Summary:Au high school in which Mito is Naruto's cousin. Naruto's cousin Mito transfers over to his school for the start of the new high school year. Her arrival signals a shake up in the Konoha 12, one they would never forget.
Cold. That's how Mito felt at the moment. When she walked out of the airport, she hadn't been prepared for the cold breeze of Konoha's air. She had moved from her home town far off in the coast of Uzu.
She hadn't really had any say in the matter and that bothered her a great deal. The reason was easy to see. Her mother had died in a car crash and she was an orphan now. She was of course, devastated, but she had to keep moving forward. Her aunt Kushina had decided to take her in and for that she greatful.
Speaking of Kushina, she arrived at that very moment in a black car. She seemed quite excited about the prospect of hosting Mito. Both redheads stared at each other before Kushina's expression became more solemn. She wrapped Mito up in tight embrace as the girl broke down in her arms.
"It'll be alright," Kushina whispered into Mito's hair. Mito nodded weakly as she held on tighter. It had been a week since the funeral and she thought she could handle herself now but seeing Kushina had made it all come back full force.
"Thank you," Mito rasped out as Kushina pulled back.
"Hey, family looks after each other. Now come on, we gotta get home before dark," they hurried over to the car as the wind picked up. Mito wiped away a stray tear as she smiled, albeit a bit weakly. This was her life now.
When they arrived, Mito eyed the place she would be living in. It wasn't overly big but had a very comfortable feeling to it. A living room, the kitchen, bathroom , garage and three bedrooms. They had a pretty big yard. She supposed she could get used to this living arrangement.
"Welcome home," a voice called from the kitchen. Mito watched as a blonde man with blue eyes walked in. She assumed this was her aunt Kushina's husband, Minato.
"Hey," Kushina kissed him on the cheek before moving to the side for Minato to see her. He smiled as he saw her.
"Mito, correct?" he asked as she nodded.
"l'm Minato but uh, you already knew that right," he laughed sheepishly as Mito gave him a curt nod.
"It's nice to finally meet you uh..." she wasn't sure what to call him.
"Minato is fine if you may," he urged as Mito gave a smile at his suggestion. "Minato it is then,"
"Our son won't be back until later so make yourself comfortable," Kushina told her as she walked off to the bedroom. Mito excused herself as she set up her things in the guest room she would using. On her way, she passed a picture of the happy family. Honestly, she was a bit jealous and rightfully so.
'So that's Naruto,' she noted how he looked just like his father only his hair was shorter and his eyes seemed so much brighter. With a sigh, the redhead walked on.
Naruto came home from hanging out with Sasuke expecting his home to be completely taken over by some spoiled toddler. He hadn't been expecting Mito. For one, she was his age. And two, she was girl.
It didn't necessarily bother him per say, he just would have preferred to be warned before hand. Still, she was definitely better than what he expected from relatives -or at least what he knew from his friends- coming to stay over.
She looked at him with her violet iris' before she spoke. "Naruto," she intoned softly as the blonde boy grinned at her.
"That's my name so don't wear it out, l take it you're Mito," he answered as she nodded at him with a smile, however small it was.
"Gotta say, you weren't what l was expecting when l came in," he told her. Mito raised an eyebrow at the declaration. It was clear Naruto was an honest guy.
"What were you expecting?" she asked as Naruto went with what he had been thinking.
"A spoiled brat with a horrible attitude. l wasn't expecting you to be a girl my age," Naruto replied. Mito felt her smile twitch just that bit wider.
"You know that's just a steroetype, right?" she sounded amused and he was glad he got her to relax. He didn't know what he would have done if she immediately disliked him. "A very true one," he added.
"l hope you don't mind me staying with your family. I don't wanna impose or anything," she told him seriously as Naruto shook his head.
"We're family. We stick together," he told her as seriously as he could. The expression didn't quite fit the bill, so she laughed.
"What's so funny?" he asked as he heard her light chuckles. Mito's shoulders shook lightly as she tried to regain her bearings.
"Your face!" was all she gave but Naruto understood it. People often told him his face wasn't meant for overly serious expressions. He rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish smile.
'So he does that too,' she smiled at him as she stood up. Naruto watched her, wondering what she was doing. She straightened her back and spoke softly. "I'll see you tomorrow, ne Naruto," Oh, so she was going to bed. Naruto nodded as he saw her off with a goodnight.
Naruto was not a morning person, especially on a weekend like this. Unlike others, he chose to go running in the late afternoon as the sun went down. He heard a knock on his door, one he wasn't familiar with, so he assumed it had to be Mito. "Coming," the blond yelled as he got out and quickly put on a shirt.
With a light tug, the door opened as he met Mito's eyes. She gave him an unimpressed look.
"Do you know what time it is?" she finally asked. It became apparent to her that he didn't because of the sheepish smile he gave. "It can't be that late," he reasoned as best as he could.
"It's already past noon," Mito delivered flatly. "Your mom told me to get you," she sauntered off as Naruto hurriedly tidied up his room as best he could.
He made it to the kitchen and found both his parents along with Mito sitting by the kitchen table. "Sorry l over slept," he apologized as he sat down next to Mito.
Minato cleared his throat now that everyone was gathered around the table.
"As you know, Mito moved here so the best option for her is to go to your school Naruto," his father told him.
Naruto didn't see the problem, Mito was okay in his book and not that he was bragging but he considered himself a great judge of character, except with Sasuke. That guy was in a league of his own in the emo department.
Seeing that he seemed to agree, his parents stepped out but not before his mother embarrassed him.
"That's my Naru-chan, so understanding," Kushina cooed as she smiled. Naruto didn't look at Mito but he just knew she was smirking.
"So Naru-chan," Mito purred once they were alone. Naruto felt ready to die.
