That's impossible!" it sputtered. "My riding days are over!"
A massive explosion suddenly occurred. The car was completely totaled. And with it came a man that still made Kim's heart thump even today. He was thrown at least 10 yards into the air.
Kim thought about moving towards him, but before she could do anything, he suddenly vanished. Into thin air even before he had landed on the ground.
Kim prayed to somewhere safe.
In the meantime, the wreckage of Tommy's Jeep littered the street as far as the eye can see. Shrapnels of glass, burnt driver's seats broken parts, etc.
Kim thought about calling for help, but then her phone rang.
"Yes?" she said.
"Kim, it's Billy. We just saw what happened. Everyone has been clued into the news. Don't make calls. Jason is on the phone with his connections in the Reefside police department and the fire department. The cleanup crew is coming."
"Oh, thank God. The smell is already so bad out here. Good thing I'm stocked with food," Kim said.
"Yeah. Get your ass back inside," Billy said. "Nice shot by the way. Where's Tommy?"
"I'm not sure. Ninjor and another ally of ours visited me and said I was the only one who could destroy this guy, so they may have taken Tommy to get him conscious and cleaned up. Glad I got that jeep guy. I was only gonna get one shot."
"May the Power protect us all, Kim," Billy said.
M-51 Galaxy
"Well, that went swimmingly," Rito muttered. "Another plan foiled."
"Yeah. And once Tommy-boy comes to, he'll probably end up with the pink one again. That's not how I wanted this to end up," Dischordia said. "Now they get to have a merry Christmas as well. I think I'm gonna be sick."
"Yeah, idiot driver took a wrong turn. He was supposed to go towards Angel Grove but went to the residential district instead," Rito said. "He probably didn't think Pinkie would still hold feelings for technicolor ranger."
"We should have just kept our mouths shut," Dischordia finished.

"Did I hear correctly or did Kimberly say she was visited by Ninjor?" Kat said.
"She said Ninjor, all right," Billy said.
"Ninjor? Never heard of him," Hayley said.
"That must not have been in Tommy's video," Kat said. "Ninjor is the creator of the original power coins, and runs the Temple of Ninja Power in a pocket dimension. It's almost impossible for any being to get to although others have tried."
"He works with Dulcea, who is the Master Warrior of the planet Phaedos," Billy said. "The Great Power, as it is known, is even stronger than the powers Ninjor gave us."
"How long has it been since you guys practiced with your Ninja powers?" Hayley said. "Because Kimberly did that without morphing into anything. One shot."
"I have heard she went to the Ninja academies in Blue Bay Harbor to reconnect with her Ninja animal spirit, which is the Crane," Billy said. "That is, when she can get away from her legal work."
"Did she ever marry the other guy she told Tommy about?" Hayley said.
"Thank God, no," Kat said. "They split because the guy, Chris, is from Miami and Kim wanted to do law school in California. I met him and didn't like him anyways."
"Sleazy as shit, yes," Billy said.
"Well all I know my opinion of that woman just changed in 15 minutes. Because of her, Tommy is still safe…probably. The woman has a good heart," Hayley said.
"She's paid a lot for her mistakes, but yes, she has a good heart," Billy said. "The wild card is what will Tommy do when he finds out how this ended."
"If he wakes up at all," Hayley said.
"I think he will," Billy said. "We would all feel it if Tommy died – it'd be just like Zordon. His power level is still up."
Temple of Ninja Power
It seemed like Tommy had been asleep for ages, until he finally began to stir.
The first thing he noticed was that he ached all over. Not a single bone in his body wasn't sore.
Honestly, he was surprised it wasn't worse. After what had just happened, part of him was surprised he was even alive.
He was on some sort of a makeshift bed. It felt pretty good too, for a makeshift bed.
Whoever had abducted him after he was thrown from his vehicle was certainly trying their best to accommodate him.
Then, he took further stock of his surroundings. The place looked vaguely familiar. A second look around at his surroundings and he got a better idea.
It couldn't possibly be.
He hadn't been in this place in nine years.
His suspicions were further confirmed when he heard a familiar voice not far from him.
"I think he's stirring, Fienna," the voice said. That distinct voice could belong to only one entity. "I'll take care of things…stay by for now."
In moments, he heard footsteps and nodded as Ninjor came to his side.
"Welcome back to the Temple of Power, Falcon," Ninjor said. "How do you feel?"
"Like I got run over by an 18-wheeler on the California freeway," Tommy said. "And if I had to guess it could have been worse. How the hell did that monster get destroyed anyways? He yelled something about the Great Power as he got hit by something."
"Indeed he did," Ninjor said. Tommy had certainly matured over the years. "Let me show you how the Jeepers was destroyed…from the outside."
He called up a visual which was attached to the wall. Immediately, Tommy was riveted. Especially when he saw who he knew was responsible for his life being saved…again.
It was past the event, but Tommy could feel the power emanating from her. She'd obviously been training to get her ninja powers back.
He saw Kim call, "I am the Crane, agile and graceful! Destroy that monster, and evict the person in it!" and Kim let loose with her firepower. And as usual, she didn't miss.
When it ended, Tommy said, "I'm guessing my car got completely totaled. It's OK, because I'm alive, but that's just my guess."
"It did, Tommy," Ninjor said. "It happened near Kimberly's home in residential Reefside, and she told me the smell was so awful she had to go back inside.
"And how did my Jeep get hijacked anyways?" Tommy asked.
"Before the Retro Rangers defeated Thrax, he had a spell put on himself that would target your car and turn it into a monster should he be destroyed," Ninjor said. "No doubt Rito's doing."
"So the Retro Rangers won," Tommy said.
"They did. Thrax is no more," Ninjor said.
"Can't wait for the stories from Adam about how ugly he is," Tommy said. "So bone brain somehow got revived."
"Yes, by Thrax," Ninjor said.
Even as they were talking, Ninjor could see that the wheels in Tommy's mind were turning.
"Well, if Kim was looking for a great Christmas gift, I think she just got it. Actions speak louder than words," Tommy said. "Because now I know that her heart is still there. I assume the guy she was with is gone?"
"Yes, stayed in Miami when Kimberly came back West to go to law school," Ninjor said. "Big fight."
"I've been told he was a sleaze ball too…serves him right," Tommy said. "Say, I know someone that could use a defense attorney right about now too."
"Right now, you need to rest, mister," Ninjor said. "If you're lucky, you can go back home tomorrow and be in position to make that phone call."

Residential Reefside, CA
Two days after what had happened and everything had calmed down. It was like nothing had happened.
The Reefside police department and fire department had been out yesterday cleaning up the wreckage of Tommy's car. She had saved the world for sure, and Tommy probably, but wow what a mess it was.
But by Friday morning, the regular smell of the neighborhood had just about returned.
The previous day it seemed had been nothing but phone calls from people she'd never met. From the Ranger family of course, but she really hadn't known anything much about the new teams aside from Tommy's team.
The biggest notable was a call from Andrew Hartford, who was the mentor of the current team, Operation Overdrive. His call was an apology for putting Kim in that position in the first place.
The call astonished Kim the more she thought about it. Had Tommy infected other people with the Oliver Guilt Complex syndrome before his debacle yesterday?
Today was really starting off weird, though.
There was a car parked near her house…it looked like Billy's car. But as far as she could tell he wasn't in the house. And he would have knocked, even though he had a key. But there were doors clearly opening and closing all around her home.
But no one was in her home.
She tried to ignore it as she ate her breakfast, got in the shower and got dressed, but it kept happening from time to time.
And then, as she was about to turn on her television, she heard a voice.
"Congrats, to the woman, my Beautiful, who saved my life once again."
The voice was unmistakable. She heard it in her dreams…and until now, in her nightmares too.
And then, as if from out of thin air, there appeared the one man who still held her heart.
The combination of what had just happened, combined with how Tommy looked now, almost caused her to faint.
Again.
At the very last second, she grabbed the side of her couch, which only barely just kept her upright.
"Nice house, by the way," Tommy said as he pulled Kim to him.
"I can't believe it…" Kim said. "It's you again…Us again…"
"After you saved my life again, Beautiful, how could it not be?" Tommy said. "Literally, what you did 48 hours ago annulled any wrong doing you may have done. I owe you my life…again."
"And leave it to one of Rita and Zedd's spawn to come up with some hair brained scheme," Kim said.
"And bonehead. Don't forget about him," Tommy added.
"Seriously, I got lucky, Tommy. We got lucky. I don't know how I hit that Jeep. And honestly, I don't know why he thought to turn into the residential district of town," Kim said.
"Luck or not, it definitely did happen," Tommy said.
"I honestly don't know what I would have done if my shot had missed, Tommy. I got so scared when I talked to Ninjor about what was going on. I knew I was only gonna get one shot. God help us if I'd missed."
"But you didn't miss, and look at things now," Tommy said. "You'll be coming to the Christmas party at Jason and Trini's right?"
"Yes, of course, with one condition," Kim said. "Can Jason move it back a day? I'm spending the actual Christmas Day with some of my lawyer colleagues and I can't just jump ship."
"Definitely. I'm sure Jason won't mind," Tommy said. "Speaking of your profession, I've got a friend who needs a defense attorney."
"Interesting," Kim said. "Who?"
"The principal at Reefside High, my friend Elsa, got sued on Monday in local court by some punk kid who thought she was slandering him," Tommy said. "Most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while…she didn't do anything wrong. Not to mention Elsa is dissatisfied with her attorney."
"Wait…she's the former biker chick, right?" Kim said.
"Yeah but that wasn't her fault," Tommy said.
"OK. Tell Elsa I can step in and take over the case," Kim said. "One last question. How did you appear out of the blue just like that? And did Billy drive you over?"
"He did, and as to how I got in here, and have been snooping around, I have the power of invisibility still. The Dino Gems, which powered us, are powerless, but I still have that power. Now I want to know if you've been training in Blue Bay."
"I have. I went there shortly after the Ninja Storm/Dino Thunder team up. I learned to reconnect with my power there," Kim said. "I think after the holidays, and once you get a rental car, you should take a ride over there, mister. That invisibility power will only get you so far."
"Once I get a rental car, I definitely will," Tommy said. "Billy's gonna really get on me if I don't get moving right now."
"See you on December 26," Kim said.
July 2008
Angel Grove Lake
Angel Grove, CA
"Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Oliver. Thomas, you may kiss your bride!"
That one day, late in 2007 had changed Kimberly's fortunes forever…and Tommy's as well.
Once it got started rolling down the mountain, the momentum was absolutely unstoppable.
And it hadn't taken long for Tommy to propose either. He did it just after the new year, and everyone who had ever worn the uniform had been notified.
They were ALL there, including Fienna, the other mastermind behind Kimberly's plan to stop the Jeepers. Tommy had met her also when Ninjor had brought him to the Temple of Power, and Fienna urged him to get plans rolling as soon as he could.
And it hadn't been just the wedding that was the difference. Kimberly's legal docket had become drastically different. She had several new clients who had either worn the uniform or were related to them.
And it wasn't just Elsa.
Right before the Christmas party last winter in Angel Grove, but shortly after the defeat of Thrax, Kira had been a concert where a patron had called her vulgar, sexist names.
Kira thought going to the party, which she was at with the old Dino Thunder gang, would be embarrassing. If it hadn't been for Conner, she probably wouldn't have.
It had been far from embarrassing. Kim was enraged when she heard about it and offered her legal services for Kira as well. The events had been a shock to Kira since she thought she left that life when she moved away from her racist parents at 18.
Then there was the fact that the federal government had been trying to annex the Silver Guardians. Kim was still in federal court defending the Silver Guardians.
All of this and she wouldn't have had it any other way.
As Tommy and Kim kissed, for the first time as husband and wife, Kim wouldn't have had things any other way.
And she knew Tommy wouldn't either.
Everything had changed, because of one day in December when a miracle had saved them both and made them relearn the meaning of love.
The End
