Arriving at the table and standing there awkwardly makes Jade want to forget about trying to talk to Beck and walk away. Before she can change her mind and walk away, Beck sees her and he gives her a small smile before getting up and walking over to her.
"Hey guys," Beck calls to the gang while Tori sits down at the table. "Jade and I will be back in a few minutes."
"Okay," Cat acknowledges for everyone at the table before going back to the conversation happening between Robbie and Andre.
Beck and Jade walk away from the table and over to a more private spot in the asphalt café and they stand there looking at each other awkwardly for a while.
Jade wants to follow Tori's advice and get this conversation over with so Jade breaks the silence first. "I know you were trying to come to me as a friend about your concerns and I snapped at you but I don't need someone to tell me how to live my life."
Beck gives Jade a sincere smile. It's small but it's there. "I appreciate that you can see where I was coming from. I'm sorry too. I know that it's not any of my business what's going on in your love life but after we broke up, I worried you wouldn't ever be interested in anyone else. I felt relieved when I found out about you hooking up with Lauren."
Jade's eyebrows furrow. "What do you mean you found out about Lauren and I hooking up?"
Beck rubs his neck nervously. "Well," he starts sheepishly. "I know you and Lauren left the asphalt cafe at around the same time during lunch and when I caught her walking back to her table, she had small purple looking marks on her neck. Also, your hair looked a little messy and your lips looked a little swollen. I put two and two together."
"Woah," Jade comments. "Okay, well. Lauren and I didn't hook up that day. We made out and stuff but we never had sex."
Beck rocks some of the rocks on the ground and looks at Jade. "Can I ask if you have feelings for her?"
Jade shakes her head, "I don't but I think I might like someone else."
Beck gets this feeling in his gut and Jade notices the knowing look in his eyes. "It's Tori, isn't it?" He assumes.
Jade plays with the ends of her sleeves. She's nervous. She didn't even have this conversation with Cat and Cat is her best friend. It's just weird to talk about this with Beck. "I'm not denying that but I'm not confirming anything either."
Beck puts a hand on Jade's shoulder. He looks her in the eyes and smiles. "I'm happy that you've found someone else. Tori is great. If it's her then I support it."
Jade tries to push the feeling of acceptance for something that might never happen away. She blows a deep breath out. "You make it sound like we're already dating or something."
Beck shrugs. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I know she likes you too."
"Did she tell you that?" Jade asks quickly. If Tori told him that then maybe she'd feel better about her growing feelings.
Beck's expression changes and Jade knows the answer before Beck replies in words. "No. She didn't but I see the way she looks at you. Maybe you should make a move or something."
Jade gives Beck a tight smile. "Maybe I will. I think we should head back to the table now."
Beck reaches out for her and stops her from leaving. "Are we okay?" Beck asks gently.
Jade nods, "yeah, we are." She smiles at Beck gently and he pulls Jade in for a quick side hug.
Once Beck gets the confirmation he needs and they pull away from the hug, they make their way back to the table. The gang smiles at them and Jade and Beck sit down. Jade grabs her lunch from her bag and starts to eat it while she observes her friends and listens in on their very weird yet slightly interesting conversation. Jade's still got a lot on her mind but she feels better now that she's cleared things up with Beck. She knows she wouldn't be feeling so at ease with Beck if it wasn't for the push Tori gave her to talk to Beck and fix things with him. Jade knows she needs to thank Tori and she knows just the way to do it.
Jade pulls her phone out of her bag and opens her messages with Tori. Jade hopes that sending a text isn't too informal for Tori. Still, she sends Tori a 'thank you' message with a smiley face and waits.
When the text is sent, Tori's phone vibrates on the cafeteria table and she looks down at it. She picks it up and smiles when she sees Jade's name on the screen. Tori reads the message and sends Jade a quick 'you're welcome' with a heart emoji. Jade reads the text she got from Tori and they smile at each other from across the table for a few seconds then look away from each other.
Cat watches the two of them discreetly and the wheels in her head start to turn. It gives Cat an idea but she needs someone else to help her set the plan in motion. Cat looks over at Andre and smirks. He gives her a questioning look but she just smiles and keeps quiet. She'll talk to Andre about her plan later. She doesn't want anyone else to know about it. Especially not the other two girls sitting at the table. She knows it might be a difficult task to convince Andre to help her but she's not going to give up until he agrees to help her. She hopes it won't take too long because the sooner he agrees, the sooner they can get to work on her plan.
After school couldn't come fast enough for Cat. She's been waiting all afternoon to find the right opportunity to talk to Andre about her plan to try and get Jade and Tori together. It's clear to Cat that Tori likes Jade and Cat knows Jade well enough to know that she likes Tori.
Cat sees the two of them. She sees the way Tori looks at Jade when she isn't paying attention. Cat sees how Jade doesn't let anyone except for Tori touch her. Cat has noticed how Jade and Tori seem to have a different relationship lately. Cat can feel their dynamic shifting when she hangs out with the gang and both Jade and Tori are there. Jade has done a lot of things for Tori even though she's claimed that Tori isn't her friend many, many times. It screams care and Cat smiles at the thought because she thinks it's cute that Jade has a weakness for the half Latina.
Cat bounces on her heels over to Andre when she spots him at his locker. He turns to look over at her and she smiles. It's really wide and it must set something off for Andre because he stops what he's doing to stare directly at her for a few minutes.
"What are you up to little red?" He asks after studying her facial expression.
Cat is impressed at his ability to read her. Nobody really takes the time to do that with her anymore. At least not in her opinion. "I have an idea."
Andre sighs and Cat pokes his shoulder a few times. "Why'd you sigh?" She questions curiously.
Andre closes his locker and puts his bag on his back before giving Cat all of his attention. "Well…" Andre starts hesitantly. "The last time you had an idea it didn't go so well."
Cat pouts lightly and crosses her arms over her chest. "That's not fair. It could have happened to anyone. Just… Hear me out this time. My idea is actually a good one this time."
Andre looks unsure but Cat grabs his right hand and bats her eyelashes at him. He rolls his eyes playfully but he lets her tell him about her plan.
"Yay," she squeals happily. She drops her voice to a whisper as she explains the details of wanting to get Jade and Tori together. "It's clear to me that Tori likes Jade and I know Jade well enough to see that she's also interested in Tori."
"How do you know they're into each other like that?" Andre questions. He knows Tori likes Jade. She told him after all but he wants to hear from Cat how she came to that conclusion. He wonders if Tori came to her about her feelings for Jade as well. He never thought to ask if he was the only one that she'd talked about it with or not.
Cat thinks thoughtfully about the words she wants to use to explain what she's observed about the two girls. "Tori is normally a very bubbly and happy sort of person, right?" Andre nods his agreement to the statement.
"I've noticed that when Jade comes around, she seems more nervous. For example, the other day when we all hung out after school. Tori was excitedly going on and on about whatever it was, I honestly forgot but once Jade started paying attention, I saw her watch for Jade's reaction to what she was saying. When it seemed like Jade didn't hate what she was talking about her smile widened and she got even more excited about it. Also, sometimes I'm really early for class because I don't want to be late and I see Tori just gazing at Jade from her locker. I thought it was a little creepy at first but I realized that she's not really watching her."
Andre puts his hand up to stop her for a second. "What do you mean she's not really watching her?" He asks in confusion.
Cat shrugs her shoulders. "Well, I think she might have been daydreaming or something when she was staring at her."
"What makes you think that?" He asks.
Cat plays with the ends of her hair. Twirling them between her fingers. "One time I went to confront her and even tease her about her staring at Jade but when I walked up to her, she didn't even notice I was there. I was standing on the left side of her locker and it was like she was in another place or something. She was definitely staring at Jade but when I cleared my throat and broke her away from her thoughts, she visibly startled at the sight of me. Hand over her heart and a "Cat, don't sneak up on me like that" and everything. I felt bad and I didn't bring up the fact that I hadn't actually snuck up on her to save her from further embarrassment. I've seen many other forms of Tori and her heart eyes for Jade, especially the last few days."
Andre smiles. Cat is observant and he can't deny that Tori kind of does have these heart eyes for Jade. "That explains Tori, but what about Jade?"
Cat smirks at Andre. "Jade lets Tori touch her when nobody else is allowed. She does nice things for Tori while still denying the fact that they're friends. She isn't as mean to her as she used to be when they first met. Not to mention she doesn't need to be convinced to spend time with Tori. Jade willingly spends time with Tori both in a group setting and alone which she hardly ever did before. Jade has also offhandedly and probably unknowingly told me that Tori is talented and pretty."
Andre nods his head at the information. "Okay that's some solid evidence but what does that have to do with us?"
Cat leans into Andre. "We're going to set them up." When Cat pulls away, Andre looks nervous.
A few hours later, Andre is over at Tori's house and they're discussing school and Jade.
"Do you ever plan on telling Jade how you feel about her?"
Tori shakes her head and runs her hand through her hair. "I don't know," she huffs.
Andre rubs the back of his neck nervously. "Well, what if she felt the same way? Would that change your mind about telling her?"
Tori's eyes practically bulge out of her head. "What do you mean what if she felt the same way about me?" Tori squints her eyes and looks at Andre suspiciously. "Do you know something I don't?"
"Nope, nope," Andre answers quickly with a shake of his head. Too quickly if the look on Tori's face says anything.
Tori studies him and he breaks under the heat of her gaze. "Okay!" He exclaims. "I know something but I can't say anything."
Tori's excitement dissipates as quickly as it had appeared. "Dang it."
Andre takes pity on her. Though he knows he can't really say anything specific he knows he needs to encourage Tori to talk to Jade about this because he knows Jade won't bring the subject up. "I can't say much but what I can say is that if you talk to her about it, you won't regret it. Probably."
Tori and Andre sit silently for a while. Neither one of them saying anything to each other. Tori thinking about what Andre has said and Andre watching tv beside Tori.
About ten minutes later Tori mumbles, "maybe I will talk to Jade about it."
Andre looks to look at her and smiles. He turns to look back at the tv and discreetly pulls out his phone to send Cat a text.
Two hours later the doorbell at Tori's house rings. Tori is in the bathroom so Andre gets up from the couch to answer it.
"Hey," Andre greets Cat. "Where's Jade?" Andre asks while looking outside.
"She's outside parking her car," Cat answers easily. Cat notes that Andre looks nervous.
"Are you sure we should be middling in their love lives like this? How do we even know they're going to end up talking about what we want them to talk about?"
Cat sighs and sits down on the couch. "Andre," she says calmly. "We've been over this. I'm going to push Jade and you're going to say what needs to be said when the time comes. When we feel like the time has come, we're going to make up some excuse and leave them to talk about what we said."
Andre rubs his hands together nervously. "Okay that sounds easy enough but what if Jade tries to leave when you push her?"
Cat rolls her eyes from the couch. "I'll figure that out if we cross that bridge."
Andre's eyes widen, "so you mean to tell me you don't have a plan if she tries to leave?"
Cat stands and grabs Andre's hands. "I've got this, okay? You don't need to freak out over anything. Everyone thinks I'm ditsy and innocent so I can use that to my advantage and play off it. If I push all the right buttons everything will go how it should and Jade won't be in the mood to leave."
Andre meets Cat's eyes and he takes a deep breath. "Alright, alright. I hope this goes well because I don't want to be on the wrong end of Jade's wrath. It was bad enough Tori pulled me into that scheme that involved paying Gilbert to ask Jade out."
Cat laughs, loud and bubbly. "Yeah" she says, "that was an awful idea. I can't believe Tori got you to do that."
Andre rolls his eyes and pulls away from Cat. "Yeah, me neither." They both make themselves comfortable on one for Tori's couch so when Jade comes in, her and Tori have to share the other couch.
When Tori comes back from the bathroom, she notices Cat sitting down next to Andre. "Hey Cat," she greets kindly. Cat waves and watches as Tori sits on the couch furthest from the door. "What are you doing here?" Tori asks.
Cat shrugs her shoulders. "I was pretty bored at home and I was texting Andre and I decided to come over and hang out with you guys."
Tori nods slowly. "Alright then."
Cat nudges Andre in the side gently and when he looks over at her she smiles brightly. He shakes his head at her but smiles back nonetheless.
A few minutes later Cat hears the sound of a car door closing and watches as the front door to the Vega household opens and closes. Tori and Andre's attention is taken away from the tv and they turn toward the front door. Tori looks shocked but Andre is feigning disinterest. Jade shrugs at the reactions to her presence and takes a seat next to Tori like Cat wanted her to.
Unlike when Tori noticed Cat was in her house, she doesn't question why Jade is here. They just sit in silence for several minutes before Cat puts the reason for them all being there into action.
"I'm surprised you don't have a date or anything tonight, Jade."
Jade looks away from the tv and over at Cat briefly before replying. "I'm not really interested in dating anyone right now."
Cat watches as Tori's shoulder slump against the couch. Cat frowns but continues on. "Well, I'm sure some guy or girl is very interested in taking you out on a date. You just have to find them."
Jade shrugs and turns her focus back to the tv. "Why should I care about finding someone interested in me? If someone is interested in me then they should just come and talk to me about it."
"Well sometimes talking about feelings can be hard. Especially if you don't know that person feels the same way about you," Andre adds. The statement catches Tori's attention and she looks over at him suddenly.
"I really don't see the big deal about it. You can't sit around and wait for someone to read your mind. If you feel something you should say so."
Tori switches between looking at Andre to looking over at Jade. "Is that really a fair statement though?"
Jade turns her head to her left to meet Tori's eyes. Talking to Tori directly Jade asks, "How isn't it?"
Tori shrugs. "You needed my help to talk to Beck about your fight from earlier. Even though you claim it's easy to talk about feelings, you still needed some sort of push to get the conversation with him going."
Jade rolls her eyes and crosses her arms over her chest. "That's different," she insists. "What I'm saying is I'd want someone to tell me if they had feelings for me instead of just sitting around waiting for me to make the first move. Or worse, wait for me to somehow read their mind and magically just know that they like me or something. I'm talented at many things but I haven't yet mastered mind reading."
"When you put it like that, I guess I feel the same way. If someone liked me, I wouldn't want them to waste time waiting for me to pick up on social cues or something. I'd probably never even notice they liked me if they didn't say anything."
Andre thinks for a moment. "I personally think that if you feel strong enough feelings for someone you should just give it a shot. Having someone you like reject you would be hard but at least I'd know if the girl I like liked me too or not. If I never said anything I'd be stuck wondering every time I saw her and I don't think I could handle that unknown. If she didn't like me back then I would know and I could move on instead of overthinking every interaction we have. Asking myself "did she do that because she likes me or was she just being friendly?" In life you have to take risks and I think love is worth the risk of rejection."
Jade smiles in satisfaction. "I love it when I'm right and everyone recognizes it."
Tori doesn't say anything Andre realizes. When he looks over at her, she appears to be deep in thought. He can tell by the small cease in her forehead.
Once Cat feels the time has come, she stands up. "Oh my gosh," she exclaims loudly.
Tori looks over at her quickly. "What's wrong?" she asks worriedly.
"My mom needs me to come home right away. Andre, will you give me a ride?"
Andre stands quickly and nods. "Yeah, of course Cat."
Cat and Andre bid Tori and Jade goodbye and move hastily out of the house and Jade and Tori are alone.
Jade stares at the front door before moving to leave herself. Tori doesn't want Jade to leave just yet so before she can convince herself not to, she's speaking. "Jade, wait. Stay. Just a little bit longer, please." Tori speaks shyly.
Jade takes her time in debating if she should stay or not. After a few long moments Tori gasps in shock. "It's really taking you this long to decide if you want to spend more time with me?"
Jade gives Tori a soft smile. "Okay, I guess I can stay a bit longer."
"Good," Tori replies. "I need to talk to you about something anyways."
"Well, what is it?" Jade asks impatiently.
Tori is nervous, more nervous than she's ever been but Andre's words and the whole conversation her friends just had is playing over and over in her mind. Tori musters up all the courage she has left to get the words to come out of her mouth. "You're breathtaking. I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. You have these beautiful blue eyes that I can't help but get lost in when they meet mine. I admire the way that you're never afraid to say what you think. I love the way you seem to get lost in the music you sing. I love your passion for writing, acting and directing. You're talented and you know it. What you don't know is that I think I have feelings for you. I don't know when they started to develop but I know that ever since I caught you making out with that girl in the closet, I haven't been able to get you off my mind. I haven't been able to stop thinking about how soft your lips might be. I've found myself wondering on many occasions what it'd be like to kiss you. I really want to kiss you."
Tori takes a deep breath in and it feels like time stops when their eyes lock. There's this moment between Jade and Tori where they just look at each other. Jade feeling incredibly special and Tori feeling the intense and overwhelming urge to kiss Jade. They lock eyes and Tori looks down at Jade's lips.
Jade bites her lip and holds her breath. Tori starts to lean in closer to Jade while Jade also starts to lean in. They're about to kiss when Jade puts her hand on Tori's arm to stop her. Jade presses her forehead against Tori's and whispers "I can't do this."
Tori opens her eyes and looks at Jade carefully. "Why not?" She asks as her and Jade breath in the same air. She can feel Jade's minty breath on her face when she speaks.
"I want to," Jade says and it makes Tori smile. "I just can't." She feels the tears welling in her eyes and she pulls herself away from Tori. She can't let Tori see how broken up she is about this. "I'm sorry," she tells Tori before grabbing her things and standing up. "I hope you can forgive me," Jade adds in a wobbly voice before walking away.
Tori reacts quickly and grabs Jade's wrist softly to stop her in her tracks. "This is about Beck, isn't it?"
Jade turns to look at Tori. "When he and I broke up we had a conversation about this. I thought I was into you or something then and maybe I was but I don't think the possibility had even crossed my mind yet. Naturally I told him he was delusional and that I'd never be interested in you."
Jade watches as Tori's face falls in disappointment. "Right…" she trails off awkwardly.
Jade smiles sadly. "Then something changed and I couldn't deny how I felt about you but I've been trying to deny it ever since because Beck tried to kiss you a while back and you stopped him because he was my ex and you considered me your friend. Friends don't kiss their friends' ex. When you wanted to kiss me it brought that up. I like you but I also told Beck that I wouldn't ever go there and I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I broke my promise. I'm not that kind of person."
Tori licks her lips and thinks for a long moment. "Okay" she says eventually. "We don't have to kiss but could you maybe stay with me for a little bit longer before going home?"
Jade plays with her fingers. "Yeah," she nods while moving to sit back down beside Tori. They finish the movie that was on while Andre and Cat were there and Jade feels her phone buzz inside her pocket.
When she pulls her phone out, her eyebrow furrows in confusion. It's a text from Beck but that's not what has her confused. It's the fact that the text is specific and random at the same time. Jade arches her eyebrow when a second text comes through. She reads the words over and over again but she still can't make sense of what she's seeing on her screen.
If I'm the reason you haven't made a move on Tori yet, forget about what we agreed to. I don't care about our "no one dates Tori" agreement. I just want you to be happy and it looks like Tori makes you happy. Cat told me that you still worry about that. Don't be mad at her though, she's like me. She wants what's best for you. Go get your girl Jade.
Jade smiles and feels her heart warm. She's so lucky to have friends like the ones she does. Jade sends Beck a quick, "I will" and puts her phone back in her pocket.
Jade puts her hand on Tori's thigh and gives it a quick squeeze but leaves it there when Tori turns to look over at her. Tori gives her a questioning look and Jade uses both her hands to pull Tori toward her and connect their lips in a kiss.
Tori responds eagerly when the shock wears off and Jade smiles into the kiss. They pull away a few minutes later. Both of them flushed with wide smiles on their faces. Jade rubs her thumb up and down the skin on Tori's cheek. "Beck said he just wants me to be happy. You happen to be the thing that makes me happy. If you didn't already know, I like you too Vega."
This time, Tori pulls Jade in for a kiss and she sighs. She really got the girl she wanted and she couldn't be any happier. Jade guesses she owes Cat for dragging her out of her house and forcing her to drive to Tori's. For now, though, Jade is more than content kissing Tori and making up for lost time.
Tuesday morning is like every other day. Jade leaves the house and heads to her favourite coffee shop to get her day started off the right way then she drives herself to school. When she gets there, Hollywood Arts is strangely dead but Jade shrugs it off. She doesn't really care either way. She probably prefers it when the school is virtually empty if she had to choose.
After she's done in her locker and she turns around, she's suddenly aware that she's surrounded by all of her friends. She hides her surprise well but she wonders when they got there since she didn't see or hear them walk up to her.
"What are you guys doing creeping around the school?" Jade asks. "How did you guys even sneak up on me when the school is this quiet?"
Cat bounces on her heels happily and ignores Jade's question directed at them. Normally she'd answer them but she's too excited for that today. "How did things go last night?"
Jade blushes and looks down at her coffee cup. Jade plays with the lid of her coffee cup for something to do so her friends don't notice the red in her cheeks. She can't give herself away that easily. When Jade feels like the blush is gone, she looks back at her friends.
"Yeah," Beck adds with a smug smirk. "What did you and Tori get up to last night? Was it a late night?"
Jade rolls her eyes dramatically. "I'm not the type of girl to kiss and tell," Jade answers evenly. "Even if I were, I wouldn't tell you guys."
Andre nods in understanding of Jade's choice not to tell them anything about what happened. "Okay, okay. I can respect that."
Robbie jumps in quickly. "We don't need you to tell us anything anyways," he blurts accidentally.
Jade eyebrows furrow in confusion at that. They just asked her how everything went but they don't need her to tell them anything about it? Why would they ask if they didn't need her to tell them? It doesn't make any sense to her. "What do you mean?" Jade asks when she can't figure out what Robbie is talking about.
Andre smiles at her. "Tori already told us all about what happened between the two of you this morning." Just as Andre finishes his sentence Tori walks up to the group and Jade's eyes meet Tori's eyes instantly.
"You told me that we kissed last night?" Jade asks Tori as soon as she comes to a stop in front of the rest of the group.
Tori blushes a deep red and rubs the back of her neck. "Uh, yeah. I was really excited and when they showed up to my locker asking about it, I couldn't hold myself back. I was really happy about how last night went between us."
Jade decides to let it go. She probably would have ended up telling someone about it eventually and at least now everyone knows and she didn't have to say a word. She smiles at Tori. "Okay. Well, since everyone has heard about it already, they must know that I asked you to be my girlfriend and we're dating."
Jade looks around at her friends' reactions and gets the feeling that Tori must have left out that bit of information. "Jade," Tori exclaims in shock.
Jade shrugs her shoulders in nonchalance. "I assumed you already told them we were dating since you told them about our kiss. Did you not want them to know?"
Tori frowns, "I didn't know if you wanted them to know that or not but I'm glad it's all out there."
Jade and Tori exchange smiles and the gang seems to have recovered from their shock when Cat squeals in excitement. "Yes!" she yells. "I told you my plan would work," she tells Andre.
Andre shakes his head but he's got a small smile on his face. "I'm sorry I doubted you at first Red but your last plan really didn't go well."
Beck and Robbie exchange looks and congratulate the girls on their new relationship. "It's kind of weird when I think about it," Robbie says randomly. Everyone looks at him in a questioning manner before Cat does what nobody else seems like they're going to do.
"What's weird?" Cats asks Robbie curiously. Cat watches Robbie open and close his mouth a few times before Rex steps in and just says what Robbie was probably too afraid of saying.
"It's weird to him that he never even had a clue that Jade and Tori had a thing for each other for the longest time," Rex finishes.
Just then Trina walks near the group in the empty halls and overhears Rex talking about Robbie, Jade and her sister. "Oh man," she says as she eyes Robbie. "You're slow," she adds as an afterthought while throwing Robbie a look that shows clear pity before she walks by them completely without another word.
The rest of the gang laugh and continue on with their day like normal. Except for the fact that Jade and Tori walk together, holding hands wherever the rest of their friends go. For the first time in a long time, Jade feels good about a decision she's made. She knows Tori will be a good match for her. She's proved to be someone to push her in the right direction even when they were only friends.
Jade is happy to have Tori in her life, especially as her girlfriend. She's happy that all of her friends were supportive of her and Tori. Tori deserves the world and having friends who know about their relationship and accept it is the start of what a future between herself and Tori could look like.
It puts a smile on Jade's face. Her future with Tori. She hopes they make it in the long run. Tori could be it for her and she's excited to get to experience everything that comes with being Tori's girlfriend. Jade brings Tori's hand up to her mouth and kisses it. Tori smiles at her and Jade pulls her in to kiss her before following after their friends.
