Welcome to the beginning of the fourth arc of Cyber Ranger. It's time I kept a promise I made at the beginning of all this and included certain characters to this story. Also after some consideration I decided it was time to put aside the "Pokemon/Digimon from Cyber Sleuth and Guardians Signs only" rule. So I hope you enjoy this new adventure through Oblivia.
I DO NOT OWN POKEMON RANGER GUARDIAN SIGNS OR DIGIMON STORY CYBER SLEUTH. THE GAMES THIS FANFIC IS BASSED ON AND THE IMIGES USED FOR THE COVER WERE CREATED NINTENDO AND BANDAI NAMCO.
Three months had passed since the battle in Oblivia. Ben and Summer were continuing their Ranger duties in Almia. But at the moment Ben and Ukulele Pichu were hurrying down Union Road.
"An urgent call from Hastings…What could it be about?" Ben asked looking at his partner.
"Pichu?" The Pokemon hurried at his side.
Ben looked up and saw someone's back. He yelped as he tried to stop himself, but still bumped into him. "Gyah!" The young man was hit from behind and stumbled.
"Whoops! Sorry!" Ben said. "You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. Sure." The young man turned around. He had black hair and wore a blue hoodie and had some kind of visor around his neck. "That uniform…It looks a little like what the Pokemon Rangers were wearing…"
"I am a Pokemon Ranger. This is just a different model."
"I see…"
"There you are." Their attention was brought to a man walking up to them. He had purple hair, a sleeveless green top, and sandals. He had a hoodie like the younger mans but he had it wrapped around his waist. "What are you doing, wandering around out here?"
"Oh, Ryuji." The younger man replied. "Sorry, just needed some fresh air."
The man looked at Ben. "Hmm? Are you a Pokemon Ranger? That uniform's a bit different…"
"That I am." Ben nodded. "I'm Ben Natsuya. And this is my partner Pichu."
"Pi!" Ben's partner jumped.
"You're Ben Natsuya?" the man named Ryuji asked.
"You heard of me?"
"You could say that. I'm Ryuji Mishima, and this guy is Keisuke Amasawa."
"Nice to meet you." Keisuke smiled.
"Likewise." Ben nodded.
"Pichu! Pichu!" Ben's Pokemon jumped up and down.
"What's up pal? Oh, right! We need to hurry! Nice meeting you two, bye!" Ben hurried past the two and down the path.
"So that's Ben Natsuya." Ryuji said.
"Didn't think he'd be my age." Keisuke said, putting his hands his pockets.
"We should head back. Once he gets back to the Union it won't be long until we depart."
"Right."
Summer and Staraptor were waiting in the briefing room when Ben and Pichu came in. "Hey, Summer."
Summer smiled when she saw him. "Oh, Ben. You even still have a tan. Well, so do I, actually."
"Aw! Trying to build some small talk?" A nearby girl with spikey pigtails giggled. She had a red short sleeve vest, over a mostly black uniform with shorts and a white middle on the shirt. Tighter shorts were poking out of the legs of her baggier shorts, going halfway down her thighs and she wore fingerless black gloves with her Styler mounted on her right wrist. "You're such a sweat talker, Summer!"
Summer blushed a bit and glared at the Ranger with the Starly. "You be quiet, Kate."
Ben looked in Kate's direction. There were two other Rangers with her. One with brown hair that made a spike on the top with a Pachirisu on his shoulder and one with orange hair with a Buizel. Their uniforms were similar to Kate's the only difference being they had longer shorts on. "Kate. Kellyn. Keith. Long time no see." Ben smiled.
Keith gave him a two-finger wave. "Sure has, Ben."
"We were waiting on you." Kellyn said. "This should be everybody."
"This must be serious if it calls for all of us." Ben said.
Professor Hastings approached from the other end of the room. "Ha, ha, ha. You five look pretty wide eyed and ready to go out there."
"Professor Hastings." Ben said. "You wished to see all of us?"
The man nodded. "I'll get right to the point. I want you and Summer to head back to the Oblivia region for the first time in three months."
Summer tilted her head. "What?"
"Is there trouble in Oblivia again?" Ben asked.
The Professor's expressions grew serious. "Indeed. I received an urgent message from one of these otherworldly friends you met during your previous mission there. What was his name now…Mamanosey?"
"Um…I think you mean Matayoshi, sir."
"I can't tell if that name is more or less weird then the Professor's guess on it." Keith said with his hands behind his head.
Hastings nodded. "Right, right. He sent me a message requesting our assistance." Hastings tapped his cane on the monitor on the floor. A text appeared. "I will read it to you. To the Ranger Union. I trust by now you have heard the story from your Top Rangers Ben Natsuya and Summer Minami. I am of the other world we explained to them. My name is Goro Matayoshi, and I am a detective now working in Oblivia. Rand and his wife Leanne as you may know are out of Oblivia."
"Wait, Rand and Leanne are out of Oblivia?" Ben asked. "Why?"
"Didn't you hear?" Hastings smiled. "The fact is, Rand and Leanne finished a research paper as husband and wife. They along with an assistant Leanne hired were invited to a conference in a different region."
"They're going to present their paper there, then!" Summer gleamed. "How wonderful!"
"If I remember right, the title was something like: "The Light and Darkness of the History of the People and Pokemon in the Oblivia Region." They also described your deeds in detail."
Ben and Summer became a tad flustered. "Really?" Ben asked. "That's a little embarrassing…"
Kellyn grinned. "You get used to it."
Hastings laughed. "You shouldn't be embarrassed! You should be proud. Anyway, back to the message. "Before Rand left, he said if something we could not handle ourselves should arise, we should contact you. Recently we have seen aggressive Pokemon that according to residents are not native in Oblivia. What's more is that there have been sightings of shady people all over the region. Our investigations have not brought up much other then their name. They call themselves Team One World."
"Team One World?" Ben asked. "Are they responsible for the strange Pokemon appearing?"
Hastings continued. "We are conducting our search for more clues, but we have our hands full simply keeping the rampaging Pokemon under control. More Digimon have been appearing and going wild as well. And handling Pokemon was always what we counted on Ben, Summer and Rand for. I would like to request backup to help with the investigation. Please send over some Pokemon Rangers. Sorry to ask this of you, but we have no other options."
"Sounds serious…" Kellyn muttered.
"And with this message he sent us two pictures your friends took during their investigation." Hastings said. Two images appeared on the floor. One of them showed Takumi and Ami with MegaGargomon and Rosemon. Near them where a Steelix, a Diggersby, a Scolipede, and a Coalossal, unconscious on the ground.
"Wow, that's quite a crowd those two took on!" Kate said. "Ben, Summer are these, two from this "other world" you told us about?"
Ben grinned. "Yup. Good old Takumi and Ami. This was probably a walk in the park for them!"
Summer nodded. "Heh, heh. That's our Cyber Sleuths!"
Kellyn took a look at the other image. It was a man with a black hood pulled over his head, a purple short sleeved shirt, and black pants. A purple visor was over his eyes. "Is that…"
"A man from this "Team One World" if I had to guess." Hastings replied.
"Are they Pinchers, or Steelheads taking up a new name?" Ben asked. "Man, those guys sure love to cosplay."
"We don't know if it is them or if we are looking at another group entirely. Since you two are experienced with Oblivia and handling these "Digimon" we still don't know much about, I want you two to return to Obliva and investigate. I know last time, things went south before you arrived to the region and you were unable to call from backup, so just to be safe, this time I want Kellyn, Kate, and Keith to accompany you." Hastings then turned to one of the Rangers. "Kellyn, please bring those four in."
The Ranger nodded and left the room. "Those four?" Summer asked. "What's going on?"
"Your primary mission is to investigate Team One World and settle down the uproar of the wild Pokemon that are out of their natural environment. But there is another task I need you to fulfill. Don't worry, it's a much simpler one."
"What is it?" Ben asked.
"Professor." Kellyn returned with four people. All boys. Three with blue hoodies.
Ben turned around. One of them had blond hair. Another was a pale young man with purple hair and a white jacket. The other two he met earlier. "Hey, it's you two! Um…Keisuke and Ryuji, right?"
"You know these guys?" Summer asked.
"Sorta, I uh…ran into one of them earlier."
"Allow me to do the introductions." Hastings said. "This is Ryuji Mishima, Keisuke Amasawa, Chitose Imai, and Yu Nogi. Ryuji, these are your escorts. Ben Natsuya, Summer Minami, Keith Dazzle, Kellyn Hajime and his sister Kate Hajime."
"Charmed." The blond grinned. "Thought our escorts would be a tad older, but hey, we got a couple of cute faces in the bunch!"
Ryuji elbowed him. "Chitose, not now."
"Escorts?" Ben asked.
"Ben, Summer." Ryuji stepped forward. "Professor Hastings told us that you met people from another world in Oblivia."
"Huh?" Summer turned around. "Professor, I though you wanted the existence of Ami's world to be confidential. Only the highest-ranking Rangers and top members of the Union know about it."
"It makes no difference for these lads." Hastings replied.
"Huh?"
"The four of us are on a mission of our own." Ryuji said. "We're a group of handymen who specialize with the digital back at home. Our team is called Hudie."
"That explains the jackets." Keith grinned.
"As for the mission…" Ryuji took a device from his pocket. "Well…It's sort of a manhunt." A light emanated from the screen. It showed projections of profile pictures.
Kate recognized two of them. "Hey, it's those two from that picture just now! Takumi and Ami right?"
Ben recognized all the projections. "Not just them...Arata…Nokia…Everyone from that world." Then it came to him. "Wait a sec…are you guys…"
Keisuke nodded. "That's right. The four of us are from the same world as them. Satoru Kamishiro sent us."
"Satoru Kamishiro?" Summer asked. "You mean Yuuko and Yuugo's father?"
"We're here to pick up the lost ones." Yu explained. "We used the same ARC System that blasted them here to follow to this world. As soon as we landed here in Almia, we started asking around and were pointed to this Ranger Union."
"So, wait, you guys can go back to your world at will?" Summer asked.
"Sort of." Ryuji pressed some buttons and a different projection came up. It was a timer, with a massive amount of time on it. Days worth.
"What's that?" Keith asked.
"A timer for a program Satoru will launch from his end. It creates a scanning field around me and will transfer any Mental Data it detects to the ARC System where it can be restored to our bodies. He called it the Mental Transfer Program."
"So, you…"
"We're going to Oblivia with you kids. All you need to do is get us to the missing people and we just need to make sure they're close before the timer goes of. Satoru got paranoid about how long it would take us and is giving us a month before he starts the program."
"That's your other objective." Hastings nodded. "To make sure your friends from the other world go back with Hudie."
"That's good." Ben smiled. "Takumi and the others can finally go home. Best of all we can see them again before they do."
Summer winked. "You called it Ben! We haven't seen them for the last time yet!"
"Um, Professor?" Kate asked. "If this Matayoshi is right, Oblivia could be dangerous right now. Wouldn't it be safer to send someone with them when we resolve this?"
"I considered that as well." Hastings replied. "But when I explained the situation to them, Ryuji made a convincing counterargument. There's no telling how long it will take to resolve this incident. If they aren't there in time, they'll be sent home without the others."
"So, we're tagging along." Keisuke added.
"Well, sure." Ben said. "We'll just need to catch enough Staraptor to carry everyone."
"Staraptor?" Yu asked.
Summer pointed to her partner Pokemon. "Like my partner here. Staraptor are the best choice for transport by air for us Pokemon Rangers."
Yu gulped. "When I was told we'd be flying to Oblivia I figured we'd be in a plane or at least a helicopter."
"Yeah…" Keisuke muttered. "Flying to another region by bird…not how I imagined it at all…"
"Don't worry, you'll be safe." Ben grinned. "Just don't fly near Summer. She might mess with you."
"Then let's get started on gathering Staraptor so we can head out." Kellyn said. "The sooner we get to Oblivia the better."
Hastings nodded. "We're on the same page. That's exactly right. If we're decided, then, don't just stand around here. Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
"He's as impatient as ever..." Kate whispered to Summer. Summer nodded.
Hastings put a hand at his ear. "Pardon? Did you say something?"
"She said, "We'll be leaving, then!" Summer said before leaving. One by one the others followed.
Nine Staraptor flew through the clear skies above the clouds. "How're you boys doing?" Kate asked looking behind her. "No problems?"
"Yeah, I think I'm getting the hang of it." Keisuke said. "Just trying my best not to look down…"
"Heh. You worry too much." Ryuji said. "This is much better than a plane. The air up here isn't bad."
"This whole world feels cleaner." Chitose said. "Our world is more advanced tech wise. You see more buildings and whatnot. But seeing all the nature here is amazing…"
"I still can't believe boring average me is doing something like being on a rescue mission in another world!" Yu said. "It's so cool!"
"Uh, oh. I think it's starting to get to his head. What's a guy to do?" Chitose chuckled. "Yo Kate! Surly a sweet girl like you can drop a guys some advise."
"Flirt all ya want, won't do you no good." Kate grinned as she was petting her Starly that flew next to her.
"That's twelve so far." Yu said.
"Twelve what?" Ben asked.
"Oh, Keisuke and I figured Chitose here would get shot down by at least thirty girls in this world before we get home."
Keith snickered at Chitose. "Wow. Charming friends you got there."
"Yeah, so charming I could just push them off those birds and watch them fall into the ocean." Chitose muttered.
"Hey, it's not our fault you flirt with every girl you meet!" Keisuke said.
"Alright you three, that's enough." Ryuji said.
"Yes sir." They replied.
"Heh, heh. Like a big brother." Summer giggled. "That kinda reminds me of how Kyoko is like a mother to Takumi and Ami."
"Is that so?" Ryuji said uneasily. "I've heard of the Cyber Sleuths…Takumi and Ami, do they…talk about their mother?"
"Well I heard them say she's always working abroad." Ben said. "They still love her though."
"That's good. There's actually something I wanted to talk to them about when we arrive."
Summer looked at Ben. "Now that I think about it, the two of us should be plenty for this job if we're working with Ami and the others, right?"
Ben nodded. "I wonder if that means we're not considered to be experienced enough yet."
"I'm not complaining." Kellyn replied. "It's been a while since the five of us were on a mission like this together."
Summer looked down below. "Look what happened while we were chatting! We can already see those familiar islands of Oblivia! Ami, Takumi and the others probably can't wait to see us!"
"Yeah." Ben nodded. "Follow us guys! We're-
Suddenly a loud cry was heard. "What was that?!" Yu asked. He was so startled he nearly fell off.
"Is somebody pinching their Staraptor?" Keith asked covering his ears.
Summer glanced behind her. "L-look out!"
Everyone looked behind them to see Zapdos. Moltres and Articuno flying towards them from behind. "W-what the heck?!" Keisuke shuddered.
Ben, Summer, Kellyn, Keith and Kate moved their Staraptor aside, but Hudie, who were just learning didn't know what to do when they were rammed from behind and were loosing altitude.
"Oh, no!" Kate yelled as she watched them fall.
"Keisuke! Ryuji! Chitose! Yu!" Ben saw them fall screaming, holding onto their hurt Staraptor.
Keith looked at the birds that charged ahead. "Are those…the legendary birds?! What are they doing here?!"
"Keith, forget that!" Kellyn said. "We need to help Ryuji and his gang!"
"Oh, right!" The Rangers flew after them. Their targets looked like they split up before leaving their sight.
"It looks like they landed in Renbow Island!" Ben said. "Split up and look for them!"
"You'll be safe" he said." Keisuke groaned as he got up. "Ow…man." He looked around. He was in some kind of forest. "Where am I?" He then looked around him. "Ryuji?! Yu! Chitose!" He looked around for his friends but did not see anyone anywhere. "Are the others alright? I'd better look around!"
As Keisuke looked around he pondered to himself. "Huh. No Pokemon seem to be around. Speaking of which, where those giant birds that attacked us…Were they also Pokemon? I was surprised at first when we first saw the Pokemon. They do seem a bit like Digimon, but…" Keisuke sighed. "Satoru said Digimon were in this world…But I have yet to see a single one. Maybe now that we're in Oblivia…"
Suddenly he heard a noise and froze. "What the…? I thought I heard something…" Keisuke slowly looked around him. "Is someone there? Ryuji?"
He then heard it again. A rustling in the bushes to his left. He slowly crept over to them. "Who…" He pulled the branches away and saw something-someone. It was a red bug creature with greed eyes, a spikey shell and four arms. Two of those arms were longer than the other two and had some kind of pincers on them. Keisuke went wide eyes. "You're…!"
The bug was cowering, hiding his head when he heard the voice and looked up. He was just as surprised as Keisuke was. "K-Keisuke?" Then he remembered something and jumped back. "Epp! I-I mean, who are you?!"
"Tentomon?"
The bug looked at him in surprise.
"Tentomon? Is that really you?"
"Keisuke…you…remember me?"
Keiskue gave him a shaky smile. "Of course, I do…you're my partner…"
"Keisuke!" Tentomon flew into the boy, knocking him over.
Keisuke laughed as his Digimon cried in joy. "There, there." He sat up, petting the Digimon. "I'm glad you're doing okay."
"Me too…" Tentomon got off Keisuke. "But what are you doing in this world?"
"Ryuji, Chitose, Yu and I were all sent here by Yuuko's father. The head of Kamishiro. There was an experiment and his daughter and son along with a handful of other people were accidently blasted here. He sent us to look for them. What about you?"
"Me? I'm on a mission too. Our Hudie has been looking into the disappearances of Digimon."
"I heard that Digimon have been appearing in this world."
"That's right. I can't say who it was, but someone really important sent us to investigate."
"Us…you mean…" Keisuke was almost afraid to ask. "Erika is here?!"
"Huidemon? Um…Yeah. I'm sure she's here somewhere…"
A surprised and exited smile rose on Keisuke's face. "She is here! I can actually see her again!"
"So, Ryuji and Chitose are here too?"
"Yeah. So's Yu. He's working at Hudie on our end with us. we were being escorted here where the missing people were, when we were knocked out of the sky by some really big bird creatures."
"Were they some of this "Pokemon" that inhabit this world?" Tentomon asked.
"I don't know. But I need to find the others."
"Let me come with you! I need to find my team as well!"
Keisuke smiled. "Just like old times. Let's go Tentomon!"
"Yeah!"
So yes, I decided to include some more Rangers for this story. For those unfamiliar with Kellyn, Kate, and Keith, they stared in Pokemon Ranger Shadows of Almia. Why did I decide to make Kellyn and Kate siblings? Because unlike the first Pokemon Ranger and Guardian Signs, the character you don't pick doesn't exist at all in the game, so I'm used to the idea of both Kellyn and Kate playing the role of the protagonist there and that means I'm used to them living in the same family, so it just made sense to me.
Also for Keisuke's partner I picked Tentomon as I always do when I play Hacker's Memory. 50% because of Digimon Adventure 50% because it has a Ultra form. But don't worry Betamon/Gotsumon fans. Like I did with Hagurumon, I'll try to squeeze those two into this story as well somewhere.
That said, a new evil shows itself in Oblivia. What dangers await our new heroes? Who is this "Team One World"? And what awaits when our friends regroup? Find out next week on Cyber Ranger Guardian Story: The Next Heroes!
