A/N: This was a draft of Day 22: Mistletoe for "Jingle Her Bells," a collaboration by some awesome multiSaku writers on AO3 (check it out if you're in the mood for some holiday-themed, smutty drabbles). This one wasn't dirty enough, but I kinda liked it, so here's an unplanned, 500-word holiday present for you all!
Kakashi didn't realize the implications when he bought them. Really, he didn't. He just needed boxers, and when he saw a pack that had a pair adorned with puppies wearing Santa hats, he grabbed it.
He didn't expect the other pair to be quite so problematic.
The first sign that something was awry was the deep red blush that swept over Sakura's cheeks the moment she stepped into the exam room. She'd been doing his physicals for years, had seen him shirtless—even maskless—countless times, and she'd never blushed like that. Maybe the occasional smattering of pink (which, truth be told, he rather enjoyed), but not burning crimson.
Bemused, Kakashi scanned himself for oddities when she turned to pick up his chart. Scars, belly button, boxers, thighs … nothing unusual.
"Let's check your vitals now," Sakura said, interrupting his thoughts. She sounded like her normal professional self, and her blush was gone—at least until her eyes flickered down to his lap. Though she quickly refocused and reached for her stethoscope, her cheeks were flushed again.
"Is something wrong?" Kakashi asked.
"N—" She shook her head, pressing the metal to his chest. "It's nothing. Just—"
"Just?"
"Your boxers … there's …" Sakura bit her lip. "You've got mistletoe right on your ..." She gestured at his package.
Kakashi frowned, confused. "Is that offensive?"
"No, but—I mean, there's that tradition, and …"
And suddenly he understood.
"Sakura," Kakashi prodded, chuckling. "Are you thinking about kissing under my mistletoe boxers?"
Her eyes went wide, and she stumbled backwards. "I wasn't—I mean, not that I wouldn't, but … oh, god …"
Covering her face with her hands, she whirled around and made a beeline for the exit, but he beat her to it. With his back against the wall, he held one arm across the door.
"Kakashi, I—just forget I ever said anything, okay?" she pleaded, refusing to meet his gaze, even when he gently tilted her chin toward him.
"And if I don't want to?" he asked quietly.
He must have surprised her, because her eyes snapped up to his. Her expression was both so cute and so comical that he had to laugh. "Is it really that strange?"
She let out a little huff, but her shoulders relaxed. "Well, you were my sensei."
"Fifteen years ago."
"You're the Hokage."
"I'm also a man wearing provocative holiday underwear in front of the head of the hospital."
Sakura giggled. "Also that."
She'd moved closer as they debated, and Kakashi let his hand fall lightly to her waist.
"So …?" he murmured.
"So." Sakura smiled, then leaned back with a frown. "I hope you don't expect that to be the first place I kiss you."
Her fingers ghosted pointedly down his bare abs, and Kakashi's hold on her hip tightened as he lowered his head until their lips almost touched. "Here then?"
He felt her slight nod just before her mouth met his.
"Here's good."
