The DigiDestined Return
We return back to Tai and Greymon, the pair of them had caught up to the Kuwagamon that tried to escape from them to an airport.
The sun had set this point, both of them exhausted from the rush down here
"That. Guy's. Durable." Greymon panted.
"It's like he didn't die after all this time." Tai agreed. "Did his shell get harder?"
"I dunno. But we've got to... Tai. Is that a-?" Greymon asked, looking up as a strange circular gate with circuit board lines with fragments of data pouring out from inside. It looked like a tunnel with a wire-grid inside that expanded forever.
"A Digital Gate." He nodded.
The Kuwagamon was buzzing in the air, looking through the gate as it saw something come through.
No. Not something.
Some THINGS!
The singular buzzing of Kuwagamon was multiplying. Two. Four. Eight!
A swarm of Kuwagamon was coming through the gate!
...
"Tai?"
"Yeah buddy?"
"We walked into a trap, didn't we?"
"Yeah."
"GURRAAAAAARGH!" The Kuwagamon proclaimed angrily, seeing their fallen comrade on the floor with a Greymon standing there.
"Tai. I can keep going." Greymon commented. "I got enough energy for this!"
"Heh... Yeah. You're not on your own, buddy. Let's squash these beetles!" Tai answered.
"I can't Digivolve though." Greymon added simply "Too tired."
"Don't worry, we can push through this!" Tai answered, gripping his Digivice tightly as they saw the swarm approaching them
"Always." Greymon pushed his body to stand up and brace himself against the tide.
'Guys... wherever you are. Sorry.' Tai thought as he stood with Greymon.
"GREEEEEEEEEEEE!" The Kuwagamon screeched as they attacked.
FWOOO!
SHWOOOO!
ZZZZAP!
BOOM!
"GREAT HORN!" He gave a mighty roar and rushed forwards, his horn shining in the light.
The mighty dino span around and brought his tail down with a powerful strike, only for a Kuwagamon to snap its pincers closed around his arm.
"GRAAAAHHHHH!" he howled in pain "NOVA BLAST!" Greymon roared, shooting a fireball into the face of one of his foes
BOOM!
"BRAAAH!" he yelled, falling to one knee as one Kuwagamon smashed it's fist into his jaw while another jumped onto his back. Safe to say, try as he might ... It was all too much for him right now
"Greymon!" Tai yelled as rushed forwards, grabbing a pipe off the floor. This was it.
They could die
...
He wasn't gonna just curl up and cry! He wasn't letting his best friend go down alone! The chosen of Courage grabbed a metal pipe and slammed it against a Kuwagamon's leg with all his might, making it buckle lightly.
The beast snarled as it looked down... And quickly grabbed him in his arms
"GAAAAHHHH!" Tai yelled in pain as he was crushed
"TAI!" Greymon yelled in worry
"GREYMON!" Tai called back. His Digivice began to glow lightly, an orange shine filling the air. However the light was quickly vanquished as the nine Kuwagamon swarmed the two completely, blocking them from view.
All that was now visible was red insectoid carcasses crossing over each other...

"NOVA FLAME!"
A massive explosion of white hot flames rushed into the sky, the Kuwagamon swarm being deleted as fire rushed into the air.
Tai's eyes had to shut because of the intensity of the flames, flinching as he was dropped to the ground. He and Greymon crashed to the floor. The two panting and exhausted, their bodies shuddering in exhaustion. A soft yellow glow covered Greymon as he shrunk down back into Agumon, the partners laying there side by side "Agumon?" Tai mumbled
"Yeah Tai?"
"That... Was awesome."
"Thanks."

"Huh?" They blinked, looking up. Both heavily injured, almost unable to move. One brown eye and one green eyes shifted, seeing the portal as more Kuwagamon where crawling through
...
"Of course." Tai sighed as he lay back, looking at the night sky
"Sorry Tai." Agumon mumbled "I'm too tired... I can't anymore. I need to rest."
"Yeah. You haven't been Digivolved for that long for a while." Tai nodded in understanding "... You're the best, Agumon."
"You too, Tai." Agumon slowly and painfully tried to reach his claw to Tai to try and hold his hand as a friend.
"Grwaaarrr..." One Kuwagamon snarled, it's pincers clacking violently as it approached the two. Drool dripping from its jaws
"BLUE BLASTER!"
"SPIRAL TWISTER!"
"ELECTRO SHOCKER!"
"BOOM BUBBLE!"
The Kuwagamon was set alight by blue and green flames, a zap of yellow lightning and a concussive blast shot right into its armoured head.
"TAI!" Voices called out as they saw the pair lying on the ground.
"Huh?" The two blinked and moved up a bit, seeing their friends rushing towards them
"They came." Tai sighed in relief.
"Hold on guys!" Joe called out as he carried a medicine bag while carrying Gomamon.
"We're coming!" Mimi followed up as she and Palmon raced forwards.
"You bugs!" Kari glared in anger "How dare you hurt my brother!"
"You okay, fearless leader?" Matt asked as he knelt next to Tai, patting his shoulder gently
"Oh yeah, not bad. Almost crushed by a Kuwagamon's claw and lying here exhausted." Tai joked.
"I could use a deep tissue massage." Agumon followed.
"You need to work out more. A few years ago this would have been easy for you." Biyomon teased "You ARE getting a bit tubby."
"Geeze, thanks." Agumon huffed
"Leave this to us." Sora smiled as she brushed her hair behind her ear "We'll send these over grown cockroaches back to the hive."
"That portal." Izzy hummed "I wonder if that means the entryway to the Digital World is opening up again. How else would a swarm of Champion Level Digimon get through. Otherwise, surely we would have-"
"Izzy, we can talk about that later." TK said seriously "We have an infestation to deal with first!"
"I've always wanted to have a go at them!" Tentomon said eagerly as lightning sparked between his wings
"It's been a while since we've all been together like this!" Patamon cheered
"Just rest, okay?" Palmon asked
"Yeah, sure." Agumon laughed
"Joe. You and Gomamon stay back, tend to the knuckle heads." Matt instructed "The rest of us will deal with the swarm."
"Be careful guys. As soon as we took out one wave, a whole lot more showed up." Tai warned
"We know, we saw the fireworks." Mimi chuckled...
"LIGHTNING PAW!" Gatomon roared as she suddenly jumped up, giving an uppercut to the jaw of one Kuwagamon who got too close
"Enough talking, time for some payback!" Kari called "No one hurts my big brother and gets away with it!"
"You heard the lady." Matt smirked as he pulled his Digivice from his belt "Gabumon? Let's rock!"
"On it Matt!" Gabumon cheered as he rushed forwards, he and the Digivice glowing
"GABUMON! DIGIVOLVE TOO...!" Gabumon's body began to glow and change, his reptilian body soon grew and became a quadrupedal beast. His snout became elongated as his form turned into a large wolf. Four large paws with a long tail, six protruding tufts of fur on his back, a pair of long ears with a 'mane' around his neck, snarling teeth and strong muscles. His claws were a deep red, his eyes a piercing yellow, his silver fur covered with blue stripes and accents.
"GARURUMON!" The newly transformed Garurumon leapt into the air and hunted one Kuwagamon, their snout burning with blue flames.
"Don't leave us behind!" Biyomon called out as Sora pulled out her own Digivice.
"Let's go, Biyo!" she nodded
"BIYOMON! DIGIVOLVE TOO...!" Biyomon called out, flapping her wings as she soared to the air, her diminutive bird-like form seemed to triple or quadruple in size, their arm-like wings erupted into large fiery wings, her feet sprouted and grew as her body became slender. Her beak turned into a large maw with protruding teeth as her 'hair' became two long 'ears', her body was enrapt with flames as she Digivolved and formed this new being.
"BIRDRAMON!" The majestic bird Digimon flew through the air and soared at a Kuwagamon and clawed at it with her talons.
"Tentomon, be swift! It is time to introduce these bugs to their natural predator!" Izzy called as an indigo glow filled the air
"On the job, Izzy!" Tentomon cheered as he flew into the air "Tentomon, Digivolve too..."
The small bug's body glowed purple as he grew massively, growing the same size as Birdramon. His antenna straightened and merged into a single blades horn as a large black skull formed over his head, his eyes vanishing from view. His skin turned into a blue-ish purple, his body as thin and very similar to Kuwagamon's. His wings not having the protective shell his insectoid foes had
"KABUTERIMON!" he cheered as the purple light shattered away, his fists colliding with Kuwagamon's
"Joe lemme at 'em!" Gomamon called out, getting excited.
"Alright, Gomamon. Let's give them covering fire!" Joe answered, standing up as he finished patching up Agumon as a grey-silver glow filled around him.
"Gomamon, Digivolve to...!"
The small Gomamon erupted in size, his slick white fur became shaggy and poofy, his front and back flippers turned to large black paws with red claws, two long walrus tusks, large blue eyes and a large protruding horn from the centre of his forehead.
"IKKAKUMON!" He cheered as he leaned forwards and aimed his horn at a Kuwagamon. "HARPOON TORPEDO!"
KABOOM!
"Don't worry Joe, I'll stay close!" Ikkakumon urged "Do your doctor stuff, and I'll keep the bugs off ya!... No offense, Kabuterimon!"
"None taken!" He called, kicking the Kuwagamon before unleashing an electric blast from his entire body "ELECTRO SHOCKER!"
"Mimi! I'm gonna kick their asses!" Palmon cheered and rushed forth
"Do it, Palmon!" Mimi cheered back
"Palmon, Digivolve too...!" Palmon proclaimed, her steps towards the Kuwagamon turned to heavy 'thuds' as she grew.
From a small plant-like humanoid with a flower on their head, grew into a large humanoid with large fists; her body thickened out and turned an elongated round shape, her fists were revealed to be large red boxing gloves, her face were a pair of hollow eyes and a circular mouth, her flower was now a tuft of orange fur/hair, her entire body was a humanoid cactus with hundreds to thousands of needles covering their body.
"TOGEMON! Hurgh-HA!" She launched a fist into a Kuwagamon's face.
"Togemon! Alright!" Mimi cheered happily
"Patamon?" TK asked
"I'm on it, TK!" Patamon called out, flapping his bat-wing-like ears and began to glow. "Patamon, Digivolve to...!"
Patamon's body was drastically changing. That from a pudgy mammal-like form into a humanoid. it was a human-like body, six wings erupting from his back as a length of cloth was created and following that a straight pole, a helmeted head and long flowing hair.
Standing in the air was Patamon's Champion form. White-winged with white body-armour like skin, a grey helmet with a cross on the front, four grey 'clasps' on his chest and stomach, a folded pauldron in the shape of a sun on his left shoulder, his left arm was weighed down by bandages and metal finger rings, a golden bracelet on his right wrist, golden coverings on his boots and legs, a black belt with a sun for a buckle and a blue tabard over his crotch area.
"ANGEMON!"
"Kari, should I...?" Gatomon asked
Kari looked down at her bag... And shook her head "An Ultimate would cause too much damage. Go out as Champion."
Gatomon nodded as she heard that, leaping into action alongside the others. "Alright, you big dumb bugs...Time for this kitty to hunt." She jumped high, bouncing off Angemon's shoulder before dropping down and clawing onto one of the Kuwagamon's faces
"Whoa... I forgot how good they all were." Agumon sighed as he saw them.
"Not getting sentimental on me now; are you?" Tai chuckled.
"No." Agumon laughed "... Just wish I could still fight."
"You two stay still." Joe frowned
"Sorry, doc." Tai apologised.
"Not a doctor yet, Tai." Joe commented.
"Close enough for us." he smirked
Birdramon gave a mighty cry as she flew through the air and span around, easily dodging the bug Digimon attacking her 'I'll teach you for messing with my friends!' Birdramon thought as her wings began to glow with a bright orange light. "METEOR WING!"
Large flaming balls flew through the air, launching at the champion like a molten rain
BOOM!
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
The Kuwagamon screamed as it was pelted down to the ground, its shell melting and burning as it was hit by the barrage.
Togemon jumped high into the air, giving a few rapid punches. Her fists moving faster than most people could see "This is for blasting us off that cliff!" Togemon called out, smacking another Kuwagamon in the backs and faces "NEEDLE SPRAY!" Her needles shot out in the surrounding area, jabbing and stabbing into the Kuwagamon around her and distracting the enemies to give the others an opening.
"Thanks, Togemon!" Angemon called out, slamming his staff onto the head of his enemy. He span it almost like a literal tornado, a golden yellow twisted that he expertly used to throw around his foe. "Hraaa-ha!" He proclaimed, using his staff like an expert fighter. "HAND OF FATE!" he called dramatically, launching a large burst of light from his fist through his opponents stomach
The Kuwagamon grunted and gasped, falling to the ground as it was being digitized.
Garurumon snarled and gnawed at the Kuwagamon's body, tearing into its shell. "Attack MY friends, will ya?! You're unlucky, cause I'm starving!" Garurumon snarled as he kept attacking. He jumped back, his feet slamming it's feet into his foes jaw
"Screeeek!" the Kuwagamon yelled as it was thrown back
"HOWLING BLASTER!" Garurumon howled, unleashing blue flames that enveloped the Kuwagamon
"God, this feels JUST like the old days!" Matt admitted with a smirk
"In the old days, we'd get rolled by Devimon or Myotismon." Gatomon commented as she gave her foes a series of rapid blows
"Nice moves, Gatomon!" Agumon called out. "Bleh."
"Stay still, Agumon." Joe pushed him down to keep his bandages on "You two are so fussy."
"You're turning me into a 'MummyAgumon', it's restricting." Agumon responded.
"That means it's working." Joe answered.
"Your bedside manner needs work, Joe." Tai commented.
"Thanks for the feedback, Tai. Now lie still." Joe responded.
"Get away from them!" Ikkakumon proclaimed, protecting his friends with his horn.
"GRAAARGH!" The Kuwagamon screeched in rage as it tried to get in close, but found itself with a hole in its chest.
And with that, all that was left...
Was one.
"I think we've got good odds now." Birdramon commented, flying high.
"Finally. This took too damn long." Garurumon added.
"It's been forever since I stretched my wings like this!" Kabuterimon ribbed
"A bit unfair on the guy, don't ya think?" Togemon chuckled
"He and his swarm tried to kill Agumon and Tai!" Gatomon hissed
"Guy, we take too long and he's gonna fly away." Ikkakumon pointed out
"Then, let us deal judgment swiftly!" Angemon called "HAND OF F-"
CRUNCH!
Everyone froze in horror. Between when Angemon's hand began to glow and now, not even a full second... The Kuwagamon was now gone.
A giant black arm was in the Kuwagamon's place, emerging from the portal. It's hand clenched tightly, data flowing out of the gaps of the fingers. The arm made out of a regal and shiny black armour with sleek gold accents and detailing.
"Wh-what? What is that?" Gatomon gulped in shock as she saw the hand.
"That Digimon must be gigantic!" Kabuterimon panicked as the hand was larger than any of them. And it slowly pulled back into the portal...
The portal closed.
"What... Just happened?" Ikkakumon blinked
"I don't know." Birdramon frowned
"Whatever it was... It felt familiar to me." Garurumon snarled
"You too?" Agumon asked as he turned his head.
"We should head back. It's late." Joe commented.
As police and others arrived, making sure the location was safe and anyone in the crossfire was not hurt.
Tai frowned as he looked at the damage, his fist clenching. 'It's too much.' He thought to himself, looking at the destruction those wild Digimon caused... it was going to give Digimon a bad name.
"Tai? You okay?" Kari asked as she got close to him.
"Yeah...Yeah, I'm okay." He nodded.
"Izzy, what was that thing?" Mimi asked in worry.
"I'm not sure, but... it was definitely a humanoid Digimon's hand." Izzy responded, "But I don't know which one."
"If Izzy does not know, we are in trouble." Mimi joked
*the next day*
Tai and Agumon were back home, their bodies were sore from the Kuwagamon attack "Time to meet with the others." Tai grunted
"Need a hand?" Agumon asked as he was back to full strength... more or less.
"I'm fine." Tai nodded... and helped, falling to his knees after standing straight. He held his knee, his body shuddering as he let out a shaky breath "Oh... oh god." he whispered "I guess... I guess soccer really is over for me..." he hissed in pain, holding back tears
"Hey, hey. It's okay." Agumon went to his side and helped him up to a chair. "It's gonna be alright."
"God damn it." Tai hissed, heart broken
Agumon remained there with Tai; however, outside the door, Kari and Gatomon were waiting... and they could hear it al.
'Tai. Agumon.' Both of them thought about their respective partners and they felt guilty.
They felt responsible for not being there to help earlier. If they were just a few minutes earlier... maybe Tai wouldn't be in this shape.
*time skip*
The original eight had gathered underneath a bridge in Japan, Izzy typing away on his computer "Just a moment. They're connecting." He instructed
The Digimon were looking at each other, worried about what was happening to their home.
"You think that they've got any signal?" Matt asked.
"Probably, it's Yolei and Davis; right?" Joe answered.
"Yeah, they can't survive without going on WeTube for a day." TK joked
"YOOOOOOO! IS THIS THING ON?!" a voice screamed through the computer's speakers suddenly
"GAAAAH!" The group jerked back.
"Davis, you idiot! Don't yell into the microphone!" Mimi snapped.
"My bad, I forgot I had this on a high volume." Izzy added.
"Still, you didn't have to yell into the mic, Davis." A second voice answered, coming from another person as the screen was showing four people and Digimon on screen.
The first, in the middle, was the young man Kari and TK's age who shouted. He wore a loose white tee-shirt with a weird blue and yellow pattern on it, and if they COULD see him from the waist down they'd see he had blue shorts on as well. He had short red-brown hair that was spiky, and brown eyes, Hanging around his neck was a pair of pilots goggles with rather big lenses.
The second, on the left, was a young woman with long purple hair, round-framed glasses and a yellow vest with red shorts. On her head was a blue bandanna that kept her head covered.
Behind the red head was a tall male with short blue hair and blue eyes wearing a grey shirt with a v-neck, grey shorts and a pair of black trainers with a black wristwatch.
And to the right, the smallest member, was a brown bowl-cut haired young boy wearing a beige cotton shirt, blue shorts and brown eyes. Wearing a baseball cap with the shield over his eyes.
"Hey guys." Kari waved
"Hey, guys!" They responded.
"Hey, Kari. How's it going?" The red-haired boy asked.
"Davis, move out of the way, we can't see them." The blue-haired boy commented, trying to push him.
"Guys." Tai laughed
It took a few minutes before everyone settled down, the original 8 sat around the laptop
"So, what did we miss back home?" The blue-haired boy asked. "You wouldn't be calling us unless it was something important."
"Yesterday... a swarm of Kuwagamon emerged." Izzy frowned "From the Digital World."
Silence.
Silence fell upon the four that where currently overseas.
"Sorry... I must be tired." Davis commented "Did you say a swarm of Kuwagamon showed up?!"
"You heard that right." Matt answered. "Tai and Agumon... they took them on."
"Hell yeah we did!" Agumon cheered ... "Ow!"
"But... how?" Yolie asked in horror "The gate has been closed for three years! So many Digimon have been trapped on our side and we haven't heard a peep since it went up! What now?"
"We don't know. That's what we're trying to find out." Izzy answered.
"Maybe it's just a crack. A small tear that was repaired." Joe theorised
"Yeah." Ken nodded "Gennai would have contacted us if the gate was open again... Wouldn't he?"
"We haven't heard anything from him in years." Mimi admitted.
"And this isn't important enough for him to mention it?" Davis asked.
"This is all very suspicious." Cody hummed, rubbing his chin
"I've got to be honest; something terrible might be happening in the Digital World." Izzy admitted. "After the Kuwagamon attack there was something else."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Ken asked.
"A large humanoid hand. Wearing black armour." Izzy explained.
"So... a giant Digimon, right?" Davis asked. "Probably Mega Level. Should we come back?"
"No." Tai shook his head "Tell the other DigiDestined at the convention. Make sure everyone is ready for when they get home, as well as have the chance to let their own teams know. While Japan may be the closest connection point for the Digital World, we don't know what this situation is exactly. Could be a hole in the barrier, could be the gate is open. We don't know. So we need to be ready."
"Alright, we hear you loud and clear." Yolei answered with the others nodding
"And we'll be careful. If anything happens, we'll try and contact you." Cody added.
"Good." Matt nodded
"Oh and one more thing." Mimi added.
"What?" They asked.
"You four are rocking those summer outfits." She smiled.
"Mimi!" Sora facepalmed
"What? I don't want to leave a phone call on a downer." Mimi answered with a wink and a chuckle
"I... Don't know what to do with you." Sora sighed with a chuckle.
"Later." The group responded, closing the window.
"Wait!" TK suddenly called dramatically before the call ended

"What?" The other kids over in America asked in shock
"Davis." TK said in a super serious tone, the tensions rising...
...
"Yeah?..." The second goggle head gulped
...
"What are those marks around your neck?" TK smirked in a super teasing way "Those look like hickies to me!"
...
"WHAT?!" the other seven around him yelled, the girls having a slight squeal of excitement
"I-I don't know what you're talking about!" Davis' eyes darted around and tried to get away from the camera.
"No way, they are!" Sora gasped "Who is Davis?! Who?!" She asked like an excited big sister
"She-" Davis blushed, looking away.
"TK, Tai? You remember Catherine?" Ken asked with a teasing voice
"Oh yeah... French Catherine..." TK nodded.
"Her? Really?" Tai asked in shock.
"Yeah, she met up with us and she and Davis really hit it off." Yolei answered.
"Yolei, come on!" Davis whined.
"You two got together?" Tai continued, while TK groaned gently.
"Yes, it was honestly funny because Davis was embarrassed by it." Ken commented.
"Hey!" Davis huffed
"You were beet red when you first kissed, don't lie." Yolei poked him.
"Great, I'm being ganged up on." Davis grumbled
"You know we're only doing it because we're friends." Cody answered.
"Good on you buddy." Tai nodded
"I... err... Thanks. What should we do if a Digital Gate opens again?" Davis responded as he quickly tried to change the subject
"We already said, contact us and try and look after yourselves." Kari answered.
"Yeah. We'll look after Japan until the convention is over and you get home." Tai nodded "It'll be fine."
"Don't worry, we will." Ken gave a thumbs up.
"We'll call you if there's anything wrong on our side." Yolei added.
"Good... Night." The gang responded, waving the second generation DigiDestined goodbye. Since... Time zones, the other guys where currently at night time.
Beep
Beep
"Okay, we've told them." Sora sighed in relief.
"Now... what do we do now? Try and contact Gennai?" Joe asked.
"I tried, all night. I couldn't get through." Izzy sighed
"This is serious." Matt frowned, realising what it could mean for the Digital World.
"Yeah, if something is forcing Kuwagamon to flee the Digital World, something more dangerous must be lying deeper inside." Tai agreed, his leg still hurting.
"We'll find it out, Tai." Kari answered sympathetically, rubbing his back.
"Thanks, Kari." Tai responded, getting to his feet.
"For now... There's nothing else we can do but keep an eye out. Right?" Sora asked as she smiled softly at Tai
"Exactly." Izzy responded.
"Okay, then we better get a move on." Matt answered.

"Oh, I've got an attitude?!" Sora snapped back. She wore a yellow loose shirt with long sleeves, a bird design soaring across it. With that she wore some generic blue trousers and some pink trainers with white detailing.
"Damn it Sora, I was TRYING to apologise!" Matt snapped

Izzy wore some beige three-quarter length trousers with lots of pockets, a button-up shirt with a Tentomon/Kabuterimon embroidery on his left breast, grey walking shoes with red/purple detailing.
"Izzy, do you need some caffeine or something? You look exhausted." Mimi asked.
"Please." he nodded
"Here." Biyomon said, holding out a can of coffee.
Izzy took it and began to drink.
And drink...
And drink...
SLAM!
And he threw the can into the trash with all his might, his eyes wide and twitching a bit
"Oh... oh no..." Palmon mumbled
"It happened again..." Gomamon sweat dropped
"W-Would you like to sit down, Izzy?" Kari stuttered
"No time!" he shrieked "We have work to do! Science has been done! Sleep... is for the weak!"
"... Oh god. He's been at this for 24 hours straight." Agumon sweat dropped
"He did it again." Gabumon sighed, the others nodding
"I'm sorry." Biyomon mumbled
"HERE!" Izzy said as he shoved his computer into everyone's faces
"Izzy! Back it up! Our eyes aren't accustomed to having screens in our faces 24/7!" Gomamon asked.
"Calm it down!" Tai added
"Can't! Have to show you!" Izzy panicked. "Look!"
Everyone took a half step back and did as they were told.
Where they saw a bunch of randomly coloured bars, squiggling lines and random words and numbers
'What are we looking at?' Mimi thought to herself.
"Nice art project." Gabumon quipped
"Um, Izzy? Maybe translate the data-speak, please?" TK asked.
"That is the barrier between the human and Digital World!" Izzy yelled

"Izzy. We aren't geniuses." Sora reminded softly
"Oh..." he blinked and pulled back "Basically the barrier between worlds is made out of three layers-"
"Like an Oreo!" Mimi cheered

"An Oreo?" Matt deadpanned
"What? They are tasty." she huffed
"Well, anyway." Izzy coughed "There is our side of the gate, the Digital World's version of the Gate and the gap in-between. The in-between is the transfer of data and information between the two worlds. However the gap in-between is acting almost like rock, eroding both sides Gates as it flows information between them."
"So the gate natural erodes?" Kari asked in worry "Is that what is going on?"
"Yes!" Izzy nodded
"Why weren't we warned about this then?" TK frowned
"Because it isn't supposed to!" Izzy cheered

"What?" Tai blinked
"You see, the Gates natural repair themselves." Tentomon explained "As the data flows back and forth, the Gates repair the small amount of damage created. Sometimes it gets a bit thin and a hole breaks through, hence the Koromon and Parrotmon from when you where all children, but that is super rare."
"I see..." Gomamon nodded sagely as he had his front flippers crossed and eyes closed, nodding along with Izzy and Tentomon's words
"You understand this?" Agumon whisper-asked his fellow Rookie
"Not a word." Gomamon added in the same tone of voice, eyes still closed
"Boys." Gatomon whispered
"So... why bring this up? And why is the gate eroding, then?" Joe asked
"Because the Digital World's side of the gate has vanished!" Izzy explained "And so all the in-between is rushing against ours like hot water being poured on a block of ice!"
"Then whatever's coming from the Digital Side... is coming over here." Tai responded, trying to keep up.
"They are trying to brute force their way through." Sora added
"AFTER taking out the Digital World's defences." Matt finished, darkly
"Then... we've got to put those defences up." Kari answered.
"Do... Do you guys think Gennai is still alive?" Mimi asked suddenly, upset and the heaviness hit everyone all at once. It was something they didn't want to admit. Something that they hoped was true.
"Izzy..." Tentomon urged
"Oh! Right! Here!" Izzy nodded as he ripped open the bag and pulled out...
"Goggles?" the group asked
"Yes. Goggles." Izzy nodded.
"... But I brought my own pair." Tai commented. "A new pair. A while ago... I don't really wear them like I use to."
"I know! But these ones are new! Special! Let you see the barrier and see weak spots! And if a Digimon is close!" Izzy ranted, his voice slurring a bit
"Oh no, he's getting close to passing out." Gabumon said in worry
"Wait... did he make the Goggles useful?" TK blinked
"I think so." Kari nodded
"Made sunglasses for everyone else, clip on's for Joe. But had to limit their effectiveness because of size and convenience. For now this is our best option. Goggles where best solution, for you! For Tai! Izzy is sleep! night night!" the Chosen of Knowledge ranted, pushing the goggles against Tai's chest... and he passed out
"Poison Ivy!" Palmon called as she unleashed her vines, catching Izzy before he passed out
"And I got the PC!" Agumon cheered, having caught the falling laptop
"Oh thank goodness." Tentomon sighed "Try not to break it."
"Hey, that was one time!" Agumon responded.
Tentomon hummed as he opened his bag, handing out a series of sunglasses to everyone. The glasses where in cases coloured after everyone's Crests, with the symbols of their Crests atop them.
All but Tai, who was looking down at his new set of Goggles and taking in their design.
They had rectangular clear transparent lenses and a silver frame, a soft black material to make sure his eyes were covered and protected. Connecting them was a blue strap with a familiar orange sun symbol decorating it
"Wow." Tai whispered as he looked at the goggles and their design. "Good work Izzy." He looked down at the goggles... and turned them around. Opening the band he slipped them on. Adjusting it... it quickly fit perfectly.

Why did wearing these feel RIGHT?
He ran his finger across the frame and smirked. No way he'd forget now.
"Courage... gives you the wings to fly." he whispered to himself and smirked, turning to the others "Alright guys!" he called
The six other, conscious, DigiDestined and all eight partners turned to Tai, giving him their full attention
"It's time!" he said "We got a new Adventure. Someone in the Digital World is wrecking everything, potentially destroying both worlds at worse! We aren't gonna let that happen, are we? We are going to keep our eyes open, take down any Digimon that slip through and get any and all answers we can! It's up to us once again! The Chosen Children! The DigiDestined! So, what say you we show this Digital Disaster not to mess with our friends?"
"Just like the good old days." Matt smirked
"Makes you feel nostalgic." Gabumon sighed
"Stupid Tai." Sora chuckled at the cheesy speech "He looks better now that he's wearing the goggles."
"Well, luck the school and everyone understands my responsibilities as a DigiDestined." Joe nodded
"Yeah, but you've never been that good at responsibility. Have you Joe?" Gomamon snickered "Always been more of the Sincere type."
"Might need to get a new wardrobe." Mimi mumbled to herself "My stuff isn't suited for a new adventure. Too hard to move fast in or rips too easily."
"I'll start planning out the room redecoration." Palmon chuckled
"Good work Izzy." Tentomon soothed
"Zzz..." Izzy snored weakly
"Back at it again!" TK nodded as he gripped his D3
"All ready for some Holy Justice!" Patamon cheered
"He seems like his old self again." Kari smiled softly
"Back where he belongs." Gatomon agreed
"You ready for this, Tai?" Agumon grinned
"You know it buddy!" Tai nodded, fist bumping.
Meanwhile up high, the sky rippled for a moment. And a dark knight like being was visible for just a moment...
