Chapter 35: Loki

It had only just occurred to Loki that he'd never had the pleasure of destroying an entire spaceship before. Now, as he pushed the Other's body to the floor and righted the ship, he decided that he'd very much like to try it.

But first he had to make sure that he didn't take out half of Manhattan at the same time.

With that in mind, he turned the ship away from the city and flew it out over the ocean, leaving the autopilot to keep it on an even course as he left the control room.

The engine room wasn't too hard to find, thanks to Loki's scepter and a Chitauri guard. The engine itself was powered by a large metal-and-glass energy core that glowed with Stone-born power.

Loki smiled as he surveyed it. "This looks important," he mused. Then he conjured a dagger and slashed at the wires running from the core.

Sparks flew, and something mechanical that had been making a rhythmic pounding sound stopped suddenly. A strained whining took its place.

Loki glanced once at his handiwork, then strode out the door. Even as he ran down the narrow halls the floor shuddered beneath his feet and the lights flickered. He entered the control room once more at a half-run.

Loki glanced out the smashed windscreen at the open water rushing by below, and reluctantly reached up to activate the earpiece he had been given. "If anyone possessed of the power of flight is nearby, I could use a lift," he said. "I'm in the moving Chitauri ship."

He had barely finished speaking before the whole ship heaved and an almighty roar rang throughout the craft. Whether or not help was coming, he needed to leave.

Without a backwards glance, Loki stepped through the window and let himself fall. Above him, the Chitauri ship exploded.
