A/N: Hi guys! I edited chapter one, hope you like it!

Izuku was super hyped! Today, he was finally going to find out what his quirk was! Although his classmates and friends had already shown signs of quirks, he hadn't. So today they were going to the doctor to find out what quirk he was going to get. He hoped it was something that was suited for hero work, like fire breath from his dad! Still, it didn't matter what quirk he got. He was going to be a hero!

"Izuku! It's time to go!" The kind voice of his mother, Inko came from downstairs. Hurriedly, he got dressed and ran downstairs. Soon, they reached the clinic. Usually, Izuku didn't like clinics, coming here meant he was sick one way or another. The smell of antiseptic and the overly clean walls unsettled him. However, today was different. Today he was getting a quirk! So, he was good and did what he was told as the doctor ran all sorts of tests over him. He didn't even protest when he was told to put his feet in a big, scary machine.

"You should give up."

The All Might figure Izuku was holding clattered to the ground. His mind was numb as he tried to process what the doctor said. Give up? What did the doctor mean? Why couldn't he be a hero? He vaguely heard his mom and the doctor talk. His ears only heard one word. One word that shattered all of his dreams.

Quirkless.

He didn't have a quirk. Somewhere in his mind, Kacchan's voice appeared. "We're definitely gonna become heroes together!" The blond boy swore.

Gone.

Broken.

Those dreams, those promises, all shattered to pieces with his once hopeful heart. Everything was a blur. He didn't know when he had come home. By instinct, he clicked on the bookmark of the All Might debut video. He was quirkless. Quirkless meant useless. He couldn't be a hero. A creak of the door, quiet footsteps creeping in. The sound of All Might laughing rang in his ears.

"Mom," he said, his voice trembling, "He saves everyone with a smile on his face. He's an awesome hero." Tears began building in his eyes. Turning around, he pointed at the screen. "Can I... Be like him too?" Please, say yes, he silently begged, clinging on to the tiniest thread of hope.

His mom pulled him in a tight hug, bursting into tears. "I'm sorry, Izuku!" His mom sobbed. The tears he held in for so long flowed down his cheeks. Whatever hope he had left disappeared. The fire that burned bright in his eyes was extinguished, leaving his bright green eyes dull and lifeless.

The next day, Izuku slowly made his way to kindergarten, his heart heavy with dread. What would his classmates think if they knew he was quirkless? What would Kacchan think? They had promised to be heroes together. But now that promise would never be fulfilled. Would he even want to be friends with someone quirkless?

Sure, Kacchan had become meaner to other kids lately, and he was always showing off his quirk, but that didn't mean he'd ditch Izuku just for being quirkless... Right?

"Izuku?"

A worried voice interrupted his thoughts. His mom was looking at him anxiously. Startled, he realized they had already reached the kindergarten while he was lost in thought. He forced a smile on his face and said as cheerily as he could, "See you after school, mom!" And ran off before she could say anything.

"Hey, Izuku!" A red-eyed boy with spiky blond hair yelled happily when he entered the classroom, running towards the green-haired boy and bear hugging him. Surprised, he stumbled a little. "Kacchan!" Bakugo released him and said excitedly, "So? What did you get? Fire breath from uncle Hisashi or telekinesis from auntie Inko? Or maybe a super-cool mix of both like pyrokinesis?"

"Actually, I'm q-quirkless." Izuku's heart pounded. What would they think of him now? The reactions were immediate. "Quirkless? What a loser." "My dad said they're, like super rare. He's weird." "He's a quirkless freak? We shouldn't play with him. He'll contaminate us or something."

Bakugo was the only one who hadn't said some sort of negative comment yet. Of course, nobody wants me now, Izuku thought, lowering his head.

"Shut up, you damn extras! Who cares if he has a quirk or not!" Bakugo yelled. Izuku couldn't believe his ears. His mind whirled. Why did Kacchan care? "But that loser's quirkless! Quirkless people can't do anything, much less be a hero like he wants to!" Someone protested.

"Who said quirkless people can't be fucking heroes?" Bakugo growled with terrifying viciousness. Izuku froze. "Just because there hasn't been any quirkless heroes before doesn't mean it's impossible." Bakugo snapped, glaring towards the person who said it, before turning his gaze to Izuku. "Don't listen to them, damn nerd, you're going to become an amazing hero!" Tears welled in his eyes and he hugged Bakugo tightly. "Oi, what are you doing!" He wasn't useless. He was going to be the first quirkless hero ever!
