Tac worked quickly to decide what system to begin his repairs with first. He was just getting into the panel where the life support systems would be accessed when he noticed that a fire had started in the compartment and was burning through the wires of not just that system but several others. Likely the reason for the multiple system failures.
He activated the fire suppression system and quickly did a survey of the damage. There was no way to repair it before the ship would become uninhabitable for the humans. He had to think fast. He returned to where the humans were still drifting in the zero gravity in the corridor and took first his mistress then his master to the escape pod and closed them inside it. He then locked it from the outside to make sure that if they woke up that they wouldn't leave their small emergency pod whose systems were still fully functional.
As the techno-service droid prepared to get to work on repairing the damage from the strange animals a transmission came through. At least the communications system had made it through the run in with the purrgil.
"We saw that you've made enemies of the purrgil. We've run them off but can see from our readings that you require assistance," a stranger's voice could be heard. If Tac could have he would have released a breath of relief when he heard the man. "Prepare for a tractor beam to lock onto your ship."
"Affirmative. Your assistance is appreciated. I must also request aid for the two humans on board. Both were knocked out and injured during the encounter."
"We'll have the infirmary standing by."
Kallus started to wake up and thought about the strange dream that he'd had. He went to sit up and felt the presence of a massive headache when he did. He put a hand to his head and realized he had a good sized bump forming in two different locations. So perhaps it hadn't been a dream after all.
"Please, sit back until it can be determined if you have further injuries," a mechanical voice could be heard. Kallus looked around and saw that it belonged to a medical droid.
"Where am I?" He asked as he looked around to see that Kiara was on another bio-bed next to him.
"You are on the Point of Light. The general has requested that she be made aware of when you have awakened. She will be here to answer any questions that you have momentarily."
Kallus nodded with a bit of confusion. The medical droid looked to be an older model but well cared for. In fact, it looked brand new. Perhaps they were on a rebel ship. Granted, he wasn't aware of any who would be on the way to the Lothal system. To be fair, though, he wasn't sure what system the purrgil had pulled them into when they knocked them out of hyperspace.
When he looked over at the next bio-bed he saw where Kiara was starting to wake up. "How are you feeling?"
"I don't think you really want me to answer that right now," Kiara rubbed her shoulder where she must have hit it on something after she was knocked out. "Where are we?"
"I'm not sure. I know that this isn't an Imperial ship, not any that I'm aware of, anyway. Our medical droid friend over there said something about the general coming down now that we are awake. So a rebel ship, perhaps?" He saw that she was trying to concentrate, likely on the force, and noticed that her look of confusion only increased. "What is it?"
"I'm not sure. Things... Feel different. And there are other force users on this ship."
"Inquisitors?" Kallus reached down for his blaster only to realize that he hadn't had time to strap it to his side when the purrgil attacked.
"No. There's not anything to indicate any dark intentions. In fact," Kiara paused since it wasn't possible. Her brother had been planning to leave for the Hoth system after she and Alex left the base. Still... "If I didn't know better I'd swear that Kanan was on this ship."
"I do not know who this Kanan is, but it does gratify me to know that you are not a dark side user, either. I had been concerned when my men came across your ship and then I sensed a great disturbance in the force when you were removed from it."
Both Kiara and Alexsandr looked up to find a female Chalactan, a near human alien who had small protrusions on her forehead, walking in from the side office where the medical staff would adjourn to when their patients didn't require them. She wore brown robes that Kiara knew from her studies as well as her mother's obsession with them that the robes were the traditional garb of the Jedi. But that wasn't possible. Or has she and Alexsandr found one of the few remaining Jedi who had somehow survived since the near extinction of the Order? But she hadn't been told that there were other Jedi who worked with the rebellion.
"You seem confused. Perhaps the hits to your heads were stronger than the medical droid determined."
"No. I guess I'm just not used to seeing Jedi around. Not any more, at least." Kiara glanced around to take in the appearance of infirmary where they'd been taken. "I do appreciate your assistance. May I ask how my ship fared?"
The woman smiled. A pilot of nearly any ship would always seem to ask about their ship before verifying their own well-being. "I've instructed my troopers to assist your droid in repairing your ship. It would appear that more than half of the ship's systems were damaged, however. Including life support."
Both members of the crew were surprised by hearing that they'd lost life support. Kallus gave a grateful smile. "Then it would seem that we owe you a debt for rescuing us."
"It was nothing that any other shouldn't do when coming across such a scene. Though I must admit that I've never seen a ship dropped out of hyperspace within the tentacles of a purrgil before. They've been known to harass ships from time to time but never actually drag them from their routes." Kiara was surprised to hear that they had done that, too. What could have possessed the creatures to do such a thing? The woman in Jedi garb then added, "You are welcomed to stay here on my ship for as long as needed to repair yours. I've rarely come across other force users who are neither Jedi nor Sith. I'm intrigued by your presence. My name is Master Billaba."
That name sounded familiar to Kiara but she couldn't place it. "I've studied the ancient teachings of the Kwa. I'm Kiara and this is Alex-"
"Please, call me Kallus," he added in behind Kiara.
"Alright. Now that the two of you are well enough, perhaps I should take the two of you to the accommodations that I've had set aside. And you likely could use a meal, as well."
Master Billaba guided the two strangers out of the room. As she did so, they were struck with just how much more was wrong than they had first thought upon waking up on the strange type of ship that neither were familiar with. Outside of the door were soldiers waiting to walk with their general as she led the way. Kiara whispered to Alex in a tone that was nearly inaudible.
"When I heard her say troopers I thought that... But those aren't Storm Troopers."
"No, they're not. They're Clone Troopers," Kallus confirmed as he looked around carefully.
"How?"
Kallus shook his head ever so slightly. "I have no idea."
"Master!" The sound of a young adolescent could be heard calling as he approached the Jedi with Valour and Kallus in tow.
"Caleb, what have I said about being so enthusiastic while running through the corridors?" The woman admonished patiently.
The young teen boy, with brown hair with a single long braid amongst his otherwise short haircut defined him as being a padawan, let out a breath in response to the question. "That I should save the energy for when we are in true need of doing so."
Kiara listened as the woman spoke to the young boy who looked very familiar somehow. In fact, he was the same boy that she'd seen in the vision that Kanan had shared with her. And the woman had called him-
No, it couldn't be. Could it?
Kiara never realized that she'd stopped walking upon hearing Caleb's name. She'd stood there frozen in place as she realized not so much of where she and Alex had gone to but when.
Kallus stopped when he noticed that Kiara had done the same and followed her line of sight.
Caleb.
"Kiara? Could it be-?"
Kiara nodded and whispered, "Kanan."
Master Billaba had overheard everything and turned her attention back to the two strangers as she approached a set of unused living quarters so that she could sit with them to find out just what has them so confused. She'd never even heard of these Storm Troopers that they had mentioned. Though most of all, she didn't like the way that the woman was looking at her apprentice.
"Caleb, I'll be wrapped up with our visitors for a while. In the meantime, I want you to practice your lightsaber training."
"Can't I stay? Their ship is really cool. Even if it is a mess right now. They have things on there that I couldn't even figure out what they were for."
Despite the strangeness of the situation Kiara couldn't help but find this younger version of her brother to be endearing and more than just a little innocent. She smiled and couldn't help but tell him, "I've made quite a few modifications of my own design."
"What are they all for?" Caleb asked as he turned to look at the female stranger.
"A little bit of everything. After all, one never knows what they will come across in space."
"Especially now with the war," the boy agreed. "Will you show me some of it later on?"
Kiara looked toward the woman who was watching on with affection in her eyes for the boy. "Perhaps later on if it is okay with your master. But for now, I think you'd best go train with your lightsaber as she said. Otherwise, you may not end up the strong and powerful Jedi that I suspect is your destiny to become."
Caleb gave a crooked grin in reply and headed away from the small group just as enthusiastically as he'd first arrived.
"This way." The Jedi led the couple into the room and requested that her troopers remain outside. Kallus could tell that her men weren't comfortable with their general speaking with the strangers alone. After all, as far as they knew, they could be homicidal maniacs. Kallus suspected that they would likely see the truth to be even worse. With the door closed she motioned to some chairs that were arranged to look at one another in a circle. "Please, have a seat."
Kiara and Alex both took a seat beside the other as Depa Billaba sat across from them both.
"Now, when we were back in the Infirmary you mentioned something about Inquisitors. Then you said that you are not used to seeing Jedi anymore. Then the two of you seemed to be surprised to see my clone troopers and instead referenced a Storm Trooper. What is that? And then there was your unusual response to my padawan. I really must insist that you tell me what is going on."
Kallus shook his head as he replied, "I'm not sure you'd believe us if we told you."
"Try me?" The Jedi leaned back in her seat and placed her hands in her lap.
Kiara and Alex exchanged a look before she took a deep breath. "I'll start off with saying that you can at least confirm my identity with the Jedi temple back on Coruscant. My bio-signature will be on file with those of the rest of the force users who were tested but then were chosen to not be taken to the temple for training."
Depa raised a brow since that seemed an odd way to start the conversation. "And why would I need to do that?"
"Because otherwise you may not believe that we-" Kiara bit the inside of her cheek as she tried to decide if she should tell the woman who they were and where they had come from. Wouldn't it change the past? Should they change it if they had the power to? If they were here wouldn't it speak to the Wills of the Force and that maybe they did want to change things? After all, if it wasn't the will of the force then they wouldn't have been able to come here, right? Ugh! Thinking like this was starting to hurt her head. "We have somehow, with the assistance of the purrgil, travelled through not just space but time as well."
The Jedi looked between the two individuals and sensed nothing but true sincerity. So if nothing else, they believed what they were telling her. "You travelled through time? With the purrgil?" She asked with more than a bit of disbelief. "And they did that only to decide to leave you stranded here as well?"
Kallus wasn't sure how he'd be able to explain it to the woman, either. But then, perhaps it wasn't his place to try. "I know it is hard to believe."
"Yes, it is." The Jedi Master waited for the pair to continue with their exceptional story. She looked to the woman and asked, "And you said that your identity can be confirmed. And who would that be, exactly?"
Kiara swallowed hard before she replied, "I was born Kiara Dume. The younger sister of your padawan, Caleb Dume."
Depa carefully eyed the woman sitting across from her. She thought back to the look that had been on her face upon seeing Caleb. And of course the way she'd spoken with him. "So, I take it that my padawan does become a powerful Jedi."
Kiara smiled as she thought that there wasn't any other way that she could describe Kanan. "Power-wise, he may not be the strongest but he has found a way to find a balance that eludes most Jedi. And he's proven himself over and over again. He has become what I would consider the epidemy of the best qualities of the Jedi."
"And of course, a good friend to those who know him," Kallus added.
Depa used her senses and could feel that the two were being honest with her; even if it was hard to believe. "So, how far into the future are you from?"
"How old is Caleb?" Kiara asked since that would be the standard that she could determine time with.
"He just turned fourteen," the master responded as she saw the pair exchange looks.
"Then this is under a year before the purge. Maybe only a few months," Kiara muttered to herself before adding, "Just less than twenty years."
"Purge? What purge?"
"Kiara, I don't know that we should say anymore about that," Kallus warned.
She shook her head. "Our presence has already changed things. Set things in motion. Remember what Kanan said about why Ezra couldn't find his own way back to the rest of crew? That things were about to change..." Kiara took a deep breath. "Plus, Master Billaba, here, said that she felt a disturbance to the force when we arrived. Other force users would have, as well. Both Jedi and the Sith. The time line that we came from likely has already been altered or has collapsed. Meaning that we can't go back."
Kallus thought back to the fact that one of those Sith was the current Chancellor, unbeknownst to the Jedi and galaxy at large, and he grew concerned if the man could sense their sudden appearance in this time period. If he could, then he likely would be sending someone to investigate soon. And their ship wasn't in any condition to be flying for their lives in it. That meant that he and Kiara would be dependent upon the Jedi and her clone troopers to protect them from any dark acolytes sent to find them. Reluctantly, he nodded to her.
"Soon," Kiara thought back to when she was still so young. She'd been twelve when the Empire was created. "The war will end but it will devastate the Jedi Order. The exact details can wait for later. But in our time, there are less than a few hundred Jedi left, scattered throughout the entire galaxy. And of those, nearly all are in hiding. In fact, Kan- Caleb and his apprentice are the only ones until you whom I've met since the end of the Clone War."
Master Billaba couldn't imagine what sort of disaster could wipe out the Jedi Order. The Jedi numbered in the tens of thousands. What could wipe out so many in such a timeframe? She had so many questions but perhaps she was right; now wasn't the best time to get those answers. And the woman had made a good point. If she felt the disturbance in the force then the chances that the Sith Lords in the galaxy also detected it was high.
"I will alert the High Council of our approach to Coruscant. Perhaps they can assist in determining what we should all do, next. And you can fully explain what you know."
