A/N: This story is one that I've been writing and developing for years... And at the same time, it's a completely new one.
It started as a pokemon fanfic I wrote to parody a very famous (albeit very cringy) series of fanfiction made in DeviantArt and one which I took particular issue with, however as time went on, and I obsessively went through details and changed character and story development it is truly unrecognizable from those original drafts I wrote all the way back in 2015.
After thorough deliberation and lots of encouragement from close friends, I decided to stop writing it as a piece of fanfiction and began drafting an original script, one whose 2nd draft will hopefully be finished within the next 2-3 years IF college and this stupid pandemic allow it.
Speaking of the said pandemic is crucial to understanding why I chose to make this story while still being stuck wanting to write loads of Balto and (hopefully) zootopia fics again.
A few weeks ago while cleaning my old apartment during the pandemic, I happened to find some of the notebooks, the parody fic had originally been written, and after many hours of laughing and cringing at some of my old writings, I couldn't help but feel some nostalgia towards my first stories and experiences within the fanfic community.
My writing style and story development strategy has changed a lot from 2015 and I truly wanted to feel like I was writing for the hell of it.
So this is what I came up with, I will go back to my roots and for this story in particular I'll be mostly winging it. I'll use some of the concepts and draft from the first scripts I made but I'll try to write whatever comes to mind first.
It's also worth noting that this story and the one I'll hopefully publish one day are worlds apart but some aspects of the new original story will be carried over to this one.
Now that that's out of the way without further ado...
…
…
…
My first memories…
I remember the peaceful sound of waves… and birds singing away…
…
...
The air moist and warm…
…
The salty smell of seawater that soaked my body...
...
And sand... soft, comfortable sand beneath my resting body…
…
'Yes…' I thought at that moment '...I could stay like this... Forever…'
…
…
A crashing wave sent water far into the shore, its foamy edge tickled my body in an almost playful manner… And a smile made its way to my mouth…
…
For the first time, I opened my eyes slightly…
Blinking a few times, my vision slowly adjusted…
A beach, bathed only by the gentle light of a cloud-covered moon...
…
I closed my eyes again… And instinctively rolled onto my back from my side…
…
My whole body ached, stubbornly refusing to move but until my weight was enough to force me to lay on my backside…
I sighed feeling slightly more relaxed in this position…
…
A gale soon swept through the landscape, the warm air carrying more of the ocean's scent along with others such as trees, grass, and something... something else.
…
It was warm, smoky, and… toasty?
…
I couldn't put my finger on what it was, but something felt oh, so… Familiar?
…
The curiosity immediately piked my interest and once more I opened my eyes…
…
The sight that greeted me would forever remain etched into my very soul for the rest of my life…
There… Far above into the sky clouds gave way, revealing an endless, glistening starry sky…
…
I was mesmerized…
And though I couldn't even begin to grasp what my eyes were gazing into…
…
Something deep, deep down inside me knew this was of immense importance.
…
A pair of shooting stars raced through that window into infinity…
…
And at that moment every feeling of exhaustion and fatigue abandoned my body…
...
Through sheer force of will and a strange feeling that swelled within me, I reached out… My hand slowly extended skywards as I fruitlessly tried to touch that window far above me, almost expecting to take a part of that heavenly sight and steal it for myself, for the rest of eternity…
…
I wanted that sight to be with me forever…
All too soon a new wave of exhaustion came down upon me, and my arm struggled to stay in that skyward stance
…
My vision began to blur and my hand started to shake… at that moment I knew it was time to leave that momentary ambition behind, but something else caught my eye as my arm was lowered back into the soft sand beneath…
…
Closing my eyes for the final time, I curled myself into a ball and allowed myself to rest and recover once again… Drifting into a dreamless sleep...
…
"Strange…" I whispered to myself with my final breaths…
…
…
…
I chuckled a little, processing for a final time what had caught my attention, feeling ridiculous, being tricked by my own senses…
…
…
…
"I don't remember only having three fingers on my hand…"
...
A/N: Next chapter should be up in a few hours, again don't expect much from this as I'll mostly improvise stuff for this one.
