The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Kyoko's Very Pregnant Christmas!
Kyoko groaned, barely lifting her head from the pillow as her eyes fluttered open. Once her vision came into focus, her eyes rested on her husband, Makoto. She smiled, the adorable sight of the slumbering man of her dreams never failing to make her heart flutter. Reluctantly, she stroked his cheeks with her thumbs, causing him to stir as his eyes fluttered open.
"…Merry Christmas, Makoto."
After he let out a yawn, Makoto smiled, pecking his wife on the lips. "Merry Christmas…" His eyes and hands wandered towards her extremely swollen belly. "To both of you." He clarified lovingly as he began to rub her tummy.
Kyoko began to purr in pleasure, relaxing in the hands of Makoto's gentle touch before a rougher, jolting sensation struck her belly. "Alright, alright, enough, or the baby'll kick up a storm."
Makoto smiled apologetically before he touched his nose to her belly button and cooed "Hey, I know you're excited, but don't go kicking Mama, okay?"
Kyoko sighed as the kicking in her belly settled down, relieved that her youngest child wasn't causing her any more pain for the time being. "You know, you're pretty far along." Makoto teased "We might end up getting an unexpected present this Christmas."
Kyoko softly glared at her husband, mumbling "Don't even joke about that. With your luck, we very well might."
"You're right, sorry." Makoto apologized. "So, shall we get up and wake the kids?"
Kyoko struggled to sit up, but ultimately fell back on the bed. "This pregnancy has really sapped my energy. Can you wake Nagito and Mikan and get them to help me to the couch in the living room? Then we can wake up Kiki and Mokubo."
"Sure, I'll go get them." Makoto pecked his wife on the lips. "I'll get everything ready, promise."
Kyoko watched her husband get off the bed and walk out of the room, leaving her alone for the time being. She sighed as she cradled her belly in her hands, glaring at the baby growing within.
You're going to be very troublesome when you come out, I just know it!
Mikan yawned, stretching her arms as she sat up in bed. She rubbed her sleepy eyes with one hand as she rubbed her belly with the other. Once her vision cleared, she looked over to the white-haired man next to her. Nagito snoozed soundly, his wavy hair tickling her arm as his snores echoed in her ears. Mikan's lips stretched into a smile before she reluctantly shook his shoulder.
"Nagi…wakey wakey, Nagi…"
Nagito groaned as his eyes cracked open. Once he let out a yawn, he looked up at his wife and smiled. "Merry Christmas, my adorable nurse." His hand slid over to her baby bump, causing the nurse to smile with love as he caressed her swelled abdomen. "And a very Merry Christmas to you too, our bundle of joy!"
Mikan giggled as she rested her hand over his own. She leaned over to give her husband a kiss.
"Now, shall we…?"
*Knock Knock*
Nagito and Mikan turned their heads towards the door before Mikan called "Come in."
Makoto peeked his head in, smiling apologetically. "Merry Christmas you two. I hate to interrupt, but is there any chance you guys could help Kyoko out of bed to the couch in the living room? I ned to go wake up the kids before I make the final preparations for Christmas."
"Of…of course." Mikan stammered as Nagito nodded.
"By all means, we'll be happy to help her. You just make the final preparations to spread joy and hope today!"
Makoto rolled his eyes before he nodded appreciatively. "Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to have some hot cocoa and cookies ready soon."
Once he closed the door, Mikan swung her legs over the bed. As she gingerly got to her feet, she muttered "Well, better get going. A nurse's job is never done."
"And there's none better than you!" Nagito commented as he got to his feet.
Mikan smiled appreciatively as she rested a hand against her baby bump. Nagito wordlessly went to his wife's side, supporting her as they walked out of the guest room and to the patient that needed their help.
"Kiki…wake up, Kiki…"
The young girl mumbled unintelligibly, yawning as she opened her eyes. Once she sat up in her bed, her vision cleared to reveal her smiling father looking at her.
"Good morning, pumpkin. Merry Christmas!"
"Merry…Christmas…" Kiki yawned as she cleared the last bit of drowsiness out of her system. "So, where's Mom?"
"Nagito and Mikan are helping her to the living room. You wanna wake up your brother and come to the living room while I start baking Christmas cookies?"
"Sure." Kiki nodded as she jumped out of bed. "Hogo, come on, boy!"
"Woof!" Hogo barked as the young puppy followed his master out the door.
Makoto chucked, shaking his head in amusement as he went in the opposite direction towards the kitchen.
Kiki peeked her head in, smiling as she saw her little brother snoozing on his bed. She quietly tiptoed over to his bedside and leaned into his ear.
"Moku…?" She whispered. "Wake up, Moku. It's Christmas, Moku!"
The slumbering boy finally stirred, yawning cutely as he looked up at his sister. "Nee-nee?"
"Hey, Moku. It's Christmas! We gotta meet everyone in the living room so we can have cookies and hot cocoa! Plus there's all the presents Mom and Dad got for us!"
Not waiting for the boy to get out of bed himself, Kiki gently pulled Mokubo out of bed herself. Once she gently placed him on his feet, she took his hand. As she felt his fingers gently wrap around her own, she lead him out of the room and into the hallway.
"Woof!" Hogo barked as he followed his master and her little brother dutifully.
"Ano…Mrs. Naegi…?" Mikan walked up to the bedridden Kyoko, who merely groaned in response. "Makoto…told us to help you…into the living room…" Kyoko nodded gratefully before Mikan gripped one of her arms. "Nagito, you grab her other arm, alright?"
Nagito nodded and wrapped his hands around Kyoko's other arm. With a grunt, they pulled, allowing Kyoko to finally stand on her feet.
"…Thanks…" Kyoko croaked as Nagito and Mikan each supported her from one side by wrapping an arm around her waist.
"Oh, no worries…that's what we're here for…" Mikan assured her.
"So, shall we make our way into the living room so we can experience the joy and hope of Christmas?"
Both pregnant women sweatdropped before Kyoko smiled. "That sounds nice…so, shall we go?"
"Mom!" Kiki exclaimed as she and Mokubo ran up to hug their mother, who was resting on the couch.
"Merry Christmas, you two." Kyoko smiled as her two children climbed on the couch, sitting on either side of her.
"Yes, Merry Christmas." Everyone turned to see Makoto, carrying a tray in each hand.
On one sat a plate of traditional Christmas cookies, the freshly baked scent making their mouths water. On the other were several mugs of hot cocoa, the whipped cream melting from the heat of the beverage. Kyoko sighed in relief as he placed them down on the small table in front of the couch.
"Alright, let's see…" Makoto began to hand out the beverages. "One for Kiki, one for Nagito, one for Mikan, and for Kyoko, I made your favorite blend of Civet Coffee."
Kyoko smiled as she accepted the beverage and began to sip. "Mm, you always know how to treat me on holidays, Makoto." She cooed as her taste buds began to sing.
"Thanks, honey." Makoto chuckled before he handed her a pair of cookies. "Alright, now that Kyoko has some, everyone else can dig in. When we're done, we can start opening presents."
"Yay!" Kiki cheered as she, Nagito, and Mikan raced to grab some cookies.
Mokubo merely stared while his parents smiled in amusement at the sight.
"Mmm…delicious!" Kiki popped her fingers in and out of her mouth as she licked off the remaining crumbs and frosting.
The adults smiled, holding back their snickers as they saw the chocolate mustache on Kiki's lips. The girl's cheeks flushed pink as she realized what they were grinning about. Before any of them could laugh at her cute face, she wiped the cocoa on the sleeve of her pajamas.
"…It's too bad Jii-chan or Baa-chan or Aunt Komaru couldn't come this year." Kiki commented in an attempt to change the subject as she willed her blush away.
Makoto nodded in understanding as he placed a hand on his wife's belly. "Yeah, me too, but carrying your new sibling has been really hard for your mother."
"Indeed." Kyoko confessed "I'm kind of glad we limited it to just us. I don't think I could properly enjoy a family Christmas party with everyone."
"Cheer up, Miss Naegi!" Kiki turned to Nagito, who grinned at her. "It may be a little smaller, but you can still have a wonderful Christmas this year!"
"He's right." Mikan nodded. "Try to stay happy! It is…Christmas, after all."
Kiki smiled and nodded, feeling her spirits lifted from the encouragement. "You're right…say, Dad?" Kiki turned to her father. "Since Mom's feeling tired, can I take over present duty?"
Makoto smiled and nodded. "Sure, why not?"
"Yay!" Kiki cheered. "Alright, let me find you a present!"
The others smiled as they watched Kiki crawl over to the circle of presents under the tree. She dug through the different wrapped boxes until she held one victoriously over her head.
"This one says…to Kyoko, from Makoto!" She ran over to her parents and handed it to her mother. "Here you go, Mom!"
"Thank you, sweetie." Kyoko smiled gratefully as she playfully shook the present. "I wonder what it is…?"
Kyoko meticulously pulled apart the wrapping paper, savoring the moment and preserving her strength. "Oh, Makoto…how did you find this much Novoselic chocolate?"
Makoto grinned and explained "Sonia and Gundham were kind enough to ship some over when I asked."
"Makoto…thank you, I love it." Kyoko's smile drooped as she lamented "I just wish I had gotten you something too…"
"Hey, don't worry about it, honey!" Makoto assured her as he rubbed her belly. "I know how tiring this pregnancy has been for you, and the only present I need is you and the kids."
"Indeed." Kyoko mused as she rested her hand over Makoto's. "Let's hope this one will be healthy." She then turned her gaze to her daughter. "Alright, Kiki, you wanna grab another present?"
Kiki nodded enthusiastically and dove back into the present ring. She swam through the gift arrangement before she pulled out another one.
"This one says…to Mokubo from Mommy and Daddy!" She crawled over to her baby brother and exclaimed "Hey Moku, let's open it together!"
Kiki held the present in front of her brother's eyes and began to rip into the wrapping paper on his behalf. Once she unwrapped the box inside, she lifted up the cover, allowing the two siblings to look at the gift within.
"Look, Moku, it's a new set of pajamas!" Kiki lifted it out to reveal a set of lavender hoodie-footie pajamas. She grinned as she exclaimed "Don't they look so soft and comfy?"
Mokubo merely stared at the present silently, causing the others to sweatdrop.
"We'll…try it on him later…" Makoto decided. "How about we open another present?"
"Alright, let's see…" Kiki dug through the pile of presents again before she held up another one above her head. "Oh, how about this one? It says…to Kiki, from Mom and Dad."
Makoto and Kyoko smiled in amusement as Kiki ferociously ripped into the package, excited to see what her parents had gotten her. "WOW! It's the newest Super Mario game!"
"That's right." Makoto nodded. "We figured you'd like it, so we got a copy before they sold out…oof!"
"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!" Kiki cheered as she tackled her father.
Makoto chuckled as he patted her back. "You're welcome, pumpkin. I know you probably want to play your game now, but perhaps we should allow Mikan and Nagito to open a present too. I'm sure they brought presents for each other."
Nagito nodded. "Though it wasn't much, part of me did hope that we would be welcome enough to be part of the festivities during our stay."
"So we brought our presents with us when you hired us." Mikan finished.
Makoto nodded and suggested "Kiki, why don't you bring over their presents so they can open them at the same time?"
Kiki saluted energetically. "Alright, leave it to me!" She dove back into the pile, sifting through the remaining presents until she held two wrapped boxes over her head. "Alright…" She walked over to the Tsumikis and handed them their presents. "One for Nagito, and one for Mikan."
"Thank you…Kiki…" Mikan stammered as she and her husband accepted the gifts.
"Ready to open our presents, my darling nurse?" Nagito cooed.
Mikan blushed, giggling excitedly as they unwrapped their presents. "Bo-Bojobo Dolls?" She gasped.
"A six pack of Blue Ram?" Nagito exclaimed, his eyes widened in happy shock. "Miki…thank you."
"You too, Nagi…I'll love them!" Mikan uttered before they leaned in for a kiss.
The others smiled and watched the soft gesture of love between husband and wife. Once they separated, smiling bashfully with pink faces, Makoto turned back to his daughter.
"Kiki, why don't you continue with the presents?"
"Okay, leave it to me!" Kiki dove back into the present ring, muttering "Let's see…which one to get next…of, here's one from me to Mom!"
Kyoko smiled as her daughter walked over and handed her a present. "Thank you, sweetie." Once she kissed her daughter on the head, Kyoko began to tear curiously at the wrapping paper. I wonder what she got me…? Well, whatever it is, just having my family here with me, that's all I need. Well, that, and…
Kyoko paused the present opening to look down and rest her hand against her swelled belly, feeling the baby gently move inside of her.
…And also, having my third baby be healthy, just like their brother and sister!
