Naruto: The Rebirth of the Hyuuga: Chapter One; Beginnings
In the beginning, Humans didn't know how to use their chakra and thus used mundane means to wage war.
One day, a human woman by the name of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki had lost her entire family to the attack of a rival family. In great grief and despair, she went insane after barely escaping with her life.
In order to take her revenge, she stole the forbidden god fruit; the fruit of the nature energy fed god tree. No one knew where the tree came from, but according to legend, it was able to grant the one who consumed divine power.
After she ate the fruit, she awoke great power. These powers would be the inherent knowledge on how to manipulate her nigh-infinite chakra, immortality, teleportation, dimensional manipulation, the ability to manipulate her skeletal structure and turn them into bones that turn anything they touch to ash, the manipulation of chakra enhanced wood, and many different abilities granted to her by the Rinesharingan on her forehead and the Byakugan that replaced her eyes.
As Kaguya Ōtsutsuki tried to aid the world and stop fighting with her godly power, she constantly found that normal humans had a problem, they had difficulty understanding each other's hearts, a problem which inevitably lead to conflict.
Her solution was conquering, domination, and fear… It was her that she would gain the moniker of the rabbit goddess and her immense god complex on her campaign to create an enforced peace.
Not but a hundred years later, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki had conquered the entire world, her divine empire spanning all three continents of the planet Chikyū. But even this was met with problems, despite her godly powers, humans still threw themselves at her in gestures of futility; trying to throw off the shackles of her tyranny.
In exasperation, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki delved deeply into her godly powers to find a solution. She eventually created the ultimate genjutsu, the Infinite Tsukuyomi. On the next night of the full moon, she approached the moon in the sky and reflected the infinite tsukuyomi off the moon. This action enslaved and placed all humans on the planet into an endless dream
It was at this time she developed a craving for chakra, slowly draining those attached to the god tree and under the infinite dream to feed her endless appetite for the life energy of others.
Sometime later, she had some in the infinite tsukuyomi create offspring and have them brought in reality as long as they were taught to obey her, venerate her, and routinely sacrifice a certain amount of people to the god tree to feed her insatiable hunger for their lifeforce, their chakra.
Over time those in the infinite dream would turn into white zetsus, the malleable bone-white enforcers of her divine empire who blindly followed her every command without question or hesitation.
One day she ended up falling in love with one of her vassal emperors, a man named Tenji, and eventually had two children with him. These two children, Hagoromo and Hamura Ōtsutsuki, would have a large part to play in the future.
These two children would inherit portions of Kaguya's power. These brothers, however, despite both having massive chakra reserves, had their powers split in half. Hagoromo received a dormant Sharingan, Mangekyou Sharingan, Rinnegan, and singular Rinesharingan. Humura on the other hand would receive god-like control and precision over his chakra, a Byakugan rivaling in power to his mother's, and a dormant Tenseigan.
One day, these two learned of the existence of sapient nature energy-influenced creatures by meeting the toad sage Gamamaru, who convinced them to go into the forbidden pass containing the god tree and its victims.
Hagoromo and Humura, disgusted with their mother, decided then they needed to remove their mother from power to try and imprison her, and if the worst came to pass, kill her. After training in senjutsu with the frog sage Gamamaru, the two confronted their mother who with great disappointment, aimed to kill them and retrieve their chakra.
The battle between Hagoromo and Humura against Kaguya was fierce, permanently reshaping the world and killing millions. This was made all the worse as Kaguya transformed the god tree into the monstrous ten-tails and merged with it.
After years of constant battle, unlocking theirTenseigan and Rinnegan chakra modes, and combining these modes with sage mode to create six paths sage mode, Hagoromo managed to extract the ten-tails essence from his mother and transferred it into himself. From here, he sealed away the body of the ten-tails within the newly created second moon of Chikyū that would be moved into orbiting the pre-existing larger one.
Unfortunately, their mother's schemes were not completely foiled, as a fragment of their mother's soul secretly broke off and manifested as black Zetsu, the extremely loyal third son of Kaguya who inherited her immortality and a limited ability to alter his body and to phase through solid objects.
Black Zetsu's mission was clear: wait out the deaths of his Hagoromo and then manipulate his children and their descendants. As for Homura, a little bit of rigidness and stagnation would limit the power his Chikyū bound descendants would have given to them by the Byakugan.
As for the present, Hagoromo's son Indara was in a fragile mental state right now, might as well get the cogs of destiny turning….
Several thousand years later….
Hikari Hyuuga wasn't born especially high the Hyuuga Clan, sure she was part of the main family, but her immediate family was seen by many as being unofficially part of the branch family due to their relative unimportance and normality.
Her mother Hiomi Hyuuga was a doctor, not a combat ninja but just a doctor who had low to average chakra reserves. This was while her father, Hikaro Hyuuga, was a fairly average chunin ranked ninja with somewhat high chakra reserves.
Thanks to her mother, she was exposed to medical matters at an early age and started to pick up on her mother's habit of gardening and finding new plants to use in healing tonics. She also inherited her father's higher levels of chakra and thus was trained to use her Byakugan and the gentle fist taijutsu style.
One day, Hikari was looking around her mother's office when she wasn't looking just as a curious young five-year-old would. She would find some things she considered to be really cool; exercises on how to create chakra scalpels and a tiny old piece of chakra litmus paper.
As she wanted to become a cool ninja when she grew up, she poured some chakra into the paper, finding she had a water element. From here she would begin training in a unique gentle fist derivative taijutsu style she named the slicing fist that incorporated both her Byakugan and chakra scalpels.
She also worked on tree climbing and basic water manipulation exercises at this time.
One Year Later, when she was six, she met the first bit of resistance from stagnant old traditionalism…
Hikari looked towards a nearby tree and wove the proper hand signs. "Water Style: Water Bullet!" The water bullet then flew out of her water flask and formed an orb of water that slammed in the trunk of the tree, blowing it apart into splitters. 'Yes! That took a very long time to get right!' She really had worked hard on that, now it was time to experiment as she didn't yet have the clearance to see pre-existing water jutsus.
The clan head Hiashi Hyuuga had unfortunately seen her using ninjutsu on the clan compound with his Byakugan and came over to investigate. When he got there, looked down at her in disappointment. "Hikari, what do you think you are doing?" on the surface he might have been stoic, but on the inside, he was furious, how dare this girl dishonor the great Hyuuga clan by using ninjutsu!
"Greetings, Lord Hiashi! I'm practicing my water jutsu! I'm going to be a cool ninja just like my dad when I grow up, so I'm already training!" Hikari said happily. She was sure the great clan head was a cool and powerful ninja who would give her some tips and pointers. Unfortunately, that was not to be.
"Young Hikari, we don't need to use such inferior ninja arts. Our taijutsu is more than enough to show our clan's greatness" Hiashi sneered down at Hikari.
"That's both shortsighted and stupid, Lord Hiashi." Hikari huffed in annoyance. Clearly, the clan head wasn't that close-minded…right?...
Hiashi scowled and gave a death glare toward the young girl "Hikari, you will refrain from ever saying such things to me again, and I am hereby ordering you to cease all studies of inferior ninja arts immediately. Do you understand me?" Such deviations from tradition! It was shameful! He was very lucky to be able to nip this problem in the bud.
'Ninja deceive and trick people, I can practice that here' Hikari thought before deciding to lie to the clan head. "Forgive me lord Hiashi, It won't happen again!" She said bowing in front of him to further sell the illusion of deference.
"And you will stop working on such inferior forms of combat?" Hiashi continued.
Hikari nodded virgiously "Yes lord Hiashi, I will honor the Hyuuga Clan with our superior taijutsu." she said bowing her head 'Shortsighted fool! You're the reason why most Hyuuga are just great ninjas but not legendary ninjas!'
Hiashi looked pleased and nodded "Good," he said before he body flickered away.
'Now I'm going to have to train in secret! I'm going to have to find a secluded area to do so but close enough that ANBU doesn't get suspicious!' Hikari internally groaned. This was going to be a massive pain in the neck to figure out!
Two Weeks Later
Hikari Hyuuga was in a terrible mood and barely keeping her composure, her first instinct was to repeatedly punch the nearest wall, cry in frustration, and curse the shortrsighted stupidity of the Hyuuga Clan. While she was returning to the clan compound after helping to take the trash cart to the waste area, a chore she chose to get some air and work off her frustrations with physical labor, she got lost in thought, scheming at how to find a new training area away from prying eyes when accidentally turned into a back alley. While she was taking a break by leaning against a wall, she activated a secret door.
Eager to explore this new area, she left the empty trash cart behind for now to take a look. She activated her Byakugan to see in the dark corridor. Once inside, the door closed behind her and when she looked back she saw a clear yet dusty activation mechanism for the door. She then went down several flights of stairs that were quickly illuminated with strings of lights hanging from the ceiling; no doubt activated by the motion sensor that shut the door behind her. She would eventually reach the bottom and discovered a massive underground facility that she started looking around. As she did so, she had to admit that whoever used to own this place was both creepy and a genius. There were so many books here! And not to mention a window overlooking a large training area!
Oh, she was definitely going to get a lot of usage out of this place….After some renovation of course. She really needed to get rid of what she could only assume were some kind of strange and dark experiments on floating eyeballs, floating snake corpses, various floating body parts, and other nasty things…. 'Yuck! What kind of creep was this guy?!' She had no idea what any of these creepy things were, but she was going to put them in the nearest storage closet to get rid of them as it would be too suspicious if she properly disposed of them.
A few weeks later, she code-named her training area her 'Playplace' to decide her family was clean and not nearly as creepy. A few weeks of reading later, she found a journal entry on a torn-out piece of notepaper.
'The lovely Sharingan has the ability to project genjutsu on a victim by making eye contact with its tomoe and allows it to send chakra into the victim's brain. However, if my suspicions are correct, then the Byakugan would be far more inclined to the application of genjutsu compared to the Sharingan as the Hyuuga's ability to project their chakra within 359 degrees of themselves over a dozen kilometers or more when fully matured would allow them to effectively cast genjutsu over entire armies with some refinement and experimentation.'
Note to self: try harder to acquire Hyuuga test subjects.
Hikari was horrified, the place she was in used to belong to a mad scientist that tried to kidnap members of her clan?! That being said, she was intrigued by the idea of trying to project genjutsu through her Byakugan…
Two Years Later: Hikari Hyuuga; Age Eight
Hikari could clearly see the unhealthy obsession her playplace's former occupant had with the Uchiha Clan and the Sharingan. That being said, his fascination was not entirely misplaced, it was a fascinating dojutsu...
She knew the Uchiha could copy any non-kekkei-genkai jutsu, and like her clan, considered non-clan jutsu to be inferior. She was sure a list of various non-Sharingan-based genjutsu and non-fire-based ninjutsu would be easy to find within the nearly deserted Uchiha clan compound.
As for Sharingan locked genjutsu, thanks to the snake sanin Orochimaru, gosh that gave her a scare when she actually learned who her playplace's previous occupant was and what he did, these could be cracked through a highly complex sealing array built into some special glasses after feeding chakra into a tiny chakra storage seal that acted as a battery for the chakra that powered them.
Getting into the compound was a lot harder than she originally thought. Luckily the invisibility genjutsu she altered to be cast through her Byakugan got her past the guards. She sighed in relief that there were no Hyuuga within those guards as if there were then they would have caught her. She HAD to learn how to become invisible without relying on genjutsu, and water as it turned out might be the key…
On another note, she got all that she wanted and more from her raid of the Uchiha archives, well not exactly a raid but more of an information-gathering mission as everything she took weren't the originals but transcribed copies. All in all, her first ninja mission was a great success!
She got hundreds of water ninjutsu and various non-sharingan based genjutsu. Oh, and thanks to Orochimaru's glasses she learned many secrets about the Mangekyou Sharingan. For example, the Susanoo that always manifested through the Mangekyou Sharingan no matter the person was definitely something she wanted to figure out a way to recreate someday when she developed the skills and enough chakra reserves.
However, there was one possible jutsu manifestation from the Mangekyou Sharingan that really caught her interest...

Two Years Later: Hikari Hyuuga; Age Eight
On her way walking back from her playplace, she saw a quite disturbing event unfolding that she had never witnessed before. A large mob was chasing an orange-clothed blond-haired boy around yelling death threats and waving broken bottles and kitchen knives.
Not that she would see him or this event occurring before, she really didn't get out much and spent most of her time in the forest to practice genjutsu on various animals, her playplace to practice in general, and the Hyuuga Clan compound where she lived.
Hikari Hyuuga walked up to them and yelled "Hey! What do you criminals think you're doing?! Assault is illegal last I checked, where the hell is the police, or barring that ANBU?!" The hidden leaf village was a military dictatorship, where the hell were the enforcers!
"That's not an innocent child and we're not criminals! This boy is a demon!" Some random civilian yelled at her.
Hikari Hyuuga had an idea and it involved deception. 'Hmm, this situation could become problematic if I am caught red-handed, time for a little deception' she bowed "Of course sir, I'd didn't know, demons are known shapeshifters after all" Oh how she hated lying and pretending to be something else! She knew it was necessary but she still hated it all the same.
The random civilian came up and ruffled her hair in affection. "You're a good kid, now run along while the adults handle the demon. This is no place for children" He then motioned for her to run away with his head.
Hikari Hyuuga nodded and ran off into the bushes 'Bleh! That left a terrible taste in my mouth!' She then went through the proper hand signs and activated her basic invisibility genjutsu channeled without her Byakugan. Unfortunately, using this jutsu without casting it through the Byakugan had a drawback, others could see a faint bit of white where she allowed a hole for eyes to see chakra through.
Hikari Hyuuga jumped into action, using the gentle fist to rapidly knock out the angry mob of civilians.
"Ah!" The mob screamed in horror "Some kind of wraith with white eyes is defending their demonic kin! Attack!" But it was no use, the civilians were quickly dispatched and rendered unconscious by the near-invisible Hikari. She then body flickered away back into the bushes and dropped her genjutsu.
After that, she came back out over to the scared boy to try and console him. "Hey, are you ok?! Why were these adults trying to hurt you?! Why were they calling you a demon?!" That entire spectacle was disgusting, why were these idiotic civilians trying to kill an innocent boy?!
Naruto "But- But, I thought you were like everyone else… That you believed the adults.." he said frantically while looking at the girl with white eyes and shoulder-length black hair that he had never seen before.
"No, I didn't. I was just playing along. I was just too scared to go against so many armed adults and I thought as I want to become a ninja when I grow up, so I thought I should trick them" Hikari Hyuuga had to admit she felt a little bit of satisfaction in the pain she inflicted on those fools…Did that make her a bad person? She certainly didn't think so, those criminals deserved it.
"You want to be a ninja too?! Cool! I'm Naruto Uzumaki, and I'm going to become Hokage; Believe It!" Naruto said excitedly, he finally had a person who wanted to be his friend!
Hikari looked at the boy strangely. This boy couldn't be an Uzumaki, he doesn't have their bright red hair. That being said, his chakra was immense. 'Maybe he's one half or one-fourth Uzumaki?' She thought "Hokage huh? That's a big dream"
Naruto smiled "Thanks! Now, who are you?"
"I'm Hikari Hyuuga, pleased to meet you Naruto"
"Can you play with me sometime?" Naruto said while he looked even happier, Hikari could swear he started bouncing.
"Sure I can, but I gotta get back to the Hyuuga Compound right now. My parents are probably wondering why I'm late" Hikari Hyuuga told him honestly.
"Alright bye!" Naruto said giving a thumbs up before he ran away.
Two Years Later: The Hokage Office
"As ordered, I secretly hung around Naruto with my Sharingan active to discover the identity of the so-called white-eyed wraith genjutsu user. Surprisingly, it was none other than the ten-year-old Hikari Hyuuga!" Kakashi Hatake reported. Honestly, the truth of that whole fiasco was quite a shock.
Hurizen Sarutobi looked directly at him to make sure he heard that correctly. "Hikaro's daughter? A Hyuuga no less, is our mysterious white-eyed wraith? I suspected it was a Hyuuga thanks to the white eyes aspect but I quickly dismissed it because the notion of a Hyuuga using genjutsu is patently ridiculous."
Kakashi was in full agreement. "Yes, Lord Hokage. I agree."
The third Hokage thought about what to do with her and eventually decided
"She is obviously protecting Naruto and is clearly a good friend to him. As long as she doesn't use lethal force, she may continue on her alter ego of the white-eyed wraith. That being said, I want to have her watched closely by ANBU when she is with Naruto."
Kakashi "Yes, Lord Hokage."
Four Years Later: Hikari Hyuuga, Age Twelve.
Ninja Academy; Classroom. Village History Lesson.
"...And thus, the Uchiha clan and Senju Clan made an alliance that would one day become the hidden leaf village. Any questions?" Iruka Umino, Hikari's academy teacher asked the class.
Hikari raised her hand
"Yes, Hikari Hyuuga" Iruka asked her. She always seemed smart, this was likely going to be something constructive.
"You forgot a major part of history from that period of time." Hikari responded. Seriously where were they?! Its almost like their history was purposely erased for some reason! Such disrespect!
Iruka looked at her in curiosity "And what would that be, Hikari?"
"The Uzumaki Clan" Hikari said simply
Iruka was caught entirely off guard by that question while Naruto looked curious "What…"
"You know, the widely famous and infamous clan of red-haired seal masters? The clan that the Senju Can would commonly take, including the first Hokage Hashirama Senju, as wives? You know one of the three founding clans who resided in the hidden whirlpool village in the land of water that was destroyed by the hidden Stone and Mist at the beginning of the second great ninja war?" Hikari went on.
She wasn't going to mention that the fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze also took one, Kushina Uzumaki, as a wife too. That would be too suspicious.
Iruka was openly gaping at this point, that history was supposed to be censored!
"You guys can have the rest of the morning off for an early lunch, I need to speak with the Hokage urgently!' Iruka said in a tightly controlled panic.
"Yay!" Everyone but Skikumaru yelled. As for him, he just sighed and let out a huff that sounded vaguely like "What a drag"
Hokage's Office
Iruka jumped from rooftop to rooftop, quickly reaching the office of the Hokage and coming in through the window.
Hurizen Sarutobi just looked at this display curiously "Iruka Umino, aren't you supposed to be teaching at the academy?"
Iruka decided the best choice he could pick in this matter was to be direct "Hikari Hyuuga has somehow found out about the Uzumaki Clan and spoke out about it, and the lack thereof, during today's history lesson. I let the kids out for lunch early to speak of this with you and what to do going forward."
Hurizen Sarutobi looked at him and sighed "This was bound to happen eventually… Some uncensored history books were bound to have slipped through the cracks, and one just happened to fall into the hands of the highly intelligent and prodigal Hikari Hyuuga..."
Iruka looked at the Hokage in confusion "Prodigal? I mean sure she has excellent chakra control, is adequate with her clan taijutsu, and is highly intelligent; but I wouldn't call her a prodigy like her cousin Neji."
"She's concealing her true strength, I've seen the way she moves when she thinks no one is looking. She moves like a veteran shinobi." The third Hokage responded simply.
"Crystal ball?" Iruka asked
"Crystal ball" the third Hokage affirmed. He wasn't going to mention the fact Hikari somehow managed to find a way around the view of the ball, such a thing would usually require a seal master to achieve.
"What should I do?" He asked. This whole situation was a massive mess!
Hurizen Sarutobi was torn but he eventually decided
"Tell them the truth, but omit everything about Kushina Uzumaki and tell them we honor their memory by giving orphans the Uzumaki surname. Tell them we remove this part of history out of shame for being unable to help them in time."
"Lord Hokage, surely you must know others will catch on that there is more going on than that. Shikamaru Nara, Shino Abarame, and Hikari's Cousin Neji are sure to catch on too!" Iruka said in a panic.
"Shikamaru Nara is too lazy to look into it further, but Shino and the two highly intelligent Hyuugas might pose a problem… Just make sure to clarify our version, say the book Hikari found was outdated." The Third Hokage tied to reason with him.
"Yes, Lord Hokage!" Iruka nodded briefly before he left with a body flicker.
Six Years Later: Hikari Hyuuga; Age Twelve
Hikari Hyuuga was walking down the street to the training yards. Now that she was officially an academy student studying to become a genin instead of just a civilian, she could train in some more open areas. While she still did all of her ninjutsu, genjutsu, slicing fist, poison brewing, kenjutsu, and basic seal creation practices in her playplace; she was currently working on her long-ranged Byakugan enhanced throwing weapons training to later apply to her water ninjutsu.
While what she was currently doing with her Byakugan was quite unorthodox, the clan wouldn't see any real harm in her illusion of only training her Byakugan in such unorthodox ways with standard-issue supplementary weapons such as Shuriken, Kunai, and Senbons.
Right now, her Byakugan had a visual range of five miles, genjutsu that was three miles (No small thanks to the stupid civilians she used as test subjects in her white-eyed wraith persona), and weapons accuracy of two miles.
It was then that she saw Sasuke Uchiha come up next to her in the bushes via her Byakugan. She knew he had been watching her for some time, no doubt wondering why she seemed to be throwing weapons at nothing in particular.
Unlike the rest of her class minus her cousin and clan heir Hinata who clearly had a crush on Naruto, Hikari Hyuuga wasn't a rabid fangirl who wanted to jump in bed with him at the first opportunity. Sure she thought he was quite handsome and wouldn't mind going out with him when he was older, it was very much the last thing on her mind.
"What exactly are you doing, Hikari?" Sasuke knew Hikari wasn't a fangirl so he could reveal himself to her and have a conversation about training. He really wished the rest of the girls in his class actually at least tried to train and put effort into becoming a ninja just like Hikari did. As far as he was concerned, Hikari and Tenten were the only girls in his class that deserved to become kunoichi.
That and they were actually good friends and sparring partners with each other, mostly because she was the only one who could actually challenge him. For some reason though, she hid her true physical prowess and severely underperformed on the academy taijutsu tests.
Hikari turned to him with her Byakugan active "Oh hey Sasuke, finally came out of the bushes to say hi? Took you long enough. I was starting to think you were some kind of stalker."
"Hikari, I'm not a male version of my rabid fangirls." Sasuke scoffed at such an insulting notion.
"I'm well aware of that, I was thinking more along the lines of a male version of my cousin Hinata. She always seems to be watching Naruto and gets really flustered when he comes near her." Hikari replied with a devious smirk.
Sasuke sighed "Look, I don't see what your clan member sees in that idiot, but I'm not like her. I'm here to ask why you've been throwing weapons at nothing for the past few weeks."
"Past few years, Sasuke" Hikari corrected him. "As for what I'm doing, I'm practicing my long-ranged weapon skills. I'm using my Byakugan to send my weapons over a mile away into their target at the training grounds"
And boy was that hard, she managed to find the formula for some resistance seals in her playplace. Ever since that day, she's been upping the level of the resistance seals. Each time that happened, she had to train hard to get her throwing range back up to two miles and beyond. She then picked up another kunai and hit another target from a mile and a half away by using her chakra to augment her strength.
"Huh, never thought of that before. I guess that is something the Byakugan's sight could be used for." Sasuke pondered and had to admit, it was an excellent use of her clan's dojutsu.
"Indeed, it was actually my idea." Hikari replied proudly.
"Really?" that actually threw Sasuke for a loop. How could the Hyuuga clan not think of such an obvious use for their dojutsu?
Hikari nodded "Yeah, the clan elders grumble a bit about it, but they admit it's a good way to use supplementary weapons like these." she said holding up a Kunai.
One Year Later: Gradation. Hikari Hyuuga, age Thirteen
Iruka "...And finally, team seven will be Sasuke Uchiha, Hikari Hyuuga, and Naruto Uzumaki. Your Jounin Sensei is Kakashi Hatake!"
'Thank Kami I'm not stuck with a fangirl!' Sasuke mentally sighed in relief.
Hikari internally groaned 'For fucks sake! We're stuck with the terminally late Kakashi! Sure he's an elite Jounin, but still!'
"Iruka-Sensei, where is our jonin sensei? Everyone else left with their's already." Naruto said while suspiciously looking around.
Before Naruto could answer, Hikari jumped into the conversation.
"My best guess is he's busy 'being stuck on the road of life'" She said making air quotes "It's common knowledge that Kakashi Hatake is terminally tardy. I'd say he's about two to three hours away from here doing Kami knows what." Hikari answered in a mixture of loathing and sarcasm.
Iruka sighed "I'm not sure where you heard that quote or discovered this information, but you are unfortunately completely correct in your assessment."
"Ugh! Two to three hours?! What am I supposed to do for all that time?!" Naruto complained loudly. He needed to get started on ninja stiff to become the Hokage! He couldn't afford to sit around not doing anything!
"Shut it and stop complaining. Idiot! I'm sure you will find something to occupy your empty mind." Sasuke smugly retorted.
