Chapter 2: He's Back

Handing Meredith a tissue, Aaron pulled a chair next to her, trying to console his best friend from what he assumed was a harsh confrontation. Because of his big mouth, Derek head learned something horrible concerning his girlfriend. Aaron promised her, spat on it, and shook hands. It was their secret for life. At this point, he knew he was dead. As soon as the A word slipped his mouth, he knew that he broke the trust of his best friend. He just prayed to God that she would forgive him and not beat his sorry ass.

Meredith wiped her teary eyes, a burning feeling rose as it hit her swollen lids. Her sobbing subsided when Aaron had given her a glass of water to drink, rehydrate her body since she was losing too much fluid by bawling her pain out. Rubbing her back, helped her calm down to half her hysteric level, hiccuping a few times before the only sound was her breath, hitching in her throat every once in a while.

"Do you want to tell me what happened, Mer?" he asked giving her the permission to start talking, maybe even yell at him for being such a horrible person.

"He...he wants to know the truth. The real truth Aaron." she cried, sitting up groggily, pushing away the bed sheets. "I know I haven't been telling him things, things that are important, but you have no idea how hard it is for me."

"I know it is Mer, the abortion is not something easy to even mention, to think about. But I think it's a good thing that-"

"What did you just say?" she snapped; her breathing stopped for that second. Shaking his head, he put both his hands up in defeat, as if he were caught shoplifting at Judy's boutique vandalizing all her merchandise. "No, don't you fucking shake your head at me. Why would you even mention that?"

Sighing, he tried to reach for her hand, failing miserably. Meredith snatching them back. "Mer, I might have let it slip earlier..." his voice trailing off, her body shaking into sobs in front of him, leaning forward clutching onto her stomach. "Mer." he begged, reaching for her only to be fought back with twice as much force.

The flat of her palm connected with the right side of his face. The loud slap of the two surfaces with the increasing pressure. Nearly falling off his seat from the sudden attack, he kept his eyes on her. He knew he deserved it. He knew and he was willing to turn the other cheek and make it easier for the next hit to strike on his chiseled face.

Her breathing was hard, fierce as if she were a panting lion. Her hand was clutched at her side, red and hurting as much as his cheek did.

"You're the reason Derek was like this, weren't you? He was talking about the abortion, while I was trying so hard to try and figure out how to tell him something else. I have twice the amount of baggage to give him. Thank you, Aaron. Thank you very fucking much." her voice sharp. She was killing him. He knew the deadly look in her eyes.

Again, she had the right to do so.

There was something different about Aaron than most people. His mind was a replica of a video player. He could rewind and play. The words jumbled as he reversed the angry words of his best friend, of his baby sister.

Now play.

"He was talking about the abortion, while I was trying so hard to try and figure out how to tell him something else."

"Wait, you are hiding something else. Is this what's got you acting sick-"

"It is none of your business, Aaron."

"I get that you hate me right now, I do. But if something, some secret is taunting you, making you scared to even be alone in your room at night, you need to tell me Mer. I will help you if you have a problem, you know that." he comforted in a soft voice.

Just like that her tense stiffened body collapsed into a heap of sobs, her tiny rack shaking violently, grasping the sheets beneath her.

"I'm scared." she whispered not meeting his eyes.

"Why? I need more words to comprehend your situation here." he urged, finding his way onto the top of her bed, slowly pulling her close.

"H..he...he's back." her voice barely heard, the meaning louder than the words spoken.

After ten minutes of silence, Aaron spoke.

"Who's back. Mer, who?"

"Who's back? Mer, who?" he asked softly, her sobs increasing in volume. Burying her face into the mattress, she shook her head, the tangled hair of his best friend only seen while her hurt face was hidden.

This something was not easy for her, her secret harder for her to even say. It was scaring her. It was scaring him at the moment as well. The only times she would break down is when shit came at her, crap she couldn't deal with with her spunk attitude or her inner strength. This was eating her alive, and he still didn't know what or who it was.

"He..he's back." she hiccupped, her voice mumbled against the sheet covering her mouth.

"Mer." he sighed running a hand down her back feeling the slightest shake of her figure, spasms throughout her body. "I need a name."

"He's back..." she trailed off, her eyes closed, shaking her head trying to forget.

The creak of the doorway was heard, revealing a figure watching the sight before him. Aaron snapped his head at the sound, feeling another presence in the room. A presence he knew well. Someone who would help his friend at the moment.

"He's back.." she murmured sniffling, letting out a breath she was holding.

"Yeah Mer, Derek's back." he soothed, understanding what she was trying to tell him. Derek was here and he would be able to help her. The creak of the hard wood floor signaled the doctors steps. His blue eyes holding pain, feeling guilty about leaving the woman he loved lying in her bed.

He needed some air, that's all. As he spent his time recuperating, the world didn't hold just for him. Time still went by for everyone. In the time that passed, it looked as if Meredith had broken in to twice as many pieces after he left.

Sharing a look with Aaron, all he could do was shrug at him. "There's something bothering her, she won't tell me though." Aaron whispered to Derek, his hand still stroking the spine of her back. Her eye lids now at ease rather than tensed and scrunched up.

Derek motioned for Aaron to move. He did as he was silently ordered, placing a soft kiss at the top of Meredith's head before retreating, patting Derek's back before disappearing.

At this point he didn't know what to do. He was Derek Shepherd, head of neuro at Seattle Grace. He could be well known as one of the best in the west coast. He was always in his game, knowing what to do, how to do it and when to do it.

Right now, all he could do was hold her until she was ready to speak.

That's what he was going to do.
