ONE

From the day I was created, I was prepared for this. To escort souls to their happiest place. I just had to wait a few thousand years to be waked up.

Everything I know is what he knows. That means I know what happened before I woke up. I know about demons and monsters, just like I know that my home is now a better place than before. Everyone can now live in peace, in absolute harmony. It's no longer ruled by angels, trying to overflow God. All we do is bring comfort to everyone.

He even created us the way humans imagine us to make it easier for them to adjust. He even gave us the ability to feel like humans, but we need to learn it.

I know I have brothers and sisters so much older than me, and a lot of them fell during the time before my father was born and even when he was on the earth for a few years. Not all of them agreed with my father to be the new God, but in the end, they had to obey, and now we are all equal, no matter when we have been awakened.

I have never spoken to a human before, so I'm curious how it will be. Will it be pleasant or rough because the human can't quite understand what is happening to him? Will it be boring or funny? Maybe that depends on the human and his character.

All these thoughts show me how similar my father created us as humans. It is a human thing to have doubts and anxieties, but my father gave this to us to be more empathic.

And today is my day. My father knew he would come sooner or later, and it sounded like he was sad about the fact he is coming but happy at the same time.

And now he is calling for me to give me my last instructions.

"Evangeline, in a few minutes, you will start your first job. Are you excited?"

"Yes, of course, Mylord," I answer, bowing my head a little.

His face turns with amusement when he replies:" I told you, no one needs to call me Mylord. Jack is more than enough."

"Yes, Mylord." I stutter before I correct myself. "Jack."

I look at him and see him smiling. "Evangeline, the soul you are going to accompany, is essential to me, and I want you to do everything he wants and needs. Especially because he wont be lead here, he has to find the way on his own." Since the last Death was killed, Jack let the souls find their way up here alone, and we have to welcome them at the new heavenly gate.

"Really everything?" I ask him. "I thought there are some rules for the souls in heaven?"

"There are, but not for him." And before he goes on talking, he thinks about his following words. "I will tell you something." And Jack stands up from his chair. "He is one of my fathers."

I look at him, confused. "Your father? But aren't you sad, he is going to come?"

"I m, but you know I was his child first and do miss him."

"I understand."

Jack strokes over one of my cheeks while he says: "No, you don't, but I appreciate the fact you try." Smiling, he approaches the door to open it for me. "That is what I want you to do. Try, and later, you will understand. It's not hard to understand humans."

"I hope so," I answer and approach the door. Before I can step out of his office, he lays a palm on my shoulder. "Evangeline, I feel you are afraid and nervous. On the one hand, that's good because it means I managed to make the angels more human, and on the other side, I believe you take your responsibility seriously."

"I do, really," I reply and feel something like a fire in my face. My fingertips rush to my cheeks, and I can sense the hotness on my skin.

"What you now feel is pride." My father senses what kind of thoughts are going around in my head. And now, a new feeling rushes through my stomach. Smiling, Jack continues: "And that is Shame." He locks his eyes with mine, and even his face was never anything then friendly, I can only hardly stand his gaze. "Evangeline, believe me, all these feelings are normal, and you will learn how to read them. Dont worry."

"Yes, I will keep that in mind," I answer quietly.

"But now, you should leave. Many souls are coming today, as always, and we can not afford a jam at the gates, only because Im the reason you are late. Hurry now."

He kisses me on the forehead, and I nod, rushing out of his office.

Jacks words echo through my head. Are all these feelings normal? Maybe I have to find out.

I stretch out my wings and fly towards the heavenly gates.

Here in heaven, the sun always shines. We see the rain only from above when it pours down to earth. I want to feel rain pouring over me. I think it's a good feeling. Maybe someday, Jack will let it rain in heaven. But he prefers the sun.

From far away, I recognize my brothers and sisters around the gate, waiting for the new arrivals. I see souls stepping through the gate. Most of them are confused at first, especially when they are young. The older souls mostly walk in here with a smile on their faces. Maybe they know they will finally see their loved ones again, like their parents.

But spotting a child pinches my heart. These tiny creatures seem so lost here. For the kids, some angels are trained special because, for a while, they replace their parents. But not long later, the kids adjust and do really have some fun here. Some laughs echo almost through the whole heaven.

"Hello, Evangeline." I hear a voice greeting me.

"Hello, Atara," I answer, smiling. "Who do you catch today?" I ask her.

"An elderly Lady, she died peacefully in her sleep." Atara answers. "I will bring her to her husband."

"She is going to be very happy," I reply.

"I think so too. Who are you for here?"

"As far as I know, he is one of Jacks fathers."

"Oh really? So, are you nervous?" she asks me, and I guess it's something like curiosity I can see in her face when she goes on speaking: "I would be so nervous, catching one of Jacks fathers, but maybe you are still a little too young for that feeling."

"I do have a feeling, but I'm still not sure what it is."

"Does your heart beat faster? A somehow strange feeling in the area around your stomach?"

"Yes, how do you know?"

"It was what I felt the first time."

"Is it long ago?" I ask her. I really want to know more about this feeling thing.

"Oh, sorry, Evangeline, I need to go." Atara points to the gates. A woman steps through, and Atara rushes over to greet her. The woman smiles a big smile, and she and Atara walk away.

I spy the other angels around me, maybe I can copy something from them. They all approach the souls with a smile, of course, they hug and even kiss the humans on their cheeks.

Unfortunately, I can't hear what they are talking about, and there are way too many people.

Angels and souls start to walk away while I stay and stare at the gates.

Then I experience something for the first time again.

The scene changes; I'm now standing in the middle of hills and trees. My gaze shoots to the place the gates were seconds before, and now a man is standing there.

And again, a first for me. He looks around himself, and when he spots me and locks his gaze with mine, it feels like the air is pressed out of my lungs, and my stomach is falling out of my body. It's as if the time would stand still for a few seconds, and I have no idea if this is the usual feeling you get, catching up a soul?

He still stares, and I wake up from my numbness. I try to shake the feeling away and smiling, I start to approach him. But before I can get any nearer than a few steps, he stops my movement with his palm holding up.

I stop walking, and before I can say a single word, he asks: "Who the hell are you? And where the hell am I?"

His voice is deep and rough. His tone is demanding.

So I answer: "I'm Evangeline, and this is your heaven." My hand makes a motion to the landscape around us.

"My what?" His eyebrows shoot up.

"I'm sorry to tell you, but you are in heaven. Unfortunately, you died." I reply, still a smile on my face.

I start walking towards him, seeing how his brain tries to figure out what has happened. He now let me reach out to him. Even I'm an angel, my father made me small, at least in comparison to this man. I take him in a warm embrace, but his body remains still in the welcoming hug.

While holding him, I smell his human scent, but of course, I can't tell what it is exactly. I can only say that I enjoy the fragrance.

Finally, I let go of him, my palms placed on his shoulders. But he turns away from me and starts to look around, like searching for someone. But when he can't find anybody, the expression on his face turns from confusion to desperation. His palms drive through his hair while tears start to wet his eyes.

"No, no, no," he speaks out quietly. "What happened?"

I clear my throat and say: "Unfortunately…" but he won't let me finish my sentence. Instead, he yells at me: "I fucking know what happened. That was a hypothetical question."

I don't know what he means by this phrase, so I try to change the topic. "Is there anyone you want to meet?"

"What?" he snaps back.

"Well, you can visit any person you want to."

"Then, bring me back to my brother." And his words are not a please.

"I'm sorry, I can't do that." I start to get a feeling about this human that wants to make me go away as far as I can. And at the same time, I'm so intrigued by the number of feels I saw in him and felt since I met him.

"So?" he asks, "what are you here for then?" He stares me down.

"I'm the angel to accomplish you until you get used to your life in heaven."

"Which idiotic idea was that? And where are all the rooms and corridors?"

"Jack recreated heaven…"

"Yeah, I can see that."

"It's better now. You will see." I stretch out a hand, trying to make him come with me.

"And now we holding hands? What is wrong with this place?"

I can feel something in my throat, which makes it hard to swallow. There is a sharp feeling in my nose and eyes, and my vision is blurry for a second. The way he acts and talks to me makes me feel like this. And I think no one should feel like this because of another soul.

It seems like he recognizes what his words are doing to me, and with his arms wide open, he speaks up: " Ok, ok, you know what, I'm sorry, I know it's not your fault, it just sucks…"

"Being dead." I finish his sentence.

He breathes out heavily and nods: "And what now?"

"Well, "I answer, " you can visit family members, or you can just do what you want," I explain.

"Anyone?" he asks.

"Anyone."

And he doesn't hesitate to say: "Bobby." and just a few inches away, a cabin appears. Small, but it looks comfy.

Dean starts walking towards the building, and I follow him. On the patio is sitting a man with a cap, seeing him Dean's steps getting faster until he reaches the stairs.
