Prologue

A bandaged hand fumbled as an exhausted teenager tugged herself up from the bottom on the well she'd landed in. Before her hand could slip from the splintered wood of the well, a stronger one caught it and pulled her up the rest of the way, much to her relief. Once she was up from the well, she sat on the side of it with a sigh, blue eyes landing on the yellow bag her companion had carried out for her. given her battle-worn state.

"That… was horrible," she groaned, burying her face in her hands. The scratchy bandages rubbed at her skin the wrong way, but she couldn't find it in her to care. The spot beside her on the lip of the well was soon occupied, and she slowly pulled her hands back to glance at the silver-haired half-demon at her side, a small smile appearing on her face.

"It fucking sucked, Kagome. Come on, say it the right way," Inuyasha grumbled. She stifled a laugh at his crass way of saying it, and she nodded.

"Okay, okay, you're right," she said. The ears on top of his head twitched a few times as he turned to face her. Before he could say anything else, he took in the glint of utter exhaustion preset in her eyes. She almost looked like she was going to fall asleep any second now, no matter where she was. He sighed and stood up, glaring at her as he gripped her yellow bag with one hand, pulling it to rest on his shoulder, and he motioned towards her, much to her surprises. "Eh?"

"What do you mean, Eh?" he scoffed, amber eyes narrowing at her. "Get up, I'll carry you in. You're tired, ain't you?"

She was taken aback by his offer, but she wasn't about to overlook his gesture of kindness. Her surprise morphed into a smile as she pushed herself back up onto her aching legs, stumbling forward into his already open arms. He scooped her up bridal style, carrying her securely against his chest as he all but kicked the door to the well house open.

Kagome flinched at the loud slam of the door opening, holding back her urge to sigh when she realized what it was a second after it happened. She glared at the half-demon carrying her and rolled her eyes. "Watch it, why don't you?"

Inuyasha scoffed in response. "Tch… yeah, yeah," he said as he toted her to the shrine, where he, thankfully, used a bit more tact to open the main door. It didn't take long to place the empty home, and after taking a few sniffs of the place, he tilted his head to the side. "Huh? No one's here."

Kagome glanced back up at his face with her own curious hum. "They must've gone out…" she said. Well, it didn't surprise her. After all, she doubted they'd suspect her to be back now. The final fight against Naraku had been so sudden. "I'm positive they'll be back soon." She couldn't sense anything strange, and she could tell Inuyasha hadn't placed any unfamiliar scents, so she was able to remain at ease.

He nodded and took to carrying her up the stairs and to her room. Before he could get there, Kagome tapped his arm to get his attention, and he came to a halt.

"Actually… I think I'm gonna get a bath," she said, and she gestured for him to set her back on her feet. He huffed and compiled, keeping a hand at the ready in case she fell. "I really need to get the dirt and dried blood cleaned off," she said.

"Oh, sure," Inuyasha responded.

Kagome beamed up at him as she made her way to the bathroom. "You can wait in my room if you want. I should be fine." Her wounds had mostly healed, so she wasn't too worried about them reopening.

She closed herself in the bathroom as Inuyasha went to wait for her in her room. She wasted no time in removing the traditional miko garb she wore. Her school uniform had gotten torn to shreds during the fight, and it regrettably had been entirely unable to salvage.

Carefully undoing the bandages, she deposited them in the trash can, silently observing the marks left behind. There was one on her side where she'd gotten sliced by one of Naraku's tentacles that had yet to heal. Her body was purifying the poison from the wound, and she could tell that it would follow suit with her other injuries in no time.

Turning away from her reflection and observation of her wounds, she went to run the water. Settling down in the tub, she let out a sigh, the warmth of the water soothing her tired muscles in all the best ways.

It was finally over.

The thought settled into the back of her mind as she looked up at the ceiling. With Naraku's demise, the jewel had been put back together. It felt so surreal to her, and she didn't know how to process it. It'd been such a hectic time for her and for the friends she'd made.

The jewel resting between her collar bones on a string made of twine was enough proof.

Kagome closed her eyes and let the back of her head rest on the edge of the tub, bending her knees slightly so she could sink more of her body in the water.

What was next for her?

It was such an imposing question. One she didn't want to think about. At least, not for now. She lifted an arm from the water to let it drape over her closed eyes, droplets of water dripping down from it.

Right now, all she wanted to do was enjoy the peace that came with not needing to fight anymore.

Once she finally got out of the bath, she went to find her companion. She didn't have to search long or hard, finding him right where she said he could be. She pushed her door open all the way, hair pinned back in a sloppy bun as she watched him curiously.

"What are you up to, Yasha?" she asked when she saw him occupied with a large book. Had he found one of her photo albums out of boredom? She came over to him and sat down on her bed next to his crossed legs, glancing at the book on his lap. The color drained from her face when she saw what seemed to have caught his attention.

Without waiting, Inuyasha looked up at her, confusion evident in his eyes as he motioned towards a photo one the page he looked at. "Hey, Kagome, that's you, isn't it?" he asked, a clawed finger tapping on the photo of a girl with white hair. It was definitely her, he knew. Despite the difference in age, the little girl looked just like Kagome. "I've never seen this before…" he continued to mumble, only to fall silent when Kagome gripped the photo album and yanked it from his grip. He jolted when she swiped it from him, turning to look at her. "Huh? What's the big de-!" Any question or challenge he had died upon spotting her paled expression. He froze, his expression shifting into a softer one. "... Kagome?"

"..."

"What's up?"

Kagome let her gaze linger on the photo in question before she abruptly slammed the album shut. "... yes, that's a photo from when I was really young," she said, her tone getting a bit cold. Inuyasha frowned and prodded gently at the side of her head.

"So what happened to the white hair?"

"I colored it," she responded as she stood up to put the photo album away. Really, of all the ones to get, he had to choose this one? Ugh! Why did she even have it still?!

"Yeah?" Inuyasha followed her up. "I don't think I've ever seen the other people in that book," he said. "Are they more of your family?"

Kagome froze as she put the album back in its proper place, downcasting her gaze with a weak nod. "A-Ah… yeah, something like that."

The sudden scent of salt came to linger in the air, and Inuyasha flinched, immediately going into guard dog mode. He circled around her, narrowing his eyes when he saw her holding tears back. "What's wrong?" His voice was gruff as he gripped her arm, tugging her to look at him.

Kagome shook her head, forcing her tears away, as she offered him a smile meant to be reassuring. "It's nothing, really," she said, but she could tell he didn't buy into her words.

"You know I can tell when you lie, right?" he deadpanned. Kagome sighed. She moved out of his grip and went to sit on her bed, waiting for him to come join her. He did, not even a full second after. "... It's got to do with the people in that book, doesn't it?"

Kagome nodded faintly. "You see, the people in those photos, they're my birth family," she said, and she saw the confusion on Inuyasha's face. A strained smile appeared on her face as she bowed her head. "When I was younger, I…- my father gave me to Kun-Loon because I wasn't wanted."

"Huh? Wasn't wanted?" Inuyasha's confusion was easy to place, and she nodded slowly.

"Well, maybe that's not the right choice of words…" she trailed off, placing a finger to her chin as she thought over a more accurate way to phrase it. "To my father, I was a failure worse than any other, and he refused to accept me."

Despite her eerily, light-hearted tone, Inuyasha felt a sort of anger he'd never felt before. "Who the fuck let 'em decide that?!" Kagome's eyes widened when Inuyasha angrily crossed his arms, glaring down at her. She smiled and patted his arm gently.

"It's okay, I don't care about that," she said, hoping to calm him. In the beginning it might've bothered her, but now she couldn't find it in her to care. After all, why bother? Sure, sometimes when she thought about it, she got so sad and upset, but it was never for that reason.

"... but why?" Inuyasha asked, and she glanced at him with widened eyes. A second later, her expression softened into a smile.

"Do you remember the time I explained to you about my era?" she asked. "About how so many people have these powers known as Quirks?" he nodded, and she continued. "When I was little, mine never showed, and, so, it was assumed that I was born without one. It's not common, but it's not impossible," she said.

Her Quirk had eventually shown, long after what was considered normal. It seemed to be tied to her spiritual abilities, so when they finally awoke due to getting pulled down the well, so did her Quirk.

"My father refused to accept a child of his that didn't have a Quirk," she continued. "So he wouldn't. He gave me away to Kun-Loon."

"Tch… bastard," Inuyasha was angry for her. He couldn't understand how she was so calm about it, but the more he thought about it, he steadily realized it had happened long ago for her. Kagome laughed.

"Oh, he totally is!" she exclaimed. "Personally, I can't stand him. Whenever I see his mug on the TV I change the channel."

When her Quirk finally appeared, she could remember Kun-Loon offering to contact him on the off chance that she might want to go back to her biological family. She rejected the idea instantly, much to the woman's obvious joy and relief.

Kun-Loon cried and held her, admitting a part of her feared the possibility.

"He willingly gave me up because I lacked what he wanted out of me. I'll never want his approval, nor do I need it. I'd much rather stay with the family that accepted me, flaws and all."

She fully meant those words, too.

She bid farewell to Inuyasha as he left back through the well. She'd already said her goodbyes to the rest of her companions on the other side, and she was already missing them. This had to be done, though.

She let her energy flow out, a binding seal getting placed on the well to prevent any more travel through either side.

After all, a portal that led to five-hundred years in the past was a precarious thing. There was no telling if and when someone else might gain access to it. Right now, only her and Inuyasha were able to go through, but she didn't want to take any chances.

He promised that he'd find her again when the time came, and she held him to that. He was her stubborn best friend, after all. She couldn't get rid of him, even if she tried.

As the well fully sealed, a half-smile appeared on her face.

Just like that- it was all said and done.

What a relief.

Auroua-chan: Personally, I can't wait for Kagome and Shoto to meet again. (That, and her other siblings.) For reference, she was about 5 when she was given to Kun-Loon.
Kagome's Quirk will be shown soon.

Pairing is up for debate. Kagome and Inuyasha will have more of a sibling/bestfriend energy, so they won't be considered for the pairing. He and some other demon friends of Kagome will make appearances very soon!

Anyway, that's it for now. Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
