Chapter 37
"I am sorry that it came down to this Lena," Kara said. They were sitting on the couch inside the blonde's apartment. Thanks to Kate letting them use the Wayne Enterprises' jet, they had arrived back in time to be there for their friend as Lillian and Andrea were hauled off to an ARGUS prison.
"I knew it was coming and to be honest she always loved Lex more anyway. Yet… and of course Andrea…" the raven-haired woman let her thoughts hang there.
"You have us," Alex spoke up from the cushy chair not far away.
"Yeah Lena, we're here for you," Nia said, trying to reassure her friend as well. She brought the raven-haired woman a glass of wine from the kitchen. The four were waiting on Kelly and the takeout food that the woman promised to bring.
"I appreciate that, I do. I've always wanted to move on from my family, if you could call them that, and this would seem to be the opportunity," Lena shrugged before taking a sip of the wine that Nia had given her. The doorbell rang and Kara got up to answer it.
"A sight for sore eyes," Kara smiled at Kelly.
"Well, I did get us some yummy food but look who I found in the hallway," the woman smirked. Kara raised an eyebrow only to find M'gann out there.
"Were you waiting out here?" The blonde was confused.
"No, I just happened to be coming out of the stairwell at the time Kelly was coming out of the elevator," the White Martian smiled.
"Excellent timing then. Come on in you two. Now we can really have a party," Kara winked, helping her friends to get the pizza, French fries, potstickers, and ice cream.
"So, Kate couldn't come with you? Even for one night?" Lena changed the subject as they all began to hover around the food, selecting what they wanted to eat.
"She has quite a few irons in the fire, including dealing with her father who does not like her night job," Kara explained as she put the ice cream in the freezer for later.
"Oh boy. That sounds complicated. Well, I heard that she's due back in National City soon. Obsidian North and CatCo. are still in her receivership," Kelly said, picking up her now full plate and heading for the dining table.
"Yes and she promised to bring me up to speed with everything when she gets a date settled," the blonde smiled slightly. It was her turn for potstickers and pizza.
"I can imagine Wayne Enterprises seeing a use for Obsidian North but I'm not sure the bad press would be worth it," Lena admitted, heading for the table as well.
"Well, they could just mine the scientists and other technical staff. Or maybe rename it and rebrand it, like you did with L Corp," Alex pointed out. She placed her plate next to Kelly and sat down next to her girlfriend.
"Maybe I'll reach out, offer my thoughts, if she's interested. That of course leaves CatCo.," Lena said from her spot at the table. The Luthor did not want to take the company back over but if Kate had to drop it or could only find buyers that were interested in turning the media outlet into something that she viewed as more harmful than helpful, she'd attempt to jump in. That's when Kara's phone rang. She quickly excused herself and answered it.
"Hey, how's things in National City?" It was Kate.
"One baby step at a time for Lena but we're working through it. Everything ok with you?" Kara was concerned that her friend was calling after only leaving her earlier in the day.
"I got a phone call from Cat Grant not long after you left. She's coming to Gotham tomorrow. I was wondering if you had any pointers," Kate explained.
"Miss Grant? She called you?" Kara was very surprised.
"I think she wants a stab at getting CatCo. back. Right now, I'm not seeing that as a bad thing," her friend admitted.
"I will fill you in after the ladies leave. You'll be up late, right?" Kara smirked.
"You know it," Kate chuckled and they said goodbye. The blonde quickly headed back to the others and they resumed their night. There was a lot of healing to be done and it wouldn't be all done tonight but it was a start.
