Thursday 11th of June 1998

Alicia, Audrey and Charlie were at the black market in Plymouth. They were having lunch in silence, they were exhausted and upset. They had been spending the last few days in Plymouth, trying, in vain, to catch the three infamous Death Eaters that Hermione and Fred had encountered a few days ago

The three Aurors had been waiting all week to finally get an owl or a patronus from Kinsgley that would finally tell them to come back to the Ministry. The long-awaited patronus had finally arrived on the morning, they could come back to London since apparently the Death Eaters had been spotted, with Greyback, in Manchester a bit after midnight.

They knew that Kingsley was getting more annoyed by the minute but they really had tried their best to catch them, well almost as Audrey kept saying.

Their task was not an easy one though, the Death Eaters were skilled wizards. Besides, Dolohov' silenced spells, that were only known by himself, were a real threat. His spells were lethal so even if it was three against three with Dolohov, it was like being outnumbered all the time. Alicia, Audrey and Charlie had tried different tactics but none of them had worked. Audrey was especially mad at Charlie whom she was accusing of always ruining her plans.

Even though Audrey was the best dueller, she had put Alicia in charge of Dolohov as Alicia was the most gifted with charms and the most talented with silenced spells too. She believed it to be the best strategy unfortunately for Audrey, Charlie, who was supposed to take care of Lestrange, was always diverting his attention from his Death Eater to jump next to Alicia whenever he was seeing Dolohov muttering under his breath, something that was driving Audrey nuts. Not only she had to deal with Charlie and Alicia bedroom eyes all day long but she also had to cope with Charlie's over zealousness. She was very tired and could not wait to be back to London even if it would be only for the weekend.

Thankfully, it was finally their weekend of rest, no guard, no nothing for 72 hours. It was the only joyful thing Audrey could think of and she was determined to stay away from her teammates the entire weekend. She needed to be away from them for a couple of days or she would killed them. They were getting on her nerves, so much that she had even thought of telling Kingsley about the too flirtatious attitude of her teammates.

She had not done such thing for two reasons, first she did not want Kingsley to believe that she was jealous and second she did not really want to be paired with anyone else either. They really were the best team, the more complete in terms of skills, strength and knowledge, well when Charlie was not distracted by Alicia…

Audrey had fought already several times with Alicia about that issue. Indeed, she had implied, more than once, that if Alicia would not be that « charming » perhaps Charlie would be more focused on his job instead of trying to get into her pants. Alicia had not taken the accusations very well for reasons that she had not bothered to explain to Audrey so she had simply yelled back at Audrey, telling her that she was just jealous. Everyone who was working at the Ministry had heard them fight at least once in the last few days and everyone was still firmly believing that the two witches were still fighting over Charlie's attention.

Yes, Audrey needed that time off. She raised her gaze from her plate of roasted lamb to look at Charlie and Alicia. For an unknown reason, they had not said a word since they had come back to the B&B last night, odd.

Audrey was wondering if something could have happened between them the night before. While she was at the pub getting informations from one of their moles, they were supposed to stand guard over her, they were hiding in one of Plymouth's dark alley and when she had come out of the bars, she had found them flushed and in a rather strange position, again odd.

Should she take advantage of their silence to remind them that any kind of love/sexual relationships was forbidden between Aurors? Perhaps, yet as she would rather stay another week in that dirty B&B than fighting with them, she said nothing.

As they were about to leave, Audrey, who was more loquacious than her teammates, could not take it anymore and asked :

« Is there something wrong? Do I have a papule on my nose? »

Charlie and Alicia shook their heads.

Rolling her eyes she asked them : « Did the cat get your tongues? »

Alicia rolled her yes too and replied that nothing was wrong, she was tired. She wanted to go back to London and enjoy her weekend off. Charlie mumbled a what she said.

Audrey frowned, something had definitely happened. She could not say what but she was positive, something had occurred the previous night. She sighed, it was bound to happen, was not it? Flirting was not an everlasting game and at some point sexual tension had to be broken. Could it be an issue? Yes but Audrey was sure that it could not be worst than before. Perhaps they could finally work properly (or not). She would have to wait and see.

« Alright, let's go enjoy freedom then » she said with a smirk on her face that neither Alicia or Charlie understood

They apparated in London a few minutes later. Kingsley was waiting for them in his office. He greeted them with gritted teeth. Being straight forward as usual, he informed them that Bill, Harry and Ron would go to Manchester to try to catch the Death Eaters. Audrey did not take the news well to say the least. She shared her opinion about that decision, that punishment …

« I am sorry Audrey but you, Alicia and Charlie will stay around the Ministry next week. I need help with Yaxley and I want you to pay a visit to all the ones who are affirming that they had never been on Voldemort' side, it includes having a tour of their properties to get rid of every potential cursed or bewitched artefacts, Malfoy's manor included. » explained Kingsley

« But aren't Neville, Seamus and Dean supposed to work on those private tours? Why us? » complained Audrey

« Indeed but they are not experienced enough to recognise all the potentials artefacts so I have decided to have them as the emergency team from now on. If one of the teams needs help, you SOS them and they will come immediately. » explained Kinglsey calmly

« Aren't Marianne, John and Williamson supposed to be the SOS team? » asked Audrey curtly

« They are too busy with keeping an eye on Azkaban and checking the boarders. Proudfoot, Tulip and Savage remain the main one for the boarders but they need help. »

« Is not there any other team that could do it? » insisted Audrey

Kingsley firmly and sharply answered : « No. Now Audrey, I would appreciate if you could stop questioning my choices. Harry, Bill and Ron have proven to be as good as you three on the field and since you have been after Dolohov, Rookwood and Lestrange for the last two weeks without any result, except visiting St Mungo, I believe that a change can't do any harm. »

Offended to be relegated to what she was calling meaningless tasks, Audrey glared at Alicia and Charlie something that did not go unnoticed. She could care less, it was their fault if her plans had not worked out. In truth, she had hoped that Kingsley would ask her what was wrong. He did nothing so she left his office slamming the door behind her.

« That went well. » said Kingsley who knew that Audrey had a hot temper and that she would take the changes as a unfair punishment

Without further ado, he dismissed Alicia and Charlie. He knew that there was something going on with his team A yet he had more important problems to solve than figuring out who was Charlie's favourite witch.

Charlie and Alicia left separate ways but with that steamy kiss in their minds.

A week later,

It was Thursday evening and a miserable Charlie was at the Leaky Cauldron. He was having his fifth glass of Elves' wine, he had bought the bottle and he was planning to drink its full content.

Their week of punishment was almost over. Bill, Harry and Ron had not done better than them so Kingsley had no choice but to send back his team A on the road. Audrey was overjoyed which was a great thing as she had been obnoxious the all week. Charlie had even admitted to his brothers that he had thought about feeding his dragons with the American witch, they had laughed except Percy of course. What he had not admitted however was the fact that he had snogged Alicia, twice, and that he had not been able to think about something else since then hence the bottle of wine on a week day.

Working with the young witch was pure torture. His infatuation was growing day after day. The Alicia Spinnet's effects were not exactly new (or not new at all) but they had never hit him like that. What he was feeling was stronger than what he had ever experienced and if he was not gay, he would just have gone for it already. He poured another glass thinking of Alicia. He was gay, his addiction were supposed to be men not women and Alicia was definitely a woman so why was he attracted to her? He wished he had the answer.

He finished his glass and glanced around. It was surprisingly crowded for a Thursday evening. He took one of the menus that was laying on the bar, perhaps he had missed Tom's famous beef stew, on the menu of the day, when he had first checked it.

...

He was carefully reading the menu when a familiar floral scent came titillating his nostrils. He pushed back the sticky menu and turned over. There she was standing behind him with a smile on her face. She was wearing a short red dress that Charlie had seen before. He would never forget the thoughts that had crossed his mind when he had seen Alicia in that dress, for the first time, four years ago. Back then Alicia was only sixteen and Charlie was still not very confident about his sexuality. Daunted by the young girl, he had grabbed by the colar the first willing guy, Peter Brown, and shagged said so guy in an Alley near the Leaky Cauldron.

What else could he have done? Grabbing Alicia? It had been out of the question. Four years ago, Alicia was still too young for him besides Charlie had just accepted his homosexuality however things were different in that present moment, he was still gay but Alicia was now old enough to fulfill his desires. He was conscious to be playing with fire but he was used to getting burnt, was not he?

It was with a grin on his face that he pointed the stool next to his and invited her to sit down.

« If I had known that you were coming, I would have asked for a table. » started Charlie who was still grinning

Alicia winced, she explained that she had come for her weekly date. As she had promise to attend Angelina's first official game, with the Harpies, on the following evening, her mother had moved the date instead of canceling it.

Charlie's eyes narrowed, Alicia had told him that she was never dressing up for those dates but she had clearly dressed up for this one. No man in his right mind would resist this short dress that was hugging the witch's curves perfectly. As he did not want to sound jealous or intrusive, he did not ask who was the guy.

...

They spoke for a few minutes about everything and nothing. Charlie liked speaking with Alicia, she was easy going and well reasoned. She was bloody smart too yet it was different than speaking with someone like Hermione or Bill or Percy perhaps because she was more shy and not as competitive as the others. She was not spending her time trying to make a point in whatever conversation she was involved either, a real blast.

Also, she was always smelling divinely, her long brown hair was always clean, smooth and shiny which were total turn on for Charlie who was used to work with dragons and meeting hairy random guys, with sometimes doubtful hygiene, at the local pubs near the reserve.

He was trying to look into her blue eyes as much as possible but her boobs moulded in this dress were highly disturbing. Not looking down, at them, was impossible. He was almost relieved when her date, Diego Caplan, finally showed up.

...

The feeling of alleviation did not last long though. Diego Caplan had been to school with him. He was in his year, Hufflepuff house, and Charlie's memories of Diego were not very good. He remembered a pompous guy that was always bragging about wanting to become a duelling champion yet never available to help them with the vaults. Sure the guy was good looking but Alicia deserved better than a duelling champion that had fled to Spain as soon as the war had started. He was not even a true duelling champion, at least not yet.

Charlie was not going to let Alicia spend the night with this moron. He grabbed his second bottle of wine, his glass and looked around to spot at which table the date was happening. He was not drunk or even tipsy. Indeed, after years of evenings at Romanian Taverns, he needed more than a few glass of elves' wine to get drunk yet he had been drinking enough to loose his inhibitions and to stop overthinking about the fact that he was supposed to like men. He had stopped thinking about this whatever he was feeling when Alicia was around made no sense and all the rubbish of this sort as well as soon as he had seen her in that dress.

...

Alicia shuddered when she saw Charlie walking, with determination, towards their table. Like him, she had been thinking about their kisses non stop since they had happened a week ago. She knew that it, he, was a waste of time so she had decided to find a nice bloke, with no red hair, to shag with. This was the only reason why she had taken the red dress out of her closet.

She knew Diego, a bit, and she remembered that he was good looking so when her mother had told her that he was the guy of the week, she had decided to jump on the opportunity. She was a bit afraid of being intimate with a man, she had not had sex in over a year (almost) because of the war but again, doing it with an almost stranger seemed like the perfect option.

Her eyes were glued to Charlie though. Incredulous, she watched him sitting, without being invited, next to her.

« Sorry to interrupt you guys but I am about to leave and I thought that I should stop by your table to bid my farewell and catch up a bit. Diego Caplan, man how long has it been? 5, 6 years? » said Charlie as nonchalantly as he could manage

As for, heDiego was already annoyed by Charlie's presence. He had come to drag into his bed the younger of the Spinnet' sisters, not to have a chat. Especially not a chat with Charlie Weasley, the bloke for whom he knew that Alicia had been crazy about for years. Every student, of their year, at Hogwarts knew about Alicia's infamous love letter to the golden seeker.

Diego did not know much about the current situation but he had heard from friends and his mother that Charlie, like most of his brothers, had joined the Aurors and that he had been paired with Alicia and that American witch, Audrey.

As far as Diego knew, Charlie Weasley was gay so there was no reason to see him as a threat but like countless other students Diego remembered the rumours that had filled the hallways and the great hall for weeks during his and Charlie's last year. Rumors said that Charlie was a bit too fond of Little Spinnet, rumours started after a group of Slytherins had spotted them in an embrace, a hug, and the rumours never really stopped until graduation.

Dubious, Diego decided to play the nice guy card as he was still firmly decided to shag Alicia Spinnet.

« Yeah about that. How are you doing Charlie? Still nursing dragons in your remote reserve in Romania? »

« Not as we speak but I will go back once we will be Death Eaters free. »

« Yes I've heard about it. I hope it will be over soon. » said Diego

« Will be. I reckon, it would be easier with a handful more of volunteers to join us. Interested Diego? A duelling champion like you, would be a blast to have you on our side. » falsely praised Charlie

Diego frowned, he did not remember Charlie Weasley being sassy or sarcastic. The memory he had of the redhead was the one of a shy student always playing with a snitch, talking about dragons and hanging out with pretty girls, never trying to date them though…

He stared at Charlie while wondering what to answer. He finally said : « I am quite busy with the re-opening of the duelling club but if you need a hand just let me know. »

Charlie smirked, Diego was still the same old Diego. In other words, Diego was a looser, a wimp, and Alicia should not hang out with him, even less have sex with him.

« I just said so. » smirked Charlie

Cornered Diego answered that he would send an owl to Kinglsey to let him know that he was back to the UK and ready to help. Alicia who had been quiet said that it was very nice of him. She could not let Charlie ruin her shagging plans. She did not want Diego to join the Aurors either, he was not skilled enough and they had enough problems already but she had to be nice to him in order to get what she wanted from him.

« Very nice. » mumbled an upset Charlie

He looked at Alicia. She was absolutely stunning and hot. Did Alicia want to spend the night with Diego Caplan? The thought was doing more than bothering him so he filled his glass again.

...

Alicia was observing Charlie in silence. Confused by his attitude, Alicia forgot about her shagging plans for a minute. The two men, who were too busy with their cockfight (about defending their country), did not paid attention.

She noticed that Charlie did not seem drunk, no change in his mannerism or anything. He just seemed more confident than usual which was arousing Alicia more and more by the second. Her body finished to fire up when Charlie wrapped an arm around her shoulders, only to let it slip on her left arm. Charlie's callous hand stroking her arm was more than she could handle. At each stroke, she was holding back a moan.

Diego dumbstruck by the scene that he was witnessing was now quite sure that rumours were not rumours. It was clear from the scene that was playing under his nostrils that Alicia was still harbouring feelings for Charlie and Charlie, clearly jealous, had come to mark his territory. Diego had never been fond of complications therefore it was preferable to leave.

Whatever was going on between the two Aurors, he preferred to stay out of it. Besides Charlie was strong and Diego did not want to be punched by one of those muscular arms. It did not matter how smocking hot Alicia was in that red dress, she was not worth that pain and a broken nose. He finished his glass, talked a bit more and finally after ten long minutes, he got up and said that he had a headache. He apologised while insisting on the fact that it was preferable for him to go home.

Worried, Alicia said that perhaps she should go with him. Diego would have accepted if Charlie had not been glaring at him. Diego had got Charlie's message, there would be no shagging Little Spinnet for him.

« I am really sorry Alicia but at least you have Charlie to keep you company. I hope we can reschedule some day. Again, I apologise but I must go. »

« Bye Diego. » said Charlie loudly as if he was trying to push Diego to leave them alone faster than he already was

« Bye » muttered Alicia who was confused and startled. What the hell what she supposed to do now?

Before she could think of something, Charlie's fingers were stroking the thin fabric of her red dress. His fingers slowly sliding down her side until his hand finally disappeared under the table to reach her the bare skin of her smooth legs.

Charlie smiled at her and got closer, he told her, almost in a whisper to do not be heard, that she was beautiful.

« Charlie, perhaps you had too much wine? »

« You can hardly call this grape juice wine. We have real hooch in Romania, That kick you off your socks in one drink but not that rubbish. Why are you asking anyway? I've said nothing but the truth, you look beautiful, always do.» he insisted

As Alicia was turning red he chuckled and added : « When you blush like that it reminds me of how shy you used to be. »

« I remember you as a shy bloke too, apparently you have lost that after one of those glasses of hooch »

« That would be more likely because of your bloody dress. »

« What about it? » she asked confusedly

« Four years ago, when I took you out for a drink you came wearing that dress. »

Not understanding what he meant, she said : « Yes I remember and I remember that you barely said a word to me that night. I still wonder why you asked me out. I've questioned it even more after seeing you snogging Peter Brown next door that same night. »

« You saw that? » curtly asked Charlie who had turned white

« Yes. Charlie, I am well aware that the torch I had carried for you had been a burden, a sword above your head but you could have just told me that you liked men, there was no need to drag me into a trap. »

« I am sorry Alicia, very much. I had no idea that you had seen us that day. I swear, it had never been my intention to expose myself like that. You are very mistaken about my motives too. » clarified Charlie

Alicia frowned and asked him what he meant by that.

Charlie sighed, he had always known that the day would come, the day where he would have to explain why he had asked her out. There was one problem though, he had no real answer. None that he could give her anyway. Back then, he had been stunned when he had seen her, as he always was when he was seeing her. He had asked her out because he wanted to talk about the kiss that they had shared the last time they had seen each other. He had nothing in mind. He was still young, he just wanted to spend a bit of time with her, trying to demystify whatever he was feeling when she was around.

Basically not much had changed over the years…

Explaining all of this without saying too much was not easy and he could not tell if Alicia was upset or relieved. Mentioning his feelings would help her to understand but he would not do that, not now.

It was getting so confusing that Alicia had to interrupt him : « Charlie, I am sorry but I really do not understand anything. It hurt you know, I thought that perhaps you had finally seen something in me, I got my hopes up for what? Nothing. You did not talk to me at all and you left me alone as soon as you saw a few of my friends. You. » she stopped, she was not going to tell him that he had broken her heart that night instead she asked if the kiss had been that bad, the first one, six years ago, she clarified, that there was something to say about it.

« No, no, it was a great kiss, but I, I, I don't know, I had not heard from you, not a single letter so I had thought that perhaps something went wrong. »

Astonished, she asked : « You read my letters? »

He smiled, of course he had.

« Really? »

He smiled again and recited a few sentences of her letters. He knew them by heart.

Forgetting about where they were, Alicia wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her body against his into a hug. She had always assumed that Charlie was throwing away the letters without bothering to read them. He had never mentioned them or write back so it seemed like the right thing to think.

She was overjoyed and confused : « Why did you never say anything? I would not have stop writing. »

« I wish you had not, I liked your letters. They were always comforting, nothing like the intrusive ones I was getting from my mother or the boring ones I was getting from my friends. » confessed Charlie whose arms were firmly holding Alicia

« Shall I write to you once you will be back to Romania then? »

He answered positively. The thought of going back to Romania and being away from her stung though

« But you have to write back this time » she added with a smile

« Promise. » nodded Charlie

Desirous to change the subject, Charlie asked her « Now, please tell me why you are wearing that dress? You are so hot in it, it is almost indecent. I am telling you Diego went home for a wank or two or ten. »

« Ten that's very generous. » blushed Alicia

« Oh no, no, it is hardly close to the real number, I am sure. »

She giggled and blushed. Playful and flirtatious, she dared to ask him : « How many for you? Can I at least hope for one? »

« Bare minumum Alicia. »

Shocked by his brutal answer, Alicia looked into his eyes just to be sure that he was not making fun of her. She only saw lust which was not what she wanted from him but definitely more than she had ever thought she would get. It was her call!
