Hello! Back for a new year- and possibly the final year! When I started this it was my freshman year of college, I'm now in my Senior year. I've successfully done the 12 days of Christmas for two years and I'm going to try my hardest to keep up with this year as well. Last year was a bad year for motivation, it was a bad year in general, but I'm hoping to make it through this year since it might be my last, not as a fanfiction writer but as a college student doing crazy challenges and the like.

I'm very, very excited to tackle these stories and these fandoms. I hope you enjoy this year's contribution and that maybe you're motivated to go back and read the previous year's Christmas fics.

This story is a direct sequel to Bird and Beast, a story where Beast Boy comes out as nonbinary and changes their hero name to Changeling and their real name to Elm, just a bit of fun for a nonbinary writer who likes projecting. It is also SORT OF a sequel to the story Snow Globe which talks about BB's connection to Christmas. I'd recommend reading Bird and Beast but Snow Globe is significantly more optional.

"Are you happy?" It was a genuine question, asked without malice, a question Robin posed to his partner, Changeling.

It was a genuine question, a simple yes or no question, and yet Changeling hesitated.

"Robin… Richard…"

Robin frowned.

"Elm? Is something wrong?" Another yes or no question. They were sprawled out on Robin's childhood bed, with Elm's head in Robin's lap.

"They know, right?"

"That we're dating? Of course they do, love."

"And they know I'm nonbinary? And they're okay with that?"

"Why wouldn't they be? My family is going to adore you. If we stop hiding out in my room."

Elm let out a little groan, "I want to hide out in your room."

"Come on, Changeling. It's just my dad and Alfred this year, nothing to be afraid of."

"That's everything to be afraid of! That's your family! Even without your abundance of brothers it's a little overwhelming and- and I barely just got comfortable having Christmas with our family. I don't know if I'm ready to jump right into Christmas with yours."

"Oh, Beast…" Robin pressed a kiss to Elm's forehead.

"Walk me through it, babe. Tell me everything that's bothering you."

"Last year we had Christmas with the Titans and things finally started feeling normal again, you know? After everything had been so weird for so long, you know it took me a while to enjoy Christmas again the way I did when I was little with my parents. It felt good to be with you guys. Like I was finally finding myself and my family. And I'm excited to celebrate with your family, of course I am, I'm just afraid I'm not going to fit in with them. I'm afraid that I worked so hard to get like, the magic of Christmas back, and it's gonna disappear this year."

"I won't let that happen," Robin promised, running a hand through their hair.

"I know you're going to try, Robin, and I love you for that… I just don't know if I'm ready for anything more than hiding in your room."

"Unfortunately, as much as I love you, I am not letting that happen. Alfred already went through the trouble of making you a vegan entree."

"Oh, he didn't have to do that-"

Robin gave them a look, "Beast, I'm not going to let you go hungry on Christmas."

"Thanks, Bird." The shapeshifter sat up, feeling a little bit better.

"Here's my idea, Elm. First, you open the present I got you, and then we go down and eat dinner with a small, manageable piece of my extended family, and later tonight maybe we can call the Titans. Sound good?" Robin pressed a kiss to Elm's neck and Elm shivered with delight.

"I love you," Elm said involuntarily before Robin's suggestion registered.

"You got me a Christmas present?"

"Of course I did. You're my person."

"...I didn't get you anything this year," Elm said, looking ashamed.

"It's okay, Beast. You're here with me and that's enough."

"I'll make it up to you, Dick. My head just hasn't been on my shoulders lately."

"It's okay, Elm, I promise. There's nothing I want more than being with you for the holidays. Now let me grab your gift and we'll really get this party started.

"Sounds good." Changeling was already thinking about all the ways they could make it up to their boyfriend in the new year.

Robin hopped up and grabbed a pretty little package from his suitcase. He tossed it to Changeling, who thankfully caught it.

"Oh, there's heft to this. What'd you get me? A gold bar?"

"Just because Bruce Wayne is my dad doesn't mean I can go all out with your present. But I think you're going to like it."

And Robin was right. When they unwrapped their present, Elm was surprised and delighted to find a pretty little snow globe with a replica of Titan Tower.

"I love it."

"Well, I remember you telling us that snow globes meant a lot to you when you were younger."

"Yeah. They always represented the one time a year when I had the perfect Christmas card family."

"Well, I wanted to get you a snow globe that represented your new family. You really like it?"

"I love it. I love you. Thank you, Robin. You really know how to make me feel safe and special and loved."

"Are you ready to come downstairs?"

"Yeah. Let's go celebrate with your family."

"Merry Christmas, Changeling."

"Merry Crisis, Robin."

"And a happy new queer," Robin laughed, as they headed downstairs together, ready to face the world, or at least a manageable piece of Robin's extended family.
