First posted non-my hero academia crossover! It follows pretty much the whole Fairy Tail plot up until the 100 Year Quest, though things are different with who is there, and there's plenty of original content outside of the main plot. It would be "helpful" to know about the Fairy Tail world first, but it's not needed. Everything is briefly explained.
There is romance later, Marco x Ace, but not the main detail. Ace does make some very inappropriate jokes, so beware. Quite a bit of angst and hurt/comfort later in the story. Violence and swearing are in this as well. This also takes place exclusively in the Fairy Tail world, though it's Ace-centric. Enjoy!~
"Hey! You alright?" Ace woke up to someone saying that to him, hands shaking his shoulders. Ace opened his eyes, looking confused. His head hurt a bit, and the light was too bright. He moved his hand over his eyes with a deep breath. It was chilly, but he wasn't cold for some reason. He was wet and shirtless, only in shorts and boots. Nothing else.
He sat up, and glanced at the girl who woke him up. He squinted, and didn't recognize her or where he was. It looked like he was in a park of some sort, with a huge tree behind him. His back was dirty, but there was no source of water where he was, so how was he wet? The girl was pretty small with blue hair and a hairband around her head.
There were two men with her, one with a top hat and the other with dark skin and a point from his hair. "Are you okay? What happened to you?" she asked, sounding genuinely worried. Ace was befuddled, and confused. He didn't remember how he got there, or what he was doing before he woke up.
He remembered nothing but his name. "Uh… I don't think so," he said honestly, pressing his hand to his forehead. She asked him what happened, and the guy with the top hat helped him stand up. He wobbled on his feet, but was able to right himself before he fell over. The man with the pointed black hair asked him if he was drunk. "No… where am I?"
The three shared a look, and the girl said he was in Magnolia, in the park.
"How are you wet? There's nothing wet over here," the top hat guy said in confusion. He seemed suspicious of Ace. He didn't know why. Ace felt much less dizzy now, and really took a look around. He was in a park with the big tree, and there were buildings made of stone all around the public area.
Ace replied that he didn't remember. But he admitted, afterwards, "I think I was drowning."
"So you drowned but someone brought you here and dumped you?" the girl asked, sounding angry about it. If someone did do that, they were kind of jerks. Though they may have saved him from drowning, so he couldn't be too angry. At least somebody came and woke him up. He didn't remember anything, and that was concerning.
The seventeen year old asked them their names so he could thank them, his voice polite. "I'm Levy, and this is Droy and Jet." Ace bowed and thanked them before he walked away a few feet, before turning back around and rubbing the back of his wet hair. He asked where he should go now. He couldn't remember anything or anybody. "You must have really hit your head," Levy said, sounding concerned still.
"Is there, like… someone I can talk to?"
"Like who?" Jet asked.
"I don't know. What about someplace for me to live?"
"Do you have money?"
"Nope. I don't have shit with me," Ace said, rummaging through his empty pockets. "My name is Ace by the way. Thank you for helping me. But I don't know where I should go now," he said, being upfront and finding no reason or merit to lie about it. It probably made him look like an idiot, but he'd rather look stupid and know what to do than prideful and be clueless about everything.
Droy offered for them to take him to their guild and see if he could get help. "What's a guild?" The three rose their eyebrows, and told him it was a place where wizards worked at, earning money for doing jobs. It was also a place where people gathered to hang out.
"Wizards? Whoa, magic exists here? Or is it just a name and doesn't have anything to do with magic?" Levy told him magic did exist. "Whoa, cool. I wanna see," he said brightly, distracted from his memory loss and no plan on what to do or where to go. Who he could talk to. He had a feeling he didn't really talk to other people much. But he was speaking conversationally just fine.
He followed them, still pretty wet and dripping. His boots were full of water. His hair was pasted to his face. "You're still soaking," Droy said. Ace commented he'd dry easily. Jet grinned and said he'd take care of it. Ace blinked, and wondered what was going to happen when he was picked up, despite being 6'1 and taller than Jet.
Then Jet started running as fast as he could, and Ace dried instantly. He was put down, and felt like he was going to vomit, but he held it in. "Blegh, thanks, I'm all dry now," Ace said, face green. His hair was a mess now, and he ruffled it with his hand, but it was still a disaster. At least he was dry now, though. That was nice. "Was that magic?"
"Of course."
"Is everybody fast?" Ace wondered. "If so, why is everyone walking so slow? Why would you ever walk at a normal pace if you can be hella fast?" he wondered curiously. Levy giggled at him, so Ace assumed he'd said something dumb, but wasn't sure what. Jet grinned and said it was only him that could run. "Why do you walk normal, then? You'd save so much time just running everywhere."
"I wouldn't be able to travel with friends or anything. Besides, I'd get tired eventually."
"You could drag a wagon behind you or something," Ace mused. "That would solve your problem." Jet said he didn't have a problem that needed solving. "Still would be convenient, huh? So, everyone has magic?"
They were surprisingly patient with him, despite seeming amused at the same time. Since they were helping him, he didn't mind if they thought he was stupid. He was, in a way, not knowing anything about... anything, really. He was lost, like a child without its parent. He couldn't even remember if he had family. That was sad.
Droy said, "Not everyone has magic. Wizards are the minority."
"Hmm. For some reason, I'd expect wizards to have beards and a pointed hat. And a magic wand. Are you guys the only one who don't have that look?" he asked. Levy giggled again, and Ace really did feel stupid. He didn't mind, though. He wanted help, and he seemed unable to not sound like an idiot besides just being quiet. But he was so curious!
Levy said that was an old stereotype. "Oh, okay. So there are no magic wands?"
"Man, you really don't know anything, do you?" Jet asked, sounding exasperated. Ace brightly said he didn't remember anything. But that just made everything he learned that much more interesting. "You're surprisingly cheerful considering you have no memory. Doesn't it bother you?"
Ace shrugged. "I don't really have anything to miss. I do realize I'm clueless due to your reactions to what I say." They looked guilty. "It's okay, I think I'm probably an idiot, too." The three laughed, but it didn't seem at his expense this time.
Levy commented, "You're more cute looking than stupid. Your freckles," she said, pointing to his cheeks. He couldn't see them, and was interested that he had freckles. He couldn't remember anything about himself, not even his appearance. Jet and Droy looked annoyed by Levy's words. Ace just thanked her for the compliment.
"Do you always go around half naked?" Droy asked, sounding more sour now. Ace shrugged. Though he felt a shirt would be stifling. "Well, here, people usually wear more clothes. Besides Gray." Ace assumed it was a person and not just the color. Ace lightly said he would put on a shirt if that was a problem, but he didn't exactly have any spare clothes. "That's true, I guess."
"Gray's clothes could probably fit him," Levy said. They then turned down a street, with each one looking the same as the other. All cobblestone buildings. This place looked kind of boring, but nice and clean. He didn't see trash anywhere. "That's our guild building. We're Fairy Tail."
"Like a story?" Ace wondered. "Then it would make sense to have a staff and robe, wouldn't it?" Jet corrected him, that the "tale" in the title wasn't a story, but an actual tail. "Do fairies have tails?" he asked in interest. Levy smiled and said nobody knew. They walked up to the large building, Ace wondering what other wizards were like. And what their magic was like.
When they entered, this was a loud place. Seemed lively, too. As they headed inside, a fight broke out between a couple of people, one who was half naked like him. Maybe that was Gray. Ace looked more defined than him, based on the mirror he walked past on the wall and got a glance at himself. He did indeed have a lot fo freckles on his face and shoulders.
He walked up to the bar with the others, and took the hint to sit down. "This sure is a loud place," Ace mentioned. Levy waved her hand, saying it was normal. There was always someone being loud and challenging someone else to a fight. Ace did wonder how they got so many tables if they were often destroyed. And how many people came away from these fights injured.
Ace's attention was brought back to the bar, seeing all sorts of alcohols behind the counter. It really was a bar. He knew what that was for some reason. He'd rather just have water. And to take a shower, he felt salty and crusty, like he'd been in the ocean. Which was odd, since there was no beach nearby.
"Who is this?" a girl with long white hair and a fancy pink dress asked.
"I'm Ace. Pleasure to meet you," Ace said politely. She smiled, and said her name was Mirajane, but she went by Mira. Ace nodded in acknowledgement. Levy spoke, and explained that they found him unconscious in the park and can't remember anything. Not even the fact that there was magic in the world.
"Oh, wow. That's quite the memory loss," Mira said in surprise. "That's unfortunate."
"It's fine. Hopefully it will come back soon," Ace said lightly. This new person was surprised by Ace's positive attitude. "I mean, I'd like to be able to remember things, but I'd rather not be miserable if I can help it. Hah, maybe I'm in denial or some shit," he laughed.
The four smiled, and Ace wondered if he made a good first impression, and they'd help him out. He had no idea what to do next or where to go. He had no sort of money, and was clearly very stupid and clueless. Maybe it would be difficult for him to get a job. He could always just rob people, but that didn't seem like it would go well here. Did he ever steal from people before? He wouldn't say anything about that. It would not be a good look.
"I can ask Master and see if we can do something to help you out," Mira said, putting down what she was holding. Ace thanked her, and she left for a moment before coming back with a very short old man. He looked at Ace curiously. He kind of felt he was missing something on his head. Maybe he lost a hat.
"Are you a wizard, too?" Ace wondered. The "Master" affirmed this. Ace wished he had magic. Just based on what he'd seen by Jet, and hearing about it, it sounded super interesting. The old man said his name was Makarov, and he was the leader of their guild. "Do they always destroy it?"
"They do. But I like my family being lively," Makarov laughed in good nature. He seemed like a kind man, having smile marks around his eyes. Ace wondered what kind of magic he used. "So, you have no memory?" he asked, less jovial now. He was serious, and looked at Ace in some sort of pity.
Ace nodded. "I honestly can't remember anything but my first name. I think I'm seventeen, too," he said. "It's not very helpful knowledge, but at least I know my name, right?" Ace said brightly. "And Levy, I agree, my freckles are cute. I didn't even know I had them. It's so weird." He leaned rested his chin in his hand.
"You don't remember any family?" Ace shook his head. "That's unfortunate."
"Well, hopefully I'll remember. Maybe they're looking for me. I shouldn't go far, perhaps," he replied. "I can't remember what happened to me, but I was wet. Though I feel crusty, so I think it was in the ocean." Levy said there was no beach nearby. "Well, magic exists, right? Maybe I was teleported here or some shit."
Those in the conversation did agree that it was possible. He could not be from Magnolia at all, if he was somehow in the seawater. "Plus, he was soaking wet and laying in the middle of the park, where no water source was nearby," Levy said. She sounded perplexed.
"Could someone have doused him in water?" Mira wondered. Ace said his boots had been full of water, so he didn't think so. He told her like he'd told the others that he thought he had been drowning before he woke up. But he couldn't remember anything but that. "Maybe whoever brought you here saved you. If someone did bring you, that is."
That could be possible. If it was what happened, he was grateful to whoever had done it. There were more sounds of breaking behind him, but none of it was caused by magic, they were just brawling. Everyone in the guild right now looked to be teenagers, maybe around his age. "What a mess," he said bluntly. The others all nodded. Someone walked over, a woman about his age with long red hair and half a suit of armor. Why didn't she have it on her legs, too? Didn't it defeat the point of having armor?
"Who's this?"
"This is Ace. We found him unconscious in the park. He can't remember anything but his name." She looked surprised at this, and sat down next to him, and introduced herself as Erza Scarlet. Ace politely said it was nice to meet her. He turned to the old man and asked if he had any suggestions of where to go, now. He had no idea if he had family or where to find them.
Droy suggested they put up drawings of him around to see if someone recognized him. "Like a lost pet." Mira sighed at that, thinking it was rude, but Ace thought it was a solid idea. If someone knew him, they'd come looking for him. He saw the mess of broken wood and glass, and saw everyone who was in the fight were back to whatever they were doing before.
The mess really bothered him. Maybe he was a neatfreak. With that part of the guild room looking like a disaster and the rest perfectly fine, it bugged him. Like an itch. But he ignored it and turned back around. "It's a good idea. But someone would need to draw me," he said. "I really appreciate the help."
"Well, you can stay here a few days when we put the posters up," Makarov said lightly. Ace grinned and thanked him for being so considerate.
"You seem like a polite guy. As long as you don't wreck my guild further, there's no problem." Ace laughed and said he assumed he was a neat freak. The mess behind him was really bothering him. "Feel free to clean it for us, then!" Makarov laughed. When Ace nodded, the man said he was joking, and Ace had no obligation to clean.
Ace laughed. "We'll just throw a blanket over it or something." He did feel he'd made a good impression. Mira offered to be the one to draw him, and the three that woke him up and were kind enough to lead him there went away from the bar counter. Mira got out a piece of paper, and Ace kept his face straight. She sketched him, and then showed him the drawing beside a mirror. "Holy shit, you're a good artist," he said in surprise. She smiled and thanked him, and said she'd make some copies. Erza asked if he had magic, and he said he assumed he didn't. He didn't even know magic existed. He asked if she could show him some.
Mira transformed into him, and Ace's jaw dropped. Then he looked thoughtful. "Hey, I'm not that bad looking, am I? I must have worked hard to get this defined," Ace commented. Mira asked him if he was checking himself out. "You know what, yes. I am checking myself out," he said honestly. She laughed and went back to her original form. "Is it like, you transform into a man - you know - everywhere?"
"I will not be answering that question."
"Like a hermaphrodite or something-"
"Please, no more," she said, her face bright red. Ace just laughed, and promised to not bring it up again. "So, Levy said you do jobs, right? What kinds of jobs? Is that how you make money?" Mira made copies of the poster with some sort of magic while he watched in awe. It was fascinating.
Nodding, she explained that the jobs were tasks other people wished to have done by wizards. Things they could only pull of with magic. "Some jobs pay very well, and others not so much. So the people in our guild often form teams and go out to jobs. Then they come here to get the compensation for completing one.
"Though, often they don't receive the money due to destroying what they were supposed to fix or take care of."
"Well that sounds counter productive," Ace replied. Mira agreed, but it was normal there. "Then how does anyone employ you guys?"
"Hmm, well, Fairy Tail is one of the strongest guilds in the kingdom. And also perhaps the people that employ us are idiots," she giggled. "But we're grateful for any money. Each payment comes with some taxes paying for things for the guild. Like repairs and supplies or food." Ace wondered if she went on jobs. "I'm a retired wizard."
"Well, I guess waiting at a bar is charming in its own right," Ace commented. The young man then said adventure sounded fun. "I can't see myself just waiting around here too long. Traveling sounds interesting," he added. "I'd like to go on an adventure."
Mira gave him a glass of water without him asking, which he was grateful for. She replied that, if he was a wizard, then he could see if he could join the guild. "You seem friendly enough. And if you are a neat freak, then you wouldn't break anything, which would be very much appreciated." Ace said it would be cool to be a wizard. "We can test it if you'd like to find out," she offered. Ace jumped on this, and accepted.
"Often, magic comes from the hands. Try putting your hands out and expecting magic to come out. Any type, don't assume. Usually you can tell if someone has magic power, but with you losing your memory, you may not remember, maybe your body doesn't even remember," she explained. Ace turned in the stool and put his hands out. "Now imagine anything happening. Don't expect, just imagine something."
Ace nodded, and fire burst out of his hands and caught the bar on fire. "Ah! Oh no! Shit!" But the fire, before spreading, was sucked back into his hands. "Hey, that's pretty handy. Though fire seems kind of dangerous. How'd I get that power?" Mira looked kind of shocked, and the guild went silent. Ace heard nobody else talking. Maybe they didn't notice he was someone new.
Levy was excited that he had magic, and ran over. "Can he stay, then? He seems really nice! And clean, too!" she said, hanging off of his arm. Mira looked troubled, but then smiled.
"Well, he can control his flames enough to put them out," she said, a sweat bead on her forehead. Ace felt bad, and apologized. "It's fine, really, it caused no severe damage. Besides, it was an accident and you didn't even know you had it," she reasoned. "I can ask the Master. Then you can go out on jobs and make some money. Find out what you want to do in life after that."
She walked away and to find the Master again and ask. Ace looked at the burnt wood in guilt. "I'm really sorry. If I knew I had fire magic, I would have been a lot more careful," he said, sounding regretful. Levy waved it off, and Droy said it was nothing compared to the damage done by the guild's most rowdy members.
"So, you'd be out second fire wizard here. The other is out on a job right now. I wonder who would win?" Jet asked. Ace assumed the other would win, since he knew what the hell he was doing. Ace was just worried he'd fuck something up and burn the place down. Though he was able to put out the flames, too, so that was a huge relief.
Mirajane came back with the Master, who immediately welcomed Ace into the guild. He thanked him with a bow, and asked if there was somebody who could just… explain the world to him. It wouldn't do to go out on a job and not know basic things. Erza, who left and then came back, offered to school him on some basic knowledge.
Really appreciating this, he bowed in thanks again. "Come with me, I'll show you the ropes." Ace agreed and went to one of the non-destroyed tables, and she told him to wait, which he did. It wasn't long before she came back with a thick book. Would she read the whole thing to him? That would probably take a long time. "This book is about modern society."
She opened page one, and Ace prepared himself for the long haul. Well, he was just thankful someone was willing to teach his seemingly dumbass. He didn't recognize many of the things in the book, and was more fascinated by it all than bored by the reading. He felt like a child being read to, but he didn't recognize the feeling before.
Did he have a family that was looking for him? Or was he all alone? He had no idea. It didn't make him sad one way or the other, so he had a feeling he had been alone, at least during some time in his life, which was kind of sad. But he didn't think about it too much, not wanting to be sad or upset. He pushed it out of his mind and listened patiently.
The freckled teen did ask questions as they went along, which Erza had no problem answering, sometimes going overboard in detail. But the more he knew the better prepared he was to actually live here, in this unfamiliar place. He sure was lucky about who found him.
When people returned to the guild for dinner, which wasn't organized, they just got food served to them, they were interested to find they had a new guild member, which didn't happen too often despite the fact that here was at least a hundred people here based on the size of the place alone. How many tables there were.
Though maybe that was just because of how many broke. The broken one was not taken care of, and it bothered him all night until he finally got up and cleaned the mess up, asking if the wood was salvageable. It wasn't. He wasn't brave enough to burn it inside, so he carried it all outside and to the compost bin that was already filled with broken furniture.
Damn. This place was crazy, wasn't it?
