The Fun Parts Of Christmas
Jack Frost was humming a Christmas tune as he flew around the towns, seeing people enjoying themselves as they shopped for Christmas gifts or just helped those less fortunate. He used his powers to create some frost on the windows of the stores, making people stop in awe and watch, making him smile.
He then thought about Kaylo and grinned, wanting to go wish her a Merry Christmas. Taking the air currents, he soon arrived in Rhythm Heaven, but to his shock, most of the place was deserted. "Okay, this isn't normal," he said to himself as he went to investigate. One thing that caught his attention was that there were no Christmas decorations up. "Okay, definitely something wrong here."
He closed his eyes, but didn't sense Pitch's magic. While that was a relief, he couldn't figure out why the place that was always lively and full of music was now practically empty. "Hopefully Kaylo can tell me what's up," he said as he flew to the castle, finding it to be under a bit of a heavy guard, but the guards, recognizing him, let him in.
He soon arrived in the ballroom and the sight that greeted him would have been comical if it wasn't nearly Christmas. Nearly all the townspeople and inhabitants from around the castle were all hiding inside, looking frightened and terrified for their lives as they huddled together, nearly on top of each other in an effort to keep inside the castle.
Jack saw someone that looked like a young witch at a cauldron and gently tapped her shoulder, making her jump and yelp in alarm, but then she looked curious at seeing him before her eyes widened. "Jack Frost?" She asked.
"That's me," he said with a smile before looking around. "Um, can you tell me what's going on here?"
She nodded. "We're all hiding in here," she said. "Some of us from far away. I myself am from Mystic Hollow and came here seeking refuge, which was granted to me."
"Is there an attack?"
The witch looked around before motioning him closer and he leaned down so that she could whisper in his ear. "We're hiding from the Scary Red Man, the one who stalks children from around the world and comes out every December 24th to roam the world until the next day," she explained.
Jack's eyes widened and he looked at her in confusion. "Wait, that sounds a lot like North," he said.
"North?" She asked.
"Yeah. He's also known as Santa Clause or St. Nick or various other names," the Guardian of Fun said. "But...why are you all so terrified of him? I mean, yeah, he can be a bit intimidating at first, but he's really a gentle giant and jovial."
Everyone looked at each other, but he could see they didn't believe him, which made him realize that this fear ran a lot deeper than the usual fear of Santa Clause he had seen some children exhibit. "Can you tell me where Kaylo is?" He asked.
"She's hiding in her room and won't come out until December 26th," the witch told him. "She's the one that told us to come here for shelter."
Jack bit his lip. "Did the Scary Red Man story come from her, by chance?" He asked gently.
"Yes," another inhabitant said. "But it's not a story. She learned of him and feared invasion, which is why we're all here."
"Why is the Scary Red Man allowed to invade our homes when we've done nothing wrong?" A small child asked.
The Guardian of Fun decided enough was enough. "Hey," he said. "Let me talk to Kaylo and see if I can convince her that the Scary Red Man is nothing to be afraid of, okay?"
"Do you know him?" The young witch asked.
"I do, as a matter of fact," Jack said with a smile. "He helped me when I was lost on how to be a Guardian. I know he can be a bit scary at first, but believe me, he's really a good guy. And I'm going to convince Kaylo of that."
With that, he searched the castle, soon finding Kaylo's room and he knocked on the door. "Kaylo? It's Jack," he said.
"Jack?" Came the young woman's voice. "Jack Frost?"
"The same," he said. "Can you come out?"
To his surprise, she didn't come out. "I'm sorry, Jack," she said. "But if I come out, the Scary Red Man will kidnap me and turn me into coal."
Jack would have laughed if it wasn't for the pure fear in Kaylo's voice. "What makes you think that?" He asked.
"Well, there's a song saying that the Scary Red Man watches you sleeping and can tell when you're awake," she said. "And I don't like that feeling of someone watching me sleep or stalking me when I'm awake."
Seeing this made her afraid and she wouldn't change her mind about coming out on her own, Jack fell into thought and had an idea. "Kaylo, I know a great place that makes really awesome sweets," he said. "If you come out, I'll take you there."
Kaylo, who loved sweets, opened the door cautiously and looked at him. "Really?" She asked.
"Yeah," he nodded. "At Santa's workshop."
The accidental slip made Kaylo cower back into her room and she shut the door. "No!" She said firmly. "I'm not coming out of Rhythm Heaven until the end of the month."
Now Jack was stumped before he came up with a brilliant idea. If he couldn't convince Kaylo to come out for Christmas, he would bring Christmas to her. He only hoped North would agree to it. He then remembered Balan and grinned, knowing that if North couldn't convince Kaylo that Christmas was a good holiday, Balan surely could.
Quickly, the Guardian of Fun flew towards North's workshop, bursting in and just managing to avoid the yetis, who yelped in surprise. "Sorry, guys!" Jack called out apologetically. "But this is an emergency!"
He then ran into a large belly and stumbled back, looking up to see North was looking at him in surprise before he chuckled. "Jack," the big man said, helping him up. "What's the hurry? There's still time for Christmas."
"And I'm glad, because I need your help," Jack said. "There's a girl I know. Her name is Kaylo."
"Ah, the ruler of Rhythm Heaven," North said with a smile before noticing his friend looked worried. "What is wrong, Jack?"
"Well, Kaylo and the inhabitants of Rhythm Heaven are convinced that you're scary and that you'll turn them into coal based on that song about you coming to town," the younger guardian said.
"What?!" The big man said. "Who spread that lie? Pitch?"
"No, not him," Jack said. "The inhabitants drew that conclusion from the song when it says you know what they are doing."
"Oh," the Guardian of Wonder said softly. "Well, were you able to convince them otherwise?"
"No, but that's where you come in," the Guardian of Fun said. "If we can't convince Kaylo to come out for Christmas, maybe we can bring Christmas to her."
North smiled. "I like that idea," he said. "How do we do it?"
"Well, what if you use your magic and decorate Kaylo's castle for Christmas?" Jack suggested. "Then you can meet her and show her that you're not scary like she believes and then we can convince her to come to a Christmas party. I just got to check with Balan about that part."
"Ah, the Guardian of Happiness," the big man said.
"I figured if Kaylo was having a hard time believing you, Balan might be able to convince her that she doesn't have to be afraid."
North smiled and gave Jack a gentle slap on the back. "I like it!" He said. "We shall go with your plan, Jack. Let me give you a hand getting to Balan's theater."
With that, he took out a snowglobe and shook it up. "Balan's theater," he said and a picture of the place showed up in the globe, to which North tossed it and the portal opened.
"Thanks, North!" Jack said, eager to get his plan in action as he flew into the portal, appearing in the main theater room. The cast members and inhabitants were surprised to see Jack, but waved to him and said hello. Balan turned and grinned at seeing the young Guardian who flew up to him and stood before him.
"Jack," the maestro said warmly, pulling the young man into a warm hug. "It's good to see you, old friend."
"Great to see you too, Balan," Jack said, smiling.
"Tell me, how is your lady friend?" Balan asked politely.
"She's doing great," the Guardian of Fun said. "Um, I was wondering if you're busy, cause I need help with something."
"I'm never too busy for my friends," the maestro said. "What can I help you with?"
Jack told him about Kaylo being afraid of North and his idea to bring Christmas to her. "But if North can't convince her to give it all a chance, I'm hoping maybe you can," he said. "You convinced me and Bunny that we could put aside our differences and work together. Do you think you can help Kaylo see the fun parts of Christmas?"
"I certainly can, my boy," Balan said. "It just so happens that I am throwing a Christmas party here at the theater. You and the other Guardians are welcome to come join us and bring Kaylo here."
The young guardian inwardly sighed in relief. "Hopefully we can all convince Kaylo that she shouldn't be afraid of North and that Christmas is a holiday to celebrate," he said.
"We will," Emma said with absolutely certainty in her voice. "If Balan could help me and Leo with our fears, he can definitely help Kaylo."
Balan smiled and gently tugged one of Emma's blonde pigtails in affection, making her giggle. Jack returned to North's workshop and told him that Balan was on board with the idea and the big man laughed merrily, ready to help the ruler of Rhythm Heaven and the inhabitants.
The next morning...
Kaylo woke up and stretched, getting dressed before she heard something. Curious, she opened her bedroom door and gasped in shock to see her home was decorated for Christmas, snow and all. As she gazed at the mesmerizing scene, she saw Jack float up to her and he smiled. "Hey, Kaylo," he said. "You know, there are so many fun parts of Christmas."
She blinked. "What do you mean?" She asked.
He smiled again. "Snow so that you can make snowmen or have snowball fights, make snow angels, enjoy gingerbread cookies and gingerbread houses, great food, and all kinds of stuff," he said. "And best of all, you get to meet the man that makes all the magic of Christmas happen."
"Who?" She asked.
"That would be me," came a deep voice with a Russian accent to it.
Kaylo gasped in fear at seeing him and swallowed, backing up a little as he approached her. North gently smiled at her. "Kaylo, I've heard many good things about you from Jack."
"You have?" she asked curiously.
"Yes," the big man said, still smiling before he handed her something. It was a peppermint stick and she took it while giving him a curious look, to which he chuckled. "By the way, I don't turn people into coal."
Kaylo blushed a little in embarrassment, but felt a gentle hand on her shoulder and she looked up at North, who still had that gentle smile on his face. "Now that we are on good terms, I would like you to come to a Christmas party with me and Jack, Kaylo," he said.
"A Christmas party?" She asked, looking at Jack, who smiled.
"A good friend of ours is hosting it," he said. "And he's someone you know too."
"And the whole kingdom of Rhythm Heaven is invited," North said before handing her a gift. "By the way, here is a special gift I think you'll enjoy."
She blinked. "Thank you," she said, wondering where to put it in her room, but North smiled.
"Go ahead," he said. "You can open it now."
Curious, she opened it and gasped at seeing it was a gorgeous dress that was red and green and had gingerbread, peppermint sticks, and other Christmas candies on it. "It's beautiful," she said in awe.
"Perfect for a Christmas party?" Jack asked with a smile.
Kaylo nodded and looked at North. "Thank you," she said. "Give me a moment to change and I'll be right out."
The big man nodded and moments later, Kaylo emerged in her new dress with her hair styled cutely. Both Jack and North extended their arms to her on either side and she grinned, accepting the kind gesture. "Not everyday I get escorted to a party by two gentleman," she said, making them both smile.
When they arrived where the party was to take place, Kaylo's eyes widened and she grinned. "Balan's theater," she said, excitement filling her.
Jack chuckled and it wasn't long before the doors were opened and the three walked in with all the inhabitants following them and it wasn't long before everyone was mingling at the party and enjoying the warmth and joy that was present in the room. The Guardians were talking with everyone and even spending time with the children while the inhabitants of Rhythm Heaven hung out with the costumes and inhabitants of Wonderworld.
Kaylo grinned as she saw how happy everyone was and felt a hand on her shoulder, to which she turned and gasped at seeing who it was. "Balan!" She said, a happy smile on her face as she hugged him and he returned the hug warmly.
"Kaylo, I'm so glad you came," the maestro said with his signature grin. "It's so good to see you."
She smiled. "Good to see you too," she said.
"What do you think of Christmas?" He asked curiously.
Kaylo smiled again. "I love it," she said. "And will celebrate it every year from now on."
Balan grinned before hearing a lively Christmas song come on and he bowed to Kaylo. "May I have this dance with you, milady?" He asked.
She giggled and curtsied. "I would be delighted to dance with you, my good man," she said as she took his hand and they began dancing as the others watched, smiling.
Jack and North grinned before nodding. "Another believer," the big man said.
"She just needed a little nudge in the right direction," Jack said.
They smiled again, glad to show a good friend the fun parts of Christmas.
Merry Christmas, everyone! :)
