Some quick context: I wanted to create a story set in MHAverse with more focus on school happenings and less Shounen adventures, so I created a new class of twenty students and started a story.
There will of course still be stakes and drama. They are training to be Heroes after all.
And I'm planning some known characters to appear in it.
Enjoy!
Twenty years have passed since Midoriya Izuku and the rest of class 1-A graduated from U.A. The League of Villains has been vanquished and Deku took the stage as the new Symbol of Peace. Things had finally calmed down again in the world of heroes. But the world still needs heroes and the next generation of students come knocking on U.A.'s doors with their own dreams of becoming heroes.
A big mess stood in front of the gates of U.A. He had short, brown hair, that somehow still looked like absolute chaos. His clothes were shabby and too big. Strapped to his back, was a backpack straight from a thrift store, several patches keeping the thing together. Overall, he gave the impression of someone who didn't care about how he looked or couldn't afford to. One thing, however, looked immaculate. His glasses were clean and stood on his nose straight. Saotama Tora looked at the buildings and the campus that comprised the prestigious U.A. High School. He wasn't a student yet, but he was determined to walk around in these buildings soon. He was here for the entrance exam. He had prepared as much as he could and he was ready.
Not as ready as he had hoped though. Tora was pretty sure he had scored well on the written exam. He wasn't a genius, but paid enough attention in class to be able to answer the questions he was given. Now however, he was panicking slightly when the practical part of the exams was explained to everyone. Robots?! They were gonna fight giant robots?!
They would be let loose in a fake city where hundreds of robots, varying in size, roamed. The bigger the robot, the more points you gathered from destroying it. The biggest ones, however, were worth zero points and should be avoided at all costs. Considering they were supposedly bigger than the buildings themselves, Tora didn't need to be told twice.
He had to relax. He wasn't bad at fighting, but this was gonna be a challenge even if the robots were tuned to senior middleschoolers. He breathed to try and calm his mind while looking around to see how everyone else was reacting. Judging from their faces, everyone looked about as taken aback as he was. He had to admit, this was a colourful bunch, even more so than you would see out on the street. Several people sported extra limbs or other appendages, sizes were all over the place with some students over twice as tall as everyone else and skin colours encompassed the entire rainbow and then some. For the first time, Tora felt out of place, looking like a regular human. Though that might be an advantage. His Quirk wasn't immediately obvious from just looking at him. He carried the element of surprise and might even cause some to underestimate him. When the signal to start the exam was sounded, Tora plugged in his earbuds and started a playlist labelled 'Speed' on his phone.
"Alright, let's do this!" Determination filled the boy's eyes as he ran towards the opening gates with all the other students.
Itsuki was ready. He'd worked towards this his entire, though admittedly still short, life. Both his parents were heroes and ever since he had seen them fight on TV, he'd wanted to become one as well. Every night, he hung on his father's lips as he told stories of their heroics. Be they about stopping a robbery, rescuing people from disasters or fighting some villain organisation, he loved every single word. Now, it was his turn. He was going to become a Hero and make his parents proud.
As soon as the horn, signalling the start of the practical exam, sounded, Itsuki charged forward. He was one of the first through the gate. If he could get ahead of everyone, he would be the first to the robots and he could score some easy points.
In the corner of his eye, Itsuki caught something moving above him. They didn't say some of the robots could fly. Looking up, he saw not a robot, but what he presumed was another student that had caught up with him.
She looked striking, a hybrid between a moth and a human, she had large, grey and white wings with black eyespots on them. White fluff covered most of her arms, legs and around her neck. On her head stood two antennae that twitched while she was looking around, undoubtedly looking for robots as well.
If she didn't cut it as a hero, she could become a model, Itsuki thought to himself. He was so enraptured by the moth girl he didn't notice the robot in front of him. He got the air knocked out of him when he collided with it and got knocked on the ground.
"Oh shit!" Itsuki quickly rolled to the side before a metallic fist could hit him. He scrambled to his feet and prepared his Quirk to take out his first robot.
Someone was faster than him. The flying girl had landed on the robot and now held a few cables in her hand while the robot was short-circuiting. She jumped off of the robot and gracefully landed next to Itsuki. His mouth was slightly agape at the speed with which the girl had taken care of the robot.
"Are you alright? It would be a shame to be hurt so early in the exams."
"O-oh no, I'm good. The thing didn't even touch me." Itsuki flashed a sharp, toothy grin.
"That is fantastic to hear!" the girl clapped her hands together. "I'm afraid I must leave then. I would hate to miss more robots. Best of luck!" The girl waved at Itsuki and took flight once more.
Itsuki looked on as the unique looking girl turned a corner and disappeared between the buildings. She had a grace and manner about her that reminded Itsuki of royalty. If she had introduced herself as the emperor's daughter he wouldn't have doubted her for a second.
The aspirant hero shook his head. He couldn't dwell on the girl right now. He had to focus on the exam. Several students had passed him by by now and he needed to hurry to catch up. Itsuki ran off looking in every alley for any possible stragglers.
The girl would probably make it through this with how quickly she dispatched the first robot. He, however, had some catching up to do.
Netsuka Kaira slammed her fists together. Beating up robots? Right up her alley! She didn't hesitate when the start signal was given, charging ahead and giving out wallops like free candy leaving scrap metal and confounded students in her wake. When she looked back and saw several students looking at her in amazement, she wasn't surprised and even felt a little bit proud. Standing just under 5'3" and, despite her Quirk, looking quite tender, she didn't strike an imposing figure. She did stand out in other ways though. She had dark blue skin, patterned with scales on her shoulders, thighs and short, meaty tail, giving off the impression of a reptile/human hybrid. Long, somewhat fuzzy ears stuck out from under her bobbed, black hair that reached to her shoulders, and now that she was getting warmed up, her body was glowing light blue as if a bulb was lit inside her chest.
Kaira didn't give the stares a second thought and kept moving. There were more robots that needed to get acquainted with her fists and now that she was starting to warm up, the fun could really begin.
And fun it was, the blue girl felled several more robots. She was hitting a stride. At this rate she would succeed at the practical exam with a perfect score!
"Look out!" Kaira turned towards the scream as someone grabbed onto her and dragged her away. Kaira and the stranger fell to the ground a dozen feet further.
"Let go of me, you bastard! I was getting into it."
"And you would've gotten into a hole in the ground too. You didn't see the building-tall robot coming for you?"
"What are you talking─" Kaira's voice got stuck in her throat when she saw what had happened to the spot where she was standing just a second ago. There wasn't much spot left, only a giant crater in the shape of a footprint. Looking around she saw one of the zero-point robots lumber onwards, away from them. Somehow, in her frenzy, she had completely failed to notice the monstrosity coming her way.
"You okay?" The stranger questioned. "I was a bit rough in trying to get you out of there. I hope I didn't hurt you."
Kaira turned towards the boy sitting next to her, finally getting a proper look at him. He looked like he had walked through a tornado. A mess of short, brown hair on his head and clothes he was drowning in. Hiding behind a pair of glasses stood big, kind eyes. Despite the chaos and pressure from the exams, he looked relaxed, almost happy. While Kaira was pondering about her saviour, he adjusted his glasses, stood up and reached out his hand to pull Kaira up from the ground.
She scoffed and swatted his hand away. "I can get up fine by myself, thank you."
"Alright," He responded, unfazed, "I'll be off then. Got some points to score."
As if on cue, a smaller, 2-point robot passed them by. The boy gave chase. Waving his arms and yelling to get the robot's attention. "Come back here, ya big palooka! I need your points!"
Kaira looked after her rescuer in disbelief. They were trying to get into the most prestigious hero school in Japan and this guy was just fooling around rescuing people instead of scoring points. And 'big palooka'? What kind of thing was that to yell? Surely nobody age fifteen would use a word like that. Wait, was he wearing earbuds? Was that even allowed? Were the earbuds for his Quirk or just to focus?
The girl shook her head, banishing the thoughts. She had to focus. The exam wasn't over yet. There was a lot more to come...
