Having A New Tradition For Christmas

"Okay, here we are," Lea said to her two cousins, who looked awed at seeing all the lights of Vinyl City. "Now, stay close to me. The city is bigger than home."

"Okay," Jamie said before looking up to see some snowflake decorations. "Wow."

"Ditto," the older girl said.

Sophie giggled as she jumped into a snow mound, jumping out and laughing again as the three made their way to the Barraca Mansion. The security drones came up to her and Lea held up a pass card that her uncle, Neon J, had given her. The security bot scanned the card and nodded. "Lea Thompson. You are cleared to enter," it said before seeing Sophie and Jamie and Lea nodded.

"They're with me," she said.

The security bots nodded as Lea's card not only gave her permission to enter the mansion, but allowed for two guests, which meant Sophie and Jamie were cleared to enter too. Going up to the front door, another security bot opened it and let them in while another gently took their coats and winter gear, hanging them up on the coat rack. "Thank you," Lea said before she looked around, seeing the house was decorated with Christmas decorations. In fact, the lights were blinking on and off to the beat of some Christmas songs. "Wow, Uncle J really went all out this year," she said.

"Who's Uncle J, Lea?" Jamie asked.

"He's a member of our family," the blonde teen said. "Come on, let's go find him and our robot cousins."

They had just gone down a hallway when a sound caught their attention and they looked around, to which they saw a hand motion them closer from behind a closet. Curious and getting out her hockey stick, Lea raised it before opening the door to see Rin hiding in the closet. "Rin?" She asked in shock.

"Shh!" He hissed at her, grabbing her and clapping a hand over her mouth. Eloni quickly picked up Sophie and made the 'shh' motion with his finger to his lips, to which the little one mimicked while Purlhew grabbed Jamie, gently placing a hand over his mouth as the boy was about to scream.

"Shh," he soothed. "Calm down."

"We won't hurt you kids," Zimelu said.

"We just don't want Dad to find us," Haym said.

Lea gently squirmed and Rin let her go. "Okay, what?" She asked. "What is going on here? Why are you all hiding from Uncle J?"

The five robots that made up the band 1010 looked uncomfortable. "Well, it's Christmas," said Purlhew.

"And that means time to put on the reindeer heads," Zimelu said, looking like he had eaten something sour.

"We don't enjoy wearing them as they are uncomfortable, but we don't know how to tell Dad that," Rin admitted.

Lea looked at them and sighed. "Okay, why didn't you say that in the first place?" She asked. "You didn't have to scare us like that by grabbing us."

"Sorry, Lea," Eloni said, hugging her as Sophie reached up and tried to grab the ring of hair on the robot's head, but it was too far out of her reach.

"Boys? Where are you?" Came a voice and the five grew quiet, to which Lea looked at her cousins and nodded.

"You guys wait here," she said. "Jamie. Sophie, you two are with me."

They emerged from the closet right before Neon J walked around the corner and he stopped in surprise before brightening up. "Lea!" He said happily, going up to her and hugging her. "Merry Christmas, my darling niece."

"Merry Christmas, Uncle J," she said before looking down at her younger cousins. "Uncle J, these two are Jamie and Sophie, my human cousins." She hugged the two young ones. "Guys, this is Neon J, our uncle."

"For real?" Jamie asked in awe.

"For real," Lea said while picking up Sophie, who had recovered from her shock and now reached for Neon J, who accepted her and the little girl was curious about his coat, touching the fluff at the collar and sounding amazed.

"I'm pleased to finally meet you two," Neon J said. "Lea has told me much about you two."

"Like what?" Jamie asked.

Chuckling, Neon J kneeled down and reached out a hand, gently booping the boy on the nose. "Like how you helped save the Guardians when Pitch Black nearly had all the children stop believing in them," he said.

Jamie stood proudly at that and Neon J looked at Lea. "By the way, my dear, have you seen the boys? I can't find them anywhere."

Lea nodded. "I did, but they went into hiding," she said. "They mentioned something about reindeer heads."

He sighed. "They don't want to wear them, do they?" He asked.

"Well, I can't totally blame them," she said. "Sometimes masks like that can be uncomfortable to be in for a long period of time, but also, sometimes masks like that can be a little scary for young ones."

"How do you mean?" He asked.

"Well, imagine Sophie seeing one of the guys with a reindeer head coming at her," Lea said. "She would get scared and start to cry since she wouldn't realize it's just a mask."

Neon J looked a bit thoughtful before looking at Sophie and he gently brushed a hand over her head. "You're right," he said. "And I can't stand to see little ones crying and upset."

Jamie nodded. "Maybe they can do something else?" He suggested.

"Yeah!" Lea said with a smile. "Like a new tradition, now that you have us in your lives."

The cyborg looked intrigued. "What sort of tradition?" He asked.

Sophie was looking outside and giggled. "Snow!" She said happily.

Jamie looked outside before seeing an ad for cookies and he perked up. "What about baking and decorating cookies?" He asked. "We could do different shapes, like snowflakes, ornaments, and snowmen."

"Or even the 1010 logo," Lea said with a grin.

"Cookies!" Sophie clapped her hands eagerly.

Neon J chuckled. "Well, I think we could do that," he said. "After a little something."

"What?" Jamie asked.

Neon J chuckled again and let out a whistle. "Boys! Front and center, please," he called out.

The five robots that made up 1010 came out. "Yes, Dad?" Rin asked.

"Remember when I told you boys something that was important when Lea came into our lives?"

The girl's eyes widened. "Oh, frostbite," she said before going to bolt, but Zimelu caught her.

"Where are you going, dear cousin?" He asked with a mischievous grin.

"Surely not running away, are you?" Purlhew asked, coming up to her.

Haym and Eloni caught Jamie, who looked a bit nervous, but soon was laughing as the two tickled his sides and Lea was in stitches when Rin joined Zimelu and Purlhew in tickling her to pieces. Rin went to town on Lea's underarms while Purlhew got her stomach and Zimelu got her feet.

Sophie giggled as she saw her cousin and brother getting tickled before she squeaked as fingers poked her sides. "Oh, you're next, little Sophie," Neon J cooed as he tickled her stomach next.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Jamie laughed out as he was trapped between his two captors as they now both got his feet, making him laugh his hardest.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! GUHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIYS!" Lea laughed out.

"Eeeee!" Sophie squealed as her neck was tickled by gentle fingers.

After a bit, Neon J snapped his fingers and the boys let up their cousins, who looked a bit winded, but were smiling. "Alright, how about those cookies?" He asked.

As they were baking, Lea spoke to her uncle. "I love your guys' version of Christmas, Uncle J," she said. "It makes me feel enchanted."

"It does?" He asked curiously.

She nodded. "Makes me think of Jack Frost and the other Guardians," she admitted before her feet began tapping to the beat and she began humming.

Zimelu grinned at her. "Sing it, cous," he said encouragingly.

"Please do," Purlhew said.

"We'll harmonize with you," Rin promised.

Lea smiled and began singing along to the Christmas song currently playing and, true to their word, the boys began harmonizing with her and the girl started dancing to the music, to which Neon J caught her and they both began dancing together, the girl trusting her uncle as she followed his lead.

Jamie and Sophie giggled as they saw this and when the song came to an end, Neon J hugged Lea. "I'm truly blessed to have you and now Jamie and Sophie in my life, Lea," he said. "You three are the best gifts besides my sons that I could have ever asked for."

Lea blushed a bit and the boys smiled before hugging their cousins. "I think we're all going to look forward to Christmas from now on," Rin said.

"Agreed," Haym said.

"Yeah," Eloni said.

"Thanks to our wonderful, lovely cousin," Zimelu said.

"Yes," Purlhew said.

"I second all that," Neon J said as they spent the rest of the day making more cookies, and signing and dancing to the Christmas songs that came on as the magic of the holiday filled them all with joy.
